Reviews of Urban Angel
K. L.
Great food. The brioche french toast was one of the best we ever had, thanks to the soft and fluffy texture of the brioche toast, with the good accompaniment choices of butterscotch sauce and yogurt. The baked eggs were really good as well - just the portion was not big enough for a hungry man. The coffee were fine, not the best in town though. Booking is essential here.

I was lucky to have a reservation even if I had lunch on my own. Urban Angel was a lovely discovery and felt very cozy, with simple but thought interior and nice music in the background. The soup of the day with wild garlic was delicious unfortunately they didn’t have wheat free bread. The staff is friendly and cheerful!

So excited to find a place that does brunch past 2 PM. It was my first day in Scotland and I’m glad that this was my first meal. From the moment that I walked and everyone was friendly there. Shan showed me to my table and help me select what I was planning to eat. While I probably would’ve ordered the eggs Benedict (which is apparently a chef specialty her hollandaise sauce is supposedly to die for) I opted for the egg bake for something different and a side of their mushrooms, paired with a freshly squeezed orange juice Mimosa. After a brief pause,Oscar helped me choose a small bit of carrot cake along with a scoop of salted caramel ice cream for desserts. I finished my time at the café with tea of course. All in all a delight experience and I would certainly recommend anyone visit during a stay in Edinburgh. I may return before I leave.

Yummy food, great coffee, friendly and attentive staff! Had a lovely brunch here today 😋 Space for my pram & highchair provided. Will definitely be back!

The food was great (we got the french toast and fresh juice and recommend it highly), but I was most impressed by the professionalism and kindness of the staff. The restaurant was extreme busy when we got there on a Saturday afternoon and even in the face of a small handful of inpatient and entitled unmasked customers they were cordial and quick without sacrificing safety or service. They do espresso based drinks using Williams & Johnson Coffee a small local rostery a have an assortment of delicious looking pastries that will be on my list next time I visit.

This is such a hidden gem , we will come here every time we visit Edinburgh now!
The service is so friendly and welcoming, it has a lovely quaint atmosphere. But the standard of the food !!!! WOW !
We had lunch on a Sunday for my birthday and it was a real highlight ! Ive never had a Halloumi burger like it! My husbands Blue cheese and peach salad was beautiful and the chips , the best we've had !!
E. L.
Lovely staff and lovely food, not your average price for breakfast but its NOT your average breakfast so your paying for food and coffee made with love ☺️❤️ very yummy will come again
J. Y.
Wow very spacious restaurant once you enter- there is more seating to the back! Nice resto for a bit of healthier eating. Ordered the green juice, acai bowl, side of english muffin with sausage and the mushroom toast. Taste wise it was ok, the mushroom toast was too salty, the english muffin needed some butter on the side, the acai bowl was standard, and the green juice was healthy (pleasant but not yum!). Go here for some healthy eating!

Great brunch place! Do not get put off by the lack of availability on open table - they have 4 additional tables in the garden :) so you may get a table!
Food was delicious and service was really friendly. We liked it :) we had good brunch food and mimosas (with freshly squeezed orange juice:)
The only thing - portions are quite small. So probably order more than you usually do.
J. F.
We really enjoyed Urban Angel. The food was delicious, good size portions, and both meals were just what you want on a winter morning. My wife had the chorizo benny with Chipotle hollandaise and I had the roast potato haggis hash. Both were lovely. Would highly recommend here for brunch!
M. H.
Even though it was extremely busy with the foot traffic, the service was attentive and the food came out quickly.
Poached eggs were perfect and the coffee bean was lovely.
Would definitely recommend if you want to start the day with a spot to eat and a cuppa
L. L.
One of the best breakfasts we have had; the almond croissant is to die for. Service was just lovely even though a little slow (Saturday morning and really busy). Cannot recommend enough!
T. D.
Truly wonderful brunch location. Perfect prosecco. The husband had delicate poached eggs with runny yolks and organic bacon. I had the pulled pork sandwich with a lovely brioche bun and PERFECT chips.
We will be back again soon.

