Reviews of Saint Giles Cafe & Bar
R. S.
What a perfect place. The staff were so friendly and attentive. The menu had a great selection and keep an eye out in the specials board. The ginger beer was spot on. To finish we had scones warmed up and every so slightly toasted - yum!
P. B.
Nice cafe with beautiful cake. Very odd looking teabag but it tasted great. Spotlessly clean toilets. Recommended as just off the Royal Mile.
M. D.
Great little Cafe about a 5-10 minute walk from Edinburgh Castle. Food was great and service was even better. Will be going back again when in town. Thanks!
B. L.
Lovely little spot for lunch. Staff was very friendly and attentive
V. K.
I have been to Edinburgh twice in the last year, the first of those times, I happened upon this wonderful cafe, with a cosy interior and amazing staff.
There is a perfect selection of food to choose from but for me the best things were the liqueur coffees/hot chocolates and the bacon rolls (made with fresh focaccia bread). I would travel to Edinburgh again solely for the bacon rolls.
A. B.
Nice atmosphere and super friendly service!! Lunch (we had soup and a salad with goat cheese) was very good! Prices are okay!
R. Y.
Like a Swiss cafe half way up a mountain with coffee to match. Top experience.
Almond croissant was ropey though. I still ate it. I didn't say anything.
D. B.
Wonderful coffee and a great place for a quick lunch. Extremely friendly and efficient team. Highly recommended.
D. D.
Ok for a quick cuppa. Shame the radiators were turned off.
B. T.
Loved their take on a London Fog… the ‘Edinburgh Mist’
P. A.
It didn't look great from outside but the service was very good and the food was lovely and hot it just goes to show looks can be deceiving I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!!
R. A.
Lovely food, good coffee and welcoming staff, all you could ask for. Nice location, well priced and enjoyable.
J. S.
Popped in here for some mid day snacks to get us through until dinner and it wasn’t bad. We had the cheese and crackers platter which came with a lovely chutney, however, the chutney could’ve been bigger. The cheeses were quite nice but was a little bit disappointed to see cream crackers to go with them. Minor detail though, and we enjoyed the oat crackers very much despite. We also had some pita bread with hummus and we asked for some extra balsamic vinegar on the side which was very acidic but okay. The humans and pita were gorgeous though. We also had a large glass of wine each which we very much enjoyed! Overall the food wasn’t bad and the prices were average. Nice enough vibe and decor, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Will be back.
F. M. K.
Excellent location near The Mound and Royal Mile. From there it's a short walk to St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh Castle, etc.
The ambient is very comfortable, cozy and with a nice, rustic décor.
I ordered Brie cheese with salad, bacon and maple syrup. It was just delicious! A very interesting mix. Also, the coffee was on point.
The staff is very friendly and polite. Also, free WiFi, which is always nice.
W. N.
The customer service and kindness that we received from this place was absolutely AMAZING! I’m particular, there was a lady I cannot recall her name that served us but she was absolutely amazing! Tall, short haired blonde with amazing energy, kindness and just absolutely great customer service!!!
the food and coffee was delicious. Loved the tomato soup!! Keep it up and I cannot wait to visit Edinburgh again and take a visit here!!
If you are ever in Edinburgh, I would highly recommend you stop by! You won’t be disappointed!
S.
Great cafe, excellent food, staff very friendly. Well worth going here, you won't be disappointed.
0.
Friendly and quick service! Nice coffee and waffles - worth a stop!
C. C.
Quite nice, they forgot to sugar my espresso after I asked but not a problem when they leave sugar on the table, probably my own fault for asking for it to be done. Nice atmosphere felt a little rushed but they are limited for space.
H. W.
Cute little cafe tucked away just off the royal mile. Great selection of food and drinks.
T. E.
Coffee was lovely! Bacon was cooked perfectly in a seeded bap - marvellous stuff, Johns
G.
Just off the royal mile. A great cafe with good service. The food and coffee was good.
Give the St. Giles waffles a try, you won't be disappointed.
J. G.
Lovely staff and great ambiance. The coffee was a wee bit on the bland side, but the tasty shortbread made up for it!
J. W.
Nice cafe just off the royal mile, near enough to the Castle to be a good stop before visiting. Lovely decor, usual for the type of venue & prices ok for the convenient location.
F. M.
Great coffee, Good selection on menu. Friendly service. Will definitely recommend and go back again.
E. B.
Lovely, friendly, informal cafe. Food and drinks were delicious.
M. W.
When in the service sector it's important to remember the emphasis on the word service. Without doubt the best service I have received anywhere in ages. Nothing was too much trouble and it's such a small establishment that such personal effort makes all the difference. Why fight your way for a coffee in a big chain establishment when just 100 yards away is this absolute gem. Worth the walk. Definitely money and time well spent.
M. H.
Nicely situated just off High Street and yet not overly crowded. Good coffee, food and their music playlist was incredible. Music matters😉
B. O.
Great experience! Friendly service and great food! We stopped here for lunch before going to Edinburgh Castle. Were greeted as soon as we walked in.
S. H.
Second visit for a coffee and snack, staff very helpful, would highly recommend.
M. K.
The service was really nice, the food very tasty even though a bit expensive (the quality amazing). The waffle with chocolate was insanely delicious and the cappuccino very good!
F. F.
Do try the Edinburgh mist as it is very delicious. Service was a little slow but the food was great so it made up for the wait.
M. Z.
Very good soup, nice interior, helpful and friendly stuff. Highly recommended
J. B.
A lovely little independent cafe shop, with bags of character. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. It is very easy to find just off the Royal Mile, really worth a visit!
J. M.
My absolute favourite place in Edinburgh, I visit each and every time I'm up north. Their soy cappuccino's amazing and so are their salads.
h. 1.
Great food and drinks the waiters seemed to be very busy tho.
J. B. T.
Love this cafe, end up in there every time I visit. Great menu, fresh and varied cafe menu and good whiskey selection, too.
Shame they're not dog friendly but very helpful staff.
J. D.
