Reviews of Bake Street
A. O.
This cafe is always super busy. İt's like a beehive for all coffee lovers. After trying it for the first time I understand the hype. The Latte with oat milk is the nicest I've had at £3.50. I wish they add coconut milk to their options. The staff are very good too always smiling and helpful. Prices are a bit high hence good quality. They accept both cash and card payments.
E. S.
I've never had a better cookie - creme brulee??? Amazing. Worth the trip from anywhere in London. And that's just the start, amazing smash burgers and melt in your mouth birria tacos. Oh, and one of the best hot chicken sandwiches I've had in this city. Highly recommend!
P.
Absolutely amazing cakes, brownies, cookies and biscuits. The best in London and I don’t say this lightly. Really friendly baker with amazing staff.
Highly recommend the visit as you won’t be disappointed.
A. K.
Hot food and bakery is just sublime. Creme Brûlée cookies only available Friday-Sunday.
D. L.
Best cookies and cakes ever. Lovely people, lovely food and the chef is so passionate about her cooking. One of the best hidden gems in London.
P. B.
Fantastic hidden gem. Particularly good fried chicken sandwiches - but the rest of the menu is great as well. A must-visit if you’re local.
P. B.
This one of my favourite places in Stoke Newington! The food is exceptional, the coffee is quality and the staff are always welcoming! I would recommend anyone to visit!
L. M. P.
My favourite place for brunch in London. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. Excellent good, reasonable price, their homemade ice cream is a MUST! Go go go!
S. B.
Omg! This place is soooo worth all the hype! First of all creme brûlée cookies??? Incredible. And the Nashville hot chicken is out of this world! It’s not too spicy at all! And the perfect crunch with each bite! I’m so impressed! The only thing is the location is so far from me and kind of in a random place in East London. I wish they would open a branch in Central London! The fact that it’s halal too , ugh perfect! Great customer service! I will be back :)
s. m.
Lovely family owned cafe, very chilled vibe, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. No sweet options apart from home made small bakes so waiting for pancakes and waffles to come in so I can add in a star! Prices weren't too outrageous, about average.
S. R.
Coffee shop with all croissants sandwiches and cakes, all homemade! Breakfasts are good, customer service on point and prices ain’t too bad either! Nice spot to chill out in and catch up with people. Parking can be a bit of and issue, but they are very close to Rectory Road Station. I will go back for sure!
N. G.
Amazingly good food! Get the birra tacos. Pulled lamb and they give you a cup of the juices it was cooked in because they know how good it is. Also didn’t know I needed a creme brûlée cookie in my life. Everything was incredibly well priced. Burgers around 7.50, normally for something like this you would pay close to 13. Only thing was, don’t know if it was just the day we went, but at 12 on a Sunday, there wasn’t too much vibe. It felt more like a a refueling station than a cafe. That being said, they got me, I will be back
M. T.
The service in here is always great and the owner is so friendly. The homemade ice cream that they sell in tubs is incredible!
M. W.
Good neighborhood lunch option opposite Rectory Rd station. Check what's on if you're making a special trip, no food on Monday/Tuesday and different midweek and weekend menus. Mainly nice things in buns, recently started serving ice cream too.
B. S.
What a cosy hospitable joint. I believe these guys make their food with passion. I had breakfast their with the mrs and we literally swiped the whole plate clean. Full with flavour. Staff are very friendly. The whole establishment as a team have done an outstanding job. Can not reccomend this place high enough..
S. K.
Knowing there’s be limited seating I opted to takeaway. After about a ten minute wait I got a perfectly packaged tacos and consommé which travelled really well home. Raring to go for brunch soon and have the whole menu.
L. T.
Highly recommend the fried chicken eggs benedict for brunch. Tasted great and very filling. Staff were really friendly and service was quick too.
z. a.
Nice out the way spot for a quiet munch. Can get busy sometimes but that's because the food 10/10 and the staff are awsome. Can't recommend this place enough. Have to try the honey latte.