Probably the best breakfast my partner and I had in Scotland. We stopped in without a booking. While it was jam packed inside, there was only outside seating available and we were happy with that! My partner has a gluten allergy and they were so accommodating. (Gluten-free tiger loaf!? Yes.) Our waitress Sian was so bubbly and professional - GREAT service despite being outside and not on the main floor. I'd hire her for my venue in a heartbeat. We were never not looked after. I had the hummus toast and I'm dying to recreate the recipe. My partner had the cheesy beans on toast and cleaned the plate. Every other minute people were coming inside without a booking and coming back out as they didn't have the space (and there are plenty of tables) - a true testament to the quality of food and service here. Wouldn't hesitate to go back!
L. L.
Hidden gem. Lovely desserts and excellent service despite the brisk business. They even have an hourglass timer to let you know when the tea is done brewing. The place is also bigger than it looks with more seating at the back.
J.
Delicious lunch which my photo does not do justice. Had a melt-in-the-mouth mushroom, gruyere cheese & pesto toastie, and a mix of their homemade salads (beetroot, goats cheese, celeriac, olives, tzatziki). Unfortunately no inside table available which was frustrating as several were unused but they were holding them on the basis of customers returning
M. T.
A favourite place from a previous visit to Edinburgh. Went twice on this trip and was no less impressed this time around. The food and drinks were delicious and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Looking forward to next time!
L. M.
First visit to Urban Angel and will definitely be back. I love the aesthetic of the place, very modern yet rustic and homely all at once. The staff were more than helpful and very kind. Coffee and food is absolutely delicious and presented well! Booking again soon
D. A.
Great service! Every thing arrived earlier that expected. Despite being the only people sitting outside while it's crowded inside، the staff kept checking on us frequently.
I liked the egg royale with spicy hollandise sauce.
N. N.
Lovely place, really good, fresh and good quality of the food.
Big portions as well :) Friendly staff.
They could only work on furnitures there- this is not the most comfortable, tables are shaking a little bit and chairs are “quite small” and missing cushions- only my suggestion.
The rest is lovely that’s why I’m giving 5 starts!
t. n.
Eggs perfectly poached, flavoursome eggs Benedict. Halloumi burger tasted great & home made fries was perfect. Carrot cake was flavoursome but a little on the dry side.
Friendly service :)
L. X.
The staffs are really friendly. The smoothie and French toast were delicious. Do suggest make an appointment prior arriving.
K. P.
Fab brunch place! Staff were really welcoming and helpful! There was a wait for a table but it was worth it. Food was really good and great coffee
S. M.
Lovely breakfast. We had the shakshuka and the spiced cornbread and each had a smoothie and coffee and everything was tasty. Cute place, would be great for any get together or to take your parents out if they’re in town.
O. M.
I can see why this is always in the top brunch spots in Edinburgh! Delicious food, amazing fresh juices and a very decent Bloody Mary! I’d recommend pre booking a table as the queues were crazy on a Saturday afternoon, but well worth the wait! The hummus on toast was excellent! Thank you!
S.
Very tasty breakfast option in the heart of Edinburgh close to George Street. We had French Toasts made out of Brioche - they were fantastic. Make sure you reserve your table ahead of time as it can get very busy especially on weekends. Staff is extremely friendly. Great place to kick off your day.
C. C.
Pretty good brunch!
The place is so popular, you’ll need a booking and they don’t do takeaway. Lucky we had a booking.
Nice coffee, fresh orange juice and there was tap water available..the bottle had just been washed and was warm but what can be done.
My partner loved her eggs Benedict, although there was a strongish taste of vinegar. You’d expect a little bit with the cooking process but was a little heavy.
I got sourdough with scrambled eggs, bacon and mushroom. Sourdough and eggs was great. Mushroom looked like it was past it’s best..maybe they are reheated to order or hotheld. Streaky bacon was good but a little chewy..maybe sat in a heat source too long. But hey it was seriously busy!! Butter was also rock hard from living in the fridge, I’d say use individual portions and leave them somewhere room temperature but not too hot. But it ain’t my kitchen lol
Staff cool and pleasant and a good brunch.
Maybe 4.5 stars but will give benefit of doubt and give 5. Thank you urban angel
H. V.
A great spot for late lunch, so happy we came here on our first day 😀. Really good all day brekkie options, freshly squeezed juices, staff are really helpful and friendly and next time I am going for that brioche French toast! Delicius!
D. S.
Fantastic place- a must go to!
Staff were super friendly and all including kitchen staff were very accommodating with my allergy to make sure I didn't miss out. I even heard one of the staff going out of their way giving travel recommendations to a family of where to visit which they appreciated. I was lucky to squeeze in without a booking so would definitely recommend a reservation. Thank you Sian and colleagues! Overall a top place!
W. W. (.
If you looking for good and healthy food this place is for you and people's there so nice and polite . I will back thank you
S. C.
Great brunch spot, we didn’t have a booking and it was very busy on a Saturday morning, but the staff was accommodating and super helpful. Foods good!
I. B.
Delicious, well-priced food - lots of options for coeliacs and really good gluten free bread!
Service was really quick and staff were very friendly.
Definitely worth a visit!
j.
Really nice and welcoming. There were no tables except outside and unlike some places where they forget you the staff were very attentive.
Large menu selection - we had breakfast. Very filling. Would definitely go back. Thank you.
R. B.
Amazing, fresh food served by friendly and helpful staff. I had the Sunshine smoothie and it was incredible.
e. p.
So so so scrummy! The menu is really varied, original and caters to everyone i.e vegan, veggie, intolerances. Really cute venue, really lovely staff all round. Best gluten free bread I've ever tried. I'd highly recommend a visit, definitely worth the hype.
A. A.
One of my favorite breakfast and brunch spots in Edinburgh.
S. B.
I went there twice for my breakfast during my stay in Edinburgh. And both times had delicious food! Prices and staff are very friendly :)
N. S.
What a treat. Lovely spot, amazing coffee, very friendly staff, great service. Try their pastries! I’ll be back.
G. N.
We came for brunch on a wet miserable Tuesday and they were very busy. We had a coffee and waited for our table, no regrets as it was worth the wait. Would advise booking ahead. I had the avocado on toast which was really delicious - slightly different to usual avocados on toast which was great, with veggie haggis - also really great. My partner made up his own breakfast of sides and loved it. Delicious food and a great brunch vibe.
E.
Beautiful atmosphere with extremely friendly staff. I felt very comfortable sitting at a cosy table by myself and studying whilst eating my salad and chips. The vegan millionaire shortbread was lovely also. I have been here a few times with friends & family but never by myself. I didn't feel silly eating by myself. The staff made sure I got what I needed and more. I came at midday on a weekday as it's usually too busy to get a seat. It was v quiet which was nice.
Thanks very much :)
S. W.
Clean, bright and welcoming. Friendly staff. Strict covid adherence. Great menu choice. The food was delicious and served quickly. Big range of additional “add on’s” for each main. Smoothie menu is well worth perusing! Highly recommended and we will definitely return
N. T.
Adorable place, great food, very friendly staff, relaxing environment. Went there for breakfast with a friend, we liked so much that decided to come back on the next day for lunch! I truly recommend the avo-toast! (pictures are not the best on the planet, but at least gives an idea of the yummyness). Price is v fair and clean (full of COVID recommendations in place)
R. K.
Just can takeaway without booking. 4/5 taste for iced latte.
C. W.
Lovely environment for breakfast and to be fair the egg dishes looked great. I, however, ordered a sausage muffin with halloumi and the dish was a little embarrassing. Genuinely could have made it myself for about £2 and not the £9 I was charged. And the portion was gone in literally two mouthfuls.
L. R. F.
The name says it all: this really is heaven in the city! Delicious food, great veggie options and fantastic service in a super cute atmosphere. Looking forward to coming back!
N.
When you walk in you think, "That's it?!" And then they take to the much bigger dinning room space. The space has character and very inviting. Everything was fresh and delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive too. My French toast was out of this world, but if you aren't into sweet breakfast don't order it. My husband enjoyed his eggs and toast with avocado, tomato and spinach. Very different type of breakfast for us but we enjoyed it.
B. U.
When you first walk in, the entry area looks rather small with just a couple tables, but when you're seated you're taken to an open corridor that leads to two much larger rooms that can fit all their customers. The staff was very pleasant and helpful and it was nice to be served a jug of water and glasses when we first arrived without specifically having to ask for it. The rooms were well lit and had a nice, cozy atmosphere to them too. There are bathrooms available for use too (two of them, both unisex) which were well stocked with toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
The food was really delicious too. We tried their latte, the special smoothie of the day (banana, mango, and pineapple YUM), the acai smoothie bowl, and the avocado on toast. All of it was very tasty. The only downside is that the food is a bit on the pricier side, but everything seems rather expensive in Edinburgh, so it's not easy getting around that. I would definitely return though!
C. H.
Cute, small cafe for brunch. I got the baked eggs with chorizo, plus a side of haggis from Findlays of Portobello, and they were absolutely delicious and the perfect portion size as well. Their batch brew coffee is also super flavorful. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh!
L. M.
Great service and food! I got a hot chocolate with a sausage sandwich and my boyfriend got pancakes with strawberries, maple syrup and a side of bacon! We were also served a glass of water before we got our ordered beverages and food. The hot chocolate was so fancy and it had a great rich chocolate taste. It was the perfect temperature to drink at so didn't have to wait for it to cool down a bit like I usually do with most hot chocolates! I look forward to return one day.
P. B.
Wonderfull breakfast and very nice staff
P. M.
We went here for brunch and when we arrived there was a que outside of the door. These were intially promising signs there was a wait of 40 minutes for our table but we got the table. There was however quite a wait for the food once we did order. Drinks were pleasant with the coffee being served at the perfect temperature. The food however was mediocre with the avocado on toast very plain and the bacon being overcooked. In addition for the portion size and what we paid and it was definitely over priced.
C. A.
Had gluten free toast with scrambled eggs and the largest serving of bacon I have ever had! All tasted great. Was also informed pancakes could be done gluten free. Generally seemed like they could accommodate most dishes, and they had some gluten free cake options (brownie and chocolate coconut cake) which I didn't try. Very busy though, be here when it opens if you haven't booked.
P. F.
A great find visiting Edinburgh. Excellent food with tasty combinations. Very helpful , friendly and happy staff. Will return on our visits to Edinburgh.
R. B.
Excellent food. Smoothies were amazing too. I have celiac and didn’t have a problem finding something to eat! The gluten free french toast was amazing! I also loved the breakfast smoothie. The wait was more than an hour, but we were able to sit immediately at the bar, which worked perfectly.
S. A.
Very nice and cosy place with lots of options for breakfast/brunch. The staff is very nice and the food as well. The only thing that made me give 4 stars was the fact that I was charged extra for a little side of maple syrup after removing one of the items from my dish because it wasn’t suitable for my dairy free diet. Apart from that, it was a very nice and a place I would recommend to my friends.
H. S.
French toast with bacon and maple syrup? Get it in my mouth. Lovely staff, quirky restaurant layout, great coffee and even better food. Partner had avocado and eggs on toast with chilli flakes giving a nice little kick to it. Bosh, breakfast smashed - Edinburgh here we come 👍
