This is a very cosy place to sit, down on the basement level but still nice and light thanks to decent windows. The food on the counter all looked lovely though we didn't order any. My friends got eggs Benedict and French toast and assured me both were great. The coffee was delicious. I really want to come back to get some of the cakes. Hopefully soon.

One of my favourite cafes in Bloomsbury! This little hidden gem is a great breakfast spot or a place to grab a coffee and pastry! Highly recommend when they reopen!

The is more a cafe than a "coffee house" as the coffee range is not wide and the baristas are not very coffee knowledgable. Nonetheless, it is in an excellent place to visit, with a quirky location, and a brilliant decor and ambiance. The staff is very friendly and the prices are fair. I can easily recommend this place for a quick cup of coffee and some food.

We were supposed to go to another coffee shop but had a massive queue, we found this one instead and we so glad we did. It's cute and cosy, with great food and drinks, we also stumbled upon the secret diary with interesting insights to people's lives (worth the read).

I went here for the first time as a foreigner and I can say it is a cute and tasty little cafe. I ordered a brownie and chai tea latte the first time I came. The service was quick, the brownie made from scratch, and the chai tea latte tasted great. The second time I came I ordered brioche french toast with the chai tea latte again. The french toast tasted superb with huge tasty blueberries and a mixed berry dip. Everything seems to be homemade which is why it tastes so great.

Came here for our first breakfast in London and fell completely in love! At first you don’t realize the coffee shop is underground because you’re so amazed by the colorful and elaborate mosaic porchfront underneath its cute sign. The patio seating by the stairwell is something you might see on travel blogs or Instagram. Their homemade cakes are all amazing but I recommend the banana nut white chocolate cake (didn’t survive before we took a pic) and their London Fog is THE BEST i have ever had in my life. We ordered the smoked salmon with poached eggs and the French toast. Both were perfect - not too big or small, and the right type of homemade taste. They let us keep our tab open because they knew we would end up ordering more tea and cake. Highly recommend!

You may have visited a basement level coffee shop before, but what about one in Bloomsbury, London? Bloomsbury is one of my favourite area in London. It is a wonderful place full of fashion, culture, intellectual, and education institutions, and every time I walk around this area, I feel nutritious in spirits. This time, I tried a small independent family-run cafe nearby.

Seating: There are two rooms with tables and chairs, which could accommodate around 40 seats. A few power sockets are provided in the room inside, just on the wall under the table.
Toilet: One for Unisex
Ambience: As a basement level cafe, the natural light is a problem, but they have big glass windows and they also put many mirrors on the wall to make the space more bright. The staff is quite happy people, particularly with warm and soft music. As long as you avoid the lunch time, you could get a solo space. Anyway, a small but cosy place to stay.
Cost:
Coffee £1.95-£2.8
Winter Style Hot Drinks(Hot chocolate/spice latte/ £2.6-£3.5
Tea £2.15-£2.6
Fresh Pressed Juice £3.5-£4
Special of The Day Breakfast/Lunch Menu £8.5-£9
Something special on the cafe:
(1) The internet speed is so fast, near the speed used at home.
(2) They provide guests with discounts for staying at the St Athans Hotel upstairs.
Problems:
(1) The closing time is quite early on weekends.
(2) Although they welcome laptop free, in order to keep the clients for lunch, they restrict the time for using laptops in the coffee shop (only between 12-2pm).
(3) Some of the staff might be not that friendly and have bad attitude, hope the situation can be improved.