J. J.
Delicious fried chicken bene! So crispy. The pistachios orange cake was amazing. Just the right texture and sweetness sooooo good!
B. K.
Second time we've come here, still amazing. Freshly cooked and neatly presented, impossible to choose thanks to the mouth watering menu, that's why I asked for help and boy was I glad. Love it!
L.
Decent enough place that serves decent enough coffee and somewhat fresh croissants. Staff are a bit slow. I think people get excited rating this place because there was nothing around here before. It's a solid 4-star cafe. I remove a star because I've twice now turned up when it's meant to be open and found shutters. Overall, I think it's doing well because there's no competition in the immediate area. Walk 7 mins to Stokey high street or 12 mins to Church Street and better choices are available.
E. A.
The snack-type items are unimaginative and overpriced. I had a potato / cheese cake, which quite frankly was hard to finish. Some of the cakes are good though. My biggest complaint with Bake Street is that they are unable to make HOT coffee.
M. A.
Cute family run cafe! The vibe is very chilled and the prices are decent. Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the area. Halal too!!!!
J. K.
Peerless brunch bits and baked goods, with some of the friendliest staff in London. Worth keeping an eye on their instagram because they're being very thoughtful in adapting to Covid so the what, when and how changes regularly.
T. P.
I’ve been coming to Bake Street since they opened - 5 years ago! - and have always loved the amazing breakfast/brunch/pastry/coffee offering. It was the first spot around that Clapton / Rectory Road hood with this level of brunchy deliciousness and coffee excellence.
It’s also family owned, a sister and a brother, one is the baker and the other is the chef .
But they have now got tacos and burgers, believe or not, that are equally amazing, believe it or not! I would usually be sceptical of branching out like that, but its evident it’s simply a case of the owner-chef being a super foodie who love particularly loves brunch, tacos, burgers and slow-roasted meats. And what more can you ask for but an amazing chef who loves food and shares his creativity and interests with his patrons? (Esters comes to mind as another Hackney favourite experimenting with food under the guise of brunch, with equally exceptional results!)
So thanks Bake Street -looking forward to another 5 years of eating with you!
K. A.
Favourite coffee/cake/brunch place ever.
I’m yet to find a place in London where the quality of food matches up to that offered at BakeSt. The cakes are moist and consistently satisfying. I absolutely love the salted caramel brownie (I don’t usually go for brownies-too chewy for me, but these are amazing), banana bread with chocolate chunks, coffee and cardamom cake yum. Mentally planning my next visit as I type this.
Keep doing what you’re doing.
R. C.
Amazing smash burgers and birria tacos
L. H.
Loved it.
Would definitely go again and not far from the Masjid
G. A.
Amazing coffee, cakes and (halal) brunches.
There are two coffee shops around Stoke Newington with good coffee, this is one of them.
Their cakes are also made in-house, by Evering Cake.
S. A.
An absolute hidden gem right by Rectory Road Station with one of the best coffees I’ve had in London. Also home to the Smash Burger which is easily my favourite burger in town (not too overblown, with the textures and flavours absolutely perfect!). Other menu items are all fantastic too, with a slightly eastern Mediterranean twist. Staff are always warm and friendly, and dedicated to quality. Service is order at the counter and can be a little bit cramped when busy, but all in all this is such a fantastic little local spot and we are so lucky to have them in the neighbourhood! Thanks Bake St!! xox
A. S.
Most amazing brownies I’ve ever had!! The coffee is so good too. The staff are also always super nice and helpful
T. S.
Food quality is good but seems very pricey for breakfast items. And portions aren't very big so you may need to have something extra to be satisfied.
Was quite annoyed with kitchen not open until 10 am after a 30 minute drive. But have to say their mocha and chai tea latte are delicious.
OH AND YOU GUYS MUST BRING BACK THE SOUFFLE PANCAKES!!
