Reviews of Maggie Mays
F. W.
A simple, down to earth, slice of Liverpool serving a hearty home cooked authentic scouse. A cheerful and charming local hangout serving generations of regulars for nearly 30 years. Service is warm and folksy. Prices are reasonable. £6.95 for a generous plate of scouse paired with beetroot and sliced baguettes to sop up the sauce. If you order a can of Coke, the glasses are chilled. Nice attention to detail. The decor is def old school, complete with scratchy wooden chairs and green checkered tablecloths. But old is the new gold. The colorful butterfly cage hanging mobile gives a touch of spring. Well worth a visit. Pop in for a bite before diving into the Liverpool of Beatlemania!

One of my favourite breakfast places in town, i got Traditional English breakfast and it was amazing, staff was sweet, would definitely suggest to try it out and in case you are vegetarian, they have options for you too. 🤗
R. B.
I would highly recommend this traditional gem of a cafe in Liverpool city centre. It is one of the few places to offer Scouse which I ate along with two family members
I enjoyed this immensely and was served with three baguette rounds and either red cabbage or beetroot. I've never had these before and had the cabbage with the stew which made it morish. We shared a bowl of chips as a tasty addition.
The cafe does offer other meals like sandwiches and ALL DAY breakfast which is uncommon particularly in London so is ideal if you like it.
The staff were friendly and welcoming. They're Attentive when you need anything else.
Overall I recommend popping in if you fancy light lunches, breakfast or to try the local stew.
M. B.
Scrumptious traditional breakfast and very well priced. Better than some of the fancier places I've been on this trip. Lovely atmosphere with quick service, and they serve breakfast all day so you can sleep in and pop by for brunch.
P. A.
Traditional Liverpool meal Scouse was the reason I visited Maggie Mays Cafe Bar. Earlier I asked in nearby pub where one can eat Scouse and the answer was Maggie Mays. Additionally to meal was beetroot or red cabbage I think with vinegar. And also asked for a small bottle of Budweiser
L. D.
If you don't pay attention when walking, you might lose a lovely and nice place in the city center. They have many options regarding meals and breakfasts and the english breakfast is a nice option even for lunch. The decoration is nice so this place is a must go.

Never had scouse before, and Ive got to say, it's a whole world I need to get involved in. It has to be said that we'are all living in Platos Cave aside from Maggie May. The scouse had hearty flavour that right perked me up so it did.
I'll paint the picture, I was afwul tired, and dare I say, quite weary! So I go in here and get a plate of their finest Scouse. And oh my! What a scouse it was. This old flower was wilting and the scouse was like a fresh shower after Jesus' 40 days in the desert. Would give it 6 stars if I could, Maggie May you're a diamond in my eyes
M. H.
This place was just great start to finish. It's not changed, but they've moved with the times. The service was great and the bowl of scouse was fantastic too, just what I needed on a wintery day in Liverpool. The building is lovely and clean and they take real pride here. A true mother and daughter business. Mia's service was amazing, it was a real good visit. Will be back again.

I went to meet my oldest friend who was travelling from Birmingham. We met in Bold street and decided to try Maggie May's. The service was excellent, the coffee was great and not too expensive. The staff were very helpful and friendly. One of the staff even took some photos for us. I would definitely recommend this cafe to all!
C.
Friendly service and nice meal. Like the steak pie

My mum and me were on a day trip to Liverpool on Thursday 24th February and decided to go for something to eat at Maggie Mays. The food was delicious that we ordered and the full English breakfast i had was a good large portion. The place was very busy and no wonder when the meals are this good and the staff are so friendly. Mum and me will return to Liverpool as we love the place and we shall definitely have another bite to eat at Maggie Mays, hopefully meeting the lovely local lady again that we shared a table with who is one of their regular customers!.
G. R.
Nice place, quick service and good decent food! Worth a walk over the road from other such morning cafes! Decent prices and plenty of food.
s. a.
Lost count of how many times I came here, I had several times the traditional English breakfast with a latte or a tea and it was boss, the quality is more than delicious, the staff is very nice and the price is fair. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to taste for the first any traditional English and scouser dish.
b. d.
Amazing breakfast. Proper bangers and gammon thick bacon. Lovely service very clean and u don't come out smelling of a greasy spoon. Marvellous
H. B.
Welcoming old school cafe. Pretty standard British cafe menu (that’s not a criticism) located at the top end of Bold Street. Friendly service and decent enough food and coffee.
C. R.
Lovely breakfast very friendly and really clean .
Would definitely recommend
B. P.
Great traditional English cafe in the midst of Bold St. I’m a tourist, so I can’t properly comment on the quality of the food, but it has a very English feel, and the traditional English breakfast tasted very nice. Would definitely recommend
R. R.
Great traditional food, friendly and polite staff, good prices, local feel, always busy
H. G. I. A.
Loved it, quiet and empty, the way I like it. Stopped in for tea for two, huge pot of tea, and lovely clean cups and spoons I felt confident in the hygiene. Listening to the radio quietly on the couches with a lovely cuppa, it was perfect. Definitely recommend.
M. F. T.
Great all day breakfast. Try the scouse. Excellent service from friendly staff.

Walked in and was immediately greeted with a smile from a staff member. I ordered the English breakfast and a cup of tea. All served hot and with a smile. The food was delicious. Place very clean and staff all friendly and helpful.

