Reviews of Senbon Sakura Cafe & Japanese Kitchen
A. D.
Cozy little cafe for some nice sushi..
Wasn't really happy with the service, as the lady at the till had messed up our order and instead of giving our correct dish just said, we just haven't added chilli flakes that's is why our ramen looked plain and gave us some raw chilli powder. Salmon tempura is something I wouldn't recommend, if you are a tempura fan. Try mixed vegetables and prawn tempura, as these are much nicer than salmon ones. I think I would go back here only for sushi and nothing else. Bento is there other branch in Leeds and I definitely chose to go ther instead of Senbon Sakura, as both service, quality of presentation and food itself is better at Bento...

Went out for dinner and my boss chose here. It was brilliant the food was lovely and the staff were attentive and helpful. We had a selection of starters which tasted lovely. And my upon noodles were amazing. I don't live in Leeds but would recommend a visit to this casual restaurant. Really enjoyed it. Additionally all staff had face masks on.

Eaten and ordered from Senbon many times in the past, always been good reliable Japanese food at a reasonable price. The food can occasionally fall flat in flavour and it may not be food you find particularly mindblowing but for consistently decent Japanese food I would definitely recommend this as one of the better places in Leeds. The staff are also particularly friendly and the restaurant has a warm and cosy atmosphere.
J. N.
Service was great. Prices were great. Food was also pretty good.
V. Y.
Good japanese food and atmosphere was great, there was japanese music playing on the background ✨
The only thing I didn’t like was that on the sushi was mayonnaise on top. Maybe it should go separate.
B. K.
The food was hot and fresh! But the service was lacking. We'll probably go back but next time we know you'll need to flag someone down to get service, etc.
D. B.
I absolutely love this gem of a place. This is the closest you will get to eating in a genuine Japanese/okinawan eatery. Despite it not being Japanese! It's Japanese food. K pop on the screens and not Japanese speaking staff. So it's Asian fusion to be more exact. But it's so good. The food is top notch. And very reasonable prices. Two people can stuff themselves with lunch for around 25 pounds.
As in most Asian restaurants don't expect immaculate cleanliness or a decent toilet and you won't go wrong. Great place.
J. L.
We dropped in for dinner at around 6.30pm on a Tuesday, the premises are cosy and thematically decorated with paper lanterns and . K-pop and J-pop playing on a screen over the bar, the sushi (california, salmon and Avocado aramaki/temaki) and fried appetisers (squid rings, prawn tempura, chicken gyoza) were fantastic. The service was excellent, prompt, efficient and friendly, the waiting staff were highly attentive and the food was brought out quickly and piping hot! The only minor quibbles were that the katsu curry had slightly more anise than my wife prefers and the children were luke-warm about their beef wok udon. My Senbon Sakura Udon was delicious with a caramelised barbecue aroma and great depth of flavour.
Price was on the higher side but we did order a lot of food and took home lunch for the next day.
Would highly recommend.
f. a.
Pretty nice, the price is good for the taste and amount, the ingredients and decorations are what made me love the place
R. R.
Amazing little place, stopped by on a work trip and was really impressed (and also surprised it isn't more highly rated). The takoyaki and okonomiyaki in particular were exceptional, with ample bonito flakes. The service was faultless, super friendly and fast (also very welcoming of solo diners). It's got real character, I loved the ambience and decor. Would highly recommend this little gem and will definitely be back to sample more of the extensive menu.
A. L.
Nice little place with very good Japanese food. The curry was just how I remember Japanese curry tasted like. Will definitely visit again.

