Reviews of Tinderbox
I. M.
Very library-like atmosphere, suitable for working or a casual visit.
Food was reasonably priced and delicious and drinks easily rival that of Costa.
U. M. G.
Not a huge fan of their coffee, even the price is not a huge incentive for ordering one. The place itself it quite big, there's plenty of room to work, that is my main reason for coming. Closes late to, which is quite helpful if you feel like working somewhere else than home.
D. M.
Busy place but staff very efficient and no queues. Great caramel late and empire biscuit. My fav 👍
A. R.
Pretty good coffee and snacks, but the front of the shop has seats and tables that are quite sticky. Move to the back of the seating area where there’s a big room that’s much cleaner and open. Very comfortable back there.
But there’s only one toilet that wasn’t clean when I went. Be warned 😅
X. M.
Fantastic atmosphere, great coffee and food. The cakes and pastries are incredible, always something new and fresh on offer. Lots of seating and plenty of space which is popular with students and out of office working. Ideal for meet up and a wide mix of seating for your requirements. Staff are very friendly and really helpful if you have any questions or need anything. Thoroughly recommend.
A. N.
Really busy place for coffee and tea. The staff there is quick and very polite. The best thing about them is that they are very responsive and willing to serve you quickly.
G. G.
What a great place to get your breakfast or lunch. Aside for the impeccable coffee, the environment is great as well as the music. The staff are friendly and professional. A gem in the centre of Glasgow
N. K.
The espresso and flat white were amazing. Lovely place to start your day!
K. M.
Great coffee, friendly staff, was restrained and didn't have baking but it looked good. Welcoming atmosphere too
G. T.
Been visiting here last few mornings as my bus route terminates around corner.
Coffee is excellent and a fair price and staff are all so nice. Highly recommended.
D. M.
Lovely staff. Well set up for working with sockets at tables. Tasty flat white and custard tart was delicious.
A. W.
A mixed bag here at Tinderbox in Ingram Street in Merchant city Glasgow, for instance the coffee is excellent, smooth and very refreshing but for an independent coffee shop the tables are uncleaned and littered despite it not being busy, that spoils it slightly. There's 3 other independent coffee houses close by so you are not spoiled for choice. It's modern over 2 floors and the service was as you would expect
A. A.
Average taste of coffee , not the very best coffee shop in town, dessert wasn’t as great , but staff service was good.
C. v. D.
Very big, nice place to study with outlets and cheap coffee. Can be pretty busy though and a little dirty on those days as they're a little understaffed
K. B.
Have the cannoli or the banana loaf, staff were very friendly and the store was clean, the coffee was tasty but could have been hotter.
P. O.
Have visited a few times recently and not been disappointed. Normally in high end coffee shops when I order an iced coffee I can taste the bitterness alongside the machineyness but not at tinderbox! Also those vanilla cannolis are to die for!
S. K.
Always appreciate the coffee at tinderbox, and really like this location. Downstairs was a wee bit messy and a lot of the seating was covered in dirty cups/trays. Other than that, our coffees and pastries were great.
G. A.
Nice place to sit, the coffee is OK.
Please stop putting hot coffee in glasses tho!
White chocolate hot chocolate is very good!
G.
The shop seems currently understaffed due to covid, so service was slow and many tables left uncleaned. However, the coffee was great and the staff kind.
A. M.
Lovely coffee with lots of seating and WiFi! We only had coffee but there seemed to be a good selection of sandwiches and sweet treats.
d. B.
Cracking convenient spot for a coffee and a bite...
Delicious salt caramel tart pictured was epic. Truly 10 out of 10 stuff.
Nice staff, shabby chic interior.
Well worth dropping by for lunch, coffee or a quick snack 👍
L. V.
A lot of options for gluten free cakes.
Both staff and customers are well-educated and friendly.
In my mind, this is one of the best choices in the glasgow, because they offer excellent coffees & healthy meals.
(Plus: opening until 22:00 is fantastic).
j. s.
Love the coffee here. Staff are friendly, and surroundings very comfortable.
E. P.
Good coffee, cakes and a lot of space
P.