Great little brunch cafe in the heart of Bloomsbury. Had the full-english vegetarian breakfast, and it was delicious and not greasy at all! Will be going back for excellent coffee and tempting-looking baked treats as well.
Y. M.
Really great breakfast food and at such a reasonable price too! Love the cute little cafe vibe that you get here as well. Will definitely come back in the future!
J. L.
Very nice little cafe off Bloomsbery square with a hearty hot breakfast menu and good coffee. Loved the lively but not too loud atmosphere, was perfect for brunch over a good chat.
I loved the French Toast with bacon, the thick toast used was really soft and fluffy, just like the kind you would get in a good cafe in Hong Kong. This was complemented by the nice sear on the outside which prevented too much of the maple syrup soaking in.
L. L. S. Z.
Amazing place for breakfast, every day something new and interesting. Everything was delicious! And the service was awesome :)
D. H.
Very hipsteresque place with awesome breakfast and cinnamon rolls. Had a huge bowl of granola with Greek yogurt and honey with banana. It is also good for digital nomads and have a latte while looking for things to do in London. I did a research on the Bloomsbury group of Virginia Wolf while at the cafe and now heading to their houses (book lovers might understand this pilgrimage). And the latte was great!
a. S.
delicious food, great atmosphere, excellent coffee for a reasonable price. very vegetarian friendly.
T. T.
I came here on a Sunday morning, about 8:30 am. The place was about 40% full at that time. My first impression was that the cafe was small and the low ceiling made it appear even smaller. I read reviews noting that the place was cozy, but with the more crowded it got, the more stuffy it felt.
The menu was different than what I found in reviews. I think recently they must of changed their prices because everything was £1-£2 more than the image I found. Anyways, I ordered Eggs and Toast (which includes an overly salty bacon) and an Americano for £11. The food didn’t take too long to come out but for what I got, and in the lack of presentation I felt the dish was a bit over priced. I do think the servers were nice and location easy to get to, unfortunately I wouldn’t come here again or recommend it.
S. C.
The food was really good and the coffee was excellent. I ordered the smoked salmon with a bagel
It was no New York bagel but the salmon and eggs were great. The staff were very friendly and helpful and it was a good value for what you get. I would recommend
J. G.
One of my favorite coffee shops/breakfast spots in London. Not a huge space - whether you've got the whole gang or going solo, the will always figure out seating.
The coffee was really good and the portions for breakfast were just right.
D. N.
Very cosy! Nice coffee shop with good coffeeand large breakfast selection, the cakes also looked good.
J. C.
Best little morning cafe we've found in London for awesome mocha and a simple breakfast. Comfortable vibe and friendly staff.
P. G.
Spent 3 hours reading this book here. Warm soft music, lovely homemade food, elegant coffee in a cosy environment - value for money. Great staff, I’m blessed to pass by this place every day.
J. R.
Cute little place, easily missed when passing. Bigger than it looks thanks to a second room through the doorway to the right of the counter. They sell chinotto! Lots of students due to the uni proximity, so be prepared to feel old 😅
N. L.
Friendly staff & delicious food. Lovely atmosphere. Could have stayed all day, watching people come and go (couples, families, students, people 'working from home' - and why not? Would love to work here!) Thank you for making my kids happy with their bonus bowl of cereal! My wife had the best breakfast she has ever had. Happy times.
S. J.
The best brunch ever. Found this little spot on Google maps and it was amazing. The food was absolutely delicious. I had ordered a berry smoothie and smashed avocado & poached egg. Let me tell you; it was incredible. In the end I got a winter spice latte and tres leches cake which was so good. The staff were so lovely, welcoming and amazing. I will definitely be visiting again.
Z. G.
Great place to get breakfast and coffee if you're staying in the hotel above it.
T. S.
Don't walk past! Down a flight of steps in the basement. Coffee. Cake. Breakfast! Quite busy at 11:30, lots of tables to share though.
B. W.
An amazing gem! Love going here for a quick coffee or bite to eat. The staff is always friendly, the food is always good. There is a feeling of tranquillity when you step down the stairs to the cafe, moving almost away from the busy Bloomsbury area.
A. T.
We have been coming to this brunch place for over a year and have always really liked the place. Cosy, great coffee, good cakes and food.
However, recently they have changed the menu and now the food has become tasteless and of poor quality. It seems they changed their plentiful brunch of full English and other great dishes to meals with faster, pre-prepared ingredients and now the food is nowhere near as good as it used to be. For coffee and cakes the place is still amazing, the service is quick and friendly but the food has taken a nose dive. Hopefully they will fix this.
N. R.
Great atmosphere and absolutely fantastic food at a reasonable price. Perfect spot for brunch.
D. W.
Delicious salads, cakes and coffees in a cosy, relaxed setting.
J. H.
