Reviews of Browns of Brockley
F. V.
The coffee is excellent, this is the most consistently good place in the area. Small selection of baked goods which has always been nice. However in the last month or two their pastry game has upped, the pain au chocolat are to die for!!
M. G.
The coffee is great and the surroundig is quite calm and pleasing that makes a delightful combination.
The place itself has no inner space or a covered outer part so one cannot drink a coffee during a rainy time.
The pastries are also really delicious, especially the ones with salted caramel :)
Size of the coffee is the common like in many other places, but it would be great to have it in larger cups - for coffee addicted like me :) -.
S. W.
It's OK I would say over priced for Brockley espeically when I work at Canary Wharf and can get a really good coffee for less money. Area has changed since I grew up there in 70s but its great to be able sit outside along side of cafes and eateries with a calm setting even if the train station being across the road.
L. O. C.
The coffee was nice but looking at the bill it was quite pricey, especially for the size. Also canned water was a con. If you are really being recycling conscious get tap water but over £2 for 330ml in a container you can't close is terrible. Only got it as I had an espresso. This is the reason for - 1 star. Lovely coffee and good location.
S. S.
They have the best iced coffee and cookies I’ve ever tasted. I am still working through my depression because I already finished the cookie.
A. S. I.
I love Browns. One of my favourite cafés in London. The coffee is great, the service is always exceptional and the food is fantastic.
I would highly recommend the salted caramel cannelé, the curried chickpea sandwich and the vegetarian tart (kind of a quiche with, at least, spring onions, edamame, and stilton).
s. s.
Delicious coffee and really cool coffee cups... if that’s your thing. The decor is so calm and welcoming, only thing I’d say is that its pretty small. More seating would be awesome!
K. M.
I’m not a local and found browns via the London Coffee App. Fantastic place! Bright and airy with some lovely window seating where you can watch the world go by. The coffee is tasty and smooth with a good mix of roasts. They only go up to 8oz which is my only small gripe but the taste and quality more than makes up for it. The service is friendly and helpful and done with a genuine smile (not always the case around our city sadly)
There’s a good selection of cakes, the bircher looked very good and I opted for a pastrami toasted sarnie which was quite simply divine!
If you’re in the area - stop by. You won’t be disappointed 😊
J. L.
Good coffee place next to Brockley station. Not very big, they maximize the little space available with views to the station and a nice, trendy, decoration. The catch is definitely the price, as you can find the same quality cheaper in the centre, but not probably in the area. Ideal for take away and a quick bite
L. H.
Great place, coffee is really good too. Flat white with oat milk was exactly how a flat white should be! Selection of cakes & sandwiches are good too. It’s a great bright light spot. I love the marketing of the coffee cups & artwork outside - little details that make it unique & memorable. And done so well. Highly recommended. Overall experience was great
R. S.
The best coffee in the postcode, and by a mile. Lovely little baked bites always available and smoked salmon or corned beef bagels on the weekends. Note: they don’t take cash.
R. Y.
Baristas know what they’re doing. Yummy food. Good service. And square mile beans. What else could you want.
E. J.
Great coffee and pastries! The smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels are are great - good amount of filling! I have to resist popping in here every time I go to the station!
O. M.
Amazing coffee, (usually square mile's red brick) - made with friendly service as standard! Freshly made cookies are almost better in often worth the detour it usually takes to get there!! Parking difficult around there but it's just opposite brockley station.
D. L.
Had one of the best pain au chocolats I've ever had and the coffee was good too. They don't accept cash, which is fine, but might throw some people!
S. L.
Slap bang opposite the station you can't miss it! Nice pastrami bagel and coffee. Plenty of delicious baked cakes on offer. Currently space to sit on station steps where people are social distancing! Very friendly service, fast moving queue.
P. E.
Great coffee, very friendly staff and superb location. Definitely give this place a try if you're in the area.
L. B.
Top quality shot of espresso. Nice little seating area. Friendly staff. Card only, no cash!
L.
Was having a bit of a down day, so went for a walk to get some coffee (delicious coffee btw). When I ordered they also gave me a free loaf of bread, which was a completely unexpected random act of kindness and turned my day around 😊. Thank you! We will be back.