Possibly the worst coffee I've ever had in the U.K. I can't describe how awful the coffee was, we had two Americanos, one decaf and one normal - it was impressive how bad it was. Sour, rancid burnt-tasting brown water. I feel really bad leaving this review but honestly the coffee put me in such a bad mood due to how disgusting it was. The young lady who served us was lovely however so it wasn't all bad. I'm not one to moan (hard to believe, I know), and I know it's just a coffee and I should get over it.. but my God, awful. Absolutely awful.
L. D.
Best brownie !
A. V. M.
All around great place, I go there every time I stop by in Edinburgand I've never had a complaint yet. Would definitely recommend.
P. R.
Fantastic service and coffee BUT a Belgian waffle with bacon!!!??? A true Belgian waffle is sweet not savoury!!!! As a Belgian I take exception. AAAARGH
S. F.
Lovely. Not what we expected in such a tourist hot spot - nice food and service with fair prices.
G. R.
Amazing little cafe that also serves food. Found this place accidentally on a rainy summer day in Edinburgh.
P. J.
Great for a drink after/during exploring the Royal Mile. Try the Edinburgh Mist or Hot Toddy on a cold day to warm you up!
R. S.
Lovely cafe situated across the road from St Giles Kirk
b. s.
Popped in for a little bite to eat before checking in my hotel. Polite and friendly staff
T. V.
Fantastic coffee. Lovely staff, excellent customer service too. Will definitely will return next time in Edinburgh.
D. W.
This is a small cafe with friendly staff, good service and reasonably priced food and drink for a city location. Would highly recommend supporting a lovely small business in a good location.
N. J.
Lovely spot. Tasty food and drinks. Decor charming.
M. C.
Just off the royal mile. Tasty fare and very good service. Worth a visit
Y. K.
Food was great, beautiful interior. Only I have found a piece of tissue inside my salad.
H. P.
Good sandwiches. Friendly service. Off the main Street but worth getting away from the crowds
B. G.
Slightly sticky table, flat white same size as latte. Waffles and brie was super califragilistic expidelidocious good.
H. L.
Excellent food drinks and service
A. K.
Very cute cafe with great breakfast and coffee. The customer service was excellent.
S. G.
Lovely establishment with great beverages and food. Friendly staff and owner!
N. W.
We had the most delicious hot toddies on a cold November afternoon to warm us up! They even made an alcohol free hot toddy for our 2 year old son. Will be going back in the week for a bowl of their soup (The table next to ours had tomato and basil soup - it looked amazing!)
S. S.
Nice place some lovely waiters and a beautiful view of the royal mile
J. D.
Sweet baby Jesus... please try their waffle with bacon, brie, and maple syrup! I had the waffle with two porters and was in heaven. No idea about the other reviews of bad staff; our waiter was fast and friendly with great advice! Cheers, and I'll be back!
J. G.
Lovely Cafe on a side street by the Cathedral. All the drinks you want and more...
N. P.
Café with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Full of tourists due to its proximity to Edinburgh Castle but able to get a table at lunchtime. Salads & soups were served as relatively small portions. Good for a quick coffee, cake and/or whiskey.
J. J.
We stopped for something to drink while sightseeing city. I ordered muled vine, which was as special on the board, but they didn't have it. So got cappuccino, which was ok and carrot cake. Nice small coffee for quick coffee break.
j. g.
One if my favorite places to eat breakfast. Their Belgian waffle with bacon and maple syrup is THE best! The cappuccino and scones are also to die for! The seating is kinda crowded but overall it's worth it!
D. N.
Good coffee. Friendly staff.
L. R.
The cafe is centrally located, just off the royal mile. The staff were friendly and efficient. The cafe was cozy and seemed to be a popular spot during the mid afternoon, especially for tourists. The coffees and hot chocolate were good, as were their fresh cakes.
C. F.
I played 22 world renowned golf courses on my Ireland/Scotland trip and this cafe always seems to find its way into one of my stories. For days I legitimately couldn't stop raving about the Waffles and Bacon with Maple Syrup. They even toss on a little salad and the entire meal is to die for. The portion, service, and quality of this cafe was wonderful. I'll be heading back next August for another golf excursion and this stop will be high on the list.
K. C.
Popped in for a much needed thirst quenching cup of tea and something to eat with friends from out of town, they were due to close in 55 minutes, but greeted us cordially and served us with charm. My salmon and dill quiche was lovely.
S. C.
Great location. Good for a snack. Menu with something for everyone
G. f.
Had an excellent bacon and brie sandwich today at this busy wee cafe, really enjoyed the whole experience, staff very friendly and can't do enough for you.
N. M.
The sandwiches were decent. The house speciality waffle was delicious. However, the real star was the chai lattes, mochas, Edinburgh mists, and especially the Pink Lemonade Cake. It was absolutely amazing, (however is a special)
B. C.
Great little 'Gaff', lovely staff , really good food
H. B.
Nice place to rest your feet after a morning spent walking the Castle.
A. D.
Brill, have the waffles special!
R. P. T.
Extremely friendly staff! Relaxed atmosphere is what you get in the lovely place. The house special waffle is definitely worth returning to. Definitely recommend it!
A. A.
I liked my hot drink, snack, the friendliness of their staff and some of their interior. As a local I found it overpriced, not surprising given the location.
S. W.
Delicious coffees, especially the flavored ones. Gingerbread latte was amazing.
Super-friendly staff.
S. F.
OK,but hot drink only lukewarm
H. S.
Brilliant little place. Gluten free bread and value for money
V.
Normal pricing and good hot chocolate but unfriendly staff.
Z. R.
This used to be my favourite cafe for a treat as a student in the late 90s when it was still Café Florentin. So pleased to find that whilst here with my young sons it is still under the same ownership and just as lovely. Will be back for breakfast tomorrow for my eldest's 8th birthday (who funnily enough shares his name with the owner) as they loved the brownies and we loved the coffee!
G. D.
Lovely staff and location, the wooden decor gives a great atmosphere to it, however paying 5 pounds for a ham and cheese croissant is just too much. Not even london charges this much.
M. R.
Fantastic and reasonably priced cafe behind St. Giles’ Church on the “mile.” My Scottish porridge (available before 11:15am) was delicious. (January 2019)
A. S.

