Reviews of Söderberg The Meadows
J. G.
Not sure if we just hit it on a bad day but we had to wait about 10-15 mins for coffee at the weekend. Outdoor seating is good but during the Fringe there was litter everywhere.
Seemed to be short staffed while we were there, as lots of plates and cups and cutlery left on tables.
Odd setup with pastries left in the open to take up to the till. Seems like a “pre covid” layout, but maybe it’s fine for most. They were out of cinnamon buns too!
I like Soderberg and some of their other locations are good, but this location seemed to be overworked and understaffed when we went.
I. C.
Great little café on the meadows. Grab a loyalty card as you will probably be back. Some of the cakes and pastries are pretty good too - and quite unusual. Very popular spot and easy to see why.
I particularly liked the Ukrainian tart on my last visit. Very happy to buy one to support the humanitarian effort. Good job Soderberg!
C. P.
Great food, good coffee. Really a nice place for breakfast or brunch. As many people already said, you should try the buns. They are delicous. And i aspecially liked the almond tards.
K. A.
Nice and Clean, tasty buns, very slow service even though quiet.. Get more enthusiasm from Costa staff then these guys!!
Chai latte needed a stir, wouldn’t mind if they given me a spoon to do myself.
However, Buns are what carry them..
T. H.
Vegan sandwich was exceptional, latte was smooth and light, tarts were tasty! Lovely location too.
M. B.
Overall well made coffees, but often drinks arrive luke warm and seats are very close to each other so privacy isn't really an option. As well as that the food and pastries are quite overpriced and the chairs outside are uncomfortable. Advantage is the coffees are nice if you order one that's easy to make and it opens very early. Generally too busy to get a seat in anytime after 12 because of students
B. H.
Clean and nice interior. Mocha was excellent, cinnamon bun was good, but both were on the expensive side and I'm always a bit leery of places with uncovered and self-served food on display. Service was brisk, not unfriendly but not enthusiastic either.
T. A.
Very nice Café with swedish Bakery.
C. V. O.
I love the interior of this place, a great spot to wind down with a book or get some work done with a lovely view. I ordered a chai latte, which was a little bit disappointing, I would’ve liked it slightly sweeter. The oat latte my boyfriend ordered was good, though! ☕️
L. S.
Good coffee and pastries. Perfect for breakfasts or lunches.

This place has been one of my favourite finds of the summer, made even better as we weren't looking for it, so it was a lovely surprise. The food, drinks, atmosphere and staff are just wonderful. I will try and make it back as often as possible as I've fallen in love with the Soderberg Collins cocktail and the scones they make.
C. F.
Purchased a tomato, mozzerella and rocket sandwich for £3.80, which I felt was reasonable. For anyone interested, they accept contactless payments for AMEX/American Express cardholders at the time of this review (Nov 2022).
M. B.
Hot chocolate and cinnamon bun are perfect. The staff were very welcoming as well.
V. L.
The only problem with this place is how (rightly) popular it is! You may have to queue to get in but this will only add to your appreciation of the experience. Build some suspense for that cardamom bun. (Will there be any left?? ) Really bright space, great for studying or socialising (for those who remember how to do that). I got a very reasonably priced (and pretty filling, FYI) spelt scone and filter coffee. No WiFi here but I quite like that about it too.
A. M.
The environment is great and in a good location their coffee is great also the sandwiches. I dont personal recommend the pizza it's not that tasty.
Good for meeting and gathering but not that quit for reading
G. A.
I like the healthiness, location very picturesque, staff are friendly, good coffees
J. P.
This is a lovely, sharp piece of Scandawegia in the iconic Quartermile Development. The breakfast is a well balanced mix of fresh elements - the sourdough and smoked salmon are particularly good. Their cappuccino is also top class (regular and soy). The space with its ceiling height windows and views of the meadows and the new developments behind is a key part of the experience.
M. K.
The cinammon bun is delicious and fresh from the oven, I totally recommend.
I expected the outdoors area to have a better setting, but it is still ok. Big lovely tree on the side makes it better
R. B.
A lovely place to get a coffee + pastry while strolling through the meadows. The cafe’s glass walls let in loads of natural light and there’s tons of seating to be found both inside and out. Get there early and grab a raspberry brownie!
N.
I love this bakery, but admittedly for their Cinnamon buns! Everytime I come home to Edinburgh I make a point of coming here for a coffee/tea and bun, and it never disappoints. I would go so far as to say it’s as close to the real thing you’d find in Scandinavia. I can’t comment on the rest of the food, however.
It also has a lovely atmosphere for just relaxing and letting the world go by
A. A.
One pf my favorite coffee shops in Edinburgh I almost go to it everyday , great service and friendly staff, lots of options to choose from food and drinks.
A. P.
Visited here with some people I met while I was visiting Edinburgh. It was delicious! It had a great look and atmosphere; and it had great food and coffee as well!
I had a latte and a Semla(they only have it at certain times of the year).