P. V.
Very good coffee, and the banana bread was excellent. Can be a little pricey but worth it.
A.
Have been getting my coffee fix for past couple of years and always been a nice experience. Nice coffe and even nicer team.
L. T.
Great filter coffee, huge heavy mugs & salted caramel cannelle.. what's not to love? Bright shop with outdoor seating, very friendly staff and easy decor. Can get smashed during weekends so good to go outside of the rush hours if you want to make sure you get a place to sit.
P. D.
The original and still the best. Recently expanded for more seating and a loo. The coffee is still fantastic. Don't expect Starbucks-sized cappuccino buckets here. The staff are well trained, super lovely and incredibly quick and efficient. My only gripe is that I often go later in the afternoon and much of the freshly made food that is served (bagels/salads/pastries etc) has run out but I appreciate at least that nothing is wasted.
O. L.
This is one of my favourite coffee joints in London. Such tasty coffee, always served perfectly and with a smile. They also understand if you’re in the rush for the train - nice touch!
The only go to place in the area for coffee ☕️
R. O.
The team at Browns are wonderfully sociable and hospitable 😊
The pastries and sourdough loaves are always fresh and delicious.
They even treated me to a couple of mini chocolate and sea salt cookies whilst I was house sitting for friends.
Thank you!
I will make you my 'long distance local' coffee shop.
G. G.
I don't drink coffee (😱) but I grab lunch at Brown's regularly as I work from home a lot. Everything I have eaten there - sandwiches, salads, tarts, brownies - has always been delicious. I've never been disappointed in over 4 years. Their banana bread toasted with butter is to die for! My favourite lunch spot in Brockley.
A. B.
This is an absolutely superb coffee shop - quite possibly the best in SE London! Impressive coffee, but superlative hot chocolate. Great sandwiches. Airy, light room that provides a great deal of light - even in winter! Highly recommended to all.
A. B.
The espresso coffee is amazing gotta reckon, but suuuuuper expensive. The filter coffee is dead. Really nice staff and atmosphere though! Not too sure about the numbered cards thing to serve drink in customers, is not that a big place and it would be nicer a closer approach to people.
P. F.
Brown's is excellent. They really care about good coffee but without being pretentious about it. Service is great, quick and friendly and the selection of food is always high quality - great sourdough sandwiches (although these do sell out quickly!). Love coming here
C.
Consistently some of the best coffee in London for years. The only problem is living so close that it's become a bit of a problem because I genuinely find myself inventing excuses to go there for lunch at least a couple of times a week because the sandwiches are always delicious and the salads are beautiful and I absolutely cannot afford to do that.
M. G.
The soups are so good. It makes me wish for more soup in my life.
The coffee isn't always exactly my taste but they're so nice and so incredibly efficient that I can't help going there almost every morning for one. You can be in and out in the time it takes to warm up some milk.
C. C.
It's always satisfying to come across a place that truly has it down. Everything I had was delicious; the sandwich was fresh and generously portioned, the decaf coffee was very flavoursome (especially for a decaf brew which can often be a little lacklustre) and the 'cinnamon doughnut muffin' was surprisingly delicious for something with quite a plain appearance.
Will definitely be returning! Be aware that they don't take cash (yes, card only).
D. A.
Browns make quite simply the best coffee south of the river. The crema, the roast and the intensity are all perfect. Thank you to Browns for keeping up the quality!
D. K.
My favourite local coffee shop. Quality coffee, lovely atmosphere and much more space thanks to the expansion into the old speedycars building next door. Great for going for coffee solo or with friends/business associates.
E. S.
Best coffee in town!
Food quality could increase a bit though! But service is great, happy with the place
D. P.
I was pleased to finally visit this coffee stop as my daughter raves about the coffee.
I am sad to report the coffeee was extremely bitter and not hot but as I didn’t want to make a complaint as my daughter goes there often I kept quiet.
The system of paying by card only is ridiculous, never been anywhere in my life where this is the only system of payment and even though they offered me the coffee on the house because I didn’t have a card with me it didn’t satisfy my mood. They are rubbing a business and if they feel they can offer on the house drinks because I had no card one assumes this cost has been already added to the cost of the product! £3 for a 6oz coffee is steep, particularly when it’s not hot and not as smooth as I’m used to.
