Reviews of Boxcar Baker & Deli
C. F.
Stopped here today for a hot chocolate and a croissant as I’d heard so many good things about this place and honestly they’re all true.
Beautiful interior, amazing selection of pastries and cakes to choose from including some good vegan options.
Also has a nice outside section so it’s perfect to relax and people watch.
All in all a great place with extremely helpful and friendly staff. I’ve definitely found my new favourite lunch spot in central London,
Thank you to you all for such a lovely afternoon spent enjoying all the amazing treats on offer and I’m already looking forward to coming back!
E. H.
A very nice and well designed space. The coffee is so good and so is their food… scrumptious! It’s a perfect place for small groups of 2-4 especially because there is an outdoors area. Not the place for big groups though unless ur grabbing something to go. Lovely place to read or study in the vicinity of caffeine! Staff are nice … especially the ladies… extremely friendly and helpful!
J. O.
Stopped for a coffee and was greeted by 3 friendly staff with bright smiles all the way. Great coffee and great ambiance. Definitely worth visiting. Great customer experience all round 😍👍🏽
Y. O.
Great location, great atmosphere and fantastic service.
The one part they could improve is serving the pastries warmer. Sitting out all day can make the bread slightly stale. Warming them will bring it to the next level of service.
Otherwise, great experience!
M. F.
Great coffee. They have a lot of great food options here. It's great for breakfast or lunch; and they even serve ice cream! They are kid and pet friendly as well. There are lots of little tables so it's better for one or two people rather than large groups. There are huge windows so the place gets lots of sunlight. Downstairs, they have a more chill quiet area too.
H. M.
Really nice place to work or meet someone for coffee. Got an oat milk latte and a vegan wrap, both amazing quality! Coffee was soo smooth. Great service too, the barista was very friendly and they brought the order to our table. We stopped on our way to daunt bookshop. Would really recommend if you’re out shopping on Marylebone High St and you want a quiet cafe nearby.
P. M.
Cosy Scandi like cafe with some sumptuous cakes and hot drinks. Perfect for a catch up or even for some quiet me time. The matcha latte is excellent but the piece de resistance is the amazing pistachio olive oil cake. The matcha banana loaf was also decent.
P. W.
A lovely setting with delicious coffee and perfect pastries. The pain au chocolat was a masterpiece - cannot recommend enough!
A. A.
You should go early if you want to get some of their delicious pastry
Coffee was ok
N. Y.
Cozy atmosphere and friendly environment and staff. Pastries were delicious and they have an original take on them but they are a bit too expensive (4-5£). We visited just after coming back to Paris and although we loved the place, it felt a bit too much paying that amount for pastries so we'll come back when we really want to go for a real treat but not a regular option sadly!
c. l.
Good coffee, excellent food, attractive setting. Staff a bit too cool for school and not terribly friendly, apart from one waitress who was lovely.
A little too self consciously on trend.
N. L.
Absolutely lovely place! Go here often, the coffee and hot chocolate are delicious, cakes and warm food is equally as nice. Staff are very kind and welcoming, beautiful place to sit and pass some time! :) Thank you!
l. S.
Great & tasty breakfast. Good quality of coffee. Will try it on next time. Highly recommended.
A. O.
Extremely lovely interior! Wonderful design and fancy pastry 🥐 the choice of breakfast is not so big and prices are quite high for the size of portions. Hover et the waffles were very tasty and fulfilling
M. L.
Great (and unusual) muffin-shaped croissants and coffee. Price is above the average but does not deter me to go back from time to time as I've always had a positive experience here. FYI it's very popular at the weekend so it's generally hard to get a table outside, particularly for breakfast/brunch.
O. O.
I usually pass this attractive looking cafe when I'm parking up while visiting London. I was very impressed with their service and their quality of food and drink. Please come and visit if you are in London. Only a short 5 minute walk from Baker Street tube station.
R. P.
Super cosy cafe in a charming area. Super cool that they have rounded croissant!
B. H.
Great coffee, sandwiches, and cake. What more could you want?! Warm service and good atmosphere. (Very vegan friendly as well)
A.
I highly recommend their food, coffee and service.
