Reviews of Tasty Buns
B. B.
Tasty Buns Bakery is amazing and unique! They do bespoke special orders by email which are always really tasty, have wonderful treats on their counter every day, and make great coffee. They are so lovely and helpful and really a neighbourhood gem. Check them out! Also highly recommend their cruffin boxes.

I've been in a fair share of bakeries, I've done some baking myself too, so please do not take this lightly when I say this place has the BEST desserts I've tried so far. Got just three things this time, but definitelly will be coming back for more. Lovely staff as well, overall amazing experience.

Really nice, small and modern café with friendly young staff. The coffee varieties are delicious as well as the cakes and cookies. We can highly recommend a visit for a voffee brake.

We nipped in here for a quick bite. Good selection of sweet treats. We couldn’t choose 2 so we picked 4. We opted for the crunchie brownie, white chocolate and twix slice, a vanilla oattie and a ginger and biscoff loaf slice. All of them were absolutely delicious. My favourite was probably the ginger and biscoff load which was so moist and flavours complemented themselves dry well. Close 2nd was the oattie which was quite hard on the outside but very soft on the inside. The other 2 were not far behind but also very tasty. I also got a hot chocolate which was very nice and not too sweet. Staff were welcoming and we thought it was fairly priced. I love how everything is home made and they often change their menu. For that reason, I will be back to try something else next time.

Living around the corner from this place is pure torture, my heart and waistline are in a constant battle. Do yourself a favour and get a cruffin, cookie pie and sausage roll. The bespoke cakes are also so reasonably priced (and accommodated at pretty late notice..!)
T. M.
I'm not joking when I say their blueberry cheesecake is the best I've ever had. Their coffee is great, and reasonably priced too. The food is a really decent portion size. Loads of sweet options, and a few savoury. Great for sit in or takeaway!
EDIT: I ordered a cheesecake from them for my birthday party and I highly recommend. The filling is light as air rather than being cakey. They worked with me to create a custom cheesecake and all at a very reasonable price for the amount of food. They say the large size would serve 10 people, but it would easily have served 20. Highly recommend!

The most amazing cakes you will ever see and also celebration takes Louise has made are just WOW!!

My #1 go-to for sweet treats in Edinburgh and the coffee/hot chocolate is great too. The range of cakes/bins/truffles/eclairs is always very different and I usually come away with a little selection (eaten the same day, of course - food coma time). Love this place!

I ordered a bespoke 60th birthday cake last month and it was amazing!! We had 2 flavours, raspberry and coconut, and malteaser. Both were so tasty. Triple later so a lot bigger than expected, which is never a bad thing with cake!
The decorations of meringues and macarons were just as delicious and hard not to pick off the cake and eat.
The only issue with such a big cake, it made cutting small slices difficult as the soft cake flopped with the weight... Tragically we had to eat bigger slices.
Would recommend tasty buns cakes for any occasion, or for the fact it's a Thursday 😊
I. E.
Delicious sandwich for lunch today (a bit of dessert too), top notch bread of course! Great local bakery.
S. T.
Nice little cafe with a good range of cakes that you have to try. Went for the Ferrero Roche brownie and the White Chocolate rocky road slice. Both were amazing but VERY sweet so I had to keep the rest for later. Would go again if I was in need of a big sugar hit
W. L.
They have the most delicious brownies!! Drop in and get anything, I bet it is all just as good as their spectacular brownie. Everything looked delightful and we hope to be back again soon.
H. J.
One of the best cafes in Edinburgh! Go here as often as I can and its always been delicious. The bakes always have great flavours and are good portion sizes. The tiramisu brownies are one of my favourites and always mark their scone fests in my calendar!
Plus the staff are super friendly and always seem up for a chat.
P.
Tasty buns provided two occasion cakes for our small wedding in May - one gluten free. Both tasted and looked INCREDIBLE. We also couldn't resist the Vietnamese coffee bun and macaroni bread - both tasted equally amazing (also, watch out for local seagulls who also think so....).
The staff were super helpful and accommodating, we will definitely revisit when we return to Edinburgh. Thank you!!