A. V.
Nice place to have a coffee and a chat, or some time to read a book and unwind. A bit pricier than I'm used to but lovely snacks and coffee.
A. K.
Always a great place to chill out and eat a cinnamon/cardamom roll or two (okay, maybe three). Not the cheapest place, but their baked goods are very good and I like going through amazing cookbooks they have on their shelves.
A. M.
Lovely central spot right by the university for a coffee or lunch. Have always been really impressed with the food and drinks I’ve had here - the cardamom buns are exquisite. Very nice array of seating, with larger tables at the back and some nice armchairs and benches too.
劉.
The cinnamon bun here is good, as well as the exclusive cookies! The calories are low, and its plain flavor is just what I'm really into! The banana cake and the chocolate cake taste great as well. Will definitely go again if I visit Edinburgh again.
D. f.
Nice place in the morning and friendly staff. I am not a big fan of cappuccino but was ok for me. Banana bread was delicious. The only downside is a bit expensive.
P. S.
This is a great café. Sandwiches, breads, cakes, pastries and coffee are all excellent. There's a very lively atmosphere here and great views out of the huge windows.
A bit expensive.
M. P.
My all-time favourite coffee shop in Edinburgh! I love the airy, spacious and bright interior, especially on a sunny day. The cinnamon buns are out of this world and the coffee never disappoints. Soderberg hires really friendly baristas too, so it’s always a pleasure to go back. They also give you 50p off your purchase when you bring in a keep cup which is much appreciated :)
L. W.
Went for coffee but also got cakes.
Toilets are unacceptable. It's not that they only have 1 ticket , it was dirty and looked like it hadn't been refurbished for years.
Cakes were delicious, coffees (iced latte and machiatto) were under the average you get in any cafe in Edinburgh.
Overall worth it only because it's right by the Meadows.
m. z.
Pastries and sandwiches are yum. One of my favourite cafes actually.
P. C.
Great place for lunch or a relaxed business meeting. The open sandwiches were especially good.
G. K.
You would think that a café in the heart of the Meadows, where every other person seems to be walking a dog, would offer some purchase mechanism – even for takeout – for customers with dogs. I checked both the Söderberg website and the door signage – no information on either. So I went in to queue at the counter, as there was no outside service hatch. I kept my small dog on a tight lead, and was told 'no dogs inside'.
Now I wasn't wanting to sit inside, I simply wanted to purchase from the bakery and go. To be fair they did say they could take my order outside – but if I hadn't gone inside in the first place I wouldn't have been noticed, so catch-22.
Yes, I can understand a business adopting this policy for hygiene, customer comfort etc. but I felt quite embarrassed. At the same time there were loads of toddlers running around, directly next to the trolleys of cakes and buns, so I do think this policy needs some thought.
The food is good, yes, but that's about all, Söderberg is not what it once was, and has become complacent and pricey in spite of good competition in the area as the business has grown. Contrast this with Kauai, a couple of minutes walk away, which has signage stating it is dog friendly, offers service inside and outside via a hatch, and an app-based click-and-collect facility. Söderberg, this is how it should be done.
W. S.
Excellent selection of food and buns. Great coffee. Not cheap, but very good. Good discount for reusable cup, very important!
T. W.
Nice place. Rather indifferent coffee, but excellent cakes, pastries and lite bites.
B. N.
Lovely place - really recommend the oat milk mocha - perfect balance of coffee to hot choc! A number of vegan options
J. M.
Food was okay - but not many healthy options (esp if you're avoiding gluten and dairy). Nice seating outside.
L. V. G.
The place is always very crowded, the food is ok I think is a little vital expensive in comparison with similar coffee shops... although I might try the one in Stockbridge it might be more cozy and less crowded
T. M.
Really great place next to campus! Semla/kanelbullar are super authentic <3
E. P.
Great flat white coffee and the snacks are good too. If you wish to sit in it can be busy. In the summer an outdide table under the trees is a nice experience.
C. C.
The food and coffee were equally yummy. Staff were friendly. Prices are a bit steep but nothing compared to the costs in Scandinavia. Had a lovely vibe. Would return. ..and indeed did attempt as we left the city at the end of the day but it was closing. :(.
M. R.
Excellent food, comfortable place to get breakfast, for brunch or simply enjoy a cup of coffee. I particularly enjoyed the quality of bread and cakes they have. Everything is very clean. Staff are kind and helpful. There several times already.
A. P.
Nice place, good food, gets busy mind so be prepared to wait,
R. M.
Delicious coffee and buns! Great location too.
E. R.
Nice place, very bright, in good location and with a good atmosphere. Coffee and food are good, but nothing special.
B. C.
Nice coffee, very tasty cinnamon bun, good location just off the Meadows, service was a little sketchy.
K. G.
10/10 cinnamon buns and coffee (soya and oat milk available)! Really loved it here, lots of wearing and friendly staff! The downside is there weren't really any vegan options available for breakfast (no vegan yogurt for the granola, or milk alternatives for the porridge) - still their signature stuff is the best, 100% worth a visit!