Many thanks to the chef & staff .
A. J.
We discovered this Cafe in the nook of The school drop off in Marylebone. Lovely Scandinavian ambiance with the best almond cossant.
R. B.
Such a cozy and cute place. Coffee is really good, service is nice, place is warm and charming. My favourite go to place for coffee. Love it so so much! ❤️
PS. Also love this place for a nice weekday morning/afternoon focus time with your book/laptop.
R. C.
Really good coffee, I have it with oat milk and it tasted nice. Love the almond croissant in the different muffin shape. Stylish and cosy cafe, Scandinavian style, lots of plants and nice features.
A. H.
A gem of a place- smiling service, great coffee and amazing savoury croissants! Will be back 100%!
A. T.
Great brunch spot. Delicious pastries to grab for takeaway & the porridge and coffee combo always a winner for me
W. B.
**Update**
Been here a few times now that I live in the area and I must say the food is really nice as are the juices! I’ve had the hot dogs as well as the salmon sandwich both of which are superb. The green juice is also delicious.
My only qualm would be that the hot dog didn’t come with a side. I’d happily pay more for a full lunch plate!
**Original** 3
Lovely little space for brunch and juices. Nothing is going to blow your mind, but there are some solid options.
The coffee (oat flat white) was boiling hot- even after five minutes of waiting. The remake was much better and tasted nice.
I’ll definitely be back to try more. Solid local option!
L. T.
The place looks great and the staff are nice and friendly. Got two drinks for takeaway which are both good but not particularly amazing.
T. F.
One of the best coffees in london. They are vegan friendly . Has a vast selection of pastries and the typical egg / avocato based brunches. The place has a great vibe , the service is flawless , very nice people taking care of you. Its a must try when your around baker street.
T. W.
A very cosy cafe with very smiley and happy staff. Delicious vegan soup and also very buttery croissants. Coffee was good too!
K.
Omg amazing food and superb coffee will def return 😋😍 lovely service to
J. W. Y.
This is a treasure you could find in this area, near Marlybone ! I come here every morning, they serve a cup of tea with oat milk. And banana bread tastes just like a heaven.
Very local, very chill place of mine. Xx
t. p.
The vibe here is so good. I enjoying my coffee and kale salad. I was there the whole afternoon working on my laptop ( free wifi till 6pm).
K. S.
Delicious fresh pastries. Coffees were excellent and staff were friendly. All safety measures in place. Definitely coming back soon!
J. H.
Excellent coffee and their take on the standard croissant and pain au chocolat are delicious.
N. B.
It is a cute nice place in the neighbourhood. If you are around the area, totally worth trying for breakfast. Rye bread and avocado was a standout because of the bread. I also tried beetroot juice with fennel which really tasted fresh and went well with the meal. My friend has told me that you can get ethically sourced milk here if that's your thing...:)
G. A.
Friendly staff, delicious sandwich and americano...
R.
Lovely staff and surroundings serving good coffee (and a great Chai), however is definitely on the expensive side
N. D.
Fantastic neighbourhood cafe. Definitely worth visiting whenever in the area. One of the best in the area
E. A.
Best coffee in Marylebone! Friendly and really attentive staff! Almond croissant something to die for! ♥️
R. V.
Decent coffee, great filled croissants and excellent soft serve ice cream (among other things). Agree with some other reviews that the staff can seem a bit too cool for school though!
M. C.
Love love love this small gem!!! The coffee and pastries are extremely delicious (try the chocolate croissant!), the interior is so beautiful and stylish and it’s super rare you come across such incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommend this for a coffee chat or a nice environment to study for an afternoon.
P. K.
Cozy café, highly recommended whether grabbing a coffee or eating out. Absolutely fab latte, also nicely presented meals. The staff is really nice and cheerful.
J. M.
A great little boutique café with outside and inside seating. They offer some light bakery snacks and coffee.
S. I.
One of the best coffees in London, and I am a coffee lover myself <3
The food is also fab, and Nico and his colleagues are amazing!
The coffee shop is extremely cozy and welcoming :)
Love it. Would definitely recommend!
