D. W.Only met for a coffee at Planet Coffee. Very friendly staff. Lovely to sit outside in the sun on a busy Avenue. Toilets on first floor which might be a problem for those less able. Very clean.

As far as coffee spots go, the Planet is up there with some of the best. Back in the day, this was my 'go-to' for a bowl of caffeine & I'm glad to say that 4/5 years later, it hasn't changed.
* I say bowl because the cups for the Supersized Latte's are still HUGE! Certainly one way to give yourself 'the buzz'. Plus, they come with a Flake too, which kinda gives you that fetish for ice cream. Good job Cafe Gelato's just 30 secs away 😂
What's more, I think the guys (& gals) who work here must have a photographic memory. After 5 years, they somehow still recognise me. Not sure if I just have one of 'those faces', or it has something to do with how fast I filled up those loyalty cards.
Sorry guys - pretty sure I'm the reason they've packed that in 😐
But yeah - should you be in need of a caffeine boost & Newland Ave isn't far away, then you'd be balmy not to make the Planet your next pitstop, especially if you're a coffee connoisseur! Excuse the Dad-joke, but for caffeine, this place really is out of this world 👾

I had coffees in York and Scarborough in the same week of my holidays and none compared with Planet Coffee. I will be back.

P.A wonderful independent coffee shop in the hearth of Newman's Avenue. It offers A wide selection of coffees, tea's, hot chocolates, soft drinks, cakes l, pannini's and snacks. With both indoor and outdoor seating areas which are wheelchair and pram accessible.
The staff are friendly and polite which is why it has been my usual 'watering hole' for years!!

Would have enjoyed my visit more if there had been more than one GF cake option (a sickly choc cheesecake is not enough to bring me back soon) and if the music had been less awful (Toploader and Vonda Shepherd - no thanks). Note: my tea was not very hot and after adding a small amount of milk it was lukewarm so had to drink quickly before it went cold.
Ok place if you need a quick drink after shopping but not somewhere I would choose to go again if I had the choice.

W.Brilliant range of drinks that are all really tasty, I personally go for a white hot chocolate with either cherry, orange or raspberry flavour shots added 😋 the cakes have a range that changes most days so you can always try something new and there are also vegan and gluten free options for these as well which means I can meet up with anyone there. They also stay open till 8 which is great for a coffee shop and means that I can meet with friends after work.

S. B.Planet Coffee shop was, I think, the first coffee shop on Newland and was established because the coffee craze started.
It has an excellent range of drinks and food. The staff are always friendly.
The seating is excellent with most of it being on large sofas with a large table in front of you. If you like watching the world go by, you can sit at the window and gaze out onto Newland Ave
It also has an outside seating area, which is always busy during the summer

The guys who run it are lovely, my Nana in law Sheila visited every single day before she passed away and they treat her like royalty, she loved them to bits.

L. H.Magnificent the staff were fab. I had a pumpkin hot chocolate i chose from maybe twelve or more types of hot chocolate. I all so had a cherry flapjack. Very nice I'm going soon.
S. D.Had a delicious Yorkshire brew and Gluten free strawberry cheesecake here. Wait staff were lovely and totally understanding of my coeliac disease, they washed their hands on my request, steamed the plate as a extra safety measure for me and provided excellent table service. I was really impressed, I try to live a lifestyle with zero gluten intake and I feel absolutely fine afterwards, thank you so much! Definitely worth a visit.

Uni-land so parking can be awkward, Newland itself 1 or 2 hrs max.
S. R.All show unfortunately. The coffee was tasteless, not at all like I remember from when it first opened. If I was being cruel I would say that cheap instant made at home would save you money and give a better experience but it wasn't quite that bad.

Now been a few more times and things seem to have improves, coffee was more flavoured, cakes/snacks improved and staff much more friendly.