S. N.
The kardommabullar are superb! Coffee is good. Service is friendly. Busy, popular place. Quite pricey.
J. R.
Very good tea & coffee as well as lovely fresh pastries. Nice setting along Middle Meadow Walk and in clean, bright premises.
c. h.
Great spot to drink great coffee and people watch
S. M.
Their coffee and baked goods are tasty, but for the size of what you buy you really don't get much bang for your buck. And it's this lack of portion sizes that really lets it down for me. As others have noted, it feels very overrated. That said, the staff are, for the most part, friendly, and its interior is nicely lit and decorated.
s. s.
Not the cheapest place around but the food it fresh and good!
I. C.
This place is amazing! Very handy as a study spot for University students or For a coffee to go to walk around the park! The cinnamon buns are just the best, I would just come back to Edinburgh for this place!
G. D. G.
It's a nice alternative to the usual British chains of cafeteria. I like tasting different cakes with my Earl Gray tea, that's a good quality here. I think other drinks are good too, judging by other people reactions, although not one of my Italy friends has dared trying a cup of coffee. The position in the park is pleasant, the toilets need improvement.
C. S.
This spot is a Meadows institution. Lovely coffee and the baking is excellent as they are part of a small independent chain that includes bakeries. The cardamom and cinnamon buns are a must-try and they even do a bun loaf to take home. The coffee is superb. A great spot to meet friends and stroll round the park with your coffee. Also two other Soderbergs nearby, one which does excellent fresh pizza.
K.
Amazing sandwich, tasted very fresh. Coffee was also great! Plenty of space and nice setting.
S. S.
Good coffee and nice vibe! Soderberg is a staple for some post-run pastries on a Sunday morning :)
N.
Great coffee. Great atmosphere. Gorgeous plants. Only complaint is that theres no wifi, so it's not ideal for studying. However I often use this coffee shop for reading papers as it gives a distraction free environment. So as long as you a prepared before going to study, everything is good.
R. L.
The cardamom buns are superb! I'd also highly recommend the spelt scones - they don't look very fancy but they're totally delicious. Also - Soderberg are following Govt Covid guidelines carefully and the cafe feels very safe.
a. a.
Cool location, we only tasted the pastries but they were phenomenal. Would go again to have coffee and sit down.
G. P.
I have a difficult time walking by this place without going in and buying something. This light-filled cafe has wide variety of delicious pastries (the savory scones are my favorite!) and always serves up a perfect cappuccino.
M. A.
This is a nice place, but I was disappointed to only find one vegan option two days in a row. Pretty pricey, too.
G. L.
Really the best base for exploring the edinburgh fringe. Excellent location, great food and the occasional artist to ogle. Excellent choice of sweet and salty food, you cannot beat the cinnamon rolls. Should the weather gods be fortunate there is even some outdoor seating for the hardy. Be aware of the bicycle lane right in front, to avoid being run over by an overenthusiastic biker.
I. R.
I didn't have a drink but ate one of the Swedish cinnamon bun which was lovely. Very busy mainly students. Place could have a few more staff to keep the tables clean and clear. Services were very very quick. Coffee as by my husband was good. Would come again.
K. G.
I love how bright and open this cafe is! Even when the weather is horrible, Peter's Yard always seems to remain sunny. The coffee and tea selection is lovely, the food is always fresh and delicious, and the desserts are to die for. I can never resist getting a cup of filter coffee and an almond tart (HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMBO). The toffee cookies are also amazing.
M.
Had a great experience here, they have delicious cardamom buns and great ice cream. I highly recommend getting a snack here
P. R.
Nice bistro with wide selection of pastry, sandwiches and other quick-lunch foods. The coffee is very good, and the food is fresh. No complaints about the content, but the staff looked confused about the orders (which is weird, since they give you numbers to avoid that).
L. C.
Best cinnamon buns in town and the latte yummy
L.
I looooove this place. They have very good tea. Their staff is very friendly. Their baked goods look as though they came out of a fairy tale, and are so beautiful that they are overwhelmingly tempting. They sell the best chocolate in the world Can't wait until I'm not pregnant anymore so I can have a coffee and a pastry. I hear that their food is very good too.
A. W.
Excellent tea & coffee , always good cakes and the soup is a favourite. Friendly atmosphere and great location near the meadows, great to sit outside on a sunny day. Can get busy on a weekend afternoon but there's plenty of space so you won't have to wait long.
L. C.
great food, for all tastes and dietary requirement. great coffee, I love their soya milk cappuccino. great location, too! who doesn't like laying in the sun, with coffee and a cinnamon bun right in the Meadows? prices are a bit high, but worth it!
W. B.
Absolutely wonderful experience here late afternoon on a dismal foggy day. The waiters and chef went out of their way to keep customers happy. I had just a soya flat white with a delicious huge fresh and satisfying chunk of banana with walnut cake. And upon leaving was handed one of few remaining wholemeal Nigella seed , sundried tomato, olive scones since had taken o long to choose between the banana cake, this scone, lemon with poppy seed cake and franzipan tart. Given only managed half the cake, have bought the scone plus remaining cake back for a treat tomorrow. A huge thank you to the staff who are doing such an excellent job in these challenging times. Finally a word of warning........the coffee is seriously strong. Serious stuff not foe the faint hearted!