E. R.
Great food and the best Mocha I've had in Edinburgh. Prices are good. Super friendly staff as well. I highly recommend it!
H. D.
One of my favourite cafes in Edinburgh! Try the Edinburgh mist if you’re a fan of tea lattes, and the chai latte is great too.
S. B.
Just polished off the most amazing toasted BLT, washed down with a streaming glass of "Edinburgh Mist". Not the cheapest menu but definitely worth it as the price reflects the quality.
B. S.
Rustic little hidden gem. Really friendly staff, food good. Wine served at just the right temperature. Worth a try

What a gem of a find amongst the normal run of the mill you find at this time of the year. The service, food, and a lovely smile from the staff say it all. Nearly forgot, not rip off prices that you usually find at this time of the year, and I will definitely be back
R. L.

(Translated) Very cute little restaurant, with nice waitress. A place where you can eat healthy and where my pregnant wife is not afraid to order a dish.
Prices in the average of which one finds in pub. If you want a salad or veggies go ahead !!!

(Translated) A friendly welcome at first, but quickly the waitress lost her calm or rather showed signs of impatience at the time taken for our relaxed break. Impatience confirmed when it served us by launching our choices on the table and then asking us 2 or 3 times if we were finished. Of course there were not many people, so we took our time. The quality of the products is top, however, especially the carot cake.

(Translated) Edinburgh has an impressive city center with an almost imperial grandeur. It is also beautifully situated on a fjord, a Sea Log the Firth of Firth. Saint Giles cathedral is impressive because of the construction of the richly decorated interior. In this tearoom with the same name it is delicious to have lunch with scones, jam and clotted cream.