Amazing experience! Well behaved staff and relaxing spot.. Kinder Brownies and custard cookies are my favourites !!Yummy!…
B. G.
Great bakery find with some of the most delicious and creative combinations imaginable - plus some not to be missed boozy inspired bakes.
The cookie pies and brownies are some of our go to favourites no matter the flavour and all with a great cup of coffee on the side.
Would recommend and lovely staff to top it off!
C. G. H.
Most incredible cookie-dough-brownie-pie-cake. Ever. Also very friendly service and good coffee!
K. B.
The focaccia for the sandwiches is out of this world good. Desserts are always wonderful, especially the coffee buns :)
P. C.
After walking by hundreds of times on my way to work I finally had the time to sit down in this cute cafe. It is a bit narrow but there is plenty of space in the back. Ordered the hot chocolate and a brownie and both were delicious and very good value for money. Also, the waiter/barista was very nice and friendly.
T. A.
I try to go here whenever I'm in this part of town as their cakes are like nothing else. Everything I've had here has been memorably good. Really inventive cakes, desserts and savoury things and a menu that changes all the time. Took a box of cakes round to a friend's last year and they said they still bring up how good they were now. Super reasonably priced and really friendly.
S.
Really enjoyed this today. First time but the cakes were lovely. The coffee could have been a bit hotter but very good all the same. 😁
D. H.
I go here regularly and I've never had anything that wasn't absolutely delicious. Eclairs, crullers, scones, sausage rolls... All incredible. I bough three different types of scone last time and each one was my favourite.
N. S.
Stellar! Always a wide range of treats on offer, and I have yet to be disappointed by any. I’m still dreaming in particular about the brown butter raspberry cake I had a while ago (even though I’ve gotten to enjoy plenty more of their bakes since)!
J. S.
Amazing Bakes super friendly staff absolute must if you are visiting Edinburgh
T. O.
Honestly best place to get some tasty treats! Which ones you ask? Well, ANY to be honest! The scones are stellar, the brownies the best, and the coffee the creamiest. Whichever you decide to indulge on you will have made the right choice. Also the staff are absolute sweethearts! Cant wait to stuff my face there again!!!!! A+++++++
T. C.
GREAT SCONES
SERVICE
The guy in there was pretty friendly and it wasn't too busy so the service was very quick. He brought everything for me at my table.
FOOD
The scones was pretty good but I'd say the jam was the real winner on the plate.
The flat white was nice.
I'm interested in the event that's coming up called Sconefest. I think they said there would be 9 different types of scones.
C. M.
Had sadly not been recently due to Recent Events, but all the food here just as delicious as ever. First there's the tasty soup or seasonally delightful sandwich, but even the plain focaccia is so good I have a hard time calling it plain. The drinks are good, and the desserts are why we came down from Fife today - the rest of our visit is an excuse!! Staff are wonderful and incredibly helpful, and the pandemic house rules all clearly signposted and sensible. Can't wait to come back!
W. B.
Honestly the most outstanding bakes in Edinburgh. Tasty Buns put a cherry on top of the cherry! Always different flavours, a good range of options every day (some of them boozy), and really great coffee served by friendly people.
The roulades have become my personal sweet favourite, and the epic cheese scones my preferred savoury option. Look out for Tasty Buns' Scone Fest, where different sweet, savoury, and boozy scones make an appearance for the day. But don't be late, they always sell out!
N. W.
Favourite bakery ever! The cakes are amazing! Brownies, buns, cake, loaves. The flavours are so varied it's like they know the flavour combinations you're going to love before you do. Cannot recommend this wee place highly enough. Staff are always so lovely and friendly too! Can also add that my coeliac friend also appreciates the ngci bakes that are there too!
C. L.
Dropped by for the Boozy Lemon Blueberry Cake and it was exceptional. Moist, crumb is light, lemon comes through for a nice tartness, not too sweet. My wife had baking envy and hopes to make one this good.
M. S.
I don’t live in Edinburgh anymore but every day I feel the absence of Tasty Buns. I used to live around the corner and would frequently treat myself to tasty delights and beverages! I would often stop by in the morning to grab something for myself and my friends! Sometimes at parties I get drunk and show people the Tasty Buns Instagram so that they too can be aware of this wonderful establishment. Still the most delicious pastries I’ve ever had and I’m quite the sweet treat connoisseur! If you find yourself in Edinburgh, you simply must go!!! Couldn’t recommend more.
H. M.
I absolutely love Tasty Buns! Such attention to detail goes into making everything feel like such a treat. It's also really reasonably priced, and has such a friendly community feeling to it. I thoroughly recommend a visit!
K.
I've been going to this fab little bakery since I moved to Edinburgh & could not recommend it more. They always have a great selection of sweet & savoury goodies on offer which are consistently brilliant. Thank you for always providing the treats! ❤
