Reviews of The Wild Olive Tree
D. B.
What a lovely tranquil cafe (at least at 3.45pm on Sat it was; it was very quiet!), in the middle of busy city centre, playing the most amazing relaxing/reflective music! The decor is also beautiful! And, they also pride themselves on good quality produce, namely bread from Freedom Bakery, home baking & coffee ('Dear green coffee Roasters'), all beautifully served too (accompanied by a bottle of water! & all, I.e. scone with all its 'trimmings' & a lovely latte for just £5.60!). Not to mention the good Christian work they do, including feeding the hungry, employment kind work, etc!

Really neat dining experience in the heart of downtown Glasgow. The restaurant is accessible through the side entrance of the church that houses it, and boasts a lot of seating comfortably spread out amongst the dining room area (the church's nave).
The menu features primarily soups with bread, scones and a number of other desserts, as well as coffee, too. I ordered a scone with cream, and my friend ordered tea as well as a scone. The service here was amazing and quite quick, with friendly staff members, and my scone was great (vanilla scone). My friend's scone was also good (pumpkin, sunflower scone), but it was not nearly as good as the one I ordered, and the tea was also pretty decent.
Additionally, I should point out that the cream was a very good move, as it was excellent, and that the scones come with their own little jar of jelly, too, which is very good and tastes fresh. Other nice things included an accessible restroom at the back of the church, and the interior feeling warm yet also nice and airy.
The small complaints that I do have are that the restaurant does not have menus that they pass out to you, and you need to stand near the entrance to look over the menu and order, which can be a problem when people are entering the restaurant or when it becomes busier. Other than that, a great experience (plus they have strong wifi with a code on the menu at the front!)

Best scones in Glasgow. Great service professionally run and friendly helpful staff. Their soups are excellent as well. Lovely bright venue and the toilets are always scrupulously clean. I always have my cuppa here when in town and always donate coffees for the homeless. I reccomend The Olive Tree to my friends as a must when they visit Glasgow.
G. H.
Stumbled on this gem by accident and thought we would try it. Amazing Chai latte!!! All the scones were different. Unique flavors.
S. H.
Lovely place for a delicious soup and bread lunch along with coffee and cake if wished. There is limited choice, but all of excellent quality. Staff are very helpful and cheerful and atmosphere is calm and relaxing.

My favorite place in Glasgow, Amazing good food..Morrocan Chicken Soup,Savory Scone was a master piece.Hello to Helen, the Chaplain, and Asha..Thank you
B. B.
Amazing and varied homemade soups, scones and cakes, all on offer on a daily basis. Today I had Moroccan chicken soup with a treacle scone....strange mixture, I know, however, treacle scones are such a rarity these days and it was delicious.
The cafe is now table service and staff are so friendly and engage with you when , first, they bring a bottle of water and glasses to your table.
Love the sharing of tables, especially encouraged when it's busy.....which is most days over lunch period.
When paying, consider a donation to allow a homeless person some nourishing food.
Once visited, defy you not to revisit, it's so worth it.
s. M.
The best place to go for soup and a scone. Lots of different combinations, and the coffee is great too.
Chilled atmosphere, pretty surroundings and convenient location.
K. S.
This is a truly great place.A sanctuary in the middle of town &wonderful staff.
Soups, scones, cakes all superb and it donates hot meals to the needy/homeless who can just walk in!
The most uplifting place in every way.
m. m.
Great scones. Good coffee. Can be a little chilly inside however this is to be expected from a church. Music isn't to everyone taste but always return for the food and service. No complaints here
D. B.
Glasgows best kept secret- great food and friendly service. Well worth a visit
B. I.
How have I walked past this for years and never been in? Lovely staff and the food was genuinely delicious, shout out to the sweet potato and coconut soup!
K. F.
Peaceful refuge in the city with good music and a relaxing vibe. I love that it's a charity operation. It's only open from 10:30-4:30 but pretty hopping on a Saturday! Cool to have a cafe hidden in a church!
J. H.
Excellent value, food, drinks and staff. Great location right in the centre of the city. Supports Glasgow City Mission so greatly beneficial as well as great cafe.
Update March 2022 - still absolutely excellent!!
M. D.
Home made soups, variety of breads, scones, cakes and drinks on offer. Fresh food, friendly staff . Best to book during busy times.
I. B.
This is a gem of a place home made soup bread and cakes well worth a visit

Food was good. Nice environment to sit in for coffee and cake. Roast veg and feta pasta salad was really nice. They run out of meals just after lunch so head down bit earlier to try
I. M.
Great cafe. They're big on the charity front. Lovely coffee
A. R.
Lovely peaceful yet lively place where you can relax or chat with music in the background. Table service, very good prices and brilliant homemade soups, hot and soft drinks, homemade cakes and scones.
A. D.
Wonderful! I've never seen so many delicious flavours of scone! Lovely soup, lovely atmosphere, lovely staff, lovely!