One of the best places to study or work in city centre. Very cosy with comfy chairs and nice pastry. Clean restroom is also a plus.
D.
Great coffee, food and service. Plenty of seating and a good late night chilled atmosphere.
L. N.
Great atmosphere. Comfy sofas. Great coffee
R. R.
Great coffee, tasty cannoli in a nice environment
K. P.
Coffee was ok but I had mine to take away and by the time I'd left and it had cooled to drink, I realised the got my order wrong
F. C.
Good atmosphere, good coffee and the banana cake is amazing.
R. M.
Good coffee, good atmosphere and friendly staff :)
G. G.
Great to stop by for good coffee and snacks! ❤
T. G.
Busy, bustling cafe with excellent coffee and cakes!!! ❤
S. H.
Nice place, feels cozy and homey!
M. C.
Great place for coffee, cake and light bites.
S. S.
Always enjoyable, good selection of danish and other cakes.
K. P. S.
Pretty solid hot chocolate. Staff is really friendly. The space is quite big though I don't know how busy it gets.
A. M.
Lovely premises, friendly, helpful staff and great coffee and food. What more can you ask for? First class!
J. K.
This is a lovely cozy cafe a couple of minute's walk from Bucchanan. I would give 3.5 stars if I could. The people are nice and customers are served fast even at busy times so this would be a solid 4 stars due to service if I didn't get green tea every time I order peppermint tea (only happened on 2 visits but even if I took the order back and they were really nice about it I ended up getting green tea again - twice).
I'd give 5 stars despite that if they had more food options for gluten intolerants (there is a cookie). Also the lattes are a little inconsistent. My last one was quite bitter. I still come here because it's a convenient location and the service is good (apart from the tea's getting mixed a couple of times - maybe they're in the same box or something?).
R. L.
Spacious, contemporary interior, friendly staff, an amazing bun but a little too slow on service for me.
M.
Very good coffee and looks as good as it tastes
N. A.
Lovely chill out place. Friendly staff and clean facilities. Definitely be back.
C. A.
A nice atmosphere, with lots of seating and music that isn't too loud. There is an area with a couch and armchair, and games available to play. Staff are usually quite personable.
. The coffee is great - one of the few places that I've found smooth coffee. Usually I find coffee has a bitter or burnt taste. The hot chocolate is good too. Nice selection of pastries.
However, I just bought a ciabbata sandwich with mozzarella, tomato, pesto, and red onion that is more red onion than anything else. :(
S. w. C.
I went back to visit after 2 or 3 years. Can't quite remember and they have just excelled expectations. The selection of cakes and bites is far better than most other cafes I have been to. Like seriously.
Fresh and abundant in their selection of coffees, juices, foods and snacks. Love the atmosphere and totally family friendly. Sofas so comfy! Upstairs and downstairs seating with open glass window view of the city street surrounding.
:)
D. B.
Friendly staff, decent prices, great selection of cakes. The coffee is really nice - definitely one of the best coffee shops in town, and maybe the best coffee chain around. Loads of seats (including some cool comfy seats and bench seating in the back).
G. F.
The best coffee in Glasgow. Have been going here for years. The cakes and traybakes are amazing.
R. H.
This place is awesome, the coffee is outstanding not like the rubbish from Starbucks. There's a lot of little nooks and crannies where you can pass the day. The location is wonderful, very conviently located on the stroll down Ingram. I did not partake of any of the lovely looking pastries but it was certainly a challenge to my will power because the looked absolutely outstanding. I also loved the extra touch of the sign outside, "Scottish and independent before it was cool." So when you need your coffee fix make sure you stop at the Tinderbox.
C. D.
Really great food and coffee, milkshake was a little flavourless but customer service was terrible, my girlfriend who has severe anxiety was struggling to order and the man with glasses serving us was staring intensely/intimidating at her and being curt with her. Would've been a really great experience had he not been so rude and judgemental.
