We were lucky to walk in without booking to get a table. So I would recommend booking! But wow, best pancakes I’ve ever had! All ingredients were clearly very fresh. The atmosphere is lovely, and staff were great. Highly recommend!

The terrible mood I was in instantly evaporated the moment I was welcomed in to Tani Modi by the warmest smile beaming beyond the lady’s mask. We had a veggie breakfast and black cherry pancakes and I think they must use some sort of witchcraft as it was delicious beyond our wildest brunchy dreams. I refuse to leave. I want to eat here forever. Amazing food, beautiful service, coffee incredible and lovely music. If this review spurs to you to eat here, make sure you leave a table for me!

Fantastic place to eat! I'm so pleased I did a little research and found this beautiful little place. Just a 5 min walk off the main stretch of Princes Street you have to visit here if you are in the city. The food was excellent, the staff were very helpful and accomodating and everything was reasonably priced. The Scotsman breakfast in my picture was hot and one of our party had the pancakes with maple syrup and bacon and said it was delicious. Do not go anywhere else!!!!

Staff were lovely, but our breakfast was a little underwhelming. I don’t want to give low stars a as it’s clearly a very good place to eat on what others say, we maybe just got an off day. We had the cooked breakfast. The sausage is Very herby and we couldn’t eat it. The bacon was really over cooked and it was breaking when you put a fork in it to pick it up. Our poached egg whites were runny and undercooked. The flat mushroom was lovely as was the toast and coffee.

This really is a hidden gem! We didn't have a booking, but they managed to squeeze in something because someone didn't show up (lucky us). The little bistro is beautiful and warmly done, the food and staff is excellent! We had a condino and a piadina ...now condino is a sandwich and piadina is a pita wrap...me and my wife shared so that is wht the picture will show both, food extremely good and tasty! The coffee...good and flavoured! 10/10 recommend!

Great little cafe offering a range of breakfast and brunch options, hot and cold. Prices were good compared to similar places in the city centre and the basement location gives it an cosy atmosphere. We had the the roasted apple pancakes with cinnamon sauce and full English breakfast. Both were amazing and portions sizes were generous, but not overly so. I'd definitely recommend calling by, especially if you're in the way or on the way to Dean Village or Royal Botanic Gardens.

There was a short wait when we went - around 10:30am on a Wednesday - so I imagine it gets very full on a weekend. However, the food and service were great! The ingredients are locally sourced wherever possible and I'd just like to give a special shout out to the bagels - oh my goodness! Combined with the excellent scrambled eggs, they made for an excellent brunch. The coffee was really good too and the food arrived promptly despite it being busy.

I came to Tani Modi by coincidence, and it was one of the best places I have been to in Edinburgh. On my first visit, I ordered an americano and a blueberry Pancakes. Oh God they were very very delicious that I had to return back to try the apples & cinnamon Pancakes, those too were the best. It’s a very cozy pleasant place with an amazingly friendly staff even on rush hour. Staff were very nice and won’t hesitate to offer help when asked. It offers a variety of food with great portion at a highly affordable prices. Next time I come to Edinburgh it would probably be my first choice for breakfast. I love it!

Beautiful breakfast. I shared with my niece so I had half of the full English and a pancake with bacon and maple syrup. Both really nice. If I had to say anything negative, it would be better if they served the maple syrup in a pot as the pancakes were a bit soaked. I personally love this but my niece wasn't very happy about it. I had a mocca and it was also really nice. Not too sweet. Would recommend 100%

Tani Modi is a intimate location to dine with friends and family and enjoy a variety of great food. I went during brunch time, which was a busy time, and waited for about 5 minutes. Once a table was available I was seated and ordered what I came for on the last day in Scotland - The Scotsman. The meal was excellent and made my entire Scotland trip complete. Thank you Tani Modi for making my trip deliciously successful!

A short walk from the city centre, this place is a terrific place to start your day. The food is sublime (personally recommend the avo and poached egg, as I am not a massive avo fan but this was incredible), the prices are very reasonable for a brunch restaurant in the city centre, and the service was terrific, as we arrived literally as the place opened and were seen to immediately and served our food quickly. The coffee is also worth a special mention.

The food... We ordered: Apple pancakes, Bacon Whisky Sauce Pancakes, Scottish Salmon croissant and a traditional full Scottish breakfast. It’s a small space and I had the pleasure of watching the chef’s masterful efforts while the rest of the staff supported her and the many hungry customers. Diabetes on a plate! We ordered American stack and maple syrup&bacon pancakes. The bacon was not too good and not fried enough, pancakes a bit too sweet for what went with them (maple syrup makes the meal sweet already). Maybe just not our gusto. The ready-made sandwiches for sale behind the glass don’t look too appetizing. Shakerato and Monte Bianco coffees were unfortunately also quite the opposite of what we expected. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Generally not the worst experience, but would not repeat.

One of the nicest and most pleasant cafes I have been to in a long time. There is a can do attitude amongst the staff. You are treated as a welcomed visitor rather than as number who is served and dispatched as quickly as possible. The food is great and always served hot. It is lovely to have the personal touch, which is sadly lacking in a lot of similar restaurant/cafes. It is certainly well worth visiting, you won't be sorry. I've been to Tani Modi many times. It is always good service and good value with a good selection of Italian and Scottish food including breakfast and light snacks. Young guy who served me today was really helpful. Cleaned tables over before I sat down. Sometimes too busy to get in in summer time sadly. Handy when shopping in George Street or that end of Princes Street.

Long overdue is this recommondation for a wonderful breakfast start in Edinburgh. Just open a couple of months ago with generous and tasty plates for breakfast together with superb coffe and a cheerful personal staff booth in the open kitchen and for sevice. Went there with a voucher bought online and the panini and hot beverage turned out to be tasty unexpectedly and so we ordered twice. Ordered Italian hot choc for drink and meatball hero for panini and they were really deliciousssss! Good place!

Probably one of the best hot chocolates you'll have, make sure you ask for it to be Italian style! If your idea of a good hot drink is a Costa / Starbucks then you won't be disappointed having this.

It seems to always be severely understaffed, therefore service is not great and food is hit and miss (great when they have time to make it properly). This is a repeat experience, especialy in the mornings, which is a shame as they have a lot of lovely things on the menu.
