For me, this place rates much higher than some of the well known afternoon tea places in London. Everything tasted so fresh and tried three different teas during my visit. Set in a lovely library, the atmosphere only adds to the experience. Highly recommend to treat yourself for an afternoon delight.

One of the most special places in Edinburgh. I've been to the signet library regularly and the service is always amazing. Wether your there for afternoon tea, lunch or dinner during the festival the food is outstanding. It has such wonderful atmosphere and the surroundings make it feel really special. My favourite are the scones which are baked to order, so they coming steaming hot and fresh. We recently went for dinner during the Edinburgh Festival and the menu was impressive. It was very good value at £35 pp for a 3 course meal, traditional exquisite food, including haggis gnocchi, poached beef with lobster and a dark chocolate fondant. The food was presented wonderfully. We were treated so well by the staff and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Signet Library to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

I have been to many afternoon tea places in London but this one is in my top 3 with far superior ingredients. I would say normally I am not a big fan of sandwiches as they are often dry at other afternoon tea places, however here it was perfectly fresh and soft. The savoury dishes were really exquisite same goes for the sweet dishes. The tea was wonderful, I would recommend the Lapsang Souchong with the savoury dishes and then the chai with ginger for the sweet dishes. The setting was beautiful!

A *fantastic* experience, well worth it. Even if you’re somewhat on a budget, I’d encourage you to splurge and come here. If you book around lunch time, it’s only slight more expensive than you’d pay for a nice(r) meal and it’s quite the experience. The savory tray is full of delicious (two-)bites (my favourite being the traditional cucumber and cream cheese sandwich). The sweet tray contained items nothing short of magical. Strong statement, I know, but I stand by it. Both teas I tried were smoky perfection (if you’re into that). The only disappointment was the champagne (I splurged even further!). It wasn’t great. Either they tried to slip me the cava or their (house) champagne is simply subpar.

It is located in somewhat a Law Library with books all around you. - Reservations only, not easy to find a place in summer. + During reservation they ask about the dietary restrictions. + The waiters notify you about the dishes and ingredients. + Drinks are included with the afternoon package. + Variety of dishes and drinks (their tea is better than the coffee) + For the afternoon reservation you get the soup of the day, sweets, savory, and ice cream.

By far the best afternoon tea in Edinburgh. If you are looking for an extra special place to take someone this is it. Perfect for a romantic date or special occasion. The atmosphere is amazing being surrounded by thousands of volumes of varying age. It is also very private and quiet in following with the library theme and given the generous spacing of tables. The food is exquisite; beautiful to look at and eat. This is one of the few multi-course afternoon teas I have come across. Well worth the price tag. My wife and I highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning.

Afternoon tea at The Colonnades was a lovely gift. Staff were courteous and friendly with the right balance of amiable to professional. The teas were a real taste treat - more Russian Caravan, please! And served in silver pots with china cups. The savoury course was good, my favourite was the Christmas ham pie and loved the beetroot/fish meringue (husband hated it but agreed it had character and definition). The sweet course, as beautifully and imaginatively presented as the savoury, was ultimately too sweet - not something I ever say really. I had to take the mince pie and one of the delicious teeny scones home. The finishing sorbet was delicious and the sharpness was a good contrast to the sweet which had us defeated. It was a lovely experience, definitely a special occasion.

I recently went to the Colonnades with partner for afternoon tea to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Firstly the building is absolutely beautiful, with high ceilings and lovely alcoves in which we sat to eat. The service compliments the amazing surroundings with nothing being to much trouble. Myself and my partner are vegetarian and vegan respectively and the Colonnades could not have been more accommodating with specially prepared food just for us. To top this off the staff were knowledgeable about all of the dishes prepared, describing each one in detail. Additionally the selection of tea was vast, with the freedom to try as many as you like included in the price! To top this all off the champagne cocktails were fantastic with a large selection available. If you are looking for a decadent treat, whether for a special occasion or just for an amazing lunch, I cannot recommend the Colonnades enough.

This is a fabulous pop-up bar, which has taken over the beautiful Signet Library next to St Giles cathedral for the duration of the Festival. The decor is clean and impressive, and the food and service are impeccable. Various packages which include Tattoo tickets are advertised as still available - when we went, we were escorted up to the Castle past the queues and took our places in the stands with the minimum of fuss, still glowing from the aftermath of the champagne. If you want an upmarket experience in the Festival, this is it!
