Reviews of Margaret's Tea Rooms

Absolutely stunning experience at Margaret’s Tea Rooms yesterday. We were all made to feel really welcome and the red velvet cake was delicious. The tea selection is exceptional. Lovely place to meet with friends! We’ll be back x

The place location is very great and the decoration is captivating.
👍👍👍 The food was very very tasty and great. I was going to order afternoon tea at 15.30 but I was told that this should be booked in advance. So I got (Cheddar sandwiches + salads + crisps, Tuna sandwiches, Fruit scones + jam + cream+ strawberry, Carrot cake and normal tea) nearly afternoon tea but without the afternoon tea stand 😅.
The thing that I would like to be concerned is that at my specific experience I found some difficulty in communication (Visitor - English not my mother tongue) with some staff which if concerned will be very appreciated, though I'm not ruling out that I also have to learn/adjust to different speed and pitches.
My order was larger than the table space which made me and my partner uncomfortable though there were some free large tables.

Me, my partner and two friends visited this little gem yesterday and absolutely loved it! Really friendly staff and amazing choice of flavoured and herbal tea. The sandwiches were soft and delicious! Also a nice selection of scones and cakes, lovely interior and we will be returning on our next visit to Lincoln!

Delightful tea room opposite small park area. Friendly service. However I have just removed 1 star as I've seen the amount charged for 2 latte (hot but not the best) and 1 piece of cake which was expensive. Sadly we will not be returning for that reason.

A hidden gem at the bottom of Steep Hill. Wonderfully fresh food, incredibly clean and a very warm welcome awaits. A must visit for Breakfast, Lunch, or Afternoon Tea

Hi Des, just want to thank you and your staff for making our Diamond Wedding Afternoon Tea so special. We enjoyed every moment of it and all your extra personal touches were so lovely and much appreciated. The food was delicious and the teas were lovely. You are one of a kind and fit perfectly into your chosen business, don't ever change. Sue has always spoken highly of you and now we know why. You must make so many people very happy. Hope to see you again sometime, will definitely recommend you and your tearooms to our friends. Best wishes Dave and Glenys.

Just had the most amazing afternoon tea with friends! What an amazing place and the food was absolutely amazing! I would definitely recommend and come back really soon! Thank you Dez and staff.

Meant to write review right after our visit to Margaret's in July but didn't and then life got in the way.
This was our second visit to the lovely cafe as we discovered it on our last trip to Lincoln [pre covid/lockdown]
Great, fresh, tasty food. My husband had one of the breakfast dishes and I had a baked potato and salad [with homemade coleslaw]
The range of speciality teas and lovely cakes alone make the very slight detour off Steep Hill to find the tea room, worthwhile. We bought a cake each to take home with us.
It's a little gem of a place.

Genuinely delightful! We made a special trip because it's so highly recommended - and it definitely lives up to the reputation. This is also the first time I have found a fruit tea that actually TASTES of something, and I bought a packet of Aphrodi-tea to take home too. The panini's were very reasonably priced, and the salad side was substantial - the crisps are a particularly nice touch.
If you're able, make a trip, it's ENTIRELY worth it. Afternoon tea needs booking in advance, but staff lovely. 😍🦎
V. I.
Everything you could hope for in a tiny package. An excellent host who interacted with all customers. A wide range of tea flavours (we tried 3 different ones and were so impressed we even bought some to take home) and you get a proper tea pot full, no daft one cup offering here! We had afternoon tea which should appeal to any sweet toothed person it came with a generous selection of cakes and some finger sandwiches and salad, just enough so you can pretend it was a healthy meal.
The decor is very unique, nothing chain store in sight.
If you like small and boutique I'd highly recommend a visit. We went for a hen-do but will go back as a couple.
(You may have to book)

