Reviews of Brickwood Coffee & Bread
A. P.
Really friendly staff, plenty of tables outside, food is good although portions are on the small side. Overall is a nice place to have brunch, coffee is tasty, they also have gluten free options, the almond and orange cake was delicious
D. T.
A good surprise brunch.
Welcoming and helpful staff provided us an escape from the midday sun by pulling out the.
A very good twist on traditional English breakfast. Well cooked and perfectly runny eggs, crunchy hash brown nuggets, and nice twist instead of tomato you get this lovely little slightly sweet sauce on a side, all together just pure deliciousness.
Chicken salad, refreshing a vibrant. Solid choice for a hot sunny day.
Both our brunch options were delightful.
Thank you brickwood and see you next time.

My favourite Brunch place in London. Although i live the other side of the river, I always make an effort to get here since i found it just over two years ago. The service is great and the food is awesome! The only downfall is the drinks.... The price is rather steep for a very very small portion. The food however, is great.
D. B.
I love the staff so much here , they create such a wonderful vibe in the cafe . The food is fantastic my favourites are the kumara , pimped hash nuggets and of course the pancakes with crispy bacon ! I highly recommend if you are in need of a great coffee and friendly service !
K. B.
The cornbread with pico de gallo (I added halloumi) was delicious. Light but tasty. The service is quick and efficient and it’s reasonably priced for Balham these days. The butcher fry up, however, wasn’t anything special. Unseasoned scrambled eggs and overcooked bacon.
S. B.
Great coffee but poor service. Orders are often forgotten and needs reminding. Same with asking for water. Best to get it yourself. Can vary with waiters, but, generally poor. Reason could be that most are students and not professionals.
Would recommend to get a takeaway coffee but avoid sitting in. It can be a very long wait even when the café is practically empty!
WiFi is a bit of a hit and miss as well.
However services seemed to have improved post-lockdown because some familiar faces are now missing! The change is definitely for the better! Ruby and Leonie are great and so is T and the new barista. But, some temps are not really dedicated to the job.
Their brunches are great but I had stopped eating there because of the quality of the service.
Some of their bakery addition looks great, like the Lamington (their banana bread and timtam muffins were a great hit with the children anyway).
I hope they keep up the good work for good.

Came here for breakfast this morning. It was pretty busy, took quite a while for our food order to be taken but food came out fairly quickly when ordered. Food was really nice and fresh. Only downside is that I ordered a glass of orange juice for £3.5 and nearly cried when I saw how tiny the glass was, literally was only two sips worth.
J. D.
As a returning Aussie alumni I bounced back into Brickwood for brekkie this morning and was not disappointed!
Best flat white in SW London! Awesome guys, thank you.
J.
Absolutely spot-on. Everything I had was delicious, generous portion sizes, lots of seating (indoor and out), plus WiFi was fast so I could work here.
Had the super salad with chicken, banana bread grilled & served with espresso butter, and a ‘morning pick-up’ beetroot-based juice
E.
Brickwood is always the go-to place for a healthy and tasty brunch. The quality of the food is always high in all of their other branches, with the usual menu being served. Staff is friendly, as well as the atmosphere. You can always find a big variety of pastries and cakes, and there is the possibility to buy their handmade sourdough bread.
l. f.
Great Sunday morning breakfast , good sized wrap with good coffee...
M. _.
This is a chain and this is the best of their places. The place is clean, service very nice and atmosphere peaceful and cosy. It’s good for families as well and I could see in the morning lots of parents coming with babies. They have good changing facilities and high chairs. There is variety in seating - there are high tables with bar stools, normal tables and sofas. Overall the food is good with my favourites being smashed avocado and burrito. Their coffee is superb so worth trying long black as well.
D. L.
Impressed with this place, affordable brunch and ticks all the boxes you need for a modern brunch place. Was seated quickly despite it being so busy, which was a plus. The service was good - man serving us was friendly. The coffee was nice & smooth and I tried the walnut & banana bread, which I must say was delicious. Would recommend.