Super beautiful spot with great little menu and extremely delicious breakfast. The staff are very nice and accommodating
D. S.
Wanted a change from the chains to meet an Aussie coffee connoisseur. Both of us very impressed! Best coffee I've had in London. Wonderful breakfast menu, my granola was seriously good: a generous portion of home made granola, Greek yogurt, banana and honey. Cozy but not cramped, welcoming atmosphere and lovely staff. Highly recommend. .
C. T.
Haven't tried the food mains yet, but it's a lovely cosy little cafe, not too noisy and the coffee's cheaper than Half Cup a few streets away. Lockdown ??.0 and I miss it already.
H. S. Ø.
Lovely staff, lovely food, good coffee. Lots of delicious vegetarian options for lunch - I had a salad bowl with different veggie salads, which were filling and very tasty. The quiche options looked great, and they do hot food like curries as well.
I also went there for breakfast - found the banana bread way too sweet and not very high in banana content.. plus they'd run out of decaf coffee :/ But overall a really nice place, recommended if you like good quality food and coffee served in cosy surroundings! Will come again.
A. S.
Amazing coffee and fabulous fresh cakes! I've tried out the breakfast menu too and was very impressed, cooked to perfection. This is now my go-to when I'm in the area and in need of some caffeinated liquid pleasure
P. M.
This is a wonderfully cosy coffee house in the centre of Bloomsbury. The coffee is excellent as is the food (especially the avocado and halloumi) and there is also good wifi. The staff are warm, friendly and welcoming.
L. P.
Their coffee and salads are great. I used to visit pretty often when I was at uni. Only downsides are that it's pretty pricey (typical for central London though) and often packed with students (and laptops). Not really accessible unless you can handle a steep flight of stairs because it's basement level.
S. A.
Drinks were tasty, and the food was amazing, all home made too. Chose a slice of jumbo sausage pastry thing and was told it wasn't sausage, was vegetarian. Had it anyway and turned out to be tastier than 99% of the sausage meat rolls I've ever had. Only the mother's beats it.
Only down side was the queue was pretty huge so maybe not the place to go at lunchtime if you're in a rush.
Outside of rush hour, or if you have the free time, I definitely recommend you visit.
G. A.
What a find. Had to look over a railing and down to see the most wonderful Cafe. First I saw the people, then I saw the espresso machine and the pastries and they all looked to my liking, but rather than having my usual breakfast of an americano and pastry I down in head first and selected a breakfast lunch dish of smashed avocado with poached eggs and few other things which were so appealing. My table mate was extremely interesting. He was staying upstairs at the St. Athans hotel which he highly recommended as a simple and clean place. Ironically he had ordered the same thing as me. The service was charming and food very well served. Highly recommend Bloomsbury Coffee House.
R. K.
I grew up with the owners so I'm biased, but I'm also a fussy head when it comes to coffee and cake and breakfast/lunch food. Theirs gets five stars on all fronts. Great atmosphere as well. You will be happy you went. Now for some photos .
J. B.
Great place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Very friendly staff and a cozy location. Located in the basement of a building but plenty of windows to make the space bright and inviting. Food was homemade and delicious.
A. P.
My favourite little coffee shop in the neighbourhood, a sweet little respite from the busy streets above. I came in at peak hour this morning, and the team was racing to fill orders. I had a slight delay on a coffee and the team behind the counter were wonderful. Delicious food and wonderful service. Thank you!
S. F.
The choice is great, the prices are very good. I had a wonderful breakfast. The service can be not super friendly at times. I had toast with spreads which were awesome, although I was not the first one to use those spreads and it didn't convince me much under a hygenical point of view. Otherwise I loved it.
J. L.
Really nice atmosphere, quite light for a basement cafe; big side windows! Coffee was very nice and the service great. Only down side I could find is the coffee and walnut cake was awful. It wasn't even the last piece so points off
A. F.
This is a tiny independent place in the basement of a row of slightly shabby Georgian houses mostly occupied above by shabbier small hotels, but the cafe itself is tidy, cozy, welcoming & lovely. Hours are somewhat limited, being only open in the morning & early afternoon, but the food is lovely if a bit pricy, there are good vegetarian options, & I rate it as the best coffee house in the area (& as of the last couple of years there are lots of local coffee shops).
M. C.
I truly loved this place, I do really love the vintage decoration and the music. The coffee is flavourful and creamy. All their foods where truly amazing and top of the line! The price is a bit higher but it is worth the money that you spent for a portion but certainly tasty and yummy.
J. H.
Our favorite local place - we live in the neighborhood and have been regulars ever since it opened 6 years ago. Excellent coffee, great food, friendly staff and even good wifi! The place is well run, cheerful and very reliable, run by a husband and wife team with long family ties to the neighborhood. Check it out!