Just wow. Wonderful place with fabulous customer service and delicious food and coffee. I’ve never a better experience of afternoon tea. Would definitely return.
S.
We had really quality time here. The owner is so passionate and humorous to make our stay memorable and relaxing. They offer a variety of great tea served with delicious cakes, not to mention the lovely atmosphere and the cosy furnishing. We rank Orange cake and brownie top on our list! Overall, it's excellent and definitely worth a visit!
F. I.
Just amazing ambience. Des is always in tip top form and whatever I order is always spot on.
You can't beat the cheese and marmite panini followed by jaffa cake! Yum 😍
P. E.
A really friendly, well done and very filling afternoon tea. Off the main thoroughfare between top and bottom of Lincoln town but overlooking peaceful gardens. Difficult times for all but executed well pavement side with ample tea cake and sandwich provision! We had to take some home! Would 100% recommend to visitors!
H. R.
Absolutely delicious cake at good prices. We followed the charming gentleman's recommendations and treated ourselves to a cake each. We had a chocolate brownie, a biscoffee cheesecake slice, a salted caramel chocolate cheesecake slice, and a jaffa cake. All were excellent and the box they came in very prettily presented. We will definitely be back!
G. H.
Absolutely sublime, amazing attention to detail, wonderful relaxed atmosphere, welcoming and beautiful. The staff are friendly, service was brilliant, nothing too much trouble. Children are welcomed, try the Kinder cake! The afternoon tea is five star and the tea selection is fab, though you don't have to have tea, they have coffee and soft drinks as well. Margaret's has a great back story as well and is down to the hard work of the owner. Highly recommend and will be back soon.
J. D.
Beautiful afternoon tea here! The staff are so friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious! Thank you for a lovely mother's day afternoin tea!
W. O. I.
Absolutely brilliant place, extremely friendly owner serving some delicious food and drink. Always happy to help and give a little extra. Always high quality ingredients, absolutely the go to cafe. Best milkshake I've ever had.
S. M.
This is the place you need to visit if you are looking for delicious scones or cakes. Good service and a lovely atmosphere. I haven't had a cream tea however on Mothering Sunday there were several families enjoying their experience. Thank you to all concerned.
D. P.
Fabulous little tea rooms with loads and loads of different teas to choose from. We didn't eat but saw some of the cakes and the afternoon tea they were serving and they looked awesome. Definitely worth a visit when in Lincoln next.
D.
We had a lovely afternoon tea here, which consisted of cute little sandwich fingers, scones, a variety of mini cakes (chocolate orange cake, carrot cake, maccaroons etc), pork pies.
We also had the funky flavoured tea called 'Birthday cake', would highly recommend! A nice treat indeed.
Des was a great host and owner!
j. m.
My daughter and I fancied afternoon tea . We saw the sign for Margaret's Tea Room and decided to go in even though we hadn't booked they were pleased to serve us . There was a very good choice of teas avaliable and when our food arrived there was a good choice of sandwiches cakes pork pie and lovely scones with jam and cream .The staff were very friendly . We left with our goodie box after a lovely afternoon . Would highly recommend a visit there.
J. T.
Absolutely delicious warm scones with fresh strawberries, cream and posh jam. A beautiful leafy spot to sit outside in the sun in pretty surroundings
J. W.
If you love tea, you'll love this place. Selection of teas is second to none, with it all served the way it should be. Genuinely a magical find after exploring the city.
J. S.
What a wonderful place...food was exceptional, the tea was delightful, place was immaculate and the staff were pacey and polite...we will be back..we highly recommend..Thankyou
R. H.
A star find. Wonderful, friendly service. Massive pot of delicious tea. We will be b@
R. D.
I highly, highly recommend Margaret's Tea Room, my first visit today and I will be back.
It is hard to find places these days that go the extra mile with customer care, the owner is the loveliest man you are ever likely to meet, nothing is too much trouble, we pre ordered an afternoon tea and he sat with us and went through everything and adjusted for dietary requirements, superb.
Cakes and tea were amazing today.
A. H.
The term hidden gem is so often misused. However in this case it is spot on. Tucked away from the main streets of Lincoln, this proper tea room is indeed a gem worth seeking out. Des, the owner, is warm and welcoming and skilfully balances front of house charm with his, equally skilful, work in the kitchen. Our waitress (whose name I didn't get, please forgive me) was polite, attentive, without being obtrusive, and efficient.
We'd opted for the high tea, which turned out to be an excellent choice. Fruity, iced tea to start (great flavour), followed quickly by hot drinks. I stepped out of my comfort zone and went vanilla chai. So glad I did. The food arrived piled on on the traditional 3 tier stand, with scones and cream on yet another plate. The sandwiches were fresh soft and delicious with a good range of fillings. Topped off by a good range of cakes and assorted sweet items, all dressed with really good strawberries, an especially pleasant surprise given how early in the season it was.
On the topic of price, I would say it sits comfortably in the normal range for such offerings. However in terms of quality and value for money, it's far ahead of the pack and amongst the best I've had.
We found Margaret's by chance. I hope the universe is as kind to you and that you too manage to stumble across this properly named hidden gem.
L. A.
Excellent service and food. Great selection of teas and cakes. We went for the Afternoon tea and it was fantastic. Cakes and sandwiches were fresh and the tea lush. Will be going...