V. M.
The breakfast/brunch food in here is simple food done well. My partner is a big fan of the Bloody Mary here as the way its presented and the general taste is exactly what you need in a hangover drink. I think the presentation of the food could be a little better but the portion sizing is generous. I know there are a lot of brunch places in Balham but this places really holds its own. Also I must say the staff are at a 5/5 because they're always been friendly and attentive.
S. T.
Delicious and cozy Aussie cafe - a slice of Melbourne in Balham!
k. e.
Really nice coffee and food. Recommend the butchers breakfast! Only improvement could be slightly more crispy bacon ;)
But service was great, quick and with a smile. I would return.
A.
Nice food - but strange service!!
I ordered something off straight the menu but when they served it to me, two waitresses came over and pointedly told me that they had made the food for me, but I really shouldn't order it again and they were taking it off the menu.
So strange!!! Made me feel like I had done something very wrong when I had just selected something from the menu 😅
The place is nicely decorated and has a lovely relaxed feel.
Not sure I will go back.
L. S.
If you’re longing for your Aussie food fix then this is the place to go. The dimsims are addictive!
B. F.
Friendly staff, great coffee, delicious food and comfy atmosphere. Recently added new vegan options to the menu too which is a bonus. Fast becoming one of my favourite spots in town.
E. L. G.
Brickwood cafe in Balham is situated 5 minutes from the station in the heart of the town and offer some great brunch options! It's a great place for catching up with friends or working / reading a book.
V. J.
Love brickwood. Yum! Always tasty, friendly and good quality. So glad they're coming to streatham now!
J. I.
Always a great breakfast here. It's definitely one of the best to visit in Balham. We moved away a couple of years ago and still go back when we're in the area. Lots to choose from, delicious and always great service.
K. R.
Oh my god thank you Brickwood coffee for bringing tater tots to Balham ❤️❤️❤️
The BBQ pork burrito with scrambled eggs and tots was so good 🤤
M.
Superb fry up, good service, and a decent price considering location.
V. C.
Good coffee and hot drinks, however the food and baked goods are average.
A. L.
Quick boxing day stop (it was one of the only places open) for a coffee and a super green juice. Coffee was smooth and presented well, staff were attentive and polite.
T.
Annoyingly going downhill slowly. Cost cutting on every little bit. Cheaper bacon, sausages, even the banana bread has shrunk and the new interior is pretty bland! Shame as it used to be our favourite place in Balham
V.
Nice food and coffee, friendly staff wide range menu.
R. H.
Brickwood has been one of my favourite mid week brunch spots for the last year or so. I went back this week for the first time post lockdown and the staff are as friendly as ever and all the procedures put in place for safety and social distancing are impressive compared to other places I’ve visited during this time. My go to here is the grilled cheese sandwich with a little sprinkle of hot sauce and a green juice with the odd occasional fresh sweet treat they have available. The brownies are so soft and moorish and the cakes are delicious and so rich in flavours.
A. K.
great value for money, good coffee and scrummy breakfast. great outdoor seating on Hildreth Street in the summer sun today.
M. F.
Staff very friendly especially Amy who served me..
Manager very courteous.
Coffee here amazing and I enjoyed my breakfast.. been back twice in the same week
J. D. C.
Excellent coffee. Went with my wife and baby girl and we enjoyed a lovely lunch. I recommend the burrito and hash nuggets with sour cream, onions and bacon bits. The staff was very friendly and nice.
J. S.
My favourite brunch spot. Breakfast is always top quality and the staff are very friendly. Great spot on Hildreth street as well with outdoor dining
M. K.
Enjoyed my brunch very much ,first time eating here ,was delicious and so fresh
D. H.
Good quality and hearty breakfast! Not on the cheapside but you get what you pay for!
N.
Came here last weekend for brunch. Lovely place to eat and drink, plus great food and friendly staff. Also super dog friendly too.
D. B.
my favourite local spot , girls are always lovely and food is banging
A. M.
Best Antipodean brunch since I've been there. Flat white was kiwi-style, 65°, and perfectly proportioned. Great atmosphere and service was brilliant. Food was just great. Highly recommend the mushrooms.
N. L.
Great brunch and one of the best coffees I've had in a while.
K. H.
Very nice chai latte and probably the best smashed avo on toast in Balham!! Staff are friendly too.
