Reviews of Kember & Jones
P.
K&J always holds a special place in our heart. We don’t live in Glasgow so every time we are in the city, we make sure we stop by as often as we can before we leave again.
Love their ambient and the extremely wide varieties of bread and pastries. And their soups with the delicious cheese scone just hit the spot every single time.
Staffs are always attentive and welcoming. Can’t wait to come back again!

We came here twice during a week. I really in love with the vibes and everything especially the most delicious food. The staff were excellent at every visit. I will come back again for sure.
It's important to mention that, the waitress added something we didn't want to the receipt by mistake. We asked her about it. She smoothly corrected the total and said sorry for that. I would thank her so much.
C. G.
It's a very busy cafe but worth the short wait for my first visit today (Sunday mid-day). The coffee was excellent and so was the banana bread that I had. You could tell the staff were working very hard and it was nice to see the baking etc going on just below me. Worth the visit and would definitely visit again!
D. H.
Had to wait a little for a table but understandable given the time we went. They also had a polite sign up asking people not to use laptops so they were clearly doing their best to serve as many people as possible. Service was quick enough given how busy it was and both the coffee and pastries were fantastic. My only regret is that we were only in Glasgow for the day so could only visit once!
C. M.
First time but certainly not my last great service and food was hot and delicious
J. G.
Found this neat cafe in Hyndland on Byres road, I had a steak sandwich on sourdough bread. My family got the soup of the day and a Belgian waffle. The hot chocolate was very delicious. I split a banana and Nutella muffin and that was very good! Would definitely suggest this cafe!
E. A.
Had warm waffles, beacon and Canadian Maple syrup. It was nice and the beacon was cooked properly.

The coffee is phenomenal, didn’t expect and walked in randomly. Was drowned by the cakes and amazed by their coffee. I had americano and friend got coconut flat white. The first sip of the americano was eye opening. The flat white was amazing as well. Pleasantly surprised! I mean who can make americano good means they can make anything good means their coffee was literary good.
a very lovely place, great variety of cakes. I bought vegan chocolate, the savory pastry (don’t know how to call it. Hahahah) and the egg white frost (that’s how We call it in China) very tasty. The vegan one was not sugary very good.
5 stars recommended

Portions are large so no need for a starter and main but do order cake to go. Lovely food choices and all cooked fresh on the premises. Would definitely return
M. O.
Food is lovely, however there are many issues with the waiting system and staff. I stood waiting in an exceptionally disorganised queue that was so long it was outside the door. Waited for 45 minutes (ridiculous) with no indication of how long the wait would be. When we were finally seated we were absolutely starving and extremely thirsty. We were handed the menus and decided what we wanted with in about 30 seconds. The table next to us who was seated after us got to order first, not only that but by the time we were actually served they had their drinks and cakes etc!! It took over 20 minutes after a ridiculous 45 minute wait to even be served. Kember food is great but there are fundamental flaws. They need a second location or need to move to a bigger premises AND improve service.
N. M.
It gets very busy so if you're local, you need to learn to time it right. Worth the wait though, especially if you are a fan of cakes - which I am. Love it!
G. S. T.
One of my favourite places for brunch. Great vibes, delicious food and friendly staff. Ideal for a late morning brunch or a coffee and cake in the early afternoon.
S. M.
Tasty selection of desserts and cakes as always
R. N.
Recommended by my daughter who is at university in Glasgow, one of her favourite places to eat. I wasn't disappointed, delicious food and friendly service. Definitely be back.
M. C.
Staff very friendly and food really nice. Very busy so it is obviously a popular place!
F. S.
A lovely cafe serving great food with excellent friendly staff, will definitely be back.
N. E.
Lovely place with all Homemade cakes and delicious tea , very worthwhile to visit!
m. r.
Great place!... lovely staff...food n coffee xlnt
Pic of rare roast beef and ememtal cheese, rocket and dijon mayo on sourdough bread....wonderful!!!
S. M.
I think probably one of the best breakfasts I've ever had! Absolutely delicious, had the beans and bacon on sourdough, but everything we ordered was great and friendly staff too.