M. K.
Very tasty avocado toast and coffee, good athmosphere, nice interior and navy staff! 100%, I recommend!! 😊
L. K.
A cute coffee spot with a relaxed atmosphere. Had a slice of banana bread and a macchiato - both were delicious!
F. R.
Perfect cafe - amazing food, coffee, service and vibe! Just need to increase their range
J. L.
Only small lunch selection when we came by, but that was good.
D. J.
Lovely coffee, friendly staff and cool little spot to chill for a bit
O. V.
Love having my coffee here! Consistent and friendly service every time.
A. B.
Awesome little bakery. Tasty juices made fresh. Very friendly staff.
D. A.
The cafe is amazing weather regarding the location or the food or the drinks or the people who works there
T. C.
First post corona post! It has been a while.
Oat milk coffee and cookie experience.
Meant to support British farms and produce although I struggled to find any British wines for example. Hard to tell if produce used for sandwiches and pastries also local.
The cookie is delicious. Easy to mess up a cookie but not this one. Wasn’t very impressed by the coffee though. Seen some raving reviews but I was not blown away.
Service was great and 100% supportive for the local business. Corona measures in place but limited menu.
J. M.
Pleasant place but the service is not great. I've been there a few times, and every time, I feel like they seem overloaded with work, and they could be a bit friendlier. The coffee was okay, more on the pricey side. I understand that the job is fast paced and not easy, but with a slightly friendlier vibe from the staff (and more efficient service), then it would be a great place.
D. C.
It's so close to being 5 stars. The decor is lovely and the food is excellent quality. I have to knock off a star because its such a weird menu. It's always busy and great for a coffee/pastry but they have a huge kitchen and could do so much more on the food side
F. C. M.
Cute small cafe with tables inside and outside. Lovely decor. The latte I had was very enjoyable.
J. b.
Have been here 10+ times for coffee.
They have a few different baristas which leads to varying quality of coffee. Usually the main barista makes fantastic coffee but last few times i have been there has been a different barista (perhaps new staff?) and the coffee is undrinkable.
M. Z.
One of my favourite cafes in London. Inspiring interior with lots of natural light, plants and beautiful ceramics. Their bacon made me quit veganism - so tasty. But also loads of veg and vegan options. Great English breakfast and beautiful Scandi inspired pastries - try their cinnamon swirl. Tasty breads which are half price after 6pm. And most importantly, friendly staff and fantastic coffee! Their oat flat white is great.
n. e.
AMAZING pastries and coffee. I had a pain au chocolate that made me regret my recent trip to Paris when I could have just come here! The coffee was so good I had 3 and bought a bag of coffee beans to take home. Very friendly staff and attentive service. If you’re in the area definitely worth a visit. I’ll be back soon!
N. T.
Very friendly neighbourhood cafe. Extremely high quality coffee and food. Nice pastries, sandwiches and salads for lunch and even hot rolls for breakfast. A great place that I stop by to stay a while or also when commuting. Also has a great evening selection, including a nice range of drinks and craft beers. Recommended!!!!!!!!
C. M.
Good coffee but, I waited 10 mins for it. Cause they apparently forgot I ordered after I to went used bathroom.. As a result was 4 min lates for work. I should have gone to Nero. Friendly staff and all round post totty cafe.
S. N.
The olive oil cake is so good. Highly recommend
A. G. (.
Couldn’t fault this cafe - beautiful location and light - interior is incredible attention to detail very warm yet natural with all the wood and plants - coffee and food are great - staff even better - engaging yet chilled! Great job! The new benchmark in cafes in London!
J. E.
Lovely food and a lovely clean well designed cafe with efficient staff. Thank you!
D. P.
Very good deli and coffee. Great for brunch. Main restaurant not far away on New Quebec St also worth a visit.
S. K.
Pretty, modern and sleek little cafe on the corner. Has a small selection of wraps, salads and nice baked goods. Had the bean wrap as the vegan option and coconut latte. Nice spot if in the area.
C.
The staff overall are very nice and friendly. The kitchen is very very slow. Even for simple orders. Excellent new pain au chocolats available. Best in London. The heaters outside are a great addition.
A.
The most popular cake are the pistachio olive cake and the Swedish apple cinnamon pie. I tried the latter and it was heavenly.
