Reviews of Granite's Coffee Shop
R. P.
Lovely setting, never even knew it was here. Left it a little late in the day to visit but most definitely will be returning for a nice stroll around the grounds. The cafe also serves my favourite St.Martins coffee too although the tea does come up a little short in the strength department.
K. S.
Fabulous place! Excellent food and drinks, very friendly staff. The whole area is extremely well thought out - the museum displays, the walking areas, the outdoor cafe seating... All showing Mountsorrel and its history to the full.
S. H.
Very nice setting service good a bit more expensive than other cafes but then you are supporting the infrastructure woodland walks etc.
C. M.
Loverly place to visit with younger kids or just anyone who likes to watch old trains.
The cafe was excellent, staff friendly and food was much better than I would have expected
G. L.
Nice cafe with lovely cakes also as a heritage centre and paths for nice walks
N. W.
Had a wonderful lunch celebrating Mums birthday The food was delicious and the surroundings are lovely. Also very conscious of covid-19 with decent measures in place PPE sanitisers and the NHS track and trace QR code.
S. S.
Lovely cafe. Lovely food. Lovely staff.
J.
Lovely place. Great coffe, great homemade cakes, in great surroundings. Highly recommended.
R. F.
Had a quick impromptu trip here for a snack and drink. Enjoyed a lovely sandwich with side salad and crisps while my partner had a huge warm sausage roll with salad and coleslaw. A skinny latte and a pot of tea ensured we are sorted for the afternoon. Enjoyed a walk round some of the trails afterwards and thoroughly enjoyed our time there :-)

Lovely place for food but although they say dogs are allowed on the patio I was admonished for walking through the cafe to get onto the patio with my 2 Small dogs!
There is a gate to the right of the main entrance signed as the entrance for dogs but the gate was padlocked. I tried to get someone's attention from the main door way to ask how I could get in with the dogs, they were very busy so I was unable to. As a last resort I walked quickly through the cafe to the patio which took about 5 seconds and caused no disruption to anyone. I was then approached by a staff member and told off for doing this. When I explained why I had done it she pointed out another gate which is for dogs. This gate is not signposted at all from the car park and front entrance, you have to walk out of the car park and either cross the road to a bridal way or walk on the side of a fairly busy road to get to it! Unless you are a regular they don't allow you to use the gate near the main entrance! I don't how I was supposed to know this? I would suggest that they put proper signage up to direct first time users on how to gain access with dogs. I would have given this place five stars if not for the way I was spoken to.

First time in this eaterie won't be the last..!! We went for the days special of sausage casserole in a Yorkshire pudding ..absolutely delicious 😋 we also enjoyed the two rooms of Mountsorrel's history in the heritage rooms.. 👍 excellent..!!
G. W.
Great local attraction, perfect to teach kids about steam trains.
A. S.
We love coming to this coffee shop! Lovely staff who are very helpful & like to give great customer service. With extra things to do than just tea & cake, it's a great place to visit
A. M.
Nice place, but the coffees are a little bit milky.
R. Z.
Lovely place to have a drink and food as well as walking around the Railway Museum. They can do better on their cakes as they where a bit on the dry side!
J. S.
Lovely location. Easily accessible. Friendly staff. Great coffee and cakes!
C. C.
Lovely coffee shop with attached local museum. Also acts as gateway to wider site which includes an outdoor model railway, ice cream shack, woodland walks, den building area, kids playground, railway museum, railway platform, memorial garden and plant nursery. Wonderful local attraction, one of our favourites.
J. M.
A lovely coffee and lunch spot... We visit frequently
C. G.
This coffee shop is great. It is part of a volunteer run area which also features (among other things): a railway station, railway sheds (with steam engines and carriages), a woodland trail, a picnic area, various information notices, crazy golf, model trains, and a den building area. The quality of the drinks is high, as is the cakes. You have a limited choice of meals too. Be aware the prices are not cheap, but for what you get they are reasonable. Worth a visit just for tea and cake, but you could also spend much longer, especially if you have children.
I. M.
Used to be a pleasant experience. If you like nice coffee and a good selection of cakes (plus other foods) this is the place to go. They play some groovy 80's music in the background. But watch some of the staff/servers, they can be a tad grumpy...not nice when you least expect it.
P. J.
A clean, fresh, open environment with countryside views overlooking woodland. A nearby trail offers a gentle walk free of dogs and a play area for young children. In side there is a fascinating Heritage centre that's worth a visit. All this in addition to excellent coffee, tea and other refreshments and mouth watering snacks served by the most friendly and helpful staff. If you haven't already enjoyed a visit, it's a "must do" and if you are already familiar with Granite then you will appreciate this review.