Yep, it’s all true. Great cozy atmosphere, reasonably priced food, friendly service. People watching. It’s worth it.
T. T.
Love this coffee shop. They use Allpress coffee beans for their delicious coffee, and they food and pastries is really nice as well. It's very cozy and a bit hidden, with the entrance at garden level. Very helpful staff.
J. A.
Fantastic basement cafe in the heart of Bloomsbury. Easy to miss as you walk passed and if unsteady on your feet watch the steep stairs - but definitely worth a visit! English Breakfast is amazing :)
J. L.
Love this coffee shop. Freshly prepared and homemade food (ginger cake and sticky cinnamon buns are especially tasty!), friendly staff and such a warm, cosy atmosphere. A real hidden gem.
j. t.
Friendly staff, wonderful coffee and a relatively handy location. What's not to love? Slightly on the expensive side and hard seats. Despite downsides, it's highly recommended!

Cute and quaint coffee house with kind staff and not too big dishes. Ate Full English and was quite tasty. The Millionaire's Shortbread and Brownie are also excellent
W. L.
A quaint coffee house on tavistock place. It might be hard to see at first since the entry is in the basement. It is a trendy place catering for breakfast sort of foods. While a bit pricey compared to a Wetherspoons, you pay for ambiance and quality.
S. G.
Great little place, excellent for breakfast. Easy to miss from the street, so it's often not super crowded - though it's never been empty when I've been. Considering it's in the basement level it's bright and airy.
P. A.
Tasty food and cosy. It was a bit of a struggle to get the maclaren pram down the stairs but they did have enough space to accommodate it. Had the English muffin, eggs Benedict and porridge. Free WiFi and polite service.
D. D.
A cozy basement hideaway with free Wi-Fi and serving Allpress coffee, Bloomsbury Coffee House is a local treasure offering homemade, seasonal food. If you're an early starter, there's a good breakfast on offer while the lunchtime menu is imaginative and changes regularly. Cakes are also homemade and portions are generous. I can recommend their rosemary and vanilla squares if you're lucky enough to visit when they're on sale. It can get very busy around lunch time but comes into its own mid-morning or later in the afternoon.
J. H.
Nice bright space with plenty of seating and good lunch options. I had the mixed salad bowl, which was delicious, but the baked goods looked great too. Next time...
c. d.
Lovely basement café with homemade food including good vegan options and a long list of teas, coffees and fruit juices. Gets very busy at lunchtime!
C. S.
Coffee was pretty good. Cosy setting but limited seats. Food was slightly pricey for the fare, closes very early on a weekend I was there, around 2pm
D. B.
Lovely place for lunch or coffee and cakes. Has WiFi and a single loo. Stairs down. More seating than you would imagine. Friendly service. Can be fairly busy.
T. A.
Lovely below ground cafe with healthy food options, good coffee, and other drinks and snacks. Maintains a quite intimate vibe despite being smack in the middle of one of the busiest parts of central London.
R. L.
Nice healthy and hearty lunch, with lots of vegetarian options. Coffee was too cold for my taste (I asked for extra hot) but I will try them again.
D. P.
Really neat breakfast options, great drinks menu and delicious baked goods. The staff was also super kind and very attentive.
K. H.
They offer discounts for all students. The service is very good; staffs were all friendly and attentive. If you want a delicious foods and good value for your money, this is the right place that you must go.
C. S.
Great food, atmosphere, lovely staff, good cup of tea, and the coconut cake is one of the best cakes I've ever had!!
M. P.
