Reviews of Sir Walter's Cafe in the Gardens

Nice view + played with good music while looking at the view. Place is accessible, friendly not too expensive. Loved their waffles and hot chocolate. They have lots of items to offer from their menu.
C. S.
No better place to be on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon than sitting here in Edinburgh eating fish and chips followed by ice cream loved it and what a view.
D. B.
Freshly made Crepes whilst you wait with excellent coffee in that setting, what's not to like 👌👌👌.
M. B.

Not at all touristy. Nice quiet tearoom with a fantastic view and super friendly staff! Had a Sunday Roast Diner. Very good.
Went back few days later for an afternoon tea. Very good food again. Staff friendly as ever.
A. G.
We had ice cream sat within the cafe area. It was very nice a bit windy when we went. Lovely setting

Situated on top of a souvenir shop in the New Town on Princes Street, it offers stunning views of the Scott Monument across the road and the Old Town and Castle.
Their food is amazing. Try their cakes if you’re around when they reopen. It’s a two minute walk from Waverley station, so an ideal place to kill time before a train.
B. T.
Food is awesome and the staff are even better. Great wee place to stop and grab lunch even when you have a 5 year old with awesome sunglasses

A great cafe right in the middle of a city center with a great selection of food and a tasty coffee. The staff is polite and attentive and they even deliver food to a table. There are a few tables to choose from. Although it is usually very busy, the queue rotates quickly, so the waiting time is short. Been there quite a few times and I must say that this is one of my favourite spots to go to if I find myself anywhere near princes street and feel pekish. Highly recommended.

Lovely little cafe. Great music playing in the background....and great service. Coffee was lovely too.

Loved tea time in Scotland! A friend suggested the Sir Walter Tea room, and it didn’t disappoint. A little tricky to find, you have to go through the store and up the stairs. Great service, and delicious tea and food.
R. B.
Great coffee, lovely young staff and in such a beautiful setting for people watching or a wee rest between shops.
D. S.
Great coffee little windy when we sat down but wS very relaxing with good music.
J. M.
Nice location but plenty of refreshment places surrounding the gardens are present. Expect to pay tourist prices though.
P. S.
Kinda expensive it's a tourists Nightmare 🏴

Excellent coffee, perfect spot to people watch, great chat from the staff, the Nutella crepe was to die for (literally, with sugar overdose... Wow! :-) )
V. C.
A lovely spot to stop at for a cream tea that's tucked away at the top of a souvenir shop. The service was great. The tea and (warm!) scones were delicious as well.
T. M.

The girl that serves us couldn't do enough for us.
The breakfast is fantastic and I got to try haggis for the first time! Went back later for tea and scone. Great range of cake too.
The views are great and well worth sitting to watch the sun set in winter and see the lights of Edinburgh go on.
I'm flying back there in a few weeks and the Tea Room is my first port of call. Can't wait!
T. K.
Deserts over priced for what you get
V. H.
Really enjoyed the cream tea (scone with jam and clotted cream plus tea of your choice) that we ordered. The scone was warm crispy on the outside and the tea was proper loose leaf in a pot. My only complaint was that it was a bit uncomfortably warm inside the tea room when we visited.
I. B.
Yes it is lovely sitting with a coffee and cake or sandwich and watch the world go by .The staff are quick on serveing you but don,t have time to pass the day with you .Nice on a summers day.
J. N.
Edinburgh full of people, yet this nice calm place was there nearly just for us. Reasonable prizes, nice staff, great view. You need just to climb up the stairs in the shop to the top floor ;)

My wife and I enjoyed our trip for unique Scottish tea. Our waitress turned us on to Edinburgh Blue Lady tea which we liked so much that we bought a packet of it.
C. E.
Very Scottish place to have a true Scottish meal. People there are extremely nice and the food is good quality and traditional.
A. G.
Surprisingly fresh food from a little stand in the Gardens. Lots of outdoor seating, and we managed to be there on the perfect sunny day to enjoy a quick bite near the Arts Festival!
D. L.
Old fashioned tea room overlooking Princes Street and historic buildings and the castle and gardens. Stepping back to a bygone age, good cuppa. Downstairs is the tartan shop and gift shop.
M. L.
Very good and relaxed atmosphere in the gardens. It's great if you want somewhere to eat and relax at the same time.
I will definitely Go there again .
W. p.
Jumbled seating but essentially ok cafe fr visitors to the Wallace monument. Tea and coffee a bit canteenish. Exit through the gift shop.
J. L.

A cafe on the third floor of a souvenir shop. I recommend sitting by the window if possible, as the view is good. Although it was just after noon, maybe it was on the third floor, so it was not crowded and it was a slow and calm atmosphere. The staff is also very friendly.
Cream tea costs around £ 6 with a large scone and a tea set in a pot. The scones were very delicious because warm things came out.

(Translated) This Tea Room on Princes Street is a great place to sit on the table and admire views of Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street Gardens. The first floor is the Romanes and Paterson Scottish shop, which you may not find easily, enter Scotland Souvenir shop, up to the second floor is a Scottish skirt store, and then up to the top floor is this Tea Room. Here you can have a hot soup, eat a Scone and have a cup of tea or coffee. If the belly is hungry, there are also Scottish Roast with Yorkshire pudding, just to see if the day is roast chicken or roast beef.