A couple of weeks ago I had to take Mum into the Opticians in Lincoln. I had booked a table at Margaret's Tea Rooms to surprise Mum. We were a little late but had messaged to say we would be. We were welcomed and shown to our table and offered a glass of water each which was very welcome. The menus were handed to us and we both decided on the Cyprus Salad. It didn't disappoint. We were so full after that we decided to take home 2 pieces of cake for our tea. Des recommended his Baileys and Belgian chocolate gateaux. It was utterly delicious not at all too sweet and there was a generous taste of Baileys. Thank you to Des and his wonderful staff for our lovely afternoon. You never fail to satisfy. X
E. J.
Lovely place, serious about tea! We'll recommended for on but near high street brew and cake!
P. S.
Brought my granddaughter, Charlotte, here for afternoon tea. A lovely place, wonderful food, a great welcome and service Thank you.
C. M.
Lovely little tea room :) I booked Margaret's for my mum's birthday, there were 15 of us all together so it was a little snug but the staff were very nimble and incredibly patient with us, especially the little ones. Food was delicious (the jaffa cake was the group favourite), the afternoon teas were prebooked but all our extras were prepared quickly and were just as good, including the vegetarian afternoon tea which I had forgotten to mention (I was asked for dietary requirements in advance 😅).
K. C.
Lovely team, fabulous tea, a tearoom with a difference. Recommended
K. E.
Amazing food, atmosphere and customer service! Went with my mum and my 3 year old daughter today and we all loved it, food was really fresh and tasted so good… was a little bit longer waiting than hoped but it was 100% worth the wait. Will definitely be returning again! 5 ⭐️