Takeaway version🌟Chicken Katsu Curry🍛 + Takoyaki 💗
Delicious rice & Solid Takoyaki. The only thing I wish more is the actual curry sauce.
All in all, this is just my second try of the restaurant, but I would say I’m confident in trying out new dishes from them. 😋
A. R. A.
Amazing food option, real & authentic. Highly recommended
B. T.
Food was ok not super authentic but not bad for a local place. Run by a friendly Chinese team.
T. B.
The food was divine, the staff were amazing, great place, authentic feel .
Will be going again.
M. R.
Excellent little restaurant
Friendly staff, great choice of fresh sushi
Hot food also excellent
Has been consistent since opening. Still 9ne of my fav restaurants 8n Leeds
H. S. A.
Been going here for couple of years.it has a consistent and friendly service. Cozy setting without any frills. Good food for the price.
P. M.
Our first visit here - excellent food (chicken fried rice & chicken katsu curry), good service & the food arrived quickly. No complaints at all - lovely grub & I'm sure we'll visit again 😊
C. _.
Nice sushi and sashimi and soft shell crab was the best. Edamame beans and kimchi very small portion. Unfortunately for the amount of 80£ of sushi that we ordered there was no bonus treat or even enough soy sauce, just a little pot. Cucumber sushi was not nice and octopus sashimi was not the best.
S. K.
The food was amazing and full of taste! There's vegan and vegetarian options too along side with meat & fish option's. Food was quick, hot and fresh. Staff very nice and helpful. Will definitely return. Worth the travel through 😀🔥
r.
A cute little place with excellent efficient service and very good food. Portions were large and very tasty! Definitely would recommend!
I. d. f.
The sushi is really good and fresh. The soups are bland, have no flavours, is litterally a watery broth. I understand international cousin is trying to adapt to the British palat but a bowl of ramen shoyod have full flavour.
T. J.
Stopped by on a whim and was really surprised at how intense and delicate the flavours were. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Went back again and was just as pleased. Definitely my go-to Japanese restaurant in Leeds.
G. T.
Simple surroundings but really good food &efficient. Highly recommend. Great price excellent value for money.
К. К.
Just ordered a delivery in Deliveroo. The order came very quickly, unsurprising though, because the sushi don’t look fresh at all.
Price is good and sushi seems tasty, but I hope the fish was fresh.
P.
The food's nice and delivery is usually pretty prompt, although quality-wise it can be a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes the food is great, other times the exact same dishes are fairly poor (e.g. tough meat in the katsu). No idea why the variation in quality is so high.
F. S.
Relatively cheap as quick lunch, could work on quality.
Senbon Sakura has been around for a while. One of many Japanese culinary establishments in Leeds. Conveniently located outside LGI, this compact restaurant serves a partial/simplied menu for lunch and a full menu for dinner. Service is generally quick and food items fairly low priced. We ordered sushi and noodle soup. The sushi came pre-packaged, the rice felt rough and aged, content was worse - could not chew the avacado as it was too hard! The soup was overly salty. Better options elsewhere in the same price range.
F. J.
Well done guys. Consistent service..friendly and authentic. The food is fresh and always tasty. For an authentic feel of Japanese atmosphere and good food at affordable prices I recommend you try.
J. D.
Been here for lunch several times and it's always been lovely. Great food at a great price with friendly service.
R. C.
Wow what a fantastic place to eat, no rush dinning, only a small shop but the menu and food was delicious, plenty to choose from, would absolutely go again
S. N.
Service was quick. The salmon sushi roll was okay. The miso ramen with roast pork was tasty. Pickled ginger is not free.
d. 2.
Incredible food, photos don't do the food justice, so flavourful and great value
B. M. A. A.
Excellent, great food, great prices, great staff. 100% will return and recommend to everyone.
S. H.
Great food, lovely restaurant and friendly staff. Will definitely visit again.
G. H.
Friendly staff and amazing food!
J. H.
Friendly staff but they seemed to be unfamiliar with the food their restaurant served. The guy sent a dish to our table but it was supposed to be delivered to the other table. Tempura was served with wrong dip and corrected when realised. The worst part should be their Japanese Green Tea, a must-try if you have no idea how shower water tastes like. The green tea here is not freshly made, the tea is loose tea leaves infused in a French press ahead of time for all tables (a great combination!), which means the tea you get could be the left-over from other tables. You never know how many times the tea pot get refilled before your cup, which is so frustrating :(
Last visit was about three years ago and their Japanese curry made me stop visiting them for about three years. This green tea issue shows the idea how the owner runs the restaurant. I’ll not revisit this place again 👍🏻
L. C.
Good sized portions, well priced and cosy interiors. For a Thursday evening with a few tables filled service was not that attentive.
A. L.
Is really a good place to have a taste of Japanese cuisine. It may not be the best but it still beats most place I have tried around Leeds, even more expensive places. Highly recommended :)
S. T.
Really good food and drinks selection. Service was quick and I liked the atompshere a lot. I would reccomend the sushi in particular
D. F.
Absolutely stunning food. Hidden away a little, but a definite jewel of a place. We will definitely be going back again. Customer service, prices, food all outstanding
S. R.
Wonderful food always. Will visit again definitely.
S. C.
Amazing service and amazing food. Absolutely loved the place 💕💕
X. X.
fantastic place, nice service, I recommend tempora and hand roll, all the foods are fresh and delicious.