K. x.
This is a really nice spot to meet friends, chill out or do some work (if you want). I love the fact that they have ambient lighting, creating a relaxing atmosphere. You can nestle away upstairs or in a booth and it's quiet enough that you can enjoy each others company. I had the hot chocolate and the brie and bacon panini. The panini was very good, the cheese esp was lovely. The hot chocolate was a great size and very enjoyable. I highly recommend this cafe in Glasgow.
L. M.
Fast, efficient service delivered by friendly staff. The choice of food can be limited depending on what time you go as this place always seems busy - The cheese & onion panini (toasted) & the Victoria sponge cake were both amazing.
Coffee is strong but smooth & there is a good selection of teas, hot chocolate drinks to choose from.
R. P.
Love the cakes here. Nice coffees too and when you can sit in it's a lovely place to pass time.
C. M.
Great coffee. Great, friendly baristas. A very pleasant place to have a coffee.
J. P.
Lovely 2 floors coffee shop to sit in for a few hours. I like the taste of their coffee. Serve the bakery, ice cream, cookies and cold food as well. The staff was very friendly. Wi-Fi and toilet is available in the place. Open till 10 pm so it's a cool place for me to work on my laptop.
陳.
Popular hangout place for university staff and students. Great place to work with good.coffee and cakes. Sandwiches are good too.
I'd always have their Portuguese tart -yummy with coffee.
A good variety of seatings to choose from, bar stools, sofa, benches, proper table for a quick meal.
There is almost always a queue but they get through quite quick.
Food and service quality have been consistent over the 10 years
W.
It's a shame because this place could be so much nicer.
Staff are hit and miss, sometimes great, sometimes not so great. Once had to order the same thing three times, because the barista didn't believe what I had asked for was on the menu in front of both of us. Some of the furniture could do with a refurb, the leather chairs are falling apart.
The rest of the cafe is great. Open late, nice coffee, nice pastries too. Good place to read a book. But it could be so, so much better.
C. C.
Always a consistently good coffee and never poured too hot unlike many of the larger chains. Portuguese tarts always a winner too. Great place for a laid back coffee or somewhere to do a bit of work. Not cheap though.
E. M.
I love the interior of this place. The entirety of the space is divided into a series of separate spaces, creating a private atmosphere in what at first seemed like a very public coffeeshop.
The coffee is tasty and not as expensive as other chains.
The only drawback, in my opinion, is the self-service when it comes to cutlery, sugar and particularly milk. This causes a gap between waiter-client communication that I feel bitter about.
C. B.
Always love having the opportunity to drop by the Tinderbox. I guess you’d call it cosy in that some of the seating is quite enclosed, but it’s comfortable and private. Nevertheless, great coffee and great cakes, the staff are always friendly and welcoming and there’s Loads of seating upstairs and downstairs.
F. B.
Wow well what can I say...
I went in for a cake and left with a chocolate milkshake, a cake and a heart full of joy.
The staff were on point, the service was quick, the cafe was clean and most importantly the quality of my purchase will be unrivalled by any place in Glasgow.
You guys deserve a Nobel peace price... Great job
R.
As someone who hates coffee, I was apprehensive about meeting here to catch up and have a bite with a friend. I didn't need to be.
This place has a wide range of foods and drinks to suits anyone's tastes. We sat upstairs and the ambience was so cosy, I felt instantly comfortable and relaxed. I was put even more at ease, by the friendly and relaxed staff. I can definitely see why this would be a good place to sequester yourself with a laptop and get some work done in a good environment.
Definitely worth a try if you are in the area!
L. B.
Great selection of pastries and cakes. Also noticed a reasonable selection of sandwiches and toastie offerings. Coffee was as good as i've come to expect from Tinderbox. Service with a smile but seemed a bit slower than the West End branch, was probably just the time of day. Anyways, aye, compared to most coffee places in town this place is well worth a visit.
E. R.
A favourite place whenever I visit Glasgow, especially the Ingram St branch. Great service, good coffee/snack selection, vibrant atmosphere. Always happy to go back for more.
M. C.
Bit expensive but great coffee and even better sweets. The make the best vegan brownie ever! Would prefer if if they could be dog friendly.