A. B.
Solid coffee and food. Luckily managed seats inside as it was raining. I enjoyed The Butcher which was really just a slightly overpriced full(ish) English without the black pudding and beans. Service was good and friendly. You pay at the front til it seems. The one star off is because their toilet could do with a bit of renovation and an occupancy indicator on the lock.
t. b.
I always enjoy going to Brickwood but yesterday our order of gammon on toasted sourdough was very disappointing. A tiny amount of filling , such a shame . We had a friend with us , this was her first time to Brickwood . Coffee was delicious as always. Banana cake was very nice .
C. H.
Many vegetarian options, good coffee, great music
J. W.
What a great place to stop for a coffee, juice and bite to eat. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and the food was delicious. I recommend the dim sum - amazing!
J. D.
This aussie eatery used to be quite fanstastic. Unfortunately while the food and coffee remain to be perfectly good, the managment has seriously let this place slide. As soon as it gets remotely busy the staff are unable to cope. Food and drinks are often seriously delayed, with one persons order either coming 10 minutes before another or both coming out at the same time cold. Of course this isn't the fault of the wait staff, who are always very polite but something has gone seriously wrong here.
C. B.
Good: Eggs on toast tasted great, the coffee was nice and strong but smooth.
Not so good: it took over 45 minutes for scrambled eggs to arrive. To give credit they discounted our drinks off the bill, but I still wouldn’t come back. These places are 10 a penny in London, there’ll be another one that’s just as good but 10x faster.
M. L.
Good coffee and great menu. I had soy latte and it was smooth as anything.
P. A.
Been meaning to visit this place for a while as the menu looked really good. Friendly staff but unorganised. Food was nice but maybe rushed.
Would go back maybe a different branch, nothing against the staff but just not attentive.
P. M.
Just popped in for a coffee and to join some friends who were having breakfast. I've been in UK for about 2 weeks and this is the best Coffee I've had so far by a country mile! I'll be back tomorrow morning for breakfast. The Gods of coffee have finally shined on me. YUM.
T. S.
Our favourite spot for breakfast or brunch in Balham. Super friendly staff, yummy breakfast (they review their menu and add new options from time to time - new Chili is absolutely delicious! Also love their classic banana bread with espresso butter 😋), relaxed paw friendly atmosphere and even if there is a queue, you will never end up waiting for more than 5 mins. Good drinks and opens early in the mornings.
M. R.
Great well priced coffee and the new lad who served me on Friday afternoon was a delight to deal with. Such a honest place as only charge £2.50 for a flat white unlike some rip off joints like artisan in Putney which I reviewed
R. H.
Excellent coffee at a very good artisan baker/coffee shop. Outside area crowded, as to be expecyed since it is well away from traffic.
C. B.
Amazing little surprise of a place! Lovely decor and atmosphere, friendly staff, great coffee and deserts.
C. M.
Great service.. Good prices.. Great food (especially the breakfast burrito) What more is there to say
S. C.
Question: “Where’s the best brownie in Balham?”
Answer: Brickwood.
No more questions.
D. K.
Definitely good food but overall there are better brunch options for the money. Meals & drinks are a little smaller and less satisfying than I'd like.
However it's worth finding out what you like there as there are specific options like the banana bread that are worth going for.
T. K.
Awesome cafe, bakery, brunch destination. The chai latte is definitely worth a call out. The food is lovely. It's a bit of a wait to get in on weekends but it's well worth it. If you're in Balham during the day this place is a must have. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star is the slightly cramped seating, but that's a general London thing I suppose
L. W.
Good food
Orange juice tastes like it’s from concentrate
Terrible service, staff needs training
A. W.
Can't stop going in for chai lattes! Lovely cafe with tasty menu and friendly service. Since having a baby I find brick wood to be a really nice place to visit and can sit out with a blanket in the colder weather to watch the world go by. Sourdough to take home is great too!
J.
Nice clean coffee but sole less venue. Perhaps better to get a take away than sit in.
More cafe than coffee shop.
It’s a dark slightly over themed venue with table service. The walls are faux clad with brick and corrugated sheet and the tables and booths are made from scaffolding planks.
b. b.
I first discovered Brickwood when I moved to Balham almost 3 years ago.