E. T.
Nice place for a coffee and a sweet bite, excellent position, but truly overpriced. That is the missing star. Very popular hangout for students. Delightful in the good season, when u can sit outside without turning into a wet dumpling.
E. O.
Earlier this week was the second time I'd been to Peter's Yard - and now I like the place twice as much! I've been there before for coffee and a cheeky bun or two! This place is in a beautiful part of Edinburgh and the place itself has a really laid back feel to it, you could literally spend hours there. The other night I went for pizza and believe me if you are after good pizza this is the place to go. It was the best pizza I've had in ages and the other people I was with enjoyed it too. I'm even planning on going there again soon. Also the staff are super friendly here. Def worth going to if you are visiting Edinburgh.
J. S.
Great pastries, especially those cardamom buns! I'm crazy for those, but not so much the coffee which comes lukewarm and a bit burnt last three times I went there (in a tiny tiny cup).
A. D.
Consistently tasty fresh baked goods and good coffee too!
A. T.
Go for the food, skip the coffee!
They have great food, pastries, and fun condiments, that I'll definetly be back for, but they do not know how to make a cup of coffee. Was almost undrinkable.
K. K.
Awesome place for coffee and a homemade cinnamon roll! However, its a bit pricey especially the cinnamon roll (7 pounds for cinnamon and coffee!)
A. A.
Great place for an inventive, fresh and delicious lunch. They make all their own bread and its some of the best in the city. Not the lowest prices, but I think it can largely be justified by the quality. They are famous for their crispbread which is well worth a try, but I would say the cardamom buns and pistachio horseshoes are the highlights, along with any number of interesting pastries. It can be hard to find a table at peak times, but there's always the to-go branch just around the back.
L. S.
One of my favourite places in the city, I can't understand why people are packing out Starbucks a few doors down when this place is just right there!
They do a fabulous flat white, and lots of tasty treats to go with it. Highly recommend the cinnamon buns.
H. W.
Deceptively simple artisan food and a congenial atmosphere - this just about sums up Peter's Yard. Some of the bakery offerings take a little getting used to, but for those accustomed to Scandinavian tastes, I am sure that they are amazing. My only complaint - it isn't nearly big enough to accommodate its clientele in winter. When the summer comes, and the outdoor seats are feasible, it is a different matter all together.Still, this is a good problem for an establishment to have, I have no doubt.
K. W.
Delicious food - particularly their pastries - and a great selection of tea and coffee. It's in a great location by the university, but never feels too studenty. There are plenty of tables, but the glass-fronted building makes it seem very airy, and it's extremely cosy to curl up there with some rose tea and a cinnamon bun whilst it's raining outside!
N. C.
I travel the length of Edinburgh to Middle Meadow Walk for their cardamom buns, and their Stockbridge cafe is the only location for a creamy icecream to accompany my post work chill along the bubbling peace of the Water of Leith, top notch staff too 💥🤩🎉
F. A.
Good selection of Swedish classic snacks, however isn’t as tasty as real Swedish food. Lovely interior and great for studying or a lunch date, and very friendly staff. Prices are a little on the dear side but not extortionate.
D. N.
They serve the usual tasty Soderberg buns, but the service is sooo slow! Watched some staff on the drinks and they were so inefficient and too focused on mucking about, completely unphased by the fact there were so many people waiting. 15 minutes to get two takeaway hot chocolates. Soderberg needs to get an experienced manager in here that is willing to chivvy the staff along a bit.
S. M.
Peter's Yard is located on a pedestrian walk far from the fuss of the cars. They have a lovely outside setting area to enjoy the sunny days.
In the shop, I could buy....everything from the juices, to the pastries, sandwiches and breads. Everything look lovely. For my first try, I had the fresh orange juice, the savoury scone and the wild garlic and a large spinach bread (for home of course!).
The juice really fresh and the scone....was one of the best I had to try so far. Flavoured with fresh spinach leafs and cheddar, it tasted delicious!
£7.7 for all that is reasonable even more when everything is delicious!
T.
During a couple of days spent in Edinburgh this was the best coffee we found. I also enjoyed a pastry filled with raspberries and custard. The cafe is pleasant and airy with plenty of outside seating in a pedestrianised area.
A. D.
Mediocre cinnamon buns, plus they don’t (and won’t) heat them up for you plus no WiFi makes this a below-average cafe
J. F.
Super hot chocolate. What a shame the chocolate balls do not taste of chocolate in any way. One bite and your mouth is nuked with flavour of coffee. My advice - stick to the cinnamon rolls.
R. M.
Food is tasty but far too expensive with over-rated scandanavian vibe in my opinion.
