Reviews of The Old Dairy Tearoom
C. S.
Grateful to have found such a gem of a place on a motorbike ride this Sunday. Ordered breakfast (available until 3pm) which was lovely and well presented. Also with variety for vegetarians. Friends ordered a full English which they thoroughly enjoyed, all items at brilliant prices. Lovely little setting with great food but also with warm, friendly and helpful staff who really made the place what it was. Noted as a stop to return to on future rides. Thank you!

Delicious cream tea in a lovely setting in amongst little craft shops. Very friendly and helpful waitress who also looked after our dog with water…and a sausage! Scones homemade light & tasty, plenty of clotted cream and their own blend tea was great too!
D. M.
We were made very welcome, even our muddy dog who was given a sausage. Very friendly staff and excellent food. I had home made quiche and salad and buttered new potatoes. Salad included home made coleslaw, red cabbage salad with horseradish, mixed leaf salad with the usual lettuce/tomato/cucumber etc and fresh herbs, edible flowers and more unusual leaves. Tea was loose leaves in individual pots with knitted tea cosies and pretty crockery. Excellent food, well priced, efficient friendly service. Highly recommend.

Lovely, as always.
Good food, nice people.
Had many lunches and teas here but had Sunday lunch this week, fantastic really the best roast beef dinner I've had for a long time. Staff great as always.
J. S.
Love this place, they've managed to create a quirky and nostalgic yet classic British Tearoom. Really excellent food, atmosphere and the best scones ever! Dog friendly which is a must for me and very friendly staff. I now visit regularly and bring all my friends here who come to visit. Can get busy at lunchtimes so recommend booking ahead to guarantee yourself a table.
K. M.
Still an outstanding place. Food & drinks come served in bone China plates & cups which adds that special touch. The service was outstanding & the food brilliant. very good prices too for such a small tearoom. Room outside to eat on a lovely where you can relax & enjoy the Forest of Dean scenery. I love this tea & so do a lot of other folk too so book before you visit so you're not disappointed.
J.
Excellent choice, quality and flavours of food, Amazing amount of teas etc. available. Staff attentive and helpful. Already booked to return.
M. H.
Gem of a cafe. Shouldn't really let you know as it might get too crowded. Great homemade comfort food. Love eating here. Eclectic artisan shop units too
K. J.
Lovely little tearoom tucked away at Hart's Barn. Menu features lots of local produce. Nice to sit outside and they are dog friendly too.
S. B.
Gorgeous surroundings, lovely attentive staff and very flavourful food and teas, good sized portions with a cozy little courtyard. Indoors nice with calming warm background music and a high standard of decorations and well presented tables.
M. G.
Quiet cosy place. Staff friendly.
The vegan all day breakfast, I tried is superb.
J.
My brother and I cycled here on Saturday morning, what a find! It is in a stunning setting with a lovely view from the courtyard.
Staff were lovely, the coffee's were a great size and tasted delicious. The cooked breakfast was the best I've had in ages.
I would highly recommend.
H. J.
A lovely little tea room. The cooked breakfasts were amazing, as were the cakes. Also delighted to be able to buy some local jam and honey whilst we were there - it was the perfect end to a few days away for my partner and I.
J.

This was one of our final places we visited on our trip to the general area of Herefordshire, and I both couldn't be happier we visited, but also am sad it isn't closer to home! The menu is delightful and completely delicious, and as someone who has possibly up to 100 different types of tea at home, their care with tea really made my heart sing. Everyone working there was lovely, attentive and had recommendations for places to visit as well as creating a warm and caring environment for doggy visitors. The presentation was homely, and the lavender along with the setting outside made the experience ring true to a period drama in the best way. Great times, great food, great people! Highly Recommend.