The staff is attentive, very friendly and fast. The food is always amazing.
They have recently made it bigger so there is always plenty of room to seat inside and outside .
I find it nicer than Milk which is next to it!
c. a.
I dropped in here for a take away coffee this morning and ended up having to wait at least 10 minutes. In fact I was standing and waiting so long the lady behind the till thought I was a new customer. I decided to ask for my money back as it was taking so long, when finally my coffee arrived. However there was no 'sorry for the wait', which would have gone a long way. Disappointing wait an service. The coffee was good though.
N. I.
Very spacious branch, especially compared to the one in Clapham. This one is spacious enough for buggies and they have a few highchairs. Foods and coffee are delicious as always. I imagine it'll be busy on the weekend but on a weekday, it was very manageable with a baby.
E. P.
I’m a frequent visitor on the weekend, thanks to good coffee and food options including gluten free. Expect to wait 5-10 mins for a table and for slightly slow drinks service (never had my drink arrive before my food!!). Quite cosy. Recommend their Tooting market one too!
A. d. K.
One of the many Balham brunch gems!
Had the smashed avo with poached eggs, chorizo and feta. Absolutely lovely! The chorizo was nice and crisp, eggs lightly poached and avo well seasoned.
Would recommend going earlier than later as it gets really full. Has more space than Milk so the lines are not that ridiculous though.
S. B.
Beauatful food,friendly & Spotless cafe
K. M.
My go to for a GREAT coffee. Cheese toasties and the smashed avocado is also wonderful. Not too many tables inside, so can get busy. However, outside area is perfect on a nice day.
S. B.
Staff were really really friendly. Don't think iv had that good of customer service in a while. Awesome herbal teas. I did some work on my laptop in here and found it a nice environment to work in
J. D.
Fairly slow service for a takeaway coffee
J. M.
The service can be inconsistent, the coffee very under roasted but the drink quality ok. The banana and walnut bread with espresso butter by far one of the best menu options.
J. W.
Great Australian style cafe. Cappuccino was excellent so we had two. Reminded me of my local cafes back in Sydney. Food was excellent two and reasonably priced for the quality. Would highly recommend.
E. F.
If you want average coffee served by rude staff, this is the place for you.
If not, go to Milk next door or walk a bit to Nu Ground. Those places know how it's done
G. W.
Fantastic every time. Great breakfast + coffee, and the staff are very lovely!
A. C.
Amazing food and coffee.
The place was really busy but they were very well organised and didn't take long to order and get our food.
B. C.
Great place love the food and massive thanks to the young man called T who works in balham branch great guy deserves a big raise
A. D.
One of our favourite breakfast places in Balham. The hash nuggets with the full breakfast are great! Of course they have fallen for the "trend du jour" of smashing their avocados. But I cant comment on that as I wouldn't eat it.
S. H.
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, and the breakfast was yum! Didn't have to wait too long, 15-20 minutes which is pretty good for a Saturday morning.
G. N.
It’s such a charming place with an excellent coffee and food! Not mentioning the staff always smiling and so helpful! Highly recommend 😃
Z. A.
Lovely coffee and The Butcher is a beast of a breakfast if you're feeling hungry.
One thing they don't have is high chairs for kids. Grab a few of them and 5 stars!
R. W.
Great food, great service so I am regularly coming back
E. K.
Very friendly staff, great service, relaxed atmosphere. Excellent venue for breakfast, lunch and brunch. Hash browns a must try.
r.
Delicious brunch! 100% recommend it.
K.
Best brunch place in Balham! Really good range of food and drink and friendly service. Can be a queue but definitely worth the wait! Love the variety!
J. R.
Nice place to sit out on a lovely day in Balham I liked the avacado breakfast and watching the world go by. The flat white coffee was not great coffee kept having to add sugar it's too bitter and one more thing it's very pricey here !!!
K.
Great service, delicious coffee and a nice atmosphere. The farmer's breakfast (I think this is how it was called) was super tasty.
K. P.
Chicken and avocado toasties are delicious
A. B.
Their banana bread is to kill for, the food is great, but didn’t had a good experience with their coffee.
M.