Central location with meadows nearby provides convinience and accessibility. Cakes and pasteries all exposed on table in centre made me question food hygiene.
Overall it was nice but there are other alternatives that are cheaper. Don't go to the Starbucks nearby though as it is filled to the brim with students looking for free accomodation!
W. o. S.
A nice Swedish café with a selection of Swedish cakes and the selection of coffees you'd expect to find at a café. There's a small but not extensive selection of savouries too. You have to order at the counter so choosing can be a bit awkward if there are a few customers waiting. The decor is quite minimalist and the prices are slightly expensive. The glass exterior means it's very bright inside so it's a good place for reading books. All in all this is good choice if you'd like to try a selection of small cakes that are different from standard UK café fayre and don't mind spending a little more than average.
J. H.
Best coffee, sandwiches and pastries we saw in Edinburgh weekend. Great location, cool space perfect outdoor seating. Why anyone was in Starbucks 3 doors up is unfathomable!
G. A.
Lovely place. It might be a bit pricey but it is just located in one of the most expensive areas of Edinburgh. They have dairy-free alternatives so I was able to enjoy a lovely hot chocolate. It isn't the cosiest place but it looks beautiful. There is usually places to sit and is very close to the cycling.
D. R.
Delicious food. A little bit pricey, though. Staff was kind of all over the place, charged for some items twice and seemed a bit lost.
L. S.
I had a oniony pastry and a hot chocolate with cardamon. Neither were spectacular as I was disappointed in both things I bought but it's obviously a popular place due to a convenient location and wide offering. Quite buzzing, busy, and noisy so better to go elsewhere if you're looking for a relaxing ambience.
D. M.
Had a quick lunch with wife and my son here. Very popular for people to have a coffee break. Service is good and staff are friendly.
However, there are limited choices for food, and not much suitable food for young kids.
A. C.
Best place to sit in Edinburgh. Have spent entire days here. The amazing coffee & delicious cakes help too. Coffee is the same price as highstreet chains but of incomparably better quality. Cakes/food are pricey but the taste matches the cost!
A. S.
Great coffee and go-to place for cardamom buns
C. B.
Good quality coffee and plenty choices of pastries and appetizers; this swedish cafe chain still one most popular cafes of Edinburgh. You can enjoy a nice cuppa of coffee walking around the meadows (weather permit).
S. L. (.
A great local place to go for coffee/ hot chocolate/ breakfast / lunch. Everything made fresh on the premises, from this location you can see them baking in the kitchen which is always fun!
I recommend the cardamom hot chocolate and the buns. Yum!
N. W.
Lovely buns and delicious hot chocolate. Friendly atmosphere and service. Kids welcome, and blankets for brave soles who want to sit outside at the covered tables (it was raining today).
C. F.
I like Soderberg, but it is expensive. The blueberry buns are absolutely delicious as the are the cardamom ones, but not cheap. I would recommend it as a special occasion rather than a daily visit
a. l.
Great iced coffee and Swedish pastries. A little pricey but the quality is high. I sat outside where it was fun to people watch
C. M.
I loved this place for late night food but so it loses a few stars from me now that they've changed the opening hours from 11pm until 6 and the pizzas were delicious, though I think they may have got rid of them too. However, the cakes are fantastic and it's a great place to sit outside in the summer.
B. S.
Pleasant break on a pleasant day
Soup with bread was really good
Chocolate balls were adored by the children
J. H.
Great coffee and atmosphere! Nice to sit outside. Could improve its flexibility towards food options in the afternoon- sandwiches were all sold out. I guess they have been good :)
H. N.
Peter's Yard is always busy! So you can't stick around for too long. But there produce is of a high standard and they are particularly good at pastries. Don't come here for a late lunch - there may be nothing left as they don't cook I order. It's also more expensive than most places nearby.
P. C.
Peter's Yard was a happy surprise round the corner from work. This cafeteria and bakery has an amazing selection of Swedish pastries and cakes, freshly made salads and sandwiches and is the perfect spot to warm up when it's very cold outside. And if it's not that cold, well, their food is a good excuse to pop in and treat yourself. I love the cardamom buns... Try them ;)
M. E.
Tidy little coffee house. Great coffee actually.
J. C.
Good quality Scandinavian style food. Bit noisy & busy on a Saturday morning. Lots of families. Put off a little by the food (buns, breads, cakes) being out on a table & uncovered in the middle of the public area. Irrational but I can't help imagining grubby hands & uncovered coughing mouths being all over them (and the baked goods drying out whilst lying uncovered all day). However, I braved a foccacia and it was v good 😋
B. S.
Some of the best baked (high street) goods I've tried. Well worth a visit. Nice and airy open plan space to nibble and relax in. I'll return if I'm back in Edinburgh.
R. D.
Situated at the North end of the Meadows, Peter's Yard is ideal for a quality coffee and maybe a treat of an extensive selection of cakes. It does tend to get quite busy (a sign of quality I guess) but if you can get a table it's worth visiting and spending some relaxing quality time.