J. C. N.
One of the best coffee shops in town. Square Mile beans, consistent texture and flavor, the smoothest velvety milk. My faves: piccolo, flat white, white iced coffee and chocolate brownie.
S. K. (.
Fantastic coffee and goodies.
M. G.
Went this morning with my husband and coffee was nice but we also ordered 2 almond croissants that were really hard. Looks like they were cooked yesterday.
P. P.
They have vanilla and salted caramel canelés. What more can one want...
Z. P.
Ah, Browns of Brockley... how you have stolen my heart so! Yes, I adore this coffee shop. So far, it's entirely my favourite place to get caffeine in London. The coffee served in glass cups on brown saucers is perfect – genuinely perfect. And the bagels, cake and donut muffins (yes, you read that right) always hit the spot. The staff are always friendly and so are the customers, which is just as well as you do end up sitting quite close to other people.
J. B.
Coffee is good - albeit pricey - and the almond croissants are amazing - albeit equally pricey. Slightly confused that a mocha is not an option; if the ganache really won't mix with the coffee could you have some powder on hand as well?! I realise this makes me some sort of philistine but I also don't really care :)
M. W.
They've recently expanded the size of their cafe, which means it's a nice space to stay in now.
I ordered a latte, which cost nearly as much as the sandwich I ordered. I'm not sure the coffee warrants the price
B. B.
First of all, they have polite and considerate employees. I can also say, one of the best coffees in London.
D. Y.
Great coffee. Feel sorry for the other places in the area... But the one next door also seems to do well
E. A.
Great coffee. No, really, great coffee! They make it well, with good ingredients & ethically, locally sourced produce. Also love the iced coffee during summer. It's a great place to pop into if you discover you've got a bit of time to kill before your train or a perfect spot to spend a rainy day with a piece of cake - they vary what's on offer but I've had the chocolate cake and coffee cake before & both are yummy. Check out the bagels too, which have really tasty fillings. #WeHeartHitchcock
C. A.
One of the best in South London. Excellent coffee to go with their selection of cakes (go for the banana bread) and pastries. Toasted sandwiches are generous in size and are perfect for lunch.
L.
Great location opposite Brockley railway station. Good selection of pastries, filled bagels and hot beverages. COVID 19 protocol in place.
E. Z.
Serious coffee! And great selection of well made pastries and and sandwiches.
Staff are wonderful and always incredibly attentive.
One of the best coffee shops in London.
S. D.
I consider myself a better person every time i walk in the door of Browns. it's perfect. I don't drink coffee but I hear it's the best around. Banana bread, toasted with butter is dreamy. I'd like to hire these guys to cater for me, they know what they are doing.
M. O.
Delicious coffee and the banana bread is heavenly
L. P.
I had a takeaway iced filter coffee with milk and it was really good - lovely smooth taste and a good size. I’ll definitely be coming back.
C. T.
My go-to commuter cafe. They're pricier than the average, but they get their service, speed and coffee consistency right every single time. Just a couple weeks after I moved into the neighbourhood last year, the baristas on rotation already had my name and regular orders memorised. I love their selection of pastries and Little Bread Pedlar baked goods as well. (Note: they've recently gone cashless.)
E. N.
The guys prepare the most amazing lattes and flat whites. There are also lots of types of sandwiches and cupcakes which are heavenly. I like coming here with my daughter and I hope the place stays with the same excellent appeal and food quality.
I. M. M.
Great coffee and almond croissants this morning enjoyed by all the team. Many thanks they kept us going..
E. R.
Great coffee but no bathroom 😅
S. M.
Comfy, friendly, a nice alternative to waiting in a train station cafe. That said, the place is laid out like a train carriage, I'd get pretty sick of being knocked and hassled by people coming and going when it gets busy, it's really narrow. Anyway, good coffee.
J. M. v. d. M.
One of my favourite places in Brockley and one that I will miss now that I’ve left the area. Good food, great atmosphere and a great selection of reading material. I’m on the look out for another local cafe with a similar charm elsewhere in London but no luck so far.