A. R.
A decent coffee shop in the city centre. It has a varied menu and enough choice for non coffee drinkers like me. Very roomy and feels like the tardis as it is bigger on the inside than it actually appears. Sometimes fill of plotting Glasgow Council politicians.
K. J.
Great place to meet for a coffee, good location, nice staff. Usually quite busy and can be hard to find a seat, and a lot of the time the WiFi doesn't work, but wouldn't stop me from going.
D. K.
Very nice and spacious place to treat yourself to anything from teas and coffee to smoothies and cakes. Staff is lovely and approachable, making it a comfortable environment to read a book or come in during your University breaks.
C. Z.
I am generally a coffee shop girl, I love the smell of brewing tea and coffee💖💖!! Tinderbox is no exception. I had the much craved for quiet time to just wind down at the end of a long day and check my emails on my lappy using the free wifi, whilst enjoy a mouth-watering slice of cinnamon cake (forgot the actual name) and cappuccino. I got to stay as long as I wanted without feeling guilty about it too. Kudos Tinderbox team!!
P. S.
Nice independent-feel to the cafe, good coffee with large choice of pastries, with very friendly and efficient staff! Be warned though, despite there being lots of tables, they fill up quickly in peak times!
C. S.
The coffee is good and affordable but the food, while also nice, isn't the cheapest. The food does have a wide range of options, whether you're looking for healthy food or vegetarian or vegan, there's usually something for everyone.
W. W.
Not so bad access for wheel chair users. Coffee is great. Atmosphere quite dark sombre kind a like visiting a student pad.
R. T.
Reasonable coffee but over priced and whats with having the cakes and muffins etc displayed on the counter with no cover and customers reaching over them to pay? Particularly as the counter is high....really is an hygiene issue. Better coffee houses a plenty in the vicinity.
A. M.
Nice place but I always find Tinderboxes a little pricey for what you get. 15 quid for a sandwich, a panini and two regular drinks. Staff were nice though and the music wasn't too loud (as it often is in cafés) =]
M. M.
Excellent coffee with a few different nondairy options. Looks like the menu catered to dietary restrictions as well. Great vegan cake and other desert options!
G. C.
Lovely spicy mocha and very friendly service!
F. G.
It has been here for a while and remained consistent.
Coffee is good overall (good, not excellent...). Cakes and food are ok.
The space is great for meetings or doing some work - kind of my local office
R. A.
It's very average. The staff are friendly and they sell the usual overpriced cakes that you get in any cofree shop. Wifi is average. The place, although clean, looks a bit ramshackle. . Like its been thrown together on a tight budget. Could do with an overhaul. Much prefer the icafé along the road.
a. m.
Nice spot to stop and have a coffee
J. M.
Best coffee shop in Scotland? Without a doubt yes! Fantastic opening hours, great selection of drinks and a stylish environment to sit in. Downside is that it's a bit pricy and they charge if you use card and your order is under a certain value (£5 I think). No free wifi :(
B. N.
Great coffee and some great options for food /cake. Enjoyed a nice sit down. Friendly staff and liked the range of seating options.
S. B.
Friendly staff, a nice enough setting, a good thorough menu. I felt the venue was a little too clinically "corporate" and lacked warmth. This may be because it is in the city centre - but I felt it lacked personality.
L. E.
Clean architecture and good coffee. The Portuguese custard tarts are also worth having. The iced coffee was less sweet than other competitors but I liked that.
N. R.
The coffee here is pretty decent. This shop has a very calm and peaceful atmosphere. Plays lovely music, i could sit here for hours.
A. M.
The coffee was lovely and so was the lemon cake. However it was a bit much that 8 had to pay for it. Considering my coffee was mostly large chunks of ice.
J. C.
These people take their coffee seriously! The cafe is larger than it appears (with a mezzanine and a back room linked by a dark corridor) consequently its always possible to get a seat although sometimes hard to find friends!
C. B. (.
Great atmosphere, great coffee, cakes and food. Free wifi and lots of seats. Couldn't want more. Also has vegan or gluten free options.