N. G.
Very nice waffles and bacon and top class coffee.
D. S.
Lovely food and great selection of cakes. The coffee was excellent and service very good.
D. F.
This a nice place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. The baking and bread are five star, but the menu is slightly uninspiring and the food is basic and a bit boring. Given the offerings in the west end the menu is fairly week and lacks a bit of creativity. I suspect the size of the kitchen is a limiting factor. The breads and bakery are however he strong point of the offerings. Worthwhile to stop for quick breakfast.
A. R.
Amazing coffee and hot chocolate. We didn't eat here but the food I seen looked lovely. I will have to try for lunch next visit
M. T.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Awesome coffees and the wife rates the fruit scones as the best in Glasgow. Great service from a lovely team. Had the delicious ham and cheese toastie. Delicious!!
V. P.
Awesome Hot Chocolate and great ambience. Being one of the busiest cafes in West End, it's hard to get a table during rush hours.
M. M.
Great place to hang out by yourself or with friends. Breakfast, brunch or lunch. Lovely staff and good coffee to go.
J. K. K.
Bit disappointed service and food quality.
A. S.
Was greatly excited by the delicious looking array of baking greeting you as you walk in. Unfortunately, the fresh orange juice was from a Tropicana carton, and the ham and Gueyere toast was slightly underwhelming. Would definitely return for afternoon treat though!
R. B.
Had a lovely breakfast. The waffles tasted so fresh!
E.
Amazing food and service. One of my favourite places for brunch. Sit in or takeaway. Great food and coffee options.
G. G.
Great food, staff very friendly and attentive. Great experience, Very busy at weekends.
T.
Breakfasted here today, my usual being unaccountably closed until later. K&J is not cheap but you do get the quality. My avocado mash on sourdough was juicy and nicely seasoned. The ambiance buzzes and the staff are friendly. A nice range of dishes and drinks. I'll come back for lunch one day to try their choice of wines.
A. A.
Lovely cafe for your quick brekkie and lunch. I had the Belgian chocolate cake and it was amazing. I definitely will be back there to try some of their other pastries and cakes. The staff were super helpful too
s. l.
I ordered feta and quinoa super salad and took away. After coming back home, just found there was no avocado inside. I really love avocado and this was why I ordered this salad. So upset that k&j forgot put it inside.
K. G.
Tasty chai latte and breakfast available. And so much choice for baked goods! Note you can't stay for long hours
A. K.
What a lovely place, I could eat with my eyes, everything looked so fresh and delicious , it's definitely a must to go. Staff was also very nice, I'll be back soon to try more as left me wanting more!
L. R.
Nice place, quite pricey especially more than £3 for a very small coffee
B. M.
Enjoyed our visit for brunch, enjoyed the atmosphere and the decor, also liked the fact that it was dog friendly. The food was good value for money with the quantity being more than adequate. Will definitely visit again.
M. A.
Great food, great service. Recommend it
M. F. O.
Lovely food, lovely atmosphere, good prices, decent service.
X. L.
Fantastic place to get coffee. The homemade bread and pastries are also nice. Definitely one of my favourite places in Glasgow.
K.
Good coffee and bakery. The mint tea was the best I've evert tried! However, I didn't really like the Spanish tomatoes since it was a bit too salty and not to my taste.
The real pickle I had this place was they told me I had overstayed right after I had ordered another cup of tea, so I had to uncomfortably down the cup I would've liked to take my time sipping. Its ok if you want me to leave, just don't take my money first.
S. S.
Great cafe. Variety of food and drink options, prices are reasonable and staff are really lovely. Would recommend.
P. J. D.
Super wee dining experience. Great menu with all sorts of fab options and a good specials board. Coffee is solid and the cakes are a wow.
A. L.
Lovely and lively wee bistro cafe on the atmospheric Byers Rd in Glasgow, perfect setting to meet up with a friend from primary school whom I haven't seen in 43 years. Parking close by - cash or mobile phone payment, easy access by road, subway, or walking. Plenty of seating, and reasonably priced.
Recommended!