Excellent service
S. A.
Lovely croissants and well made coffee - the vibe inside is great too, and staff are lovely. One to come back to! Some other coffee shops could learn a thing from these guys
J. A.
Best Pan Au Chocolat I've ever had!
M. F.
Warm friendly welcome from the guy with the beard and a brilliant coffee at just the right temperature. The banana bread was properly banana-y and not just a cake with a banana skin waved over it. Decor and vibe stylish but not fussy. Cool tunes too.
m. f.
Food was great, coffee only ok and sadly hurried unfriendly service
M. O.
Great coffee, very tasty breakfast sandwich in a brioche bun. Beautifully decorated with tasteful use of all the same wood with different textures.
V. P.
Fantastic service, a little pricey
M. A.
THE best pastries in London. Baked fresh in the morning and so delicious! Really good lunch options too. Will visit for wine and evening snacks soon!
E. E.
Great coffee (and tea & cakes), v. friendly service. Seating outside in a not too busy/noisy street. Unusual discount given to local residents.
N. M.
Best coffee, pastry and sandwiches. Not to forget the staff and service. Really make us feel like at home. Miss them so much
T. A.
Calm and peaceful place to had coffee
J. S.
Lovely, sun-filled and attractive interior layout with a small selection of salads and other items at the till and fresh bread and pastries along another wall. Wine bottles line another wall with fern plants scattered about. Fairly small and hipster brunch menu (like coconut porridge and spelt pancakes with plum and creme fraiche). I got the detox green juice, a chocolate hot cross bun and a salad for takeaway. Fresh and healthy tasting green drink and nice winter greens (kale, apple, cranberries, pecan and honey mustard) and butternut and feta salads (puy lentils, wild rice and balsamic dressing). My one gripe is it seemed my takeaway salad portion was far smaller than another I saw served on a plate for eat-in. The hot cross bun was also nothing special- there is only a teensy tiny amount of chocolate sprinkled inside and the bun itself was only meh. I wouldn’t make a special trip out here again but would stop by if in the area.
A. P.
Best coffee I’ve had in the UK, silky smooth milk, real chocolate in the mocha - as a Melbournian this is bliss. Also the pastries are divine!!
C. G.
Love it. Great place, great food, some things might be a wee bit too healthy for my taste. Great unusual selection also for snacks and drinks. We need more places like that.
K. M.
Very friendly atmosphere and service. A really nice place to enjoy coffee and lunch/brunch. Recommended.
L. M.
Super cozy atmosphere with DIVINE pastries. The croissants are addicting. Absolute neighbourhood gem! Both Boxcar Butcher and Baker/Deli are top spots in Marylebone. These people have a formula that works.
T. M. P.
Pistacio cake to die for. Seriously. I had it there several times. Great, pleasant place.
B. R.
Great local coffee place. Enjoyed cortado whilst visiting eye hospit
J. S.
It was very nice. Just went for a coffee and tea. Had lots of vegan milk options.
K.
I love the atmosphere in this place - the interiors are really impressive. Probably the best coffee in the area - i love coming back here.
P. N.
Stunning sandwich and pistachio cake. Great vibe 💫
R. M.
Foods nice and fresh. My only issue with places like this is the unjustifiable cost. For example I had a salad... and a soft drink... that was like 12 pound lol
G. P.
Amazing sausage roll, amazing pain au chocolate, amazing salads..... everything about this place is AMAZING. I love the decor, staff, location. My new favourite place
C. P.
Great spot
The brunch choices are not many but quality is spot on!
Great when is sunny outside, short walk from baker street and marylebone stations
A. N.

Oh such a beautiful place to be after you’re tired of shopping at the Marylebone Village!
MUST TRY: their mouth watering pain au chocolat 🤤
You can work here as well. They have charging points and everything on their menu to keep you activated and focused 🙃
Also, huge shout out to Csaba, he is a super friendly and sweet :)

(Translated) A good little bobo café with delicious olive oil cake.
The pains au chocolat have a funny shape and are a bit pricy, just like the Shia seed yogurts.
The cafes are well priced compared to Starbucks. Hope this lasts.