Z. E.
A local favourite and my regular spot for coffee, perfectly-roasted beans, the occasional brunch - and for the warm service, even at the busiest crunch times.
The coffee is outstanding, the food is imaginative, fresh and tasty, and the fact that this spot is pet-friendly? Major bonus. Plus there are books on hand to pass the time, which I always appreciate.
It's not massive and can get a little crowded at peak times, but Bake Street has cozy charm in spades – well worth a visit.
K. E.
My third time at Bake Street, and it is so delicious and consistent. The staff are also delightful. The Fritas and the black pepper chicken are the highlight of my weekend.
T. T.
Amazing food and service. The place has a unique diverse atmosphere and staff are always welcoming. I will definitely be back for the breakfast and salted caramel brownie :)
L. J.
I love this place! The vegan raw brownies and Popeye smoothie are my go to items! The sandwiches are always fresh and delicious as well. And don't get me started with the cruffin.....soooo good.As far as the bread goes... sour dough is delish!!! I like how everything is made fresh while you wait!I am always so pleased when I come here and stop in usually once a week!
T. H.
The food here is next level. My favorite is the Huevos Harayana with roti, but every dish I have tried here has been great (Korean Chicken Benedict - wow!) Staff are lovely and the coffee and baked goods are excellent too. No wonder this place is always packed.
F. G.
Lovely little friendly coffee shop off the beaten track.Fantastic peanut butter chocolate pain au chocolat. Friendly staff and Mexican food at weekends
H. W.
Wow! This place is a little Gem. Came for a meeting at Rectory Road Station and tried this place by chance! The Banana Loaf was simply amazing (try it warm) and the chocolate cake took me to a different level! They know coffee and my flat white was spot on! the attention to detail is also great and the service was excellent. Will be back again for sure!
Y. A.
The most amazing fried chicken ever hands down amazing
t. m.
These guys do the best coffee, the best food and above all they have the absolute best customer service. It's an awesome place to be on any day of the week. I've chilled here with friends on the weekend and use the space to do some work on the weekdays, the wifi connection is awesome and they conveniently have plugs all around and USB ports too, to charge your phone. You can tell these guys take customer service seriously from all the small details! Definitely highly recommended, the cakes are sublime!
I. M.
Great coffee! Menu is always changing so keeps it interesting. I'd recommend the slow cooked lamb on the weekend or Eggs Del Toro. All the bakes are done in house and the salted caramel brownies are so addictive! A hidden gem
E. S.
I love Bake St! I have been here in person and frequently order on Ubereats (they're very accomodating when I choose to add or remove ingredients). I know people have commented its a tad pricey (which is true) but bare in mind they are a small family run business! They deliver outstanding, high quality food + excellent service everytime. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area. (One of the few Halal restaurants that offers something other than Turkish cuisine).
T. D.
I love everything about this adorable sunny-colored cafe! Owned by two siblings who are Clapton natives, Bake Street offers wonderful food (the Chaka Breakfast & Persian Mahklout are my faves, but granola/yoghurt and avo toast are great too) and bakes/cakes/pastries - all made fresh every day with local suppliers. The owners, baker sister and chef brother, are excellent at their respective crafts and have created a community gem.
The coffee is awesome, made by great baristas and roasted by east London's own Climpson & Sons. I love their espresso but also enjoy an oat milk latte. The salted caramel brownies sell out instantly, and you'd be seriously missing out not to see why!
Oh yes, Bake Street also does delicious pop-up dining experiences that pack the cafe, so keep an eye out!
F. M.
Came around 12pm on a Sunday. Wasn’t too busy and the service was good. Ordered the fried chicken bene, which tasted super delicious. The coffee was also pretty good. Definitely recommend this place.
A. J.
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. I heard about them through an Instagram blogger (HGAT), and just HAD to try the fried chicken benedict, you guysssss, it's so good. I couldn't stop thinking about it even weeks later. I live quite far from this quaint little cafe, but it was worth the trip.
