Reviews of The Colony Gourmet
K. M.
Café with excellent coffee and a good selection of baked goods. 9/10 flat white and 8/10 to the cinnamon apple muffin. The best part was the sitting area with relaxing couches for a chat or high tables for working and their signature colourful fresco, see photos.

Great place for a well brewed cup of coffee with plenty of flavour. Sadly there wasn't any vegan items, so wasn't able to try the food (which smelt delicious!). The seating area is very spacious and comfortable. Has a really laid back feel.
K. J. A.
It is nice, comfortable, clean and quite cafe. Took me kids with quick breakfast. Interiors was placed nicely, specially bookshelf.

Lovely little cafe. Have been here a few times. Most of their baked goods are very delicious. Wasn't too keen on the brioche items, but the pies are certainly worth a try (especially with the small pickled chillies they sell). Coffee is tasty and atmosphere nice.
S. P.
Amazing mocha and their Portuguese tarts were delectable. Can't wait to go back! Sadly the wifi is a bit unreliable so perhaps not the best coffee shop for getting work done but otherwise 10/10

Amazing coffee, the best we have tasted in Edinburgh. Really friendly staff, great service and a lovely atmosphere. We stumbled on this little gem on the first day of a 4 day holiday and had breakfast here every day.

Amazing Brazilian coffee and authentic food.
Beautiful lounge with great decor.

We were looking for somewhere for a coffee and our plan A was very busy but I’d happened to notice this place as we walked past. So we decided to give it a try. As soon as we walked in we got a very friendly welcome and our host took the time to describe the Brazilian dishes to us. We made our choices and walked through to the back room which is beautifully decorated with a choice of low sofas or higher tables. The food arrived and was delicious. I was provided a jar of “Brazilian spices” which turned out to be small pickled chillis-very spicy which I happen to like. The coffee was great of course! So great food, great service and pleasant relaxed setting. We’ll be back (I hope).