Hope you enjoy the time there
J. F.
Food was delicious, the music was chill with a mix of japanese and korean songs, the aesthetics were quite nice and the staff were friendly too!
O. P.
Really good food and an amazing selection on the menu! Food tastes really good. I'd say the food is a tiny bit expensive, but I'd still go back again!
H. O.
Good prices for quality of food, could do with a little more noodles than vegetables but still delicious enough for future visits
10% off bill for LUUHKSOC students 👍🏻
P. M.
Delicious food, very friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Definitely recommended! 👍
L. D.
Very nice food, great service, reasonable price
I. B.
The Tonkotsu donburi was lovely! Super crispy and the meat was very tasty. The Unagi Donburi was amazing, the eel was so fatty (in a great way) that it melt in my mouth. On a cold day, I really recomendo the Yuzu tea. The starter was a Takoyaki, which was good, but nothing exceptional
J. H.
I was on a work trip a few weeks ago and this restaurant was recommended to me. The sushi was amazing (especially the coriander seared tuna sashimi). The staff were really lovely and the decor was so nice inside! Will definitely be returning.
D. S.
Great little Japanese cafe, waitresses were attentive and polite and the food was amazing
R. M.
Really friendly staff. Great food. Very quick with take away orders
D. B.
Extraordinary vibes and super personal service. The menu was crisp and yummy. Will easily recommend this place to others. Convenient prices and large portions. Great work.
R. J.
We went today as a family and all the staff were incredibly friendly and inclusive. Although we weren't Chinese like the majority of the customers and staff, we were still welcomed like equals and given proper attention. The vibe is so relaxing and comfortable in the cafe. This may be unrelated but the table sizes were big which I absolutely loved - you had decent space to do work or fit many meals on. The portion sizes were large and the food was authentic. By far the best Chinese restaurant I've been in. The decorations were also soo beautiful, I loved the cherry blossoms they had on the ceilings, it truly makes the place seem even more charming than it already is. The staff in particular were SO polite and friendly, they all waved us bye and conversed in smalltalk with us regularly, especially two of the waiters. Would definitely recommend to my friends.
M. R.
The place is a bit hidden , close to LGI. We have gone there for a family meal because someone recommended for us. If you like Japanese food then this is the place to go, service is great, we were really looked after. It is nothing fancy, the place itself is very simple. The food is nicely presented, fresh and big portions. The value for money is excellent, we had 6 adults and 1 young child: everyone had their own starters, some starters to share and mains, some soft drinks and the total bill was £89!
L.
Loved it. Yummy food for a decent price, service was quick, guy on the till was polite and helpful. Pleasantly decorated with a good, casual atmosphere.
K. F.
Stop here for tea with family. Nice atmosphere and staffs extremely friendly. Food was just about ok, more like takeaway style Japanese food which all are simplest ingredients.
J. S.
I loved this place. Went for a quick dinner after work. Initially unsure as it looked pretty empty but we were treated to some fabulous food. I'm just sad I didn't take any photos as it was well presented too! The staff were all very friendly, the price is cheap for the quality you get- and even normally. For £27 we got 2 starters, 2 mains and unlimited black rice tea.
We had vegetable tempura which were deep-fried crispy goodness without the veg losing their crunch or being greasy. We also had some octopus balls, served with some incredible sauces and what I believe was smoked garlic shavings (unbelievably good).
My friends know that I'm hard to please when it comes to dining out, but I wasn't disappointed with Senbon Sakura. Can't wait to go back!
N. P.
Fantastic food! Well priced and a lovely attentive staff. I ate here multiple times for dinner during my stay in Leeds as my accommodation was close by. I always felt welcomed. The food was absolutely beautiful, the seafood incredibly fresh. I would recommend the salmon/tuna donburi.
L. F.
Brilliant little place, excellent food, loved plum wine and saki. Would deffinetly stop here again to eat and relax. Restaurant type, casual.
J. W.
Some of the best Japanese food I've had in Leeds. Particular favourites are the katsu chicken and the chicken teriyaki. The staff are all friendly and happy to recommend dishes.
S. W.
The food was tasty and hot. Service was quick. Canteen atmosphere. Staff very friendly. However, there were lots of flies. Would have given 4 stars, knocked 1 off because of the flies.
M. F.
Very good value for the money! The curry is lovely and the meats are all very soft and tender
J. J.
This was the best Japanese food I have had in the five years that I have lived in Leeds. The food was ordered from Just Eat. It arrived in a timely manner, was neatly packed, and still warm. Would recommend highly.
d. w.
Great staff, great food. Asked them to write a little happy graduation for my gf and they were more than happy to oblige. Love these guys
M. S.
Sushi and the bento box was good. Didnt like the curry i ordered. It was wierd because i ordered and got a message saying that the food would get delivered in 45 mins but it took about 15 mins to get delivered. It takes about 10mins to get from the restaurant to my house. Maybe thats why the dumplings looked like they were a day old.
m. w.
Food was lovely. Toilets not so lovely. Though will definitely visit again to try more of the menu.
S. B.
Don't normally leave reviews but been here 5-6 times now and each time has been as good as the last. Food always quick, great quality. Staff are so respectful and lovely. Ordered both to pick up and take home and to sit in. Never had a bad experience. Will return many times.
S. M.