Booked for our 45th wedding anniversary with family. A great friendly welcome. Absolutely lovely tea. Delicious food & fab choice of interesting teas. Lovely helpful staff & owner, Dez. Very informative about tea varieties & no rush to turf us out at 4pm. Reasonably priced, good value.
P. D.
Great local tea room. Fantastic range of teas, tasty cakes and all made to feel like an experience by an attentive and welcoming host.
l. m.
Absolutely wonderful, polite and friendly service, amazing selection of teas and cakes. Splendid.
J. h.
Lovely afternoon tea and even chatted with guy who knew manchester.
Worth a visit...yummy jaffa cake... x
J. M.
Collected an afternoon tea “to go” today to enjoy with a friend. The food was beautifully presented and the attention to detail was incredible. Everything was absolutely delicious - definitely the best afternoon tea in Lincoln in my opinion.
C. k.
Delightful little place, owner is happy to chat and creates a lovely atmosphere. Had a pot of tea and a sundae and will definitely go again.
J. R.
This is an absolute hidden gem! The afternoon teas to take away, or eat in are just absolutely divine. The boxes are full to the brim with treats, sandwiches and cakes.
There are so many different flavoured teas to try, from ordinary teas to black forest, chamomile, fruit salad, liquorice, rhubarb and so much more!!!
I honestly cannot recommend this tea room enough. Plus, Des who runs it is just amazing....your not just another customer your a friend.
His cakes, food, teas and Des himself are just magical. Plus he would cater for gluten free and vegetarian.
I would rate this tea room a million stars if I could, I honestly cannot recommend him highly enough.
C. E. (.
Such a lovely place... Des is a diamond, always so friendly and welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble!
The food is delicious... always fresh and tasty, and beautifully presented, whether eating in or as a take out.
Jaffa cake is a must! Highly recommend this fabulous local business
D. F.
After noon tea excellent really enjoyed my first visit
M. R.
Great Tea Room. The host was amazing and very attentive. Definitely will be added to my favourite places to visit in Lincoln ❤
F. C.
What a wonderful find this tea room is from the moment you step inside.
Beautiful decor, pristine tablecloths, cutlery and crockery, food exceptional and a lovely warm hospitable welcome from Des the owner.
You are missing out on something if you go to Lincoln and don't visit Margaret's!
We had been visiting Lincoln on a sad occasion but Des and his staff lightened the mood of the day for us, before our journey back to Sheffield. Thanks again Des. We hope to see you soon. Frank and Stella xx
H. G.
One of the friendliest places I've ever come across. Was sat on the field opposite on a really hot day and one of the staff popped over with an ice tea for me! They really didn't have to do this and had no idea who I was. Really nice thing to do and would recommend this place to anybody I know who's heading to Lincoln.
C. E.
Another excellent experience at Margaret's Tea Rooms - the tea blends are wonderful (I recommend the Aphrodi-tea) and the panini options cater for vegetarian diets too.
Thank you again!
L. R.
Lovely afternoon tea , everything was well presented and tasted amazing. I will def return and recommend it to friends
V. T.
Had afternoon tea on 7th September as part of my daughters 21st birthday celebrations. It was definitely the best afternoon I have ever had. The food was plentyful and delicious. Highly recommend the 'birthday cake' tea ☺️ The tearoom is lovely and our table by the window was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The owner is lovely...very friendly.
Can't wait to visit again.
S.
What a lovely place !! Ideal for morning coffee, afternoon tea or like we did a leisurely lunch with good friends. Des is a real joy and added to our enjoyment, fun banter, such a great tribute to his mum - Margaret.
Really good tasty food, wonderful moist cakes, luckily Des was able to assure us they were calorie free(not) !!
The tea rooms are tucked aware in a quiet corner overlooking a green space, so you feel 'protected ' from the bustle of the town. The decor is lovely and very fitting for a tea room, wish we had found it sooner, it has been open for over 2 years.
Well done could not fine any faults, except that we had to leave.xx
j. s.
Delightful little tea room. Sat out side. Owner cleaned the tables and chairs before he would let us sit down. Food was served on what looked like old fashioned newspaper and was homemade and delicious. Was a treat as we did the quizzes and crosswords whilst we ate. Such a novel way of serving food. Served strawberries and clotted cream as a perk with soft, crumbly homemade scones. Can defo recommend it as a place for afternoon tea.
A. C.
Really cute tea room, reasonable prices. Had the afternoon tea for 2 and everything was delicious. Will be back again!
B. D.
We had such a wonderful time at the tea Room. I and my partner have been before, but we took my parents this time. We had a festive afternoon tea, with stollen and Christmas cakes, as well as delicious sandwiches. My mother has a nut allergy and Des, despite being given no advance warning (sorry!) was able to provide her a nut free afternoon tea!
The selection of tea here is amazing, we love birthday cake and mucky wellies!
All in all a lovely treat, we'll be back again I'm sure
D. W.
My friend Zerena, ordered a Black Forest Gateau from Margaret's Tea Rooms, as a gift to share with my partner & I today.
We collected the Gateau earlier today, I have to say that it was the most amazing gateau I have ever tasted.
I was a pastry chef for quite a long time & this dessert is right up there with those from some of the top hotels I have been to.
This was a perfect end to a perfect day.
L. M.
What a beautiful tea room with so many different teas to choose from. Afternoon tea was absolutely delicious. We had to book as there was 13 of us but nothing was to much trouble and the owner was wonderful and very welcoming, he even kept one of our groups little boy entertained so mummy could eat her afternoon tea. I can't recommend this place highly enough and can't wait to return.