H. S.
Lovely place for brunch - service and food both great. Would recommend booking in advance - we had a table booked for 11, but walk ins had to wait 45-60 mins.
J. Q.
Didn't wait long for food, portion sizes were excellent and the staff were extremely friendly.
Certainly kept us full and would recommend the eggs Benedict with bacon (they don't skimp on bacon slices). Avacado on toast was also delightful.
Overall would recommend and will return. It's not a cheap breakfast like Wetherspoon's round the corner, but it's well worth the extra expense.
A. M. E.
Great Brunch. The vegetarian haggis and the eggs benedict were top notch. Lots of lovely vegetarian options and great cakes and buns! Good service in a pleasant dining area.
C. M.
Yummy brunch today!! Awesome coffee too!
Called them up as I was going to be late for my reservation and they were fine with adjusting my time slot!
Would recommend!
S.
Nice place! Seems like very small place but they’ve tables inside... kindly waitresses and good food. I only had full breakfast, haggis and breakfast smoothie, it cost me 16.50£
Z. M. S.
Thought portions were maybe a bit lacking for the price. Tried the Chorizo and Mushroom. Had a nicely poached egg. Really like the Brioche French toast. Not that many selections for brunch, which may or may not be a good thing. Would come back to try the lunch menu and the interesting smoothies they have.
We arrived at 10 and had to wait for around 10 minutes. Saw that the crowd got larger after 11. Would advise going earlier if possible.
C. C.
Good brunch place, good eggs and smoothies, bit on the spenny side but does the job
J. P.
Superb place for breakfast! Definitely recommend for anyone visiting the city! The all breakfast hash was just excellent 😋 lovely staff, lovely atmosphere, lovely experience!
S. S.
Wonderful place! Food amazing, great staff. I passed by to have a table, they were so busy at that moment. Made a reservation and was fantastic. I ordered coffee with oat milk (just a preference) and they serve a regular one. I didn't say anything even if I noticed, they were so busy and I did enjoy it so much anyway (very good coffee, great barista). Waitress came back to me to apologize cause coffee was not oat, making sure I wasn't vegan or anything. And I did order another one cause as I said, was so good. They removed the first coffee from my bill. Thanks for that! 100% recommend
A. P.
Absolutely wonderful! We found this gem by accident whilst visiting family in Edinburgh last summer and were so glad we did! Everything was so tasty and fresh and the staff were lovely.
We had breakfast and lunch on different days and it was all very tasty. It's unsurprisingly busy so book ahead if you can or arrive prepared to wait a bit, it's 100% worth the wait though. Highly recommended!
G. F.
Overall a good place, the menu looked great! The cappuccino's were great. Let down by the Acai bowl, due to not much flavouring of the smoothie. Would not mind paying a little more for some more ingredients. Staff were attentive also and quick to check in.
n.
Just fantastic! The quality of the food is great and the atmosphere is lovely.
M. C. (.
The eggs Benedict with bacon was in-friggin-credible! The eggs were perfectly cooked, the hollandaise was so smooth and the bacon was crispy! I honestly couldn't have asked for more. Even the service was effecient!
A. R.
This place is a must-go for brunch/lunch. Hidden downstairs in a beautiful street in New Town, the food quality was 10/10 and the service incredible.
My boyfriend had the eggs benedict. Eggs and bacon cooked perfectly and the hollandaise was 👌🏼- not too sweet or rich, just bloody delicious. I had the avocado on toast which was so fresh tasting. Great sized portions and we left feeling very happy. Wish I took some photos!
Service was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble, even when my boyfriend got creative with the ingredients in his juice.
Would definitely go back and would recommend to anyone going to Edinburgh.
R. F.
What a quality place.
My partner and I had the most amazing eggs Benedict with black pudding.
The staff were super friendly and really helpful.
It wasn't cheap but worth every penny.
Highly recommended and will be back.
Y. Z.
My host strongly recommends the brunch here. The atmosphere is good but I think the food is too salty for us. The muffin in egg Benedict is fluffy but I don't like the mayo.
S. B.
Delicious food - we opted for the eggs benedict and English muffin with bacon - tasty. Really good flat white coffee. All delivered with incredible customer service - accommodating and genuine. Loved it.
L. S.
The sitting area in the back of the restaurant is very cozy and nice. The nutty brownie tastes amazing. I need to eat gluten free and the options here are very good. I highly recommend this place :)
E. J.
Great breakfast here, the service was super quick and the French toast was amazing!
D. D.
Great little cafe with nice breakfast and lunch options. It can get busy on the weekends, but is still worth a visit. Very friendly staff, delicious food, and good quality coffee.
P. C.
This home made baked bean dish with goats cheese, garlic and aubergine is the best breakfast out I've eaten for ages. What a mouth watering menu, I could eat here for a week.
J. K. (.
Lovely food, great recommendations from the staff too! Perfect breakfast to start the day.
l. b.
Lovely place for breakfast and coffee. The coffee has a rich smooth bitterness, service is prompt and friendly, and the eggs, mushrooms and spinach are excellent quality and perfectly cooked.
M. N.
Loved it! Staff were all very nice and the food was fantastic. Ordered the bacon Benedict with gluten free bread (bread was seriously amazing) and a side of avocado. Would definitely go again!
C. M.
As always, this place is great. The brunch is the highlight for me, as I struggle to see past the French toast.
A. K.
Amazing place for brunch. Poached eggs cooked to perfection, plenty of nice crispy bacon and the spinach is not soggy like most other places. Smoothies are very nice and try the ginger sour for a nice pick me up!
S. H.
yummy food but incredibly overpriced!!! almost £15 for eggs on toast (each add on was £2.50 per item, so one small portobello mushroom cost £2.50!!!! super misleading menu as seemed like it was £2.50 total for 3 add ons..)
french toast was good value for money w huge portions but the experience was tainted by the fact that we felt ripped off with that one meal.
redeemed by good service and yum coffee but not sure if we will return as customers.. :(
J. B.
Fantastic service. Our eggs were a bit overcooked but edible and we certainly weren't going to say anything as the rest of the meal and service was great. Our waitress saw that the eggs were overcooked, apologised profusely, and knocked one of our coffees off the bill. This kind of proactive customer service is what makes people want to come back.
T. M.
Probably my favorite meal during my stay in Edinburgh. I have a dairy allergy and the staff was very helpful in accommodating me. I had one of the smoothie bowls and it filled me up with enough energy to walk throughout Edinburgh for most of the day. Their food is fantastic and the atmosphere is just adorable.
D.
We found this place very expensive. £4.65 for sour orange juice that had a bug in it, an extra £3 to add bacon to a meal, and it was just too busy to enjoy. Very unfortunate because if these things weren't an issue, it would have been a nice place to visit...
E. R.
I remember when these guys used to be just off Broughton Street. They were amazing then, and amazing now! The ideal place for brunch - definitely get Eggs Benedict ;) - or a couple of coffees with a friend.
M. S.
The eggs benedict here was amazing!! The bacon was extra crispy. It was a big portion too, we couldn't finish it all. The café itself was quite busy and we were lucky to get a seat. The drinks are expensive but they serve free water. Would love to come back!
P. H.
Great place for a Breakfast.
There more space then it seems form the outside. The interior has a great style.
The food and coffee is really good.
S. S. L. Q.
Good service, food was good although very small portions which does not match the price well.
A.
The best brunch in Edinburgh. Friendly staff, nice service, great coffee and wonderful cuisine!!! Love it 😋😋😍
L. J.
The best Eggs Benedict I have ever had. So glad we booked as there were very busy. Customer service was excellent too.
E. B.
Very nice, cozy, informal place. The rooms retains some characteristic features like an old (and beautiful) stove. Efficient service. Great cuisine with lots of alternatives. Absolutely to try for a brunch!
O. F.
Really really good brunch find! Had the eggs and my daughter had the pancakes and both were delicious. The real star of the meal though was the coffee, which was incredible. The space is warm, welcoming and the staff are the same way! Would 1000% recommend!
S.
Great food, delightful staff and great customer service all round. Would visit again!
Plenty of gluten free options available for coeliac diners.
C. P.
The most amazing place, cheeky little cafe tucked away. Brilliant breakfast options and great for gluten free and their awareness. Went here a couple of times during our trip, staff very friendly and place very welcoming. Would love to go back.
C. S.
Super friendly and welcoming staff!
Rich and tasty breakfast and excellent coffee
Highly recommend!
S. M.
Great atmosphere and delicious breakfast food. Menu can be easily changed for vegans too and they have non-dairy milk too. A lovely place!
W. (.
I liked the place very cosy, warm, I took scrambled eggs which was little off for my tasting, the poached eggs was fantastic.
Recommended for breakfast brunch or just tea.
D. H.
Even with its simple menu I found it difficult to chose as everything looked delicious. I settled on baked eggs, a rice and bean salad followed by ice-cream cookie sandwich. All were delicious. Service was quick, staff were excellent. We are already talking about a return visit xx
T. M.
Absolutely love the food here. The staff were very friendly, and service was great. I had the eggs royale - would highly recommend.
B. S.
Lovely food, bit pricey, very nice tea
S. D.
Recently had breakfast here through recommendations and I can further recommend it to others! The breakfast menu is really good and the layout is deceptively large inside the restaurant, service is brilliant and waiting for a table doesn't take too long even on a rugby day :)
M. M.
Really great breakfast! Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
K. T.
Seating nonexistent. Food was tasty though portions were small. Interior was noisy and somewhat awkward; especially if you're not familiar with the venue. Staff looked harried but were pleasant. We got a take away salad selection because it would have been at least 30 minutes for the kitchen to make us something.
C. M.
Nice cafe with good meal options. I recommend booking a table as it gets busy.
N. H.
A fantastic spot for breakfast. The food selection is great, and there are lots of really tasty options available. Would also recommend the smoothies on offer, and the staff are lovely
H. W.
Great place, staff were so nice !! Food was amazing!! Definitely recommend.
b. r.
Good vegetarian choices and some of the best chips and icecream I ever had
s. t.
Costlier than Costa Coffee but great service with adequate floor spacing and big list of food items.
A. G.
Lovely all day brunch cafe.
Not pictured, the hazelnut toffee was 👌🏼
J.
I ordered brioche french toast with strawberries , lime yoghurt, strawberry and basil purée and toasted coconut. To my surprise, the french toast went well with the combination of basil purée, toasted coconut and lime yoghurt which helped to reduce the sweetness and overall, the flavour was well-balanced. I also ordered a cup of cappuccino which was the best coffee I had tried so far in Edinburgh. Good coffee flavour and the milk steamed was just right. I will definitely visit Urban Angel again!
J. C. V.
Great food, good prices, really nice ambiance, kind staff.
#1 restaurant recommendation in Edinburgh if anyone ever asks.
E. C.
Had a delicious brunch here, the food is exceptional. Service was okay although our waitress seemed very flustered. Would happily eat here again.
C. N.
Had to book a table for 10.00 am was worth the wait very friendly staff, food was excellent, definitely recommend it.
S. S.
What a find!!! The food is out of this world and the service was professional, yet super friendly. You have to order the banoffee pancakes; they're light, fluffy, not too thick, with the perfect blend of sweetness from the butterscotch sauce, with a great crunch from the hazelnut crumble and lightness from the yoghurt. Also, order a side of bacon and sausage and you'll have the perfect sweet-savoury combination for an outstanding breakfast to set you up for the day!
M. R.
Lovely staff, great batch brew filter coffee, fantastic smoothies and delicious food! Smoked haddock benedict was excellent and the chips are a delight! Will be back for sure!
T. R.
Used Foursquare to find this and it was voted as the top place to go to Edinburgh for breakfast. I can see why.