omg what lovely place and friendly staff and good service
M. G.
Good selection of cakes and snacks. Ample seating inside and out. All Covid procedures adhered to. Staff pleasant. Ideal place to meet friends after exploring the heritage centre.
f.
Lovely cafe, friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of jacket potatoes, panini's and toasted sandwiches, also lovely cakes! Good options for gluten free. Good sized carpark.
L. P.
Great gluten free scones! Just a shame there isn't a section of the cafe inside where you could sit with a dog. Maybe just the tables to the left of the door could be dog friendly if dogs on leads and well behaved?
C. S.
Good coffee and drinks. We have sent a lot of friends and family here for the cream tea occasions who have all reported how nice it is.
The day-to-day food offerings are overpriced, simplistic and small affairs. I recently bought some of the cake (same cake for two people) at a premium price to take home as a carry-out recently. I was very disappointed with the vastly differently sized cake slices on opening the wrapper at home. I'd say it was due to an inexperienced, young member of staff serving but for the premium charged... Keep a watchful eye!
M. N.
Lovely place, well worth a visit
A. S.
Nice and clean bit very expensive and some staff not too friendly. We had 3 soups and 3 sandwiches, two teas and a can of Pepsi and it was over £30. Sandwiches had margarine in them, not butter. If we wanted salad and crisps it would have been £2.10 extra each. We had to sit outside as we had a puppy with us.
P. N.
Relaxing and friendly venue with a lovely selection of cakes and various ice creams. Outside dog friendly area is pleasant but has rural aromas coming from a local digester, which can be off-putting to some. Plenty of parking and disabled facilities with an attached museum.
L. S.
Popped in after a lovely walk around the park - generous pots of strong tea, a lovely cake selection and impressive range of icecream flavours (including dairy free) - cafe was buzzing with visitors, counter service was quick, staff were friendly and it was a *wonderful* experience for me, sister and two children. Definitely pop in if you're in the area - whether for a snack, a drink or a wander.
B. b. “.
What a fantastic place ! There's lots of lovely food to choose from and locally made. There's plenty of things to see and do for the kids so well worth a visit Indeed !!
L. T.
This is an absolute gem of a place... Thoroughly enjoyed the nature walk and the fabulous train exhibits. The staff are amazing... So willing to help. The cafe is just perfect... Great coffee and a fabulous menu. It's a place I will always try and make time to visit when near Mountsorrel
M. C.
Nice atmosphere good food 👌
C. H.
Very popular place with large queue.
t. s.
Great place to visit. Daughter loves the woodland walks and there's a very friendly pheasant. .. museum. Walks .cafe . trains and a play area. Perfect for the family on an afternoon where you say "what shall we do "
W. B.
Excellent visit.had some food which did cost a bit as it does on these sites but was good quality and service was good. Above all it was free to go around the centre(no need to buy anything) and I found the place great with plenty of walks and signs saying what was what. A small train museum as well. I belive the train from loughborough calls a few times per year but there is a small outside railway and crasy golf course. Walks are a little up and down but push chair passable....wheelchairs fine on the main area.
J. C.
Really great place. However would recommend to have the cake and not a sandwich
J. K.
Great afternoon out with children there is a nature walk and den building area, there is also a small play area next to the cafe.
The cafe serves light bites ang wonderful cakes from Dominique of Rothley. My grandson is a big fan of the sausage rolls.

C. P.

D. B.
Great cafe with a wide choice of meals and superb cakes. Lots of interesting things for youngsters to see and do. Highly recommended.
C. C.
Very busy, quite a queue, ice cream and coffee good, grand kids had a good time
k. g.
My favourite coffee stop.
The staff here actually care and understand about coffee, each cup is individually made, none of this reheating and burning the milk you get in so many of these so called coffee shops, the cakes are delicious and the service is first class, indoor or outdoor sitting is available, there always busy which says a lot
J. B.
A lovely place, first time I had been then went again, a very busy place so get there early, food was served with good presentation, the cakes are beautiful, don't go if on diet.
G. S.
Lovely little coffee shop on the outskirts of Mountsorrel. Serves light meals, teas, coffee and cakes. Food generally supplied by Norths of Rothley, so all round good quality. Has a heritage centre linked to the Great Central Railway, opened by Prince Charles. Was built using local granite from the quarry with help from owners Lafarge. There are walks and trails to follow, plenty for children. Secluded spot next to the railway line. Very tranquil. It's a not for profit organisation so all monies go back into the shop and railway.
T. L.
Reasonably priced. Nice to sit outside with the branch open and running. The only reason I cannot rate 5 is due to wait for drinks, i think operationally it needs an overhaul however service is good
J. B.
A great place, a popular Sunday afternoon visit, just lacks abit of safety having to queer outside for food and a table.
Perhaps do table service.
S. C.
Nice place well organised, food could of been a little warmer and it's not the cheapest that said they were very busy.
J. A.
A really nice place, foods lovely, our 5 year old grandson loved the garden railway and train museum. Woodland walk was good.
M. R.

c. l.
Fabulous place to enjoy a coffee and catch up with friends. The trail is great to take young children out in the fresh air too.
L. S.