The food is fresh & delicious. The staff is great & they make the best lattes we've had in London.
R. A.
A small cafe near UCL. Great atmosphere if coming alone. They also do studebs discounts. I had french toast and it was excellent. Latte was okay
R. A. G.
Beautiful coffee house which is hidden in plain view. Genuinely friendly staff with wholesome food and great coffee. What's not to like?
S. J.
Lovely café, slightly hidden. Really comfortable atmosphere and good to work in. It would be amazing if it had more vegan options.
N. R.
Love this little cafe and regularly grab lunch here. Salads and quiches always great and change daily. The staff are lovely too big thumbs up.
S.
Excellent all round. Great coffee. Tasty cakes. Good healthy food. Nice atmosphere.
L. G.
The coffee is good but the lack of basic customer service is disappointing. I don't expect much but a smile and being told how much I need to pay is the basic minimum. Come on Bloomsbury, don't get complacent.
r. a.
Cozy place, tasty food, nice music and friendly staff
章.
I felt like having chai latte when I was there. It was nice and hot. The atmosphere was great. The best thing is: students get 10% off.
k. w.
Great little breakfast and brunch place. French toast was very good. Friendly staff. We should be back before flying home.
H. H.
A true delight - I’m scared to tell everyone about it because I don’t want it to get overwhelmed- maybe my favorite cozy corner in that area of London - plus the espresso was great
S. A.
Good coffee tucked away downstairs. There are two parts to the cafe with the smaller section only visible when you walk down the stairs.
E. W.
One of the best places to work and absolutely love the cakes and the London Fog (really hard to find it anywhere else) but I just wish they had more seating - never get a chance to get a seat unless I walk in when the just open or about to close 😂😂😂
G. C.
Cute little coffee shop near Kigs Cross & St. Pancras station. It's below grade and the sign is hard to see...I passed it by several times before I found it. The search was worth it though.
P. C.
A really nice place, the staff was really smiling and nice to talk to.
The food was really good!
We took the granola and the smashed avocado.
J. T.
I like the location and decoration of this coffee place. My first experience was a bit disappointing as the latte had a weird taste but that wasn't the case the following times I went and I go back regularly now.
M. S.
Always excellent. Great food, great coffee. Busy, but worth arriving just before peak to snag a table.
R. P.
Excellent place for a quick bite. Good coffee. Wholesome food. Will return next time I'm nearby.
C. Y.
Coffee was great! Salmon pie was ok!

Adorable independent coffee house, not wheelchair accessible in anyway, but is a great place to do work or grab a bite. A bit on the pricey side.

(Translated) J'ai vu ce café par hasard. Mais, c'était parfait. Les employés étaient gentils. Et l'ambiance est sympa, une tasse de café et quelques repas étaient bons. Je vous recommande quand vous passez cette quartier.
The atmosphere is good and the taste is good. The staff is very kind. It was good to take a short break. When we arrived there were four people in the cafe. The cafe went away.

(Translated) Nice, small breakfast café wirklichwith really delicious selection. It was well filled during our visit (Saturday morning), but we did not have to wait. Can certainly happen.
Lies in the basement, so no light-flooded rooms. A few outdoor spaces are also available, although these are likely to be shady.

(Translated) A friend from college in London recommended it and went there! It is located in the basement, so it can be difficult to find. I ate flat white and brownies and they were really good! Others seemed to eat a lot of open toast, but it looked delicious enough to want to eat if I hadn't eaten breakfast!!