What a wee gem of place! Stopped for breakfast this morning & glad we did. Very attentive customer service and wee extras (loved the timer with my tea for brew time!) Would highly recommend and definitely come back. Thank you again guys!
J. S.
Wonderful staff, atmosphere and food! Good for allergens and reasonable prices
A. L.
Best place for breakfast in Edinburgh! Lovely atmosphere, tasty food, nice staff and good location. Highly recommended!
G. H.
Really nice spot for brunch, good coffee and the eggs Benedict is a sound choice and comes with a good hunk of bacon, though could do with a touch more hollandaise.
K. h.
This was one of my most enjoyable breakfasts my wife and I have ever had.
K. H.
Fabulous breakfast menu from avo toast to pancakes to eggs Benny everything was wonderfully fresh and delicious. They have a great smoothie selection including açai smoothie bowls which can be hard to find in Edinburgh. Their baked goods selection is also fab. Top it all off with a great coffee and there's not much more to ask for. I'm definitely keen to go back to try the lunch menu (including cocktails) as well!
S.
Very nice and cozy interior, the staff is very friendly too. The food is good, nice breakfast and smoothies.
D. W.
Very trendy eaterie, great food. We were lucky to get a lunchtime seat though
I. C.
Really loved the food, girls who served us were very polite and so helpful. Would definitely reccomend this cafe
H. W.
Nice coffee in the morning.. small but okayy. Good food too and good coffee too.. nice place
J. L.
Lovely brunch, love their baked eggs/ shakshuka - but the portion for the toast could be 2 slices instead of one... add-on is a bit pricey (around £2.5 for one more slice of toast). Good selection of smoothie, love the raw chocolate one with dates! Could be very busy over the weekend with wait time over 30mins, so come on weekdays if you can!
s. w.
Met up with friends for coffee and a good blether, service was good, friendly staff and didn't feel rushed, will go again
P. S.
Wonderful breakfast, good gluten free and vegan options. Our waitress Alice was very helpful and friendly
R. B.
Lovely place for breakfast with a good choice on the menu with some customisable options which is great for a fussy pants like me. They also have a good range of items for vegetarian and vegan diners
K. B.
Lovely service what highlights your day with great, fresh food, porridge, pancakes with a selection of toppings. Great option for all including vegetarians, vegans or just people who likes a bit of heathier food. Freshly made juices and smoothies with amazing flavours.
M. F.
One of the best places I've tried in Edinburgh (been there three times), delicious food especially for brunch.
s. e.
A beautiful space powered by lovely staff, where you get deliciously well made food.
I had eggs on toast and was surprised that bacon was an added cost, but when it arrived, I understood why - next to eggs was a small mountain of streaky bacon, some crispy, some soft, and it was scrumptious to have both consistencies contribute to the eggs and crunchy sourdough toast.
I was also offered the filter coffee, which was yummy, but not as strong as espresso-based drinks (which I had later and was exceptional). They also offer a selection of smoothies - a great addition to a healthy breakfast.
I cannot praise the staff enough - from a warm welcome through service and all the was to seeing me off. What a lovely bunch of people.
M. E.
Absolute amazing food! Loads of options, highly recommend
L. S.
Good breakfast, good menu, good staff.
We came by yesterday but it was a 35 minute wait for a table, which was too long for us. However the staff were friendly and pointed us in the direction of a few other nearby breakfast places, even though we weren't paying customers!
We came back today and only had to wait 5 or 10 minutes, which was fine.
The menu was good. There was no full english/scottish but there was lots of nice breakfast options, loads of healthy and vegetarian/vegan options for both drinks, smoothies and food.
I got the scrambled eggs on sourdough which was great. Portion sizes are good. I saw the avocado toast and also the bacon on other peoples plates and they looked real good.
Overall, good experience!
E. T.
Delicious food!!! Fresh and tasty. Highly recommend.
T. F. F.
Cosy little place, loved my flat white and almond croissant was delicious!
G.
A lovely place for breakfast.
I was disappointed there was no pour over option on the coffee menu. But the lady behind the till insisted that I try the filter coffee. She gave me a sample to try. It was delicious.
I ordered the baked eggs for breakfast and they were also delicious. I was surprised at how quickly my food arrived considering how busy it was.
It's clear why this place has a high rating. Good coffee, good food, lovely staff.
A. G.
Excellent quality and range of the breakfast selection, and decent portions. Not sure about other reviews mentioning service slowness or waits as all was fine for us (arriving around half 8). Good coffee too.
H. D.
Fantastic food and smoothies, friendly, attentive staff and a beautiful space (filled with original Scottish features). Highly recommended!
Z. S.
Amazing food and lovely staff!
F. L.
Great place for brunch. Loved it! It’s a small place from the outside but don’t be fooled! ... The place is full of character, right in the Center of the city with great people and food.
The smoothies are amazing and our brunch/breakfast was soooo tasty!
Will definitely come again... definitely recommend it.
M. B.
Great little place with reasonable prices for New Town. Highly recommend their smoothies and halloumi burger. Many variety for vegetarians too!
D. B.
Great service for a very busy place. Excellent gluten free range too.
K. W.
Went here because it was recommended for gluten free options. The gluten free bread was fresh! I had to ask twice if it was actually gluten free. I had the soup and bread and my partner had the eggs Benedict with bacon. We both really enjoyed our meals
E. P.
A nice place, staff friendly but slightly too hipster for its own good. Menu isnt that varied, with mostly breakfast/brunch items. Eggs Benedict was good, avocado toast had by others in group was good but not sure theres much else I'd choose.
N. R.
Amazing brunch! The avocado on toast was beautiful and we also shared a smoothie bowl - nice and thick just as they should be. Only giving 4 stars as they are still using plastic straws which is a surprise given how much chatter there has been in the media about single-use plastic and our environment. Food was fab though. Best brunch in Edinburgh by miles.
A. H.
Absolutely lovely food and nice and friendly staff!
B. D.
Great place for weekend brunch!
C. C.
Brilliant place for a healthy and tasty breakfast, coffee and snack. A few interesting vegetarian options. Super delicious cakes.
For breakfast make sure to arrive early, as it gets very busy really quickly.
Service is friendly and food served quickly.
K. J.
Nice atmosphere, lovely staff, great coffee. I haven't had a chance to try their food yet but I'll definitely be back there to try more thing from the offer! :)
N. M.
I visited Urban Angel with my family for a catch up. We sat in the backroom of the cafe which one of waitors informed me use to be an old bakery (still has original fittings). It was very cosy and atmospheric with candles sparingly dotted around the room. I was pleasantly surprised by all the portions of the food on our table, thought it was great value for money. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable on local ingredients and the various different filter coffees available. My wife has a celiac allergy but this did not limit her, which she was delighted about. We were just in luck as when we were leaving there seemed to be a little bit of a wait on for tables, but would highly recommend!!
W. K.
Nice buzzy feel with polite and attentive staff. The food was delicious too!
J. J.
Cosy spot for a sit down and some chamomile tea, very attentive staff.
K. G.
This is always my favourite place to take my family and friends when they visit. The space is very beautiful and clean, the waiters are always lovely, and the food is amazing. Great for breakfast and lunch. There was one time I called ahead to ask if my dog was allowed inside and the person I talked to on the phone was very welcoming and accommodating. When I arrived, there was a table all set up with a dog dish full of water on the floor. It was so thoughtful and kind of them to do and I will never forget it. Will always be coming back!
D. C.
Very kind staff and great breakfast!
T. K.
Staff seems to feel entitled and self absorbed. It is a very trendy space to eat at and probably to work at too, but not an excuse to be rude to customers.
Otherwise, food is really good and worth the higher than average price. Very accomodating to allergies and intolerances, items well described, and the coffee is AMAZING.
I would highly recommend this eatery, but just wish the staff (some not all) were providing the well rounded service expected from a restaurant.
A. P.
The coffee and the burgers were nice and tasty, and we got a kind and friendly service. ☺️
S. M.
Soooooo good. Had the Eggs Benedict with hot smoked trout and by far the best Eggs Benedict I've ever had. Lovely brunch place and amazing deal with the eat out to help out scheme.
S. B.
Managed to fit me in on a busy morning for breakfastwith no fuss. Food was excellent and service was quick and attentive. Turmeric milk smoothie was lovely. Definitely recommend a visit
L. S.
Love it here, go a lot for healthy breakfast, staff are always nice. Be warned it can get super busy, especially on weekends. Call to reserve a seat or you can put your name down and come back when I table is ready if you are a walk in. Highly recommended to eat and drink
c. d.
Just spent the weekend in Edinburgh with my wife as a birthday and anniversary treat away and we happened to find this lovely little place for breakfast on Saturday morning.
It became our go-to breakfast spot for the last 3 days!!
We arrived in at about 0930 Saturday morning and they were already full...which goes to show the amazing popularity of this little gem. Shannon was very apologetic nover the fact that they were already full but we were able to get a small table inside the door. She also explained that the kitchen was quite busy and there maybe a slight delay on food. But that being said it is definitely worth the wait.
The granola is wonderful and you get a very generous serving (a smaller serving would easily do well as a dessert anywhere) and the French toast with banana, hazelnut and chocolate sauce was divine!
The staff are all wonderful and very helpful. On Sunday we asked for a recommendation for somewhere for dinner and again Shannon was right on the money suggesting a middle eastern Mezze restaurant only a short walk away .
We both love Edinburgh and will definitely be back. And when we do Urban Angel will certainly be our breakfast port of call and we will have to get back to try their evening menu at some stage too .
Thanks guys!!
A. B.
This place is slightly on the expensive side but overall really lovely place. They have great food and drinks.
Selection of smoothies and fresh juices, they sell ginger shoots and green juice :)
Prices for smoothies/juices are around £5.
The products they use are good quality.
Atmosphere of the place is great too, there is a salad/cake bar at the front when you walk in and they have two rooms with tables on the backs.
Free WiFi.
Overall we are coming back there quite often mostly because of the quality of food and availability to customise the order, we are vegans and did not had a problem with finding something we could eat.
B. B.
The staff seemed nice but and the food was good but way over priced. Wife specifically said no dairy and ordered eggs. Her breakfast was served and her eggs were made with milk. When it was corrected her plate was returned missing some of the tomatoes. The filter coffee was average but again way too expensive. Arrive took 45 min for food to be served. Nice place but too expensive for what you get.
H. R.
Good service, delicious smoothies (especially the Orange). I can't complain about my eggs benedict either (only the salmon could be better as it was rubbery). However, my almond flat white tasted like cat's puke and the table was sticky. I would revisit to try more breakfast options and smoothies.
B. S.
Lovely flagstone cafe with a good variety of brunch options and some very hearty portions. Coffee, eggs, avocado on toast, bacon etc. A wonderful refuge from busy Princes street shopping madness and much less touristy. The cafe makes an effort to source local produce and the service was delightful too.
g. s.
As good as ever and I have been visiting for the last 10 yrs and its a firm festival fave. Delicious if small smoothies and yum sourdough and poachies with v.generous portion of bacon. Was stuffed! Great staff having to manage some tricky punters given the 40 min wait which was well worth it!
N. L.
Edinburgh has no shortage of interesting options for breakfast, but among the options I tried, Urban Angel stood out as the best. On entry, you may be startled by the no-frills counter. Fear not! Down a short flight of stairs are two gorgeous and airy sunlit rooms decorated with candles and subtle plants. I ordered a dish involving nut butter, dark rye, fruit, and yogurt. It was unique, filling without being heavy, and exceptional. I enjoyed the meal so much I returned the next day and has the berry and aniseseed french toast - which was heavy and just as amazing, once I brought myself to stop just enjoying its scent. I would encourage any breakfast diner near New Town to check out this wonderful cafe.
S. C.
Based on a recent lunch trip, I'd say 'it's okay' - but I wouldn't be rushing to reccommend it to others, mainly due to price. £5 for a panini/sandwich with no additions like salad/crisps is a bit steep. The salad I had for £6 a small bowl was tasty, although my sweet potato was a little underdone and crunchy! Seems like more of a brunch place, and the brunch options did look inviting so perhaps I'll return for that. Nice atmosphere and friendly service.
V. A.
Very friendly cafe, lovely brunch and lunch food and excellent flat whites! Will come back.
S. C.
I've been here twice now and though it might seem a little pricey the food is excellent and the service is good too. I love eggs and they do eggs really well here and the cakes are pretty special too. A lovely cosy spot to enjoy a spot of brunch or a piece of cake and a cup of tea or coffee. Always worth a visit.
G.
I had not tried it before and heard good things. Food was tasty and the eggs benedict is fab. Interior is nicely decorated and stylish but a bit cold.
Only 3 stars because of pricing, Food, French toast is 9 quid and Eggs Benedict was 8.50, I can forgive them as the quality is there. However a can of juice was £2.90, pretty shocking all drinks were £2.70 and up, 5 quid smoothies. Ouch.
Give it a shot if you are feeling flush.
L. L.
A cozy little place where either with companions or on my own, I've always found a welcoming little nook. The first time I came here, now a couple of years ago, I was recommended the eggs benedict by my friend. Never having had them before, I ordered them. And ever since that first time I've always ordered this dish I come here.
I usually fly into Edinburgh with an early morning flight, only to rush to Urban Angel straight away to feel utterly welcome in the city again. They also serve a decent cup of coffee, which I crave after flights and that I have unfortunately not always have had the luck of finding in the UK. This place can be crowded, meaning you'll have to wait for a bit to find a seat, and it is popular with families as well (and not all kids are as well behaved) but I've never had much problems with this. But if you're looking for a quiet lunch, this might be something you'd have to keep in mind.
T. W.
Very busy, even at 12 noon. Staff managed the situation well and soon found a small table for me and my friend. Food and drink excellent, service a little slow, but staff are friendly and obliging. Toilets clean and adequate, cubicles on the small side.
Urban Angel is a restaurant, rather than a café, and prices reflect that. You can book ahead, and there is a small where you can wait if you didn't book.
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
R. M. S.