We have been to Sebon Sakura for dinner and we had an amazing sushi! We actually ordered too much for our stomach because we didn't know that the portions are quite big! The staff was very friendly and every time we need something they were ready to help us as soon as possible. We also ordered a typical Japanese sweet and it was very good! The waiter was happy to help us to decide what plates and sweets take explaining us how they were made etc.... We were really satisfied and definitely we'll come back!
c. v.
Good quality food, good value, nice decor and fast service.
U.
Delicious, cheap and filling!
(Lunchtime) The tofu in the tofu katsu curry is amazing, it's really soft and fresh and batter fried to perfection. The curry it's self is very comforting and tasty and a great portion for £5! Lots of veggie options, will definitely come back.
C. C.
Favourite restaurant in Leeds. Value for money and lovely staff. Sushi (and everything else) is amazing. Have never had a disappointing meal and we've eaten here on at least 6 occasions.
J. N.
Great sushi and noodles and not too expensive. Asahi on draught!
M. F.
I m have been to many Japanese restaurants around the UK and sushi in particular is my fav Japanese food. This cosy restaurant serves THE best sushi in Leeds. Great environment and super friendly staff. Food is reasonably priced and service is quick. Restaurant is clean and plenty of staff to look after you at all times. Caring owner who has pride in what they do which shows on their plate.
D. S.
Me and my girlfriend love their chicken teriyaki with egg fried rice. They cook it perfectly, and the flavour and taste are amazing. Really recommend them. Our favourite Japanese place to eat in Leeds !
R. C.
Ordered from here before, the shared box is so much smaller than it was before. Stopped doing the larger one. Disappointed with the small amount of food.
T. W.
Great place for a quick lunch! I get the Katsu curry with fried rice. Only £6 and it's a huge piece of chicken, lots of rice and plenty of sauce.
You can get steamed rice for 50p less.
They have it ready in about 2 minutes so you can walk in, pay and walk out in 5 minutes with ease. Friendly staff too!
1.
Amazing food, huge menu, staff very nice and prices great
P. H.
Food was great 10/10 and the staff are great 👍
C. S.
The lunch menu is limited to sushi bentos and a few noodle and rice dishes. However the full evening menu is surprisingly authentic and comprehensive. The katsu donburi bowl was especially good. Weirdly some of the dishes come with a distinctly chinese twist to them, but when you get the truly Japanese stuff it’s really spot on.
The place itself is decent enough. I’d recommend getting a table away from the entrance as the door seems to stick open, which is horrid in winter.
C. S.
I tried the vegetable tempura ramen with miso base and soba noodles. The tempura was delicious, crispy and fresh with light batter- most authentic I've had outside Japan. The miso broth was really mild tasting so I'd try something else next time. My husband had the tonkatsu curry and it was tasty and hearty. The portions are a good size and the prices are extremely reasonable. Good quality Japanese home style curry, can't wait to go back and try a few other items. I'd return on the merit of the tempura alone, I wish they offered a veg tempura set instead of just the fish one (am not vegetarian or anything I just really like vegetable tempura!)
C. A. F.
Excellent and informal favorite eating place for many of the hospital staff. Sensibly priced and equipped to provide for the most choosy of diets from vegan to carnivorous. The noodle soups are great. Check for opening hours.
A. H.
Amazing food, tasted great, huge portions, amazing staff and loved the TVs at the front. Prices really good for the food, would definitely come again. :)
D. H.
Really good venue for noodle soup. The portion is substantial and a great healthier option for lunch packed full of fresh vegetables too. The soup is so good I've never tried anything else from the menu!
A. B.
Had a meal for 6 on a Friday. We did starters and mains. I wasn't expecting the meals to arrive so randomly. Food was OK. mains were better than starters and the miso soups were ordinary.
I.
Very nice Japanese food, tasty Takoyaki I just wish there were more on the plate! The bento boxes were lively and flavourful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking some great Japanese food in Leeds.
B. S.
Have been dining-in/take-away from this restaurant for almost 2 years and was never disappointing. Top quality sushi rolls and ramen in Leeds
T. M.
I eat in this restaurant quite a bit! This is my favorite place to eat. I go to this spot frequently. The cooking is of high quality, the team is professional and the prices are fair. I like being in this spot for a tasty dinner.
M. Z.
Love going to this place. Simply great food and reasonably priced. Not a confusing menu and helpful staff. Please please please just renovate the toilet.
S. W.
Great food quality at affordable prices. Food proportions are excellent and filling. Staff are friendly and service is quick. Strongly recommend.
C. Z.
Google mistake: They close at 2pm for the afternoon!!
Lunch eat in is a super good value! Food is great. But they only have like 6 lunch items Japanese style (Katsu curry, teriyaki and the like). Sushi is ONLY for dinner as is the rest of their online Japanese menu.
J.
Wonderful staff & delicious food
O. S.
Likely the closest thing you can get to authentic Ramen. Pork bone broth is fabulous and the ramen noodles will always keep me coming back. Sushi is decent too! Always pay a visit if you're leeds way.
M. M.
Great little (not so well kept secret) restaurant. Amazing food, with a great variety of Japanese foods. They also serve westernised, though very very good sushi (the size of the pieces are huuugggee!). V tasty. Also v much enjoyed the Japanese curries on offer. If you need a quick bit for.lunch the bento boxes are great !! Very much recommend a visit !
F. A.
Good sushi restaurant in Leeds.
The location is no bad, the waiting time is ok.
The prices are normal and the sushi is not very tasty.