S. P.
We visited for afternoon tea 11-10-20. This was a long-awaited birthday treat for my friend and Des did not disappoint. As Covid-safe as he could possibly make it, fabulous food, great tea choices, wonderful setting. What’s not to love?!
S. W.
Too good to share. This was my second visit to this small, but beautiful tea room. Great range of teas (I tried the Yorkshire rhubarb) and exquisite sandwiches. I am almost reluctant to tell anyone how lovely it is in case there are no seats when I next visit! I will definitely be back for lunch again
M. H.
Love the owner. He's super nice and charming. Also like the story behind the tea room. We try to stop there every time we go to Lincoln. As they also have a huge selection of good teas. Would recommend
C. F.
We found Margaret's on trip advisor and after all the good reviews, mum and I just had to try it! We were not disappointed! Decadent cakes and wholesome sandwiches & a warm and friendly host! It won't be long until our next visit!... Wonderful selection of teas, an excellent hidden gem and great value for money.
L.
Lovely little room, so friendly! Huge range of flavoured teas. A tad pricey tho (£3 for a toasted teacake, £3.50 for a latte, approx £6 for a sandwich). However, I would visit again and do recommend 🙂
J. B.
Lovely afternoon tea for mothers day with my daughter and grand daughters. Attention to detail was spot on as usual
D. S.
We found Margaret's Tea Rooms by accident on our first ever day out n Lincoln. And we were so glad we did. See was very welcoming and friendly. Service was excellent and the tables and decor are beautifully presented. A place we would definitely recommend.
w. C. A. H.
Lovely little place tucked away on Garnston Street, but well worth making the effort of finding it. Very clean and lovely decor. We had soup and a sandwich with a large pot of real tea. Everything was fresh and of good quality and there is a large selection of different tea's. Definitely a place to return to.
Z. D.
Loved this place! Great selection of teas. Scotch mist is to die for! Plus the afternoon tea is to die for. My favourite was the orange and chocolate cake. Impeccable taste and attention to detail. Definitely worth a visit.
M. S.
Lovely afternoon tea with friends. Very attentive owner who asked us to try some alcohol free g&t! Friendly staff, we'll definately be back.
Thank you again
T. W.
Fabulous fresh homemade tea here today, served by a perfect host. Des was so welcoming and thoughtful. The whole family was made welcome from my vegetarian daughter to my poorly 18 month old gransdon.
D. R.
A quaint cosy friendly place to enjoy a wide selection of teas, I can highly recommend the salted caramel cheesecake.
C. W.
Des the owner is lovely. He made sure I got some gluten free options and the decor was nice and cozy inside. The teas smell amazing (he creates the blends himself). It was so hard to choose! But I enjoyed his new aphrodit tea which was very citrusy and fruity! Great little place!
T. W.
Amazing teas and lovely service. The outside doesn't do it justice.
G. D.
Had a lovely lunch with my mum when she came to visit. Quite a cosy tea room, they were packed with a baby shower but still managed to fit us in (they later had to turn people who hadn't reserved away). I had a very tasty ham and cheese panini, served with a side salad and lovely coleslaw.
The coffee was lovely, decor lovely, staff especially lovely! Thank you for a surprising afternoon.
C. B.
Absolutely fabulous afternoon tea. Thank you. We enjoyed it. Lovely to see it was so busy. We will be back.
C. G.
Visited on Sunday and really enjoyed my Afternoon Tea. I highly recommend this lovely little Tea Room. On offer was a selection of unusual teas, some of which were caffeine free fruit teas, delicious cakes, scones and sandwiches, friendly and efficient service with a smile.
I will definitely return. 5 stars
l. c.
If I could give it more or would be a 10 stars.
I met des today for the first time visit with a friend. He was so welcoming and friendly and made us feel so welcome. There were a couple of other diners at the same time and he gave ever the most wonderful service.
We had two panini and two slices of the most divine chocolate orange cake I've ever tasted.
I opted for the rhubarb tea and it was absolutely delicious.
My two year old daughter had scrambled egg and a drink of milk served in a tea cup just like mummy and Fiona!
I would recommend this beautiful tea room to all who visit Lincoln.
Will be visiting again. .. several times and taking my mum for the afternoon tea.
Thank you des for a.lovley lunch.
h. h.
Lovely little tearoom slightly off the beaten track that we found taking a different route. Fantastic cakes and an amazing selection of teas. We will definitely return.
T. B.
We had to knock to gain entry at 12, when it opened at 11, so I guess Sunday is usually a quiet day. The servers were pleasant, albeit preoccupied with making delivery orders. The afternoon tea looked nice, but we had the sandwiches and a scone. The bread was just a hovis loaf from Aldi (as the delivery man brought it in). It should really be proper bread. The fillings were nice, but small. Coleslaw was nice, crisps fine and salad just the bagged stuff. The hot chocolate was excellent and the scones lovely, just a let down with the sandwiches really.
S. L.
Excellent
G.
Got a voucher for Christmas to have afternoon tea, great experience made to feel welcome as soon as we stepped in, a large varieties of teas on offer, the sandwiches on brown had a large amount of fillings, and the cakes so moist, great atmosphere will definitely call again x

Very cute and I recommend the aphrodi'tea!

For a spaniard not used to have tea and this things, I have to say it was a great great experience. The service was super kind and all the teas and food far more than delicious. Not very expensive by the way. Completely recommended.

Lovely place, not too busy when I visited. Always a queue outside of the other tea rooms in Lincoln, puts you off :-)