Typical brunch place, food is very good. However, waiting list although the restaurant has empty tables. Not sure if this is their strategy. we had to wait for 30 min and when we got the table, 4 tables were empty. We finished eating and 2 tables are still empty.. maybe next time we should ask them to double check the availability of the tables before saying that it is fully booked.
N. A.
Ate here before and liked breakfast but thought it was a bit overpriced, went back again recently after a year and tried a lunch special and was disappointed with the food, tasteless sandwich which was accompanied by a strange and dry salad. The sandwich was char grilled but tasted like it was grilled over plastic and gasoline. The service was good and attentive. Cafe concentrates too much on what ingredients that they are using rather than cooking properly. Still quite overpriced. I wouldn't recommend going here, try cafe marlayne instead.
E. R.
The food here was lovely but the wait was ridiculously long: Almost 40 mins for a brunch order for two, with next to no apology offered. A complimentary coffee or something while we waited would probably have made this a non-issue. I would really recommend this as a policy since it seems, based on other reviews, that extensive delays are not uncommon.
A. K.
Awesome food and coffee, the waitresses are extremely polite and the space is very cute.
L. M.
We actually came here for a wedding brunch, which is obviously one of the best ideas ever. My eggs Benedict was delicious and the space was really beautiful and perfect for our occasion.
L. H.
Amazing food, really friendly staff and quick service, felt taken care of for sure!
S. F.
Great place for a lovely breakfast! The coffee was really nice and the food is organic. I had eggs benedict and it was delicious. Also the service is really good. Lots of people and all very friendly.
S. M.
Easily in the top 3 brunch places in Edinburgh. The raw chocolate smoothie is my favourite drink. The eggs benedict is a piece of art here (always get bacon with an add on of salmon). Their coffee roasts are also great. Recommend get here on time on the weekend and be prepared to wait.
O.
Seemingly an amazing fusion of homemade and quality gourmet. Staff are amazing too.
Don't even question it, just go.
L. R.
Wonderful and tasty local sourced produce makes up the dishes as this fab basement eatery, near George Street.
Brunch is rather fantastic here and the staff are always pleasant. Great little cosy eating areas and the sausages are divine.
A. W.
Staff were just lovely and food delicious. Beautiful premises. Can get very busy but rightly so.
F. M.
Very friendly staff. And accommodating! Cute cafe and lovely food! Definitely recommend!
D. J.
Incredible food, extremely tasty and good portion sizes. The service is friendly and attentive.
d. n.
Popped in for a light lunch...had the cauliflower cheese...good service...great food.
K. H.
On the positive side, it was nice to feel special, in this case due to the suspicion that I was the only man to have been here for days. The decor was pleasant, and there was a reasonable choice of teas.
Minor niggles might include the lack of any alternatives to sugar. The toilets are incredibly tiny and would be very hard to reach in a wheelchair (impossible unless some hidden alternative route exists) and impossible for anyone with mobility issues to use once there. Still, the 18th century builders might have an excuse for their lack of foresight!
J. R.
Great brunch and cozy place
M. P.
Fun informal place for lunch or brunch. Relaxed atmosphere. Eggs Benedict good but not the best around. A little more hollandaise, muffin more toasted and bacon less chewy. But I'm splitting hairs. I'll come back when I'm around here. I'll probably need to grow a beard though... 😂
P. H.
Nice place to visit cos of the good food but not the kind you'd go to if you can't wait because it seems they're perpetually busy. They had to turn so many ppl away and this was only 11+am.
Portions are reasonable. On the more expensive side. Two poached eggs on sourdough bread + smoked salmon and spinach + tea = 14.30£
N. C.
Very nice breakfast
g. d.
Wonderful brunch! Eggs benedict were excellent! My girlfriend had french toast with bacon and honey, marvellous! The smoothies were brilliant as well!! Nothing but praise for this nice spot!
B. H.
Visited yesterday for early breakfast. Staff is amazing, fast, friendly and very helpful. The food was awesome, their coffee is great quality. Very happy and recommend to anyone!
H. T.
Friendly service and good gluten free options. Gluten free bread was fab!
C. R.
I loved my French toast with bacon and maple syrup. There was a 15 minute wait fir a table, but we'll be back I'm sure. I think you should book a table if you can. Seem to be very coeliac friendly.
T. M.
Wow, what can I say. First time here but sure not last. This will be on my 'places to go to'q list everytime I'm in Edinburgh.
Nice wee place, cosy, informal, very lively and friendly. Good coffee, good food, big portions.
I ordered the Egg Benedict - best I had in years. Perfectly poached eggs, and the hollandaise sauce well balanced that it did not overpower the dish but complement it. Thanks guys for squeezing me in.
It's very very busy, make sure you allow yourself time to wait for a table. Unless you're lucky enough to get one as you walk in. Highly unlikely though.
6 out of 5 for me.
S. S.
Ist meal out this year, so lovely to be served tasty food by cheerful friendly staff.
Highly recommended
A. C.
Hidden gem well worth looking for. Super chilled atmosphere in comfy surroundings. Lovely cafe menu, all cooked fresh and with a sophisticated edge. Organic mostly. GF cake too. Very calming escape from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
J. J.
French toast was great but the eggs and toast were a little basic (tasty though)
T. F.
Cosy small place, Delicious breakfast smoothie and good coffee.
The french toast is good. But, Backed eggs dish was below expectation with small quantity compared to the price.
K. J. C.
This is a lovely place for brunch - WiFi is fast, service is friendly and the food is lovely
K. H.
Smartly decorated and bustling, this is one of my favourite spots for brunch. Eggs benedict is a particular stand out. Only downside for me is that the smoothies are very small considering the price you pay. Avoid those however and there's very little to complain about.
H. A.
I was so happy to find this little gem in Edinburgh! I was able to get the most delicious gluten free breakfast, that kept me going throughout the whole day! When I mext visit Edinburgh I will be back!
Y. C. C.
Authentic food and friendly staff! Avocado toast is a healthy and delicious choice, hot chocolate is rich but not too sweet - perfect! Can’t ask more in this lovely cafe.
A. E.
Excellent food. We went there for brunch, and everything that we tasted was fantastic. The personnel was polite and kind. I recommend this place to everyone who want to eat excellent food.
R. S.
This place is amazing!
A warm welcome from a very friendly, professional team.
Amazing food.
Not to be missed.
Thank you for slotting us in.
O.
Stumble upon this lovely cafe. I would recommend the afternoon tea option.
G. S.
Nice breakfast and brunch! Definitely recommend!
L. T.
Got a breakfast smoothie, the French toast and chocolate cake, all delicious.
My friends were also very satisfied with their meals (eggs benedicts, coffee and the special juice)
Definitely recommends for anyone living or visiting!
K. M.
The service is acceptable, though a bit uneven here. The food is yummy; process on pv beverages are pretty noteworthy. fare is above average. Staff is often a little distracted, and not non engaged ( missed orders, aspects of order not given the attention they may need). Good food overall.
N. J.
Very good food and drinks. The only negative was the loud annoying waitress.
A. N.
Lovely atmosphere and good eggs Benedict
C. S.
It's difficult to classify the food at Urbal Angel, other than 'good'; it subscribes to no particular style, genre or tradition, perhaps this is what British Food should be in the present day?
The space is delightful, the staff friendly and helpful. I've been in with a range of different people who are difficult to feed in a variety of ways and yet there's always been something tasty and filling to suit all palates, and while it's not supercheap, it's far from pricey.
On one memorable occasion, after a city centre trek to find some GF cake, we ended up here and had pieces of brownie so rich that we felt like we'd had a full meal. Total win.
J. C.
Great find, about 10 mins walk from the centre, we found this on our way to the Botanical Gardens. Coffee, from Leeds' own North Star Coffee Roasters, tasted great, the food was fresh & tasty & staff were attentive & friendly.
S. D.
Excellent, peaceful spot with friendly service and decent coffee. Surprising amount of space downstairs in what looks like a big old kitchen, with some tables outside. Nice decor — old stone and wood and ironwork.
a. m.
Great food and good gluten free options but quite pricy and extra charge for gluten free bread
s. b.
Quick and friendly service, great avocado and eggs on toast. The juices are super fresh. Overall an excellent place for breakfast.
C. S.
Took my friend for her birthday breakfast and my daughter, it was beautiful and the service was very good .
N. A.
Was pretty phenomenal food and brunch. The best brunch since we've moved to uk - even the patchy service couldn't deject from the overall experience. Breakfast smoothie is delic and the smoked arbouhhrie (sp?) was out of this world.
D. C.
This place is incredible. Amazing food, amazing staff and totally unique. I've been around and there aren't too many places like this. I wish I took pictures of the food because it was stunning!
A. D.
This is my new favorite place in Edinburgh ❤️ best coffee and also best Turmeric Latte ever!!!
Looking forward to come back
L. M.
Friendly service, good food and relaxed atmosphere!
J. F.
I had brunch at the urban angel on 15th November. It is a very popular place and we were happy to wait 25 minutes to be seated (as we were not in a rush). This wait and the popularity of the establishment built up a sense of anticipation which was not matched by the food. The food is ok, but in very small portions. Urban Angel is the epitome of style over substance.... It is a very stylish place. Very expensive, but decent value overall 😀
J. H.
The best place for breakfast in Edinburgh. Fresh ingredients with large portions, the Urban Angel has never disappointed.
Get there early as they dont take bookings and it gets very very busy.
F. M.
Try to reserve in advance. This nice place seems like an ancient tavern and the main room hosts a fireplace and an oven. Food is good (loved the eggs benedict) and the staff is nice
J. B.
Nice place to go for Sunday brunch, although the menu is quite pricey for what you get. It is usually really busy at the weekend so I would recommend getting down early to grab a table!
I. C.
Good food, friendly service, chilled tunes & well priced for what your get.
Would recommend this place especially the gluten free toast!!!!
What else do you need on a Sunday morning.
R. A.
Nice breakfast, friendly staff, and good vibe. A bit expensive but you’re paying for the chill atmosphere and the offering of tumeric lattes and the like. All in all would recommend.
T. C.
Really enjoyed lunch here today, delicious smoothies and coffee :)
K. R.
Nice food. Attentive staff.
L. C.
The open-faced sandwiches were delish, as was the coffee and cakes. Service was so-so; interactions were friendly but irregular. The soup was great!
N. O. L.
Love this place, staff very helpful and will give you guidelines of when to come back if they are busy. Beautiful menu and the smoothest coffee I have had in this lovely town.
H. M.
My top pick for a hungover Sunday brunch. It sure is not a cheap option but the brunch menu is extensive and offers up (relatively) healthy, hearty and filling fare. Polenta chips are a particular highlight and the eggs benedict is also fab. They serve great coffee and homestyle cakes. Fresh and delicious.
s. l.
It would be a 4star but it's been brought down a peg due the the price tag. You're no angel for being pricey UA! That aside, it is good food. We went to the Hanover café for a tapas of light bites one Sunday afternoon and it was all very tasty. Some even quite unusual, such as artichoke, kale and pinenut brushetta. My favourite was the creamed smoke salmon with horseradish and herb crostini. After sharing 4 'little plates' we were surprisingly full!
The opening times surprised me here, it closes at 5pm on a Sunday, which seems a little early. I'd would have expected they would stay open longer, being located at such a prime spot for possible evening diners.
If you do come here sit in the back area, here you'll find the authentic old servants (?) kitchen with orginial Belfast sink, floor tiles and built in wood burning stove. Everything appears to be in miniature too. The rest of the interior is quite rustic with chunky timber and industrial style lighting. Very trendy urban chic.
L. S.
Nice place and delicious food.
U. A.
Great food and amazing coffee. Nice ambiance inside too. Probably not the best place with a large group as you can't pre book a table
P. A.
Very tasty food and fab coffee!
S. M.
The first of the two Urban Angels in the city which opened with the ethos to produce local, sustainable food in a contemporary setting.
The majority of tables are downstairs with stripped floors, vintage mirrors grey woodwork and in one of the rooms a bread-oven. They also have a small outside space during the summer months.
They do a great brunch menu including greek yoghurt with seasonal compote and granola, smoothies, and eggs benedict as well as full Scottish breakfast (and veggie options).
I also love their little tapas-style plates and they do a daily selection of specials.
For dessert lover's the Hanover St premises seems to have a more varied range of puddings with a wide range of cake and accompanying ice-creams.
M. M.
A non-Australian Australian-style cafe, serving avo on toast, real beans from a kitchen, and flat whites. Larger inside than it looks (dining area resembles an old pub). Wait on weekends but grab a coffee and join the queue it's worth it.
C. P.
I went to Edinburgh 3 days and 2 had breakfast there. The service is super friendly and the food really delicious, I recommend the Benedictine eggs and the avocado toast.
D. S.
Delicoous coffee with a wide range of milk alternatives and beans! Great for the real coffee lover.
F. K.
Pleasant staff, made very welcome as was our Guide Dog puppy in training. Good menu, excellent food & relaxed atmosphere.
K. C.
Perfect breakfast place😍
V. M.
Lovely, healthy breakfast! Smoothies bad value for money, tiny glass for 5 pounds. Very popular so come early in the morning
C. E.
Super hipster place. I mean, the guy in the counter is a twenty something with a 19th century-elementary-my-dear-watson moustache. Excellent brunches, good servings. Super nice waiters (including Victorian Moustache).
A. O.
Lovely food and lovely space!Be prepared to wait for a while.Wish it was possible too book brunch on weekends, I would be happy to pay a deposit.1hour wait is just too much :(
R. L.
In love with this place. The food is incredible and the staff is super friendly!!
E. P.
Everything about Urban Angel creates a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere - from the friendly staff to the rustic decor.
We came for a special Sunday brunch after reading the reviews and we weren't disappointed! The food was yummy and healthy - the perfect (healthy) way to fight off the hangover from the night before!
R. M.
I had an amazing breakfast with friendly, efficient service. The music playing could well have been from my very own iPod! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Edinburgh.
D. T.
Delicious. We stopped here for brunch after getting off the train & it was amazing. Book a table as it is usually a good wait to be seated.
E. C.
Nice breakfast and good coffee. Get there early as we tried to get in on our first day but there was a 45 min wait. For a coffee? Breakfast? Plenty of other places without the wsit
G. M.
Respect to other places around is better organised, food quality is really good and price wise with no doubt beat the competition. Also the staff is really welcoming and kind