C. G.
Quite frankly the best bacon roll I have ever had. The banana bread is pretty spectacular too, no wonder the queues stretch way out the door. Visit, purchase, eat and enjoy...then come back for more.
J. S.
Coffee and cake - great! Even vegan cake tastes good. Interesting flavours and light meal choices. Helpful staff. Can get busy - not surprisingly.
M. C.
Friendly, helpful and professional staff. Lovely old building with some original features remaining. Food top drawer....best strawberries and raspberries I have eaten. Great bread baked in store and fantastic coffee.
A. V.
Blows my mind every time. Whether I'm having a tea and pastry, a sandwich or a salad, this place always satisfies. Cozy environment, kind staff and dog friendly.
H. S.
Now one of my favourite places for breakfast. The service is good and the food is excellent. Sitting in could be a little warmer.
A.
cute café near the botanical garden and university. only 4 stars bc the coffee wasnt amazing.
沈.
FISH BOARD:Fish with cream tastes good
CREAM CHEESE AND ROSTE PEPPER SANDWICH:Sandwich tastes good
n. b.
First time had to wait as so busy but thats why we went great food and fab atmosphere
D. T.
Good Quality food, great coffee experience. Staff friendly and helpful. Cakes and homebaking is a must. Buy your breads or snacks too and do takeaway. Highly recommended
A. T.
This is one of the best bakery cafes I have ever been to. The home baked bread smells incredible and makes you instantly hungry when you walk in. The sandwiches are amazing and there’s a great selection. You should definitely leave room for cake too as these are all homemade and include scones, cakes and cookies. Scones are served with cream and jam which makes it hard to pick anything else. The coffee is also outstanding. It can be busy here and they do pack people in.
L. L.
Great fresh baking and food to order. I personally love the delicious fresh daily scones served with a cup of tea but they do all sorts of amazing treats to tempt you! If wanting to eat food, I'd recommend the home made baked beans on toast- always delicious or try one of their amazing sandwiches with artisan bread!
H. M.
Really nice place to go for lunch. Perhaps a little expensive but worth it if you’re happy to spend ££. Take away food is MUCH cheaper.
I had an excellent coffee and waffle and ordered a beef baguette to go.
Bread and baked goods are superb. They have their own dedicated bakery in another location.
Magically skipped any queues and was seated immediately, although the entire time we were here, there were people stood waiting. So beware!
C. L.
Lovely little place for a delicious Sunday Brunch, whether sweet - waffles with berries and syrup or savoury - scrambled eggs on sourdough with avocado.
D. P. J. B.
Very nice food, large choice of cakes. Great service 👏
R. S.
Take away only at K & J for now but the baking is a delicious as ever - the eternal favourite white sourdough; scrumptious muffins; cakes to indulge yourself with. And you must try the orange and fig and sour cherry amaretti. Mouthwatering , morish little treats. Plus excellent coffee. 10 to 4, Wedenesday to Sunday at the moment (12/02/21)
P. D.
Have been going to K and J since it opened. It never fails to deliver the best coffee ever. Their food, bread and cakes are fantastic also. Long may it continue.
J. D.
Was driving passed and decided to stop as they had a very tasty window display. Wasnt disappointed, the cheese scones were still warm when we got them and so was the portuguese custard and it was to die for! Took some muffins home and enjoyed them after lunch. The food here is ahhhmazing with friendly passionate stuff. I definitely recommend a visit 💗
M. L.
Food was very nice. I just wanted a leak & cheddar tart but they managed to spruce it up to a lovely meal. Lovely interior too.
C. D.
Best cafe in the area. Great bread, pastries, tea, and food. Service is nice. Good seating with multiple floors. Only issue is it can get busy and you can't go in the later evening.
S. F.
Really nice place to have breakfast, brunch or a snack! Amazing food and many options to choose. The staff is good and always helpful, specially the Greek girl. Prices are a bit higher than the average. Always a good place to have coffee and brunch!
O. I.
I wanted to order a ready made cake on the same day since it was a last minute notice yet there wasn’t left. So I chose mini cakes and etc. and they were absolutely divine; everyone liked them. Million thanks to the staff there for helping me pick as well the nut-free ones, definitely coming back again.