P. P.
This is a world-class bakery. The bread is outstanding – certainly the best in Edinburgh and possibly in Scotland. Tthe sweets and the coffee are very good. Pizza and soup I'd say average and not a strength of the place. Service can be slow, especially at busy times. The glass building in the former Royal Infirmary complex is surprisingly warm for a glass building in Edinburgh. Originally started by Swedes as an early morning coffee shop/bakery with a Swedish slant, this is now more of an all day spot. They stay open and also serve some wine and beer in the evening.
M. F.
My friend from Norway introduced me to Peters Yard and it's been one of my favourite places for coffee, cake and lunch ever since. My favourites are double espresso with hot milk and a lemon tart. They also have a small ice cream shop at the back with the best blueberry ice creams in Edinburgh( or in the world for that matter).
E. V.
Nice place to sit down for a coffee, lovely atmosphere. However, they are not sanitizing tables after guests leave which is not good during covid.
C. E.
Great for a morning coffee. Excellent pastries. Yogurt granola bowl is generous with a wide selection of fresh fruits.
L. D.
Great place to have a coffee after a walk in the Meadows. Great menu of diantries and coffee/tea. I like the scandinavian design which fits pretty well in the Quartermile style. Can be very crowded but totally worth it
R. F.
Söderberg is a great place to eat a sandwich for lunch or have a cake, like a chocolate mud cake or a cinnamon bun as a nice treat. The atmosphere is calming and it's an amazing place to sit and study for school or complete homework.
J. M.
There's a bit of a culture clash because the cafe Söderberg is next to a street with Simpson in the name. I don't really know what train of thought to follow when I'm enjoying a mint chocolate chip latte. However, I do remember that George Clooney and Matt Damon met up at a bar in Ocean's Eleven when Danny Ocean wanted to recruit Linus to his team. I guess it's not a cafe so I shouldn't have brought it up. It was a fun movie though, and I didn't even mind the female continuation of it. Then again, anything with Cate Blanchett is usually a winner. Anyway, Ocean's Eleven was directed by Steven Soderbergh so he doesn't even spell it the same way. I bet he's never even heard of the meadows because there are no allusions to it in any of his filmography
C. P.
Great coffee, artisan pastries and mouth-watering open sandwiches all topped off with a side of Scandi-chic. No, I haven’t let my imagination run away with me, this place really does exist and it’s called Peter’s Yard. All of this and I haven’t even got to the pizzas yet. You guys are in for a treat.
There are two of these lovely establishments in Edinburgh and the quality at each is incredible. The smell of freshly baked breads and pastries filter out into the street and draw you in. Once inside, prepare yourself for a tough decision. But don't worry, nothing will disappoint – I’m a massive fan of the apple and raspberry slice with a perfectly made latte. Oh and the sourdough pizzas. They are to die for.
At the Meadows branch, grab a seat at the window and watch the world go by. If you visit the Stockbridge establishment, ogle the food on display and plan what you’re going to have next time … that’s if you can resist. I’ve been known to go in for a second pastry!
J. b.
Absolutely beautiful place to go . The food is absolutely amazing all is so well presented .the food is really good quality. I will definitely come back again
T. A.
A wide range of tasty goodies and great coffee for take away, usually busy but with room for everyone. It's nice to share the large table with busy strangers.
q.
Coffee bit bitter compared to other places, but lovely staff & food. plenty of space to sit.
B. F.
Great place to sit out and read. Enjoy the Hibiscus tea and get your blood pressure down. Nice people and it's incredibly modern and laid back. Reccomended highly.
L. B.
For anyone looking for the Scandinavian café experience Peters Yard is the place to be. Having half my family over in Scandinavia Peters Yard is a nice slice of home. Once I found out about this I came over and was amazed to find my favourite baking here in the UK! I love their boller! Compared to a regular café the prices can be a little higher but paying for great quality is always worth it. Once thing I would say though is it can be a little tightly packed so with my girlfriend in her wheelchair, she does have to ask people to move their bags for a second or move a chair or two to get past. But it is still a brilliant place!
B. H.
Such a nice and helpful staff. Decor is fab, food and cakes are great. Baby changing available with also seatings and blankets outside. My favourite place to go..
A. B.
Finally somewhere to satisfy my fika craving. The only place to get really authentic Swedish baked goods in Edinburgh. Wouldn’t go for a meal though, over priced and fairly average
J. S.
Certainly is the advertised Scandinavian experience. Nicely decorated interior. They even charge Oslo prices for the ultimate authenticity...
Jokes aside, the food is good and fresh, just alarmingly expensive. The pricing fits the location though, located in Edinburgh's most expensive postcode.
C.
I could eat here every day and never get bored. Absolutely beautiful food in a lovely location and friendly staff. The sandwiches are delicious, the cakes beautiful and the coffee excellent.
K. S.
First up, there NO wifi! Argh! Go loaded with 3G or switch to airplane mode. There's something rather quaint about a coffee shop as relaxed as this and in the area it is to not have wifi. Can I get past that? I don't know! I have had a few business meetings here and it's great for that purpose. The food is all organic, gluten free yada yada and it really is yummy. Staff are friendly too, always a bonus. Did I mention that it has no wifi?