I have visited the Wild Olive Tree many times in the past few years. I have used both take away and sit in. I love the scones (especially treacle) and the soups. Also good to leave a donation for people who need help so that they can have a soup or coffee. The staff are all very friendly and the location is very peaceful. Highly recommended.
K. B.
Lovely little cafe. Very spacious and attractive surroundings. Had gorgeous soup and scone. Would use regularly if lived local.
S. E.
Great place in the middle of Glasgow, ideal when you're waiting for train. Cosy atmosphere and attentive, friendly staff.
B. M.
Best lentil soup in town. Coffee is delicious, if only they sold an extra large 😏. I'm not religious but I found the religious iconography an interesting addition to my lunch. Staff are lovely too
G. Q.
A wonderful oasis of calm in the City Centre - lovely staff as well
K. B.
We had soup here on a Saturday lunchtime. Soup was delicious, and a big portion for £4.50 with really nice bread. Will definitely go back and try the cake or scones next time. The space inside was nice..airy and light but still warm and welcoming. Fab!!
P.
Had tea and a delicious vegan scone this afternoon. Lovely friendly environment, looking forward to coming back to try their yummy looking soup 🍲
J. D.
I always come here for my lunch. The soups here are always lovely, great portion sizes, always fresh. Plus, they donate to many charities, and they also feed the homeless, with an option to buy a meal for a homeless person. Worth a vist!
m. p.
Surprisingly lovely space with tasty food. No big menu. Couple of paintings worth a look. Thought it was going to one of those "worthy' churchy places. Not.
E. C.
Great soup !! ♡ lovely wee place
A. L.
Best cafe in Glasgow! Great scones and coffee. Interesting environment and good cause.
K. C.

J. B.
What a lovely place to eat and relax. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The scones we had were the best we could ever have. A nice place to get away from the very busy town centre. The prices are very low but you are made more than welcome. Will definitely be back when we next visit.
M. M.
Great food, lovely staff, very relaxing
L. J.
Lovely cafe, clean and well spaced out. Soups and scones are delicious. There are usually 4 types of soups and 4 types of savoury or sweet scones daily, all homemade.
A.
Amazing place, delicious soup & real home made bread. Amazing service, one of my fave places in Glasgow.
T. H.
Love the soups here and the cheese and chive scones. Good service. Great relaxing atmosphere too.
A. M.
Lovely haven of calm in a busy city centre. Beautiful home made soups and scones. With an equally tempting selection of home baking. Well worth a visit. Take the opportunity to pay for a soup or coffee for someone who cannot afford it.
T. W.
Excellent meet up place especially if there is a group of you. Lovely home made scones to die for. Also encourages you to pay it forward as it encourages homeless people for coffee. However it is not mandatory to do this. And no one asks. I usually round up my bill to the nearest £5.
J. C.
A little gem. Tucked away from the crowds in a church. Delicious soups, scones (savoury and sweet) & cakes. The interior has a great atmosphere, light and spacious with lots of original art on display. Service polite and friendly.
L. T.
The cafe is very good the soup is excellent they have about 4 or 5 different soups there scones are very good they have gluten free soup and bread as well . It is table service. The prices are very good £4.50 for a big bowl of soup and a scone is £4.50 . The cakes and very good as well. They bring a bottle of water to your table that is included in the price.
G. M.
Excellent home cooked food. The menu is really small, just soup, bread, salad and scones. But is very well done. Big bowls of soup and tasty big scones are enough to fill you up at lunch. Gluten free is also available and good vegetarian options.
n. r.
Fantastic, a little bit of heaven in all the craziness of the city. The scones are delicious. The service excellence and the cold bottled water was very welcome. Would definitely recommend. It is also a very active church, well worth a visit.
M. B.

What a great find! I had their AMAZING Roast Veg & Pesto Pasta Salad with a Cranberry, Orange & Papaya Scone on the side. So so SO good!! It is served with 2 pats of real butter and a tiny jar of delicious jam (Wilkin & Sons). Ordered a latte which was delicious as well! All of this for £8 ! Definitely recommend!
I. M.

Dropped in on a quick visit to Glasgow and recommend it. The menu is basic, Soups, a Salad and Home baking, but great quality, really tasty and affordable. Giving you a glass bottle of chilled water to your table is appreciated too.
D. S.
Great sanctuary in the middle of the city centre. Wonderful place to pop in for lunch or a coffee. Soups are homemade and terrific and the scones are something else. Staff are excellent and courteous. Well worth a visit.
M. F.
Very nice space to be in. Lovely staff. Great savoury scones & coffee.
C. B.
Such a lovely, comforting space with beautiful art inside which encourages reflection on pressing social issues. I love the idea of being able to 'pay forward' soup and coffee for homeless people that visit, I feel such schemes should be more common.
F. S.
Lovely soup and bread in a very tranquil setting- very pleasant staff and reasonably priced
C. M.
Nice sanctuary in city centre with wholesome food.
M. W.
Came in for a delicious hot bowl of homemade leek and potatoe soup with sourdough bread to warm us up. Then saw the scones!! So also had a plain scone with jam and polenta rocket & three cheeses with pot of tea and a latte. Excellent....and lovely friendly staff. Highly recommend and thank you.