Staff are lovely! Great relaxed vibe amazing coffee lots of good vegan options.

Great healthy food. I loved their breakfast and acai bowl. The place is xozy. However, the size of capucino is small compared to other coffee shops in the uk.
P. t.
Picked this cafe/restaurant for an evening meal as their menu included a couple of different sounding vegetarian options. The menu was not very extensive but all the dishes we had were delicious and it was great to find a restaurant where they make as much effort with the vegetarian dishes as with the meat ones.
A. A.
Quick lunch in a lovely tiny place with soups, brioches, rich salads, and savory pies. I recommend the coconut&chocolate cake!
M. W.
There might be a bit of a wait for a table, but one you get in it's great food, great coffee and great service from there on. If you're a fan of bright friendly places with fresh organic ingredients give this a go.
D. D.
Great coffee! The lines are always long here but if you’re lucky, go for their brunch or lunch. Food is decent but coffee is the best!
M. R.
Lovely place for my breakfast with many healthy options. Coffee was very good and well as the food. Definitely will return next time I visit Edinburgh

Visited this cute lil spot on google’s recommendation when i reached Edinburgh. Lovely cute place. Was served by their lovely manager and the food and coffee was on point.
I would defo be back when I’m back in town.
J. C.
Lovely relaxing place for your morning coffee :) Great prices.

