Reviews of Thistle Cafe

Few days ago, I visited this cafe. In many years, although I recognized this, I didn’t have a chance to visit there. All staffs were very friendly. Cafe and tea and scone were good. I love this kinds of wee cafe. Looking forward to visiting again. Thank you!

Very little place, kind of hard to find. The service was very quick. We had our food about five minutes after we ordered. I’m not an expert in Scottish food, but both my wife and I thought it was great. We ordered the Scottish breakfast and the English breakfast.

Lovely little cafe and even nicer staff/owners. Had a couple breakfasts here and it was very pleasant. No frills but good food and a warm atmosphere.

Loved this quaint little café. I had the full Scottish breakfast for £11.00 and it was delicious but basic. Some of the items are overpriced, for example £3.00 for an extra rasher of bacon.
The toilet is unisex and there is no lock on the door so you need to ask a friend to keep watch!

Super cute little cafe tucked away from the road near the castle. A great spot to get something quick, easy and cheap. I got the scones and I could have eaten four of them - they were so good! The guy and lady running the kitchen are very friendly and the food is served fresh, hot and fast.

This is a lovely wee cafe friendly staff I can highly recommend a breakfast here

Would you like to have a nice breakfast in Edinburgh Old Town in a lovely terrace enjoying the calm of a non traffic square? So turn the corner from Lawnmarket Road to James Court and you will find THE THISTLE STOP CAFE. Lovely FAMILY RUN BUSINESS in Edinburgh OldTown where mum & sons will cook for you a tasty Full Scottish Breakfast & a warm coffee full of energy. EH1 2PB, in front of Parliament Square, 5 min walking from the entrance of the Castle! :)

A hidden gem of a place, tucked away at the top of the Royal Mile. Extremely welcoming and excellent service. We enjoyed some delicious toasties and paninis as we ate outside in a secluded courtyard. Well worth a stop for breakfast, brunch or lunch 🤗

5 starts based on value. If you're looking for expensive upmarket eggs hollandaise or smashed avo, this probably isn't it. But great value breakfast, honest and simple menu. reasonably priced.

Really enjoyed our lunch here today. Our only criticism is that the seating isn't too comfortable and the price is a little on the high side. We both really enjoyed our meals though. My partner had the steak pie with potatoes and peas and I had scotch pie with haggis and beans.. Both were very yummy.

Staff was very friendly and handsome. Food was good, had the scotch pie and a latte. I would eat here again. Price is good fairly cheap

Absolutely lovely little cafe hidden down a close/alleyway.

We happened to stumble upon this little place while looking for food, and I'm sure glad we did! I have never had haggis before and decided to give it a try with their haggis and beans nachos. And guess what?? I found out I love haggis, and these nachos were absolutely delicious. This was a cute little place with good prices and great food. I'm already planning another trip to Edinburgh and plan to make this place one of my stops.

The staff were super friendly and lovely, the food arrived quickly and was really good and the location is in a beautiful courtyard, great prices as well, the perfect place for lunch!

No decaffeinated tea options, waiting staff give the impression of being more interested in chatting amongst themselves however the food is very good, breakfast hotplate cooked so not greasy/fatty good portion at city prices. Tucked away in a basement setting this is a great little find so for me it was a 4 not a 5 as they had carrot cake on display but not for sale at the time as it was still frozen, no decaf tea & had to ask for sugar as table bowl was empty, the fix was to remove from another table rarther than replenish the bowl from store.
Sort these issue's out and maybe a better dress code for the staff wouldn't go a miss but it is what it is........ a cafe!

Staff welcoming and friendly but bacon roll wasn't good, just chucked together and roll tasted odd, slightly fermented. Coffee wasn't that warm and not a good taste to it either.

Best breakfast we ever had, very attentive staff. Made us feel very welcome. Must eat in whole of Edinburgh!