V. V.
Lovely atmosphere and delicious Victoria sponge (ate it so quick I forgot to take a pic). All the cakes looked great too, I will be returning for sure.
G. W.
I am regular here. The salads, sandwiches and specials have never let me down. Always fresh and full of flavour. This place is very cosy and staff are very friendly and helpful. I never leave here without coffee and cake. This place is almost always full or a line for people waiting to be seated. It’s worth the wait so just bare the pain for a few minutes.
D. M.
A little expensive and the food wasn't all that great.
Edit. I went back a few times at my friend's insistence. The desserts are amazing. Love their fruit pies and cookies. Their coffee is really good.
I do stand by my initial review of their lunch service though.
L. C.
First time visiting today and the place is amazing. Friendly staff, lovely seating areas, the food is delicious! I tried the belgian waffle with bacon and maple syrup, delicious! And the coffee tastes very good ☕😊
K. P.
Lovely wee place, gorgeous food. I had a lunch with a wonderful sausage roll and chutney with a bean salad and it was absolutely delicious. It all looked wonderful. The only downside is it is small and so there may be a wait for a table.
N. N.
The leek and asparagus tart, though good, was very small and inadequate for a lunch. The cappuccino? Maybe because I requested almond milk but it was terrible. The clementine cake though was delicous! The tea is decent, just a bag. 3 stars mostly because I really like the atmosphere, it's relaxed and open late. And the service is wonderful!
W.
Apple crumble cake with cream was amazing and staff are super friendly. Would return
K. M.
The food was fab, fast service. Lost stars because the food hygiene is bad - I saw one employee handle money from a customer (coins & notes) with plastic gloves on, they then took the gloves off & another employee put on these gloves and proceeded to cut up and grate different cheeses. Gross. These same gloves were taken off and used by different people for several tasks after that. They were disposable gloves. I’m sorry, but that’s gross - either wash your hands regularly or use different gloves each time.
B. J.
This is a very special place, It has style and everything I tried here has been impeccable. Sybaris for skills are top notch.
T. S.
I stood waiting for some time to be sat at a table. I had been before and I had throughly enjoyed it. However this time, it just wasn't as good and I can't say I will be back. I had the halloumi on sourdough, simple enough, but my halloumi was over done and quite tough. I did not mention it at the time, as I had been on the nightshift and I was too tired to complain and feel awkward. Maybe it was an off day for them but with plenty of other choices locally, I will venture else where in future.
D. S.
It's a nice place, pretty funky and chilled. Nice place to do some work or meet for a coffee and cake. Service was good if not a bit on the slow side for just a slice of cake but otherwise fine, nice and friendly staff. Good coffee.
B. M.
Fantastic food including cakes and bread baked on the premesis. Very popular, you may need to queue to get in. Staff very friendly and helpful.
K. G.
One of the best cafes in Glasgow! Their coffee is really good (not like that brown water from the big chains), the staff is very friendly and their cakes are delicious. 100% recommend it!
J. B.
Great coffee and Macarons in nice surroundings
S. C.
What a delightful place. We have been coming to Glasgow for 9 years now and have never found a really cozy place with lots of salads and vegetarian options. This place has many great things going for it. The salad nicoise and avocado on rye toast were so tasty we kept saying "yum" with each new bite. Plus the St Mungo lager went incredibly well with our meal.
D. B.
They make the best cakes (and breads) in the city, as far as I'm concerned! In fact, it's lovely food all around (it's a deli type place)! The downside is that they don't take bookings as it's quite small! But worth a wait if there's a queue!
R. B.
The best breakfast I have ever had, and I'm a biiig fan of breakfast. The belgium waffle with crispy bacon and maple syrup was just... perfect. Busy, cosy little shop with tons of fresh bakery items. Highly recommend.
R. S.
Their waffles are absolutely incredible! 😍
J. R.
Great place for brunch or lunch with a variety of sandwiches and salads as well as savoury tarts and a delicious selection of baking! Busy particularly at lunchtime so be prepared for a short wait, particularly at weekends, but good service with friendly staff!