What an absolute gem of a place, tucked away in the most beautiful setting. There is literally nothing not to like about The Old Dairy Tearoom. Beautifully designed, this place is so welcoming, with lovely owners, Zoe and Jo. The delightful Lucy served us and she could not have been more friendly, patient and helpful. The menu is absolutely brilliant, varied and appeals to all tastes. It is also exceptionally reasonable. Last but not least, there is great seating both inside and out. I can't wait to go again.
M. B.
Very friendly staff and reasonable prices. Delightful Sunday lunch with beautiful crockery and attentive staff. Highly recommend this place.
L. R.
Fantastic vegan meal and really well proced for what you get, which was a great amount of vegan protein! ❤👏👏 …
J. S.
Good food and service. If you like chutney they have a good tasty range for sale, and made not so far away.
s. T.
Oh whow, what a gem hidden away and well worth the visit. Amazing place, step back in time and enjoy. Food (especially the afternoon tea) scones just the best. A wonderful treat from a friend, I will be having a few more visits 😊 guaranteed.
D.
A brilliant little tearoom with a massive dose of brilliant food of all kinds. Snacks, lunches and teas. Really lovely staff who truly care about your visit. Nice dogs are welcome too. This is an update... After a couple of years or so from my last post, it is still really very good indeed. It is best to book a table as the tea rooms will be getting very busy soon with tourists. A short update... We come here regularly and are still very happy with everything I've said before. Consistently high standards.
S. Q.
I am sure it is great if it is open. We arrived at 4 to find it closed with the chairs on the tables. With a faint smile of "Are you open?, the response came "Nah, were closed". So clearly afternoon teas are not served here.
Edit: Returned today as wife has told me not to be a curmudgeonly old git. Hunger got the better of me. Arrived at 3:15 and found the staff efficient. My sweet scone and tea first class. Wife's cheese scone far better than the local competition "Leaf". Will return!
R. P. C. C.
Absolutely delicious! I had such a lovely Afternoon Tea whilst on holiday and it was amazing! The scones were delicious, and oh my, the Millionaire Shortbread was incredible!!
The staff were so friendly, and we had a great time! 🍰 Thank you!
M. B.
Brilliant breakfast, beautifully cooked. Well worth getting out of bed for! Quaint surroundings, friendly and attentive staff, we will return.
C. K.
I wish I'd taken some photos of the food! 1st visit we had a cooked breakfast. It was delicious & HOT! 2nd time we had "afternoon tea" of sorts. The scones were lovely. Everyone there is so friendly & LOVE DOGS! There were lots of individual stores there, all selling unusual gifts. (I've started my Xmas shopping!!) Well worth both visits
A. F.
Great food, wonderful staff and a lovely place to eat.
G.
Me and my partner went here on a whim as we wanted afternoon tea. We was very pleased it is possible one of the best afternoon teas we have had. All the sandwiches and cakes are homemade. This place is dog friendly if you are looking to take your four legged friend. They even gave him some sausage as we ate. All the staff are lovely and friendly.
P. A.
Wonderful tea room in a beautiful setting. The tea and food are served on China cups and plates. Food and tea reasonably priced. My food was delicious. Free parking available and children's area.
H. B.
We booked lunch here today after a friend recommended the tearoom to us and we were not disappointed!
Our lunch was superb, everything was home made, fresh and super tasty, we really couldn’t fault a thing.
The staff were friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The tearoom itself has a quirky charm to it with a relaxed atmosphere.
We loved this quaint little place and will most definitely be returning.
M. C.
Nice relaxing pot tea and very pleasant sandwich, all freshly made. If I visit this area again, I would make a head to cafe.
N. M.
Great place, lovely staff, lovely food! My dog even got a free sausage! 😁👍 …
M. F.
This was an unexpected gem of a find, I just needed a sandwich and a cup of tea but my club sandwich was a great late lunch and with the very interesting salad made for quite a meal. Didn't have room for the carrot cake but I will sample that on my next visit which I'm hoping will be very soon. Great food, friendly staff, great location, worth searching out 🙂
M. P.
Beautiful location, great food, fantastic value for money but above all, wonderfully friendly and welcoming service. We don't live locally but will definitely come back again. Thanks so much!
F. H.
Beautiful cosy little restaurant, happy and helpful staff. The most delicious cream tea. Thank you for staying open for us.
T. H.
Just enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch. The food is always lovely here. It's a cosy atmosphere, the food is always good, the staff are all friendly and helpful, and there's always a polite welcome from Oscar the resident dog. If you're just in for a cuppa there's a great range of teas and coffee, plus very tempting cakes.
l. r.
Wonderful food the quality is outstanding and service is great. Lovely place to visit set in Harts Barn Longhope.
A.
Lovely tea room. Good food at normal prices, lovely location, very attentive service and a bonus that they love well behaved dogs ( sausage treats for them ) book your table and enjoy!!!
C. M. G.
Recommended by Google, The Old Dairy Tearoom is very relaxing and a good location for cooked breakfast and a cream tea.
Staff were very friendly & helpful.
A large selection of home made cakes is also available.
C. L.
Well organised social distancing and excellent service. Coffee and cake in mid morning and a full English breakfast for a late lunch after a long walk in the woods. Will no doubt visit again when my wife wants another ukulele from the Uke Shop next door.
Z. W.
Lovely food and atmosphere. Recommended for a visit.
T. M.
Beautiful cafe with great staff and amazing food. Had the cream tea with a beautiful local Chepstow Brie and Cranberry sandwich followed by a Scone and Bownie which were beautifully presented and great quality. The teashop to visit if your in the Forest of Dean.
M. N.
Such a lovely atmosphere.
Friendly staff.
Great breakfast.
And dogs are very welcome!
J. B.
Quaint country tea room with a wide variety of lunches and afternoon teas. They have a good selection of herbal and black teas as well as locally made juices and ice cream.
G. M.
Stunning tea room in a beautiful setting. Welcoming & friendly staff that were happy to accommodate our fussy order. Delicious food & drink along with a fantastic menu. So glad we discovered this place!!! Wil absolutely be back to try the cake & ice cream!
I. R.
Friendly, traditional, outdoor seating with adjoining craft and local foods shops A nice little hidden gem - seek it out.
T. K.
We booked a table for a traditional family Afternoon Tea and it could not have been a better choice. The ability to choose what to have for each course, the proper loose leaf tea options and the flexibility of options for our children were second to none. This is a special place and worth a stop whatever time of day. Just note that it is quite small so booking ahead is sensible for more popular occasions.
Y. F.
Visited the Old Dairy Tearoom after nearly 4 months of lockdown. They have great Covid precautions in place so we felt safe. Great service and the first salmon sandwich for 3 months. It was excellent...followed by a delicious ice-cream. Wonderful location too
A.
Last time I visited Harts Barn there was just a studio here. What a 💎 venue. Excellent food. Good service. Dogs allowed. Good selection of teas. Character in abundance. Jazz music sets an ambient atmosphere. Will make this place a regular. Bringing my friend tomorrow. She will luv it! …
W. D.
Sunday roast was lovely and there was plenty of sides (veg) to go round the four of us. Just one slight issue, we were all quite cold as they tend to leave the doors open. Please close the doors when you have diners in as cold food and drinks are not so good.
M. J.
Small tea room on an interesting shopping area in the forest of Dean with some craft and home ware shops. Excellent food and service, great breakfasts and lunches - rarebit, fish cakes, chicken pie; lovely tea and coffee selection, great puddings and fabulous cakes. Afternoon tea excellent. Booking is advised because they get busy about 1pm onwards...
J. O.
Not a lover of the 50's....but friendly staff and lovely food!
D. S.
What a hidden gem!
Found this cafe by chance on the way home from a mini break in the Forrest of Dean. It's a lovely old fashioned tea rooms set in a courtyard of crafts and a cookery school. Very pleasant, efficient staff, nice surroundings and a first class breakfast breakfast which is excelkent value for money. Shame we live 200 miles away or we would become regulars.
C. H.
This tearoom serves an unusually wide range of tea types, also available to purchase. Good selection of cakes and hot food. Cheerful staff, although service a little slow. Prices about average. Access not easy for disabled folk, as there is a short, but steep slope to the tearoom and the disabled spaces are about 50 yards away.
S. H.
Great unique place. Whether just light refreshments or a full meal. Either way it always good quality even the vegetarian food is tasty 😋 …
N. A.
We had a delightful cream tea here, generous, delicious and very reasonably priced, with quaint atmosphere as you'd expect from a good tearoom, and welcoming staff. Well worth the visit!
L. L.
Lovely welcome and dog friendly. Gorgeous cream strawberry tea.
This is our third visit this year, lovely cream tea as usual. Dylan always enjoys his sausage. Thank you for your hospitality.