Excellent greasy spoon café in the heart of Liverpool city centre! 😍 Breakfast meals available all day. Reasonable prices. Helpful and friendly staff! :D Highly recommended! 👍
S. T.
It's a nice little cafe serving home cooked reasonably priced food. Situated in the middle of Liverpool's Bold street it's a good mid shopping stop off but sadly it's location means you're also having to dodge the local addicts that seem to congregate in the door ways or wander up and down arguing with themselves.
D. L.
We have walked past here loads of times always busy wanting to try it out, finally our opportunity came and we were not disappointed.
Greeting was friendly, place felt relaxed. The menu has a good selection, we settled on the curry and the all day breakfast and was not disappointed.
Good portion size plenty of flavour and quick service. Decided to spoil ourselves and go for a cake also. Generous portion and good price.
This is a place I will need to visit again to try more of the menu and would recommend others to try also, there is plenty of seating spaced out well.
P. A.
Place was very busy, the food was excellent, value for money and served promptly (party of 6) all together by very nice staff. Will definitely go again.
L. W.
Nice welcome. Staff are lovely. Everywhere very clean. Covid restrictions adhered to. Good menu.
Scouse ordered. Disappointing. Like blind scouse. 1 piece of meat in portion.
Sandwiches- ok but nothing special for price. Steak pie was good.
Would go back but choose different food.
a. g.
Wife and I decided to go here after a few years after our last visit. Scampi and I had steak pie absolutely gorgeous food really friendly staff and a pleasant airy atmosphere. Will be going again. Reasonable prices and spotlessly clean
T. N.
Absolutely love Maggie Mays! It became a regular stop while I was in Liverpool, and I will go back for sure when I am there again. Family run, with super friendly staff, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. My boyfriend and I still say it has the best Prawn Mayo, and the most generous tea for two.
V. G.
A great place! 100% authentic, very nice staff, inexpensive and very tasty. The best english breakfast!
E. K.
Excellent traditional food! Maggie Mays reminds a mix of Irish American cafe shop where you can have your hangout. Tasty breakfast, very good selection of dishes for any time of the day and for everyone, excellent coffee. And all these come with a non-pretentious atmosphere, original local feel and perfect prices. Everyone was very polite and helpful, too. We loved it
N. W.
A lovely traditional cafe.only downside was the prices it seemed a little steep. But clean place and very friendly staff. Food was lovely
L. R.
Beautiful family restaurant! Service and food are very good
s. m.
Maggie Mays has got to be the best place in Liverpool for good home cooked food. We're from Sheffield and go to Maggie Mays whenever we're in Liverpool. Good food, good staff, what more do you want

Lovely full English brecky and with black pudding.
Worth every penny.
Finally got to visit here again 3/9/21. Still a brilliant, breakfast, gorgeous, and still got a beautiful smile from that lovely lady on the till. She knows who she is, and she still remembered me from before covid. X
R.
Lovely little cafe/diner good food and price and nice atmosphere
n. s.
Lovely and old-fashioned style cafe, looks like it has been around forever, really busy which is a positive sign. Quick service, friendly staff, clean. Standard food options, good for myself, as I can't eat anything too adventurous. A bit on the dark side- lighting wise.
M. R.
Went for breakfast with my son, nearest thing to home cooking. A simple menu with good wholesome food. Very clean and well laid out. Will definitely be back.
I. M.
Great cafe food and really helpful staff. Welcoming to all: buildings filling up on all day breakfasts, young families keeping the kids quiet, grans meeting for afternoon tea. Defo recommend to soak up hangovers.

We found this lovely place, by chance whilst my husband and I were having a wonder.
Maggie May's is beautifully clean and very homely, it serves traditional British food which is delicious and very well priced.
Under the glass on the tables, is old newspaper cuttings that tell you all about the history of Liverpool.
We came back today and brought our little boy, and he has fallen in love as well, and is now desperate to bring his nanna on a date.
I highly recommend Maggie May's.
Also they have a number 5 rating which they proudly display in the window.
S. M.

Maggie May's is our regular eating place when we go into the city centre. Great food and such friendly staff. They always have different art work on the walls; showing liverpool's artistic talents and plenty of seats so you can always get a seat no matter how busy it gets.

C. Q.
Came here after seeing it on Action Bronson's "F*** that's delicious" and realising I've never tried scouse.
Nice little place, the toilets could do with a renovation though.
The scouse was decent and the staff were friendly enough.
T. H.
City centre café serving good solid faire with the a very good quality bowl of the traditional scouse with beetroot or red cabbage or both (!) Friendly and plentiful staff. The scouse was reasonably of volume and very tasty. Good seating and all round well worth dropping in and they hate the Sun newspaper (if you can call it that) so more power to their elbow....
E. D.
This place has changed a lot since I was last there a few years ago, Staff are fab, food is decent. Its a shame its over priced for what it is, in my opinion.

(Translated) Entered after 12:00 on weekdays. I received a skaus. It's pretty light. We will prepare salt and pepper and sauce so let's enjoy it while customizing it to your taste. Choose cabbage for garnish, this is a strong and intense taste. In addition, you can enjoy typical British meals such as jack potatoes. First of all, secure a seat, and when you decide what you want to order, place an order at the counter and pay on the spot. The menu is generally cheap and the cospa is pretty good. The serving time for food is also early. During the meal, it is crowded with young and old men and women and local skauses.