S. b.
Really good coffee and waffle. A must try coffee shop in Glasgow.
F. G.
Good food and very fast
J.
I have eaten there a few times now and have always been very happy with the food, and the way that it has been served so I can honestly say it is one of my favourite places in Glasgow. It a perfect spot for breakfast or lunch - I can recommend their waffles with bacon and maple syrup, banana bread and granola with yoghurt.
They also sell a selection of artisan breads, jams, cookbooks and other items for home.
It's located in cool neighbourhood of West End, only few minutes from the Botanic Gardens and other attractions which makes this perfect place for grabbing a bite.
M. C.
A wonderful place to pass the occasionally sunny Glasgow days whilst seated outside people watching. Possibly the epitome of west end culture. Fantastic coffee, always served with a glass of water (a very nice touch) and some of the best sandwiches you'll find in Glasgow
m. z.
Home of homemade!!! No premade reheated food- all made to order, which is why you may wait bit longer than in Starbucks. If you are looking for a healthy huge salad or less healthy massive slice of cake you'll find it here. Coffee is good too.
I. W.
My favourite coffee shop in Glasgow. The aubergine soup with bread is fantastic and I love he scones. Get there early for lunch because it's always packed!
E. M.
Been coming here for years now. Fantastic coffee, waffle and berries, huge meringues feel like they can give you diabetes but totally worth it.
L. C.
Great coffee! Always worth a visit when in the West End.
F. C.
Had rye toast with avocado and salmon and warm banana bread with pecans and crème fraîche. Everything was delicious, made with healthy and fresh ingredients. A must go breakfast place in Glasgow
T. F.
One of those many spots on Byers Road you pass by ever so often and then eventually decided to pop in. I shared a bottle of tempranillo/syrah with a friend, she had a pate platter. The pate platter looked amazing and the different artisan breads that come with it where of very generous size. I got one of their artisan baguettes, and must say, one of the best baguettes I've ever had in the UK. Truly reminiscent of the bread you get in the south of France. Will definitely buy more!
S. G.
As usual my visit was great. Scones delicious and coffee tasty. The staff member who seated me was brusque and impolite
S. R.
The cake, salads and sandwiches are delicious, and there are multiple gf options on the cake front. Very busy, so sometimes you have to wait for a seat, but worth it.
K. C.
Always love a visit here, I regard this place as the alternative breakfast, no cooked fried breakfast. They have waffles and bacon or fruit, lovely bricher museli, homemade beans (seriously good) and good coffee worth a visit
A. M.
Nice and cute coffee place
d. B.
Great coffee, lovely location. Decent cake!
Well worth a visit.
Not the cheapest on Byres Rd, but deff one of the best.
C. C.
Nice cafe that serves a range of artisan bread and cakes. Personally love the custard tart. However price is a bit steep.
L. V.
Delectable. The store was always decorated with beautiful fresh flowers.
M. L.
Perfect breakfast 👍😊😊😊
E. D.
They have amazing Moroccan mint tea. Great atmosphere, but always very busy! The food is delicious!
e. o.
Great coffee and cake and very friendly staff. It also has the best bread in town for sale. Evenings are very relaxed and quiet.
A. T.
The coffee is completely fine but the cakes are too sweet for me. It's suitable for someone who love very sweet cakes 🤗
F. B.
A lovely cup of tea & a Parma ham tart with salad. Very tasty cakes & quiches. A nice setting to blether and catch up with a friend
M. Š.
Kember & Jones is a must-visit in Glasgow! The atmosphere there is just amazing and all food and drinks are top notch!
B. C. E.
One of the very few spots which has artisan bread. Avocado and tomato rye toast with sea salt is yum! Sometimes though it gets too crowded.
A. S.
Best bacon roll ever! Lots of actually crispy bacon and roll generously buttered. Delicious!
A. M.
Really good breakfast and coffee...first time visit, won't be the last
A. C.
Tried then chocolate beetroot cake. ( take away) Excellent. Moist, fresh, soft, the beetroot favour is not strong as all. . It is a bit pricey . But worth it.