A wonderful Sunday afternoon lunch. We had two sandwiches and two scones, they were bloody gorgeous! Zoe and her staff were excellent!
I. B.
Located in the craft Barn our cream tea wa excellent. The Staff were really friendly and went out of their way to fond all seven of us a table. The Scones were terrific with no after taste u sometime8s get all in all we had a great time Thank You.
A. L.
Slightly slow service - relaxed rather than bad. Dont go if you are in a rush. But if you have the time for a relaxed meal would absolutely reccomend. Beautiful selection of savory and cakes as well as a wide variety of drinks and ice cream. Most meals can be served as a GF option, and most ice creams are GF as well. There are a few vegan options.
J. R.
Really enjoyed a visit here. Didn't know it existed until my friends brought me along. They had green tea which was great the food is lovely and the setting beautiful.
I would book in advance to avoid disappointment as it can be busy at weekends and days when the weather is looking pretty damn fine.
T. F.

A cafe in the Hart's Barn complex. We had tea and a nice slice of cake sitting in the sun in the outdoor area. The main indoor area though not large is a pleasant area and there is a range of snacks and meals that would provide a good lunch.
B. G.
Food excellent, lovely surroundings. Highly recommend a visit. Some nice little shops and a great farm store.
C. L.
One of my favourite places to meet up with friends. The food is scrumptious and the staff are wonderful.

Lovely afternoon tea ( homemade everything ) in an oldie worldwide barn/ tea room. Thought we were in war time as the music and China cups set the seen.

Traveling back from Kent to Merthyr and decided on a more scenic route for a break. What a wonderful craft centre, we had been in the past. The tea Room first class, quality and service top notch. Soup and scones was to die for. Must pop back in the near future.
L. B.
Lovely, fresh, thick-cut bread and generous fillings; giant, warm-from-the-oven scones with proper clotted cream and jam; loose leaf tea in pots with hand-knitted tea cosies; charming music and pretty crockery - and a friendly dog named Oscar. Best afternoon tea in the Forest.
T. s.