p.
Must go to place for a delicious cakes and coffee in a lovely surroundings. Don't go to chains.
K. M.
Very cozy and delicious pastries
A. H.
Wonderful staff, unique and fun baked goods that borderline on bonkers but are absolutely delicious. Great coffee, great service. Would highly recommend!
D. S.
Love a tasty buns treat. Often get some treats to see us through the weekend and always enjoy the fun flavours and tasty bakes. Lunch time toasties are delicious too!
G. A.
Cakes are to die for, absolutely delicious, really well made. Hot food is also excellent, something different every day. Staff are always friendly and welcoming and I cannot recommend highly enough
A. D.
Tasty buns is hands down the best bakery in Edinburgh. The portions are generous, the prices are so reasonable and the flavour combinations are unbeatable and always so exciting!!!! I love tasty buns.
C. R.
Tasty Buns made two amazing cakes for our unconventional wedding day - a six-serving cake and an eight-person cake. We had the large cake sliced and boxed for our guests and the Tasty Buns team couldn’t have been more accommodating throughout the entire process. We selected a couple of key flavours (white chocolate and kinder bueno) and Louise took the lead in putting together a wonderful recipe and design. Thanks so much for your efforts - the cakes were superb!!
G. S. R.
Amazing toasties, buns, cakes and any other baked goods you can imagine and those you can't! Best bakery in Edinburgh, maybe the whole world!
S. W.
Love these guys, so nice to see them whenever I go in. Great RuPaul's Drag Race Chat. Oh, and the most unbelievable selection of homemade bakes you have ever seen. Where do they get their ideas? How do they have time to make it all? Actual magical powers.
G. C.
An incredible bakery and cafe! They do the most fabulous cakes, coffee and more. One of the best in Edinburgh. We recently had a birthday cake done for my dads 60th and wow!!! It was incredible and fair to say it went quick.
A. J.
Love this bakery. The treats are out of this world, and the staff are incredible and friendly. They even helped me put together a beautiful delivery of treats for my fiancé’s 30th birthday during the height of lockdown. I love Tasty Buns!
S. A.
Utterly adore this place. The cakes and savoury treats are always spectacular and the folks who run it are also brilliant.
If you haven’t had a Mac and cheese bun, you haven’t lived.
C. C.
Cannot recommend this wee bakery and cafe enough. The cakes and coffee are absolutely delicious and the addition of lunch is just wonderful. I had really tasty pastrami sandwich followed by a delicious tray bake. The scones are amazing and the brownies are huge. They do cakes to order too, which always look awesome.
S. B.
Hands down the best bakery in Edinburgh! There’s just something so unique about this bakery and it’s creations. I always look forward to visiting here to see which cakes they have on offer for that day. A must if you’re in the city centre!
N. C.
First post lockdown visit to Tasty Buns and the guys have done an incredible job getting everything back up and running with what are simply some of the best cakes on the planet. Well...the little bit of the planet clustered around a former volcano called Edinburgh that we all know and love at least. Go there, sit in and enjoy or get a takeaway. Either way you will have a great experience and want to go back again soon!
D. F.
Tasty Buns is a lovely little bakery with amazing cakes, bakes and awesome coffee. Every time I’ve been the service has been top notch & the atmosphere super chilled. Louise, the owner also made our wedding cake - with really short notice while extremely busy and it was everything we asked for and more. Can’t thank her enough for giving us a beautiful cake that made our special day even more special! The limoncello and passion fruit tier was honestly the most delicious cake I’ve ever had! The guests adored it too - thanks again Louise & the Tasty Buns Team - will return to the shop soon for more tasty delights! :-)
K.
Tasty Buns Bakery is such an Edinburgh gem, the coffee is delicious and you will always find something absolutely mouthwatering in the counter. I would also recommend them if you want to order a special bake for a special occasion, the birthday cake I tried at a party a few weeks back, was one of the best Butter ream frosting I've ever tasted.
V. B.
Not bad but not that tasty which I have expected 😉 was not a friendly service but maybe because they were wearing mask. Probably I will return when we go back to normal.
C. F.
This cafe seating is great it's right to the back away from the main street, so you don't experience passers by looking in st you while walking past.
The coffee was most enjoyable. The takeaway cups are tiny, not much bigger than an espresso cup size, however the pricing is reasonable. There is only one size takeaway cup.
It is not possible to receive a paper receipt here, you must provide an email address and be sent your receipt electronically. This can be difficult for work places to reimburse petty cash.
The cakes looked tasty. Variety of seating, didn't use the toilet facilities, although they do have them (down stairs, no disabled access as far as I'm aware. Comfy couch at the bback of the cafe, if you have short legs too, it's quite low down.