A.
Good selection of brunch food. Service q bit slow to start with. Lots of seating space in good area of town.
E. B.
Delicious food, nice atmosphere to sit in. Staff are a bit casual though, I once had to wait ages to buy a sandwich off the counter because the girl on the till was distracted by something on a sheet of paper she was looking at (which could have waited til after she'd served me) and she totally blanked me.
E. H.
Great brunch/lunch spot in the West End. I love the pastries! The tuna salad sandwich is also a favourite
Z. P.
Kember and Jones, or K&J as it’s affectionately known, is a West End deli,
café, cookbook shop and bakery extraordinaire. Although they opened in
2004, it’s only since last year that they started making their own coffee,
artisan bread and yummy pastries. Seats are always in demand so you
might find yourself perched on a metal stool inbetween other diners but
once your food arrives you’ll barely notice. You’ll come for lunch and leave
with chocolate, something for supper and maybe even a ceramic coffee
cup.
K. S.
Brunch is really good and it's really bright and airy inside. It's been a Glasgow institution for a long, long time and basically popularised the whole notion of "brunch".
N. S.
Food very nice, a bit pricey for a cafe menu, but enjoyable. Prefer table service. Bland atmosphere.
L. B.
Great for brunch with a good selection of foods. The mocha is quite nice and the sourdough is spot on.
M. B.
Busy at times but for good reason, food is delicious as is the baking & coffee. We come here regularly even though there are several places closer to home.
R. B.
Delicious pastry and a bacon buddy with practically a whole package of bacon in it 😂
P. R.
Brilliant salads, great coffee and cakes
F. M.
Reasonably priced, excellent coffee and delicious food. Brilliant selection of books to look at while you are waiting on a table and macaroons to go at the till
a. b.
Been coming since opening in 2004. Always the same excellent quality, never dipped!! We live in Southside and still make the effort to come here. Worth a trip.
C. B.
Excellent Lapsang Souchong leaf tea and home made cakes.

B. C.
Fantastic service at a great cafe, the biscotti was fresh, dine in service came with paper straws! Super cool
E. M.
This place changed a lot in the last years. I used to come here to buy a lot of different kind of food, now almost exclusively to buy bread ... the current best in town: Miller sourdough!
D.
The best baguettes in Scotland!
i. s.
Great tasting coffee if not a little expensive. Odd coffee cups fit only if you posses one finger, strange.
J. H.
Amazing cakes and food, friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. Nice how late it is open too.
P. C. (.
Cute interior, excellent hot chocolate, super friendly staff, great for a quick stop and chat with friends. Nicer location, close to Subway

Visit this morning for breakfast after staying in Glasgow for the night, didn’t fancy the usual heavy fried hotel breakfast so gave here a go and was not disappointed. Warm waffle with yogurt and fruit isn’t the kind of breakfast I’d usually go for but will definitely be returning on the next trip to Glasgow and highly recommended. We even bought cakes to take away
Staff and atmosphere were great, service and food arrived quickly and with a smile
K. L.
Best cakes in town...! Actually, the only game in town.

(Translated) We had to wait a bit to get a table on a weekday in early November but it was worth it!
The products are fresh, the plates generous and well presented. A feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds.
The cheese scone is however a little dry but there are plenty of other things to try!

(Translated) I really liked it, especially the cappuccino with dark chocolate shavings on top of the milk foam. They have very good looking breads, I didn't try them but I'm sure they are good. The cakes are spectacular 😍 and the service was good. I saw some of the breakfasts they served and I wanted to make one but due to lack of time I couldn't. I will be back for sure!

(Translated) Excellent place in Glasgow for breakfast or brunch. Everything is very rich and the raw material is of quality. We have always gone without a reservation and we have got a place, although sometimes waiting for a little bit. If you are in the area it is an indispensable place to visit. The waiters' attention is very good

(Translated) The place is very cozy. We go back there because we feel good there and we always have a good time. The belgian waffles are really very good I think. Coffee and pastries are good but not exceptional in my opinion.