S. C.
If you like Scandinavian food, spiced baked pastries, open sandwiches, warming soups then Peter's Yard is a good place to try. However I'd add that you might need to have a bit of money ready as it is one of the more expensive places in the area. A pot of tea is £2.60 which is getting close to London prices, though this almost makes sense as it is part of the Quartermile development. Cost aside, Peter's Yard has excellent food and coffee and great service and will use your keep cup if you care about reducing waste.
A. C.
Excellent coffee with real depth of flavour.
Wide selection of quality pastries to choose from.
Delightful coffee experience.
G. M. C.
Hello ! I'm Giuseppe Manzoli-chef a Professional Private chef for Edinburgh and all over Uk. Today I've meet one of my clients there and I've to say the place was very busy but with nice people in and the service and the staff was great... Whe have had two cakes and coffee.. Excellent !
Thank you Guys ! Well done !
J. L.
Luv their latte sooo much! Also the banana and walnut cake🤍 Saviors for working 🤤
A. J.
Coffee and pastries were excellent. Polite, friendly staff. Good covid measures in place.
D. H.
Best Food and Best Pastries i've ever had and experienced in all of Edinburgh. A little bit on the expensive side, but everything is made from excellent quality ingredients. Lovely staff, lovely place
T. O.
Very good coffee. Nice location and relaxing atmosphere. I'd give 5 stars if there's a free WiFi.
A. E.
Great range of sweet and savoury treats and plenty of space to sit in or out while getting as much daylight as possible.
M. H.
I don’t get the hype around this place?? I always thought it was busy due to its location but the coffee and food are good but nothing spectacular. The pizza at the QM branch is nice but disappointed that they discontinued the prosciutto pizza.
J. H.
Great food, drink (esp coffee) and service. Everything delicious and great setting, incl outside seating area.
Some items a bit expensive.
C. C.
Nice coffee but £3.60 for a takeout latte are you fr
g. m.
Nestled within one of the Quartermile development's blocks on Middlemeadow walk this place can get very busy with the large number of students and general passers by. The service is perfectly acceptable but can suffer because of it. Depending on the time of day you might find the selection of things to eat diminishes as they run out but that is the nature of making it fresh every day. Outside seating in the better weather adds to the ample communal style seating indoors. The Icecream counter is around the back...
B. K.
Lovely atmosphere...amazing looking baked goods!! Nice sweet potato vegan roll. Split pea soup not so lovely
L. R.
Really enjoyed the Swedish breakfast. Coffee is great too. This place is not cheap, but the food is good and service quite fast, even when it is packed.
L. V.
The cakes are absolutely amazing and you'll love this place, if you're keen on Swedish food! Great stuff! If only the prices were a little bit friendlier...
D. G.
I like this place, but the coffee is not so good. Many seats and really delicious cakes, that is what I like the most.
C. K.
Lovely coffee, hot chocolate and delicious cakes. Staff are all helpful and polite.
M. M.
Moody waitors, regular coffee.
Rasberry brownies are too sweet. I would go again for the lovely view and the buns.
M. M.
Great selection of food and beverage, and nice atmosphere, there is a lot of light thanks to all of the window. The staff wasn't particularly friendly and I didn't find it too easy to find a place to work with my laptop
L. P.
Always reliable. Good coffee, bread, soup and sandwiches. Havent tried any cakes yet but they look delicious too
A. A.
Just popped in for a takeaway Latte (£2.90), but the place is very nice from the inside and has a long bench/table. Friendly staff and decent coffee.
M. G.
Lovely food and atmosphere in a idyllic location. Just a shame about the steep prices!
Also - the men's toilet is partly broken and just plain dirty - nothing usual, however for such an expensive café I expected better
J. D.
Great coffee and food but prices have gone up so much over the past year I can no longer justify the expense on a regular basis. Shame.
D. B.
Great cup of coffee scone and cake on a wet morning. Very friendly staff, thanks!
R. P.
Amazing treats, delicious not too sweet hit chocolate, cool scandi vibes - what's not to love
L. C.
Very nice place to eat or have coffee, lovely food and coffee . just prices are on the high side with a sandwich for 6.70 to have in . Flat white is ok price at 2.80
F. W.
Best oatmilk cappuccino! And their cinnamon and cardamom buns are amazing and taste the same as they do in sweden :)
H. M.
the scandi version of its neighbour - better coffee, cleaner food, fresher atmosphere.... and much more expensive. But worth it. delightful fresh baking.
L. A.
Great coffee for a good price. Food is expensive, but of good quality. Hard to find a place to sit as the place is often quite full.
C. L.
Very good cakes, couldn't say the same thing for their coffee 👎
B. R.
Breakfast so good, huge portion. Great cakes & coffee.
E. G.
Lovely bright cafe with fantastic open sandwhiches. Yum! Very friendly staff too. A special treat of a place.