P. T.
An easy place to spend an afternoon with a book/laptop - there are many tables to work from. Coffee is decent and the cakes are pretty good too.
K. B.
Coffee top notch. Good cake selection. Service friendly and fast. Toilets clean and plentiful. Lots of space. Good atmosphere.
k. m.
Always great service. Staff so welcoming. Try the white hot chocolate if you have a sweet tooth. Sit hitherto if you can
J. R.
Good service, great choice of quality food and coffee, nice place. Vegan and gluten free options available
D. N.
Lovely coffee and a nice atmosphere in the cafe. The service was a little erratic, but this was my first visit so I'm not sure how usual that is
j. f.
Great coffee and snacks, nice staff - would love to go there more but the Wi-Fi is incredibly unreliable. If they would sort that problem out I'd give it 5 stars!
C. H.
One of my fave coffee, tea, bikkie, cake shops. Good range of choices. Comfortable seating. Can be busy!
V. K.
Is a nice cozzy coffee shop that works quite late. The coffee is freshly brewed and food is good. WiFi is available, with a piano on the first floor.
G. L. F.
Lots of coffee choice. Several cakes. Sandwich and other warm food. Cost without being too lounge. Charging and WiFi available. Good café :)
W. H.
This is a great little cafe. Good selection of foods and snacks. Coffee is also very good. Staff are friendly and nice.
N. M.
Really lovely, coffee and staff were amazing. We were sitting near the back and it was a bit chilly! Apart from that it was lovely. Much bigger than what it appears outside.
W. B.
Fantastic as ever and always a great coffee whichever shop you visit 😀
O. O.
Love the pastries, my Chai and I felt welcomed. Also, free WIFI is an added plus for a tourist. Lovely coffeshop to visit in Glasgow.
R. C.
Been here 2 times now for a coffee to go and it was delicious, got the flat white both times and service was fast and friendly, would definitely recommend.
G. E.
Love the coffee and always a space to work away without heavy duty city noise. Plus...usually a vegan cake of some description!
A. V.
Excellent coffee and cakes.
J.
Great coffee, smoothies and cakes and staff. The upstairs seating is a bit rough, but really like this place
J. D.
Great coffee and snacks. Nice staff and great place to relax or sit and be productive
A. M.
If you want to feel like you're at a concert, or try and block out the existential thoughts, this is the place for you.
There are better places for coffee.
B. M.
Always great! 2nd best coffee on that street but I'm always there ;)
A. K.
I always use Tinderbox as my starting point for my Great Scottish Run Half Marathon. The place is clean and has great coffee.
J. M.
A well organised for social distancing staff make you feel safe
D. M.
Close to the best coffee in Glasgow, which is difficult given the competition. I'm picky about my coffee but I'll visit here in an heartbeat. Good spot for Merchant City and George Square.
C. S.
Friendly staff.....love the chilled out atmosphere
N. L.
Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere make it a good choice in a crowded market
N. K.
Good wee place for a meet up - excellent coffee and great selection of cakes. Staff are really nice too!
S. ç.
It's lovely. I like it this coffee. And also not expensive. Maybe I can say a little bit loud place.
L. N.
Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Coffee wasn't the most amazing, but wasn't hideous either. Can't comment on food, but their hot chocolates are plenty tasty.
L. L.
Cakes looks amazing!
R. V. V.
Fantastic espresso and really friendly staff. Great gluten free options too.
N. K.
Trendy space, lots of seating in the back and upstairs. Had a tasty cookie. They also offer vegan hot chocolate.
A. M.
Great fresh wholesome food. Lunchtime soups tasty. Coffee. a great pick me up. Place buzzing again in the evening as well
A. M.
Really bad Red Velvet cake. Chai latte was below average too.. Athmosphere was peaceful and relaxing.
C. A. M.
Great service nice selection of none coffee drinks fair price for city centre. Very good WiFi and privacy possible if working.
A. R.
Very nice coffee but quite, quite expensive. Wifi problems seem to be endless. They claim to try a new network which proudly still doesn't work.
N. C.
Quick service and helpful staff
t. m.