My husband and I split the fried chicken benedict benedict and their cinnabon pancakes, it filled us both up real good. & was honestly some of the best brunch I've had. Their portion sizes are decent. Honestly, if you haven't already, you need to go here!
K. K.
I cannot say coffee and food is not good... but it's so pricey! 7£ for a sandwich! Not even special kind, just tuna cheese sandwich. Together with a coffee you've got 10£ for a takeaway breakfast. I only go there when I'm desperate to be honest. It has potential tho.
N. H.
Great breakfast options and lovely cakes
J. N.
Haven't yet had a chance to try any of the savoury food from here yet but maaaan those 'zertz! Brownies and vegan banana bread were just heavenly AND the banana bread was moister, more generously sliced and cheaper than the nearby Sazzy & Fran's. I Look forward to returning soon!
O.
Best coffee around. Friendly staff. Excellent brownies as well, if (slightly) less cooked than I would like. Generally everything is very tasty and I thoroughly recommend.
S. A.
Food was absolutely delicious as always.
A. G.
Best pancakes in London. Taste, portion, presentation, everything.
S. E.
came here to cool down after visiting the awful rectory road station, it was a delight, i had a tuna melt! my friend had a smoothy, my other friend had an egg on bread thing, sorry i'm not very cultured, but it looked impressive like an impressionist painting. will come back if passing through, which isn't likely because of the awful station nearby. lots of love x
A. V.
Local cafe, outside seating. Good coffee and cakes available. Reasonable prices. Very close to the station at Rectory Road.
F. k.
Very good food and great service, however the prices prevent a 5 star rating the smash burger struggled to fill my 11 year old....Advice increase portion size or reduce your prices to ensure retention. Also is situated in a side road
I. R.
Great food and coffee here! This is a gem of a place tucked away in Hackney...
B. L.
Great little cafe with a bit of outdoor seating for warmer days. The homemade cakes are amazing! I like the community feel here.
D. G.
You could go to every coffee shop in London and you would not find baked goods as fresh and delicious as these.
D. H.
10/10 burger. No frills just chills! Friendly service friendly vibes awesome food. Recommend!
A. M.
Amazing food, slightly badly laid out making the indoor seating very cramped.
H. D.
Great family run cafe
M. A.
Lovely staff and delicious food. I just wish they were open on Mon and Tues so I could get all my coffees here :-)
A. D.
Love getting my morning coffee from here - super nice and genuinely warm service, a happy atmosphere, and skilled baristas. The chocolate banana bread is unmissable <3
Thanks, guys :)
R. I.
Takes while to get the food to the table but absolutely worth the wait. You will not find better breakfast anywhere in London. #mouthwatering

U. C.
Been following these guys on Instagram for a while now, found a spare Sunday afternoon so thought il give them a try.
Bacon smash burger is the BEST BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, AND BELIEVE ME I HAVE HAD A LOT OF BURGERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. BROWNIES ARE TO DIE FOR, LOCATION AND SETUP IS VERY NICE, RUSTIC/SHABBY CHIC ETC STAFF ARE WONDERFUL TOO, FRIENDLY POLITE AND ATTENTIVE, SEEMS A VERY FAMILY/FRIENDSHIP STYLE BOND BETWENE THEM AND ITS VISIBLE.. IT IS A BIT PRICEY THOUGH, EXAMPLE- £9.50 FOR THE JUST THE BACON SMASH BURGER WITH NO SIDES OR NOTHING, BUT IT IS WORTH IT IN MY OPINION AS THE TASTE OF THE JUICYNESS OF THE BURGER, THE SOFT BUN AND THE AMAZING SAUCES AND ONIONS AND LAMB BACON. NOT SOMETHING ID HAVE ALL THE TIME AS I CANT BE DISHING OUT A TENNA FOR A BURGER EVERY TIME ALSO ID JUST GET FAT, BUT NOW AND AGAIN WHEN I WANT TO TRY THE BEST BURGER IN THE WORLD THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!
J. M.