Cosy little coffee shop in tollcross! Very cool interior decorations and great coffee! Did not have the option for soy milk however did have other non dairy milks. Really warm service given, the pastries also looked really good, although did not get a chance to taste any! WiFi available here.
D. C.
Stopped in for tea and a cake - lovely, clean, bright, quirky and delicious!
P. F.
Can’t comment on the coffee, this review is about the cakes and pastries which I got to take away. They are ok, massively overpriced for what they are. Look great but disappointed with how they tasted. I appreciate the owner replying but £10 for 3 bland cakes/pastries, I won’t be back. My wife has a cake business so I appreciate good baking!
M. D.
Fabulous oasis of calm. Enjoyed a refreshing cup of tea and quiet contemplation.
C. M.
A lovely little dog-friendly place we frequented before lockdown 2.0 happened. Service was always great, coffee tasted good and their savoury snacks were always really tasty! It used to be round the corner from us but we've since moved a bit further away but will still make the journey back for some custard tarts!
M. A.
Nice interior, great music and of course the most important good coffee and pastry.
E.
Lovely place. Very chill and has very tasty pastries.
J. A. V.
Great coffee, great cakes great atmosphere and great staff! One of the best places in town.
C. M.
My favourite coffee shop and study nook by far. The staff are simply amazing and welcoming. The coffee is smooth and always goes down with their delicious food. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. They even offer gluten free, veggie and vegan options! Brilliant all rounder.
M. A.
Amazing food and ambience but most importantly, amazing people. You will feel at home right away. An absolute must visit in Edinburgh.
R. A.
Best coffee around and delicious pastéis de nata!
D. R.
An excellent and original coffee shop with a wide range of savoury and sweet pastries plus some Brazilian specialities that reflect the background of the owners. As expected, tbe coffee is very good too. Very friendly staff and cheerful service. We'll be back!
S. P.
Lovely cafe, comfortable and welcoming, with great pastries and sandwiches.
D. f.
If u want to grab a cup of coffee and relax, just go there and enjoy
J. M. S.
Definitely a place to visit and become a regular! Fresh and delicious products, wonderful staff, beautiful deco and awesome atmosphere, all with the tropical touch of Portugal and Brazil. Go and say hi to the lovely owners while you try the famous custard tart with cinnamon and a real coffee!
S. C.
Best coffee that side of Edinburgh. Always a hearty welcome and the interior is beautiful especially the amazing tribal mural in the spacious back room. We'll worth a visit to sample the pastries too.
A. R.
Although the place is not too big, it's bigger on the inside (c;) and it has a very modern yet cozy atmosphere. The price range is quite good and affordable with great taste and big selection of drinks and quick lunch on the menu. Besides, their hot chocolate it's made from melted chocolate and it's smoothy and frothy.
S. L.
I had this written off as a generic 'trendy coffee' place. Couldn't be further from the truth. Half Brazilian, half Portuguese, all quality. Great homemade cakes and savoury food, super friendly staff, great coffee. The area at the back is expansive and very well decorated. Excellent option in the tollcross.
T. H.
Tucking into delicious pastries and fantastic coffee in this really funky Portuguese/Brazilian cafe - we will definitely come again
C. K.
Best coffee in Edinburgh, excellent food and wonderful, friendly attentive staff. Authentic Portuguese pasties and a smooth strong coffee bean. Would advise anyone who likes good, well made coffee to try here.
M. A.
Best nespresso and custard tart in town.
F. M.
I love this place! It's such a lovely atmosphere, the coffee is incredible and both hosts are always amazing! Must try!
M. D.
Best coffee shop in edinburgh , the staff is really lovely and the place is simply amazing
V. M.
It is a Portuguese-Brazilian café, with a fantastic location, in a pleasant and relaxed part of Edinburgh. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and the owner "Andreia" always has a history that makes the visit unique and most enjoyable.
The gastronomic experience; 5 stars.
Make a visit and taste one of the specialties of the house, handmade at the moment; The "esfirras" and the quiches, are really good, but the "brigadeiros" are not behind.
Roast coffee beans imported directly from an artisan roasting in Lisbon is surely one of the best in the city.
The variety of products of the offer is considerable, the quality of the same is very good; A really "gourmet" space, which always leaves us the will to return.
To finish, the decoration of the space is so welcoming that makes us feel like in our house.
l. s.
Wonderfully warm welcome, beautiful art work , great coffee and one of the most amazing selection of cakes, pastries and savouries iv seen in ages.
Can't wait to go back. Thanks guys
J. S.
Great people run this place, a Brazilian friends. The coffee was excellent. Didn’t try the cakes as was going out for lunch but will next time.
S.
Go for the cakes and espresso. Mainly the cakes. For those who have been bought up on "normal" cakes like chocolate or red velvet , you're in for a treat. Try the egg based cakes. I suggest espresso vs milk based coffee.
A. B.
First of all, what an amazing warm welcoming staff, makes you wanna come back there tomorrow, even if you live the opposite site of the city. Second, during your nice , relaxing time with the tastiest and proper coffe, you can spend it on learning something new about different part of the world, like Brasil or just have a chat with the owner and he will tell you everything about it. Not to mention the pastel de nata, OMG!!! They are melting in your mounth. I will be there soon to try the other cakes( ive tried the halzenut caramel one, another good quality cake) and very promising homemade brazilian cheese bread, together with the everyday different soup. Nice!!! Must seen, Colony Gourmet, mniam.....
M. B.
Consistently one of the best wee places for coffee cake e pasteis de nata em Edimburgo!
The flat white is never less than perfeito
T. B.
One of the best coffee spots in Edinburgh. Whilst the shop is small, the pastries and coffee are great. Coffee is perfect.
N. P. F.
Since it has been opened nearly a year ago, I am a loyal and regular customer. Friendly and dedicated staff, cosy place and lovely cuisine from Portugal and Brasil- pastel de nata delicious, brigadeiros, savoury pastries...Very worthy a visit!