Nice enough. Sometimes too busy, and best visited during the day before cake selection runs down. Timing is everything 🤔
E. G. V.
Very nice coffee and the perfect environment for a business meeting or a relaxed conversation with a good friend. I love it!
S. C.
As a coffee lover all I can say is the caramel latte from here is by far one of the best in my opinion
E. D.
I always grab a coffee here before I go to my volunteering group, always a quick service, and great coffee which is the main reason haha
C. A.
Nice food and lovely staff
S. J.
Pleasant environment nice range of coffees and teas snacks and comfy chairs.
K. W.

J. M.
Coffee was lovely. Toastie was look warm. Staff too busy talking to each other..
M. D.
Cosy, friendly cafe. Staff are always welcoming and great selection of paninis, cakes and hot drinks to choose from. Always enjoy visiting
M. S.
It's nice, I only had a quick soft drink, some of chairs need repaired, staff are polite and helpful. I will go back
N. H.
Not the cheapest place, but do lovely chai lattes and very nice cakes. Also provide comfy couches and several power points.
V. C.
Nice staff, service can be slower when busy but nice atmosphere and good food and drink. WiFi is good too. So all rounder.
P. C.
Decent but unnecessarily expensive
K. B.
Lovely place. Great coffee, even better cheesecake
D. A. R. -. E. C. (. C.
Love this cafe, especially for coffee and chilled out atmosphere.
S. U. I.
Beautiful and warm welcoming
G. C.
It is a lovely coffee shop. Friendly staff and good food
b. s.
Good coffee and soup in a spacious cafe. And will visit again. Toilets could be cleaner and lacked toilet roll.
S. K.
Good coffee, but dont rely on the WiFi if you need to do work on your laptop.
P. O.
They need more than one coffee machine and the toilets need cleaned....not.my usual experience as its usually very good. Coffee was.good thought.
A. R.
Great place for students to study together with a coffee or tea...the cakes in there are to die for...it's cheap too by the way 👍👍😁
A. M.
Reduced menu, good coffee n staff nice
N. G.
Coffee is good, service is nice. A bit too dark inside and pricey.
K. C. G.
One of my go to places for catching up with mates. Good to get away from the big chain coffee stores this has a more personal touch to it.
Y. H.
Lovely coffee and friendly staff
The magic trick of guessing my name made me laugh and it was before 8am
T. L.
Busy cafe that offered a couple of vegan dessert options and also easy to access tap water.
J. C.

Cool ambience. Rustic, industrial looking place. Independent coffee place in Glasgow!

Nice space and good for meetings. WiFi has been reliably unreliable for several years though.

Nice coffee shop in the centre of town. Late opening and wide selection of food cakes :)
O. G.
Lovely coffee shop with some really nice cakes and a very central location
R. M.
Always excellent coffee with great service!
C. S.
Fantastic selection of vegan cakes and they don't charge you extra for the alternative milk
K. I.
wifi is not good. everytime i m here it never worked. they need to invest on a better network as most people come here to work.
F.
I like the vibe of this place, however I tried their iced coffee wasn’t that great so I will stick to their flat white and espresso
W. C.
Nice coffee and pleasant service, relaxed atmosphere.
D. S.
Nice coffee. Cosy place. Plastic chairs leave a bit to be desired.

M. L.
Ok
A. A.
Does a good strong cup of coffee. Has a nice selection of cakes / pastries.

'Pretty decent coffee' is harsh. I'd say the coffee is excellent and I'm a fussy git.
W. R.
Great coffee, great place for a date or a catch up with friends
M. S.
Service was okay, coffee could have been better.
J. F.
A little out of the way from city centre, roughly 10min walk. Worth it if you're looking for a place to work and have a coffee.
K. L.
Great atmosphere, very nice cake and coffee.
A. B.
Excellent place for a business or personal meeting, with great drinks/food and pleasant service, right in the heart of Glasgow.

S. G.
Great coffee and sandwich selection with plenty of healthy options. Definitely coming back.
J. L.
Really cozy place to get comfortable and enjoy a cup of coffee!