J. R.
Great coffee and amazing cakes! Friendly staff. Coffee orders taken and then brought to your table.
F. S.
£17 for a flat white, hot chocolate, orange juice and two pastries (cold).
R. M.
Love the coffee here - also cinnamon buns are a must! Nice place to drink a coffee and watch the world go by:)
S. M.
Our 2 years old loves coming to Söderberg, so we keep coming back. The breakfast boards are nice, but on the expensive side.
B. T.
Great savoury snacks, cakes and biscuits. Strong coffee. Friendly staff
C. H.
My favourite place for coffee. It's bright, airy and does the best cinnamon buns in the world!
a. m.
Uber vogue, metropolitan liberal hang out. I’m not really cool enough to go in, but I did, and was served a great coffee and offered a fine selection of coffee related accompaniments!
C. N.
Good coffee, outside seating and good baked goods. A bit too pricey, no plugs for charging and no WiFi
P. T.
Part of a chain. Good coffee and great lunchtime menu. Never hurry you out, good place to bring a laptop
C. S.
You can find here one of Edinburgh's best coffees! Cakes and food and teas are also lovely, just perhaps a tad expensive as a student, but definitely worth it otherwise!
A. B.
They have the best sweet bakeries.
M. B.
Big place which is good to avoid superspreaders. They are big fans of creme fraiche - you have been warned
I. M.
great place to meet for a chat or catch up with people. Coffee far better than the generic stuff a few door up and a great selection of things to eat.
A. M.
Pastries and coffee are really good but quite overpriced. It's usually super busy so not great for studying/getting work done
R. W.
Pastries and coffee are pretty good and the café itself is a nice environment to sit for a while.
N. C.
Very 'hip' with students and 'creatives' and the prices reflect that audience. Good coffee, good pastries......
J. C.
Scandinavian style cafe on the edge of the Meadows park. On a warm day you can sit outside and watch the world passing by on foot or two wheels!
S. K. D.
Friendly, simple and serving wonderful food (the coffee is pretty tasty, the cardamom hot chocolate I'm told is pretty special) definitely worth a visit
K. H.
Slowest service ever. If you are in rush or planned something, please don’t come here. The service is very slow and takes around 15 minutes even for a take away coffee
L. E.
The best Cinnamon buns ever... And delicious cardamon hot chocolate too
L.
Very cozy and nice place, fun for a Swedish tourist to explore. P.S. you you serve the classic Swedish tea "söderte"!
E. W.
Went for coffee and cake. Order at the counter. Very busy, popular with students but not particularly cheap.
N. P.
Good coffee, friendly staff and the cardamom buns are delicious. The only problem is it's just always so busy!
S. C.
Nice ambiance, friendly staff and great food. A nice place to chat with friends, have some work done or just eat and coffee.
E.
Fairly limited choice of food by the afternoon. Only a place for tea and coffee. Good service
C. M.
Cakes are good but a lot more expensive than other cafes and no WiFi.
A. C.
Yes, yes, definitely yes. Go there any chance you get. Always delicious food and great coffees.
Perfect to sit outside and observe people walking down the meadows.
P. R.
Excellent vegan breakfast!
V. S.
Very cosy place. I like the back of the shop when it's not busy. Try their pastry, 9/10!
F. N.
Fabulous food and friendly service but toilets were not clean. Very disappointed as should be doubly clean during CoVid.
N. K.
Good coffee and really nice staff, however it is a tad overpriced when compared to similar offerings
P. L.
Very enjoyable stop off for a tea and bun, lots of light lunch options and comfy seating.
S. A. K.
Wonderful place with a good selection of freshly baked swedish treats. Also has some lighter lunch options.
O. A.
Cold hot chocolate and rude waitress when asked if we could have it hot. Not much to ask, otherwise nice food!
A. K.
Perfect break from the Uni library, reminded me of Swedish adventures with all the amazing smells and design of the place :) Loved it!
J. W. S.
Excellent breakfast pastries and coffee. The atmosphere is warm and friendly.
G. L.
Great astomphere, just as good coffee and breakfasts. I'd highly recommend Peters yard to anyone who wants breakfast before 9am.

I. B.
Great coffee and bread prepared on site. Also has vegetarian and vegan options.
S. -.
Friendly service and delicious cookies. Coffee is decent , and better at the takeaway store nearby.
T. K.
Great staff, great food and amazing peaceful atmosphere. No wind since it's important in Edinbirgh to sit outside without shaking 😁
S. L.
It is a cafe selling good food at a high price. I found it a bit cold and sterile, with the seating packed too close together.
D. W.
Coffee was lovely, and staff were pleasant. Not a great selection would be my only comment.
S. M.
Try the wee red topped marzipan and Berry tart things. They're dead good
L. A.
The lattes taste like dreams, and the rhubarb vanilla buns complement them well. Crowded on the weekends.

Fantastic cinnamon buns! If you’re in a rush, head to their takeaway bakery.
