Reviews of Rose Theatre Cafe

By far the best cinnamon roll I ever tasted! This cosy cafe is run by two lovely ladies. Scones are so yummy too. My friend loved the cheese scone and I had blueberry scone for my breakfast next day. Thank you Sinead & Mary!

Would highly recommend the rose theatre cafe to anyone looking for a delicious breakfast, really fantastic quality coffee and a very friendly relaxing atmosphere. We were over from Dublin for the weekend and the full breakfast was absolutely delicious. Very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of food. Best breakfast I've had, and the staff, venue and food really do deserve 5 stars

Excellent All Day Scottish Breakfast. Great wee cafe. It was formerly the street-level Lounge of Charlotte Baptist Chapel, where my wife and I got married 30 years ago and we attended as members. The area has been well transformed. The carpet has worn well!

Lovely spot, visited for monthly Edinburgh Writers Forum, serves good snacks and light food (their toasted cheese scones are yummy), friendly service.

Looks like it has had a bit of a makeover recently and is now a pleasant place to sit and have a quiet drink. Was there the weekend before Christmas and liked the fact that the bar staff told a large crowd of drunk lads that they were no longer serving drinks (even though they were) so that the relaxed atmosphere wasn't ruined for other clients. If you are in the Rose Street vicinity I would recommend.

Visiting Edinburgh with dog and needed somewhere for a late breakfast. The food was excellent... As good a breakfast as I can remember with quality ingredients. Combined with a welcome for the dog, fabulous.

Great full vegan breakfast! Featuring vegan haggis and tattie scone. Quirky theatre café much loved locally, busy even during Tuesday brunch time.

My wife and I had breakfast here after a night on Edinburgh, I had the full breakfast and my wife had the beans on sourdough toast. My breakfast was the best cooked breakfast I have ever had, if it weren't for my wife's embarrassment at my appetite I would have ordered and eaten a second without hesitation!!

Fantastic Avocado with poached eggs and hot smoked salmon on toast. Incredible Bloody Mary and coffee!! Get yourself down here if your this side of town!!
Z. M.
I had a delicious avocado mushroom and tomato sourdough toast for lunch today and a cinnamon roll 😋 that was a proper treat! Love this cafe and will be back soon 😊
J. W.
Delicious breakfast, cooked to perfection with top quality ingredients. One of the best breakfasts I have ever tasted. Quality coffee and amazing service. Will definitely be back next time I am in Edinburgh.

I love going to the Rose Theatre Café. I’ve been going circa twice a week for the past year, and they’re so incredibly friendly. The food is amazing, whether it’s a sausage roll, haggis roll, breakfast roll, smoothie, avocado-toast and eggs, cake, you name it, it’s all really lovely for whatever mood your in. I really do love the whole menu. Thank you for keeping me happy and healthy 😋😚

Rose Theatre Cafe is a GEM. Delicious vegan options, fabulous meals, and a great atmosphere for a coffee and their famous vegan cinnamon rolls. Don’t miss out on this place!

Visited today with a friend for coffee. Socially distancing. Auto hand sanitiser as you go in and tables very well spaced out. Table was scrupulously clean. We had coffee and gluten free chocolate and raspberry brownies. Scrumptious! We will be back. The staff were lovely also.

Such a lovely cafe, both the Women who run it are amazing, so nice and friendly! The food tastes amazing as well. Their morning rolls are delicious and the sweet treats are to die for! I can’t wait to next get some brownie 😍😍😍

Absolutely stunning place, with some of the best food in Edinburgh. The staff is brilliant, and they host great open mics across the year. I have been eating there for nearly two years now, and I was never left down. Could not recommend any other place if you need to boost your moral :)
M. G.
Very friedly staff! And they really do have the best cinnamon rolls!
G. C.
Tasty pastries, great coffee and cool music. What else? Definitely one of my favourite places to work and have lunch. I recommend!

One of the best little Cafe’s in Edinburgh!! Ideal central location. Cosy atmosphere, amazing menu with delicious bakes and vegan options. Always such lovely service, and in general just a chilled quality place to spend your morning/ afternoon.

Very nice place, with a special atmosphere and lovely people 🙂.
The food is delicious ! The avocado toasts, egg & bacon scones and also the raspberry jam scones were just so good. Very good quality and quantity.
One of the best breakfast we had for a long time.
We warmly recommend this address !

I went a while ago but it's always stuck out in my mind how nice the visit was and how friendly the staff were. I had a delicious bacon sandwich which they made gluten and dairy free for me due to good intolerances I have. They were so helpful and kind and the food was delicious. I've been meaning to go back for ages.

I enjoyed seeing two shows here today. The seats were comfortable and there was plenty of leg space. The stage itself was quite small but there was great use of using the whole theatre for accessing the stage. It made me, in the audience, feel very much part of what was going on on stage.
It showed me what could be done on stage with very limited props - slatted wooden boxes.
The onle down side for me was having a lot of stairs to climb to get to it.

I am in the Rose Theatre Cafe 5 days a week so I can order the nicest cinnamon swirls I have ever tasted! They have lots of healthy options also for breakfast and lunch, and I really love their flavoured hot chocolates and coffees. The cafe ladies are the sweetest and will always have a chat with you while you order. This cafe is definitely worth a stop in if you’re In the centre of Edinburgh, near princes street or on rose street! They also host the most fun open mic nights with great singers and spoken word on a Tuesday evening, check their Facebook page for updates on when it’s on!

The kindest ladies in Rose theatre cafè! A terrific building, which host amazing shows! The cuisine the ladies serve is nothing short of 5 stars and take great comfort in the welcoming, relaxed atmosphere they provide!

Got to say one of the nicest place for a chilled lunch. Was such a surprise. The food was lovely, staff were great and it has a lovely community feel to it. Definitely going to be back

I have lunch about three times a week at the Rose Theatre Cafe. Delicious food, Cinnamon Rolls to die for, relaxing atmosphere and the friendliest service you could ever wish for.

Had some time to kill before our Airbnb check-in time, found Rose Theatre cafe a couple of doors down. While it doesn't seem like much, it served one of the tastiest breakfasts we've had in the UK and for very good prices! The lady at the counter was so nice and there's free wi-fi as well.

Visited last night for "A Bottle of Wine and Patsy Cline". Good show, but on the 2nd floor - asked at the interval where the toilets were only to be told they were in the basement! Checked with another staff member on the first floor and was again told the basement. On returning to my seat I spoke to the usher and asked him to pass my comments on to the manager. I have since been told by a friend that there ARE toilets on the other floors. I would be interested to know why I had to go down (and back up) three flights of stairs?
E. M.
Great vegan breakfast and nice spacious restaurant.
R. C.
Great hidden gem in Edinburgh city center! Great veggie and vegan options and some really tasty deserts and sweet treats! Definitely worth a trip!

Show was fabulous (Patsy Cline) and theatre staff great. Found out it was on by fluke - didn't come up on search on internet for Edinburgh Theatres - hint hint !!
B. N.
Nice - atmospheric, and a good comedy show in the basement. Perhaps not as edgy and raucous as the other comedy clubs, such as The Stand, but still very good and good value.
J. G.
Lovely old building but badly needs air conditioning.
L. S.
Great venue unless you have accessibility issues - no lifts and a lot of stairs. But a great venue once you're in