Great food. Never disappointed with the quality. Cafe style (bit chilly) place to eat, unlicenced to sell alcohol. Price reflects quality.

E. P.
Very affordable and tasty restaurant although sometimes they forget parts of your order. Still should try the food in this place though.
C. G.
Quite tasty, good looking restaurant, but tea and some of the chefs were not so "japanasese". And wasabi wasn't strong enough for me. Still really liked it :)

Food is okay, their gyu tastes great, tempura, pork katsu and ramen was mediocre

Good takeaway. Shame they don’t give wasabi with the sushi which should be standard. Even when we made a big order.

It says it's a cafe, byt the selection is not too big. Green tea is great, brown rice tea is amazing as well.

(Translated) Japanese restaurants in Leeds near campus are recommended in my opinion. There is a vegetarian menu, and the ramen is tasty. But there are some things that I think are somewhat lacking. Ie, the chili provided is less spicy, and then the lady who is serving is lacking smile and seems to be in a hurry to serve, even though at that time we were the only ones ordering. So when my food was ready he just put it on the front desk and asked me to come take it. But some of my friends have their food delivered too ... So it's not clear how the service model is. About the price of around £ 5-7 per portion ... And the portions are large ... So it fits

Jadi seperti kurang jelas model pelayanannya. Soal harga sekitar £5-7 per porsi.. Dan porsinya besar.. Jadi cocok lah