Cosy little Cafe, great menu with lots of choices, delicious food at fair prices. Smoothies have lots of variety and taste amazing. 10/10.
K. R.
Amazing food and fantastic service! Well priced too! Definitely would come back again. :)))))
D. G.
Lovely little place with great, fresh food, freshly squeezed fruit juice. Very filling and delicious
D. M.
One of my favourite places for breakfast in Edinburgh. Service is excellent, lots of choices, nice surroundings, delicious food and all at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
S. H.
Interesting place serving fresh local meals. Mainly breakfast, brunch and sandwiches. Don't expect a full on meal. Very nice however and worth a visit
I. Z.
very nice staff and excellent food.
S. H.
Really great food, and lovely staff, so friendly!
A.
I like the place, but the outdoor courtyard is pretty unpleasant.. not really up to the standard.
B. C.
We went to Urban Angel for brunch / lunch. My partner had the Arbroath smokie which he enjoyed and I had a chicken sandwich which I thought was a little over priced for the portion. Overall I thought Urban Angel was ok but after seeing it on many food website for Edinburgh I was expecting a little more. The food was ok and the atmosphere all but nothing special.
E. C.
Food tasted great and was presented amazingly. Really lovely staff who chatted to us and gave us suggestions for places to go while we sheltered from the rain!
L. T.
Breakfast smoothie looks amazing
A. A.
Wonderful food, super pleasant people and amazing prices. One of my favourites!
B. D.
Excellent service with a welcoming smile. Solid avocado on toast and the peanut butter on rye bread was a pleasant surprise. I would visit again
L. M. (.
Long wait for table (as clearly very popular), but short wait for food. Resonably priced for good quality food, very glad of the gluten free toast option. Interesting asthetic to the place.
F. F. F.
Wonderful brunch with super friendly staff. Daily specials for all menus are available even a daily juice! Love this place would go back again and again
I. M.
Coffee is always good here. Tremendous coconut cake.
M. L. S.
The portions are bigger than you would expect, longing for some more poached eggs. I recommend this as a date place, it's where I am going to take my love again at least.
U. S.
I love this cafe! Gets very busy on the weekends so worth booking. Excellent take away coffee too.
E.
Wonderful coffee and fantastic gluten free brunch, the bread was so nice. Definitely worth stopping by!
A. D.
The menu shown outside and online was not the same as what we were offered as apparently this week had a reduced menu. This was disappointing. The remaining fare was standard brunch.
M. S.
now that's what I call yummy food, bean chilli with extra meat and the home cooked chips, with a twist, wow, try them and find out, a must place to eat, delightfull, many thanks
S. T.
Make sure you go in early, although bigger than you'd expect, this place gets really busy! The prices are a little high, the food is good and service pleasant
C. D.
Nice, cosy, central cafe, great if you want a bite to eat. The cakes and brunches are particularly nice. Top of the list for a coffee break after an afternoon's shopping.
C. O.
I was just in town for a week and found this to be an excellent cafe serving great coffee which I struggled to find elsewhere. Food is delicious and the service was a perfect mix of friendly, informative and helpful
K. S.
Again a bit overpriced for what you get, i've certainly had better for less elsewhere. It almost feels like Urban Angel has built up a good reputation for having a good reputation. I'm not a huge fan though. Yeah organic, yeah fresh, but everyone is doing that right?
S. H.
Great breakfast and smoothies
S. W.
Best brunch in Edinburgh!
R. P.
We had a great breakfast. Cosy place, friendly staff, good food. Get in and find out. You won't regret.