Clean place.
J. T.
Tasty Buns is a magical palace of cake-based joy. Hands down the most reliably delicious treats in Edinburgh. Best éclairs ✅ best brownies ✅ best scones ✅ best people ✅
P. W.
Excellent little cafe with some of the best coffee I've had in a long time. One of my friends had a fresh bagel and they loved it also.
Followed covid restrictions/guidelines very well and communicated their house rules very well.
D. M.
Great range of home made cakes
Must try for anyone with a sweet tooth
Always something different and new
M. S.
Do not overlook Tasty Buns. This place is fast becoming a home away from home for a number of reasons:
It allows sitting in with ample space for social distancing.
It has incredible, well baked cakes and snacks that you can tell are crafted with care.
The coffee is excellent and consistent.
The cost is very reasonable and honestly, I look forward to coming here everytime.
Try the sticky toffee bun and focaccia, you will be astonished!
Well done Tasty Buns!!!! Thank you for being a safe haven in lockdown!
J. Z.
Ordered a bun cake for a birthday celebration and it was excellent.
Easy to order, good communication with the bakery, and it tasted every bit as good as it looked.
Very happy :)
E. S.
The cruffins are amazing! I ordered a personalised birthday cake which was also wonderful. Really recommend!
L. M.
Absolutely love Buns. Best brownies, truffles, tray bakes and cakes around (seriously, the brownies!!!). With all the (sometimes boozy) bakes and delicious coffee every minute spent in Buns is a good one and I encourage everyone to check it out! I couldn’t love this place more.
N.
I cannot recommend the baked goods enough! First encountered Tasty Buns at the Cross Borders Brewery in Midlothian...it was love at first taste!!!
The brownies are AMAZING and they always come up with such inventive flavours and combinations. The Tunnocks teacake brownie and the Porter/cream cheese were sooo delicious. We have met the team at the brewery an they are so passionate about what they do.
Now we have to visit everytime we are in Edinburgh. I can't wait for the next big party/celebration that requires a cake as I know exactly where I will be going!
G. G.
Really friendly and attentive staff - and yummy scones! ☺️
K. L.
Wowowow!! The tastiest buns I have ever had! Not only does the owner and baker work exceptionally hard to make sure there is an ever-changing array of delicious bakes on the counter, but the savory options for lunch (like homemade broccoli and stilton soup or a BANGIN' cheese and chorizo toastie on homemade bread) are equally as dope. Not to mention the coffee is on form and the staff are some of the friendliest folk on the block! My favourite coffee shop/bakery in Edinburgh by far. If you're in the area do yourself a favour and pop in - your tastebuds will be DELIGHTED you have.
R. T.
A delightful and cosy establishment, with a delicious array of sweet treats. I had the mint chocolate cheesecake which was as fantastic as its name suggests, and my girlfriend had the apple crumble cake (also as fantastic as it sounds).
10/10, will return and recomend 👌
J. A.
Went with my wee friend Shorty (Claire). We had a muffin + a coconut iced cake.Claire had a Latte. I had a hot chocolate. The cake's were homemade and wee thought all we had was really nice. Will visit again if I'm in the area
S. V. T.
This one of my favourite coffee spots. The coffee is amazing, the cakes are unreal, and the service is always top knotch! I would highly recommend!
C. L.
What you can't see in the attached photo is the slice of lemon, blueberry and liqueur cake that was in this little box up until 2 minutes ago. You will have to take my word that it was utterly delightful. Whoever baked this has managed to <insert standard Paul Hollywood compliments >.
When I came in here at roughly 130pm, there wasn't much left but this slice of cake was calling my name. Tasty Buns is calling for you to drop by and eat some of their cake.
j. k.
Great local bakery.... everything fresh and tastes amazing.. try their bagels, or scones, or a slice of loaf cake, or a brownie....
S. M.
Delicious cake, a wee mini loaf with white chocolate, strawberry and frosting. Lovely pot of tea too. Friendly staff, lovely relaxing atmosphere. Would recommend this lovely place 100%
R. M. M.
Silent space, no music, great for working. The cake that I ate was quite superb, and I had a pleasant cup of flavoured roibos tea to wash it down. Lovely lady serving was friendly, smiling and helpful. Alttogether successful.
M.
Amazing scones, eclairs, cakes… I could just name all the sweet treats.
A “must try” for everyone!
K. M.
After weeks of drooling over the instagram page, I finally made it to this wee gem. Lovely chilled atmosphere, great coffee and amazing cake. I had white russian brownie, and it was gooey and chewy and tasted so chocolatey, so goood. Staff were really friendly and helpful too. Defo be back.
R. S.
I’ve visited a few times now after a recommendation from a friend, I LOVE it.

The frangipane was good but some of the cakes are a bit stodgy. I prefer a lighter, fluffier batter but that’s just my preference.

Excellent cakes and sweet things, and most recently delicious home-baked bread for sandwiches. Good coffee, too!