Really good food with great service. Only issue is you can't book ahead so waiting for a table for 5 took about 25 minutes instead of the 5 minutes originally advised by staff.
A. C.
Great friendly service and a nice menu, had the Sourdough toastie with 4 cheeses.....very nice...definitely going back
Y.
The service was not great today. The waitress brought us only 1 meal instead of 2 ordered.
They offered us the drink as a compensation for waiting. The food was good.
M. N.
Cool and trendy cafe with very good coffee and toasties and friendly service! Gets noisy and crowded on weekends so may want to avoid for working on your laptop.
E. J.
didn't have the burger and was told after I ordered. brought wrong drink but the tater tot things rock. hash nuggets.
D. B.
Maybe I would prefer it here if I went at a quieter time. But I don't think that happens. Regardless the food was alright, but the staff seemed rushed and everything I asked for (3 items) was apparently out of stock
A. H.
Great service and the carrot cake is lovely
C. S.
Every morning on my way to work I alway nip into Brickwood and sometime at lunchtime and also on the way home. Some say its my second home. Their Salads are the best. It's a little small , but I love it.
S. R.
Great service and new menu has lots of fresh tasty options reasonably priced for portion sizes.
E. B.
Always really good food, friendly staff. The hash nuggets are so good only thing is the tables are way too small
F. B.
Great service, great place, good food, varied menu. Recommend it as one of the best brunch places in balham.
V. B.
Love the extension! I recommend coming on a weekday, much better than dealing with the crowds. Great coffee & decent menu with some modern twists
f. a.
Received a lovely coffee from a cute gay kiwi boy called Tom and it was AMAZING! Would highly recommend
M. A. J.
5 star coffee always great staff and the food youll have no complaints i would like to see them up the anti where deserts are concerned but thats just me :)
J. B.
Great food and coffee, serivice is good. Although I waited 8 minutes for a coffee when the restaurant was quiet.. and often end up waiting to long.
K. B.
Fantastic eggs & the green juice today! Love the healthy menu and nice cosy atmosphere here.
k. c.
Great brunch, always very busy and popular with locals so get there early!
S. T.
Incredible coffee and extremely tasty (although you pay for it) brunches with good selection of veggie/vegan options.
P. G.
Great service, great organic food, one of the best brunch place in Balham ! The ice coffee is perfect on a hot day.
X. X.
Generally okay, but sat and waited for a menu for ages the other day whilst the waitress gossiped for ages. I was really hungry so went somewhere else,
A. G.
A very nice place for enjoying coffe and pastry. I had a macchiato and a blueberry muffin. My wife just a black expresso.
V.
One of my favourite places to go for coffee and cake. All they're pastries are made in house and they have the best bannana bread.
J. C.
It's a cool place but the food is only okay and the service leaves much to be desired... The coffee and cakes are excellent.
S. D.
Staff wearing masks and cleaning tables thoroughly between customers. Great food and friendly staff
C. N.
Great food and service!
A. J.
My favourite place in Balham to have a ham and cheese sandwich. The interior design is very cosy and relaxing and the staff are really likeable.
S. F.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Cappuccinos to die for!
L. S.
Great food! Really liked the coffee and the service! Would recommend for brunch 😍
L.
Great brunch - especially the mini hash brown bites! Quite pricey but worth it as a treat
C. C.
Great coffee, delicious cakes, really good salami and cheese. Great service! RECCOMENDED 8/10
J. H.
Brunch menu finishes a little early and the remaining menu is not particularly extensive but food was reasonably good
M. C.
Solid place for coffee, cake and a quick lunch. Had the toasted sandwiches last time and were nice.
J. S.
One of my favorite brunch spots in both Balham and Clapham. Must order the banana bread with espresso butter.
T. J. R.
Lovely Australian themed cafe - to be read as: does good coffee and nice brunch food.

Great lunch spot I would recommend the hash brown bites!
D. S.
Great food and friendly staff with the best bloody Mary around!

L. S.
Best brunch offering in Balham! Can't get enough of their avocado/feta/poached eggs on sourdough
A. K.
Great place, good veggie options and swift service. Set in a rustic industrial space with lots of corrugated rusted metal and worn timber!
A. C.
The best brunch I've had in ages! And really friendly staff