M. A.
Great place to stop for breakfast...service was a bit slow but understand because it was very busy, food was delicoous, ordered the baked eggs with chorizo
S. T.
A sandwich shop with home made bread and soups with lovely unpretentious and well priced restaurant hidden at the back. Have a license so good lunch spot with a glad of wine.
A. F.
Very nice place. I'd say it was not very cheap but ok. Food was served absolutely beautifully and was very tasty. Great coffee too and good service.
S. H.
The guys at Urban Angel were so friendly, helpful and accommodating for my boyfriend's birthday. Really recommend this lovely place!
K. M.
Great food, location, friendly staff and decent prices. However, service was slow and toilets were in a weird location and were small and not very clean.
M. W.
Really nice for lunch in these covid times. Quality bacon and pancakes. Yum.
J. J.
Nice place very cool looking decor. Food was great and so was service. Was busy when we went, so don't leave it to late to go
H. W.
Blink and you miss Urban Angel, tucked away as it is under the hill that leads down from Hanover Street to Queen Street Gardens. Its name is a bit misleading - it is smart in a rustic kind of way; I very much enjoyed the range and quality of the offerings, and the service was very good indeed. I'll be back ...
N. D.
Went in today. Absolutely lovely Eggs Benedict, super friendly staff. A bit of a queue though.
D. W.
Food here is cheap and the ambiance is good.

Coffee Average. Food Average. Service friendly. A bit over priced for what you get on the plate however it is in the centre.

Healthy eating. Great food. Well sourced ingredients. Good atmosphere.
V. P.
Great place for brunch, the wait is a bit annoying sometimes and I wouldn't wait ages for a table. One to go to when it's quiter

Food it's ok but not great. The place is not worm enough and chairs with no padding.