J. R.
Love their coffee - great place to go when in Brockley. Not too big, so prefer to just take away and drink in the nearby park.
I. T.
Used to be my local cafe and loved it to bits. I will always order the flat white, sometimes with soya milk as well as the banana cake, served warm :) Coffees are the best in the area.
P. M.
Great coffee. The shop uses Square Mile beans which are one of the best roasters in the business IMO
J. g. g.
The service is great, and the food phenomenal. THey know how to make a good coffe, and the milk is never burned. Its a bit pricey, but its worth it. Its also friendly, so its a good place to meet people and also quiet enough to study.
C. L.
Delicious coffee and extremely friendly staff. A little pricier than average I would say, but worth that bit extra as much higher quality coffee and customer service than an average chain coffee shop.
B. H.
So good you wont believe it's England. Best flat white in London, bar none. Also, AFAIK - the only place you can buy a proper duffin (sugar/cinnamon dusted deep fried muffin). Everything here is the opposite of Costa and branded burnt milk coffee chains without the correspondingly onanistic characteristics of Shoreditch and Soho. Incredible. Broca (also coffee/snacks) next door is really good as well.
C. W.
Actual coffee.
Not burnt, over roasted, bitter lava that generic places sell. Staff are super friendly and the food is tasty. It's genuinely a lovely little coffee shop.
W. B.
Nice coffee, on a par with most independent coffee shops. Decent pastries, nice design. An example now well worn formula delivered well. Perhaps a little bit expensive.
L. L.
My darling visit I’ve been going there for 10years. So I can say it’s my go to coffee house in London @remnantsrita
B. N.
Excellent coffee and lovely to sit outside in the summer. My only complaint is that they close so early every day!
S. H.
Above standard coffeé empouriom with views of the BR train station. A little expensive for cakes and stuff but hey ho, it attracts hipsters and winner be hipsters who want to show off their latest 'find' usually, they have the wedge or pretend they do to make it work for the Café owners; otherwise, they wouldn't be there.
a. l.
Best coffee in SE London
E. S.
Excellent coffee (Square Mile roast) and selection of cakes and pre-made sandwiches (New York ruben bagels etc). Cinnamon muffin-donut is delicious.
A. A.
Everyone has a choice in life... I chose Browns Of Brockley, purely for the quality of the coffee which has unparalleled flavour. Friendly service and the pricing is in keeping. A good mix of the community, great initiative cakes and cookies. Simply designed and no fuse interiors! Great place and a top FIVE place to go to whilst in the SE4 area. Along with The Brockley Deli, Arlo and Moe, Jam Circus, Gantry
J. E.
Best cafe in London! It's my local so I'm biased, but they do the best coffee, BEST banana bread and the staff are always lovely.
R. M.
Great coffee - one of the best in the area
K. M.
Really excellent coffee plus a good variety of cakes & snacks with plenty of Al fresco seating in addition to the indoor tables - just outside Brockley station
R. G.
Great little cafe. Good selection of teas and coffees. Vegan friendly if I recall correctly. Friendly staff.
P. P.
Absolutely the best coffee ever. Love this place, as I'm going almost every day :)
T. D.
Great coffee, great snacks (sweet and savoury - the banana bread and also the cinnamon muffins are amazing) and best of all, awesome, friendly staff.
M. S.
this is the perfect place for a quick brilliant coffee, you can chill or have a civilised meeting. the staff are friendly and the bagels are brought in fresh every morning.
N. L.
Its pretentious. Its just coffee. There is a massive queue always while the guys next door who also do coffee don't have queue
P. R.
Want great coffee and in house made treats? Then you better get to Browns. Brown's brownies are the best brown brownies this side Brownsville, Kentucky.
P. C.
lovely food and good quality coffee although it was not nearly hot enough! Maybe we got them at a busy time. Will definitely try them again.
C. L.

I liked it. Yummy pastrami bagel and Square Mile coffee.
K. E.
One of the best coffees I've had.
C. F.
Good coffee and atmosphere, but not ideal if you are trying to get work done because it has no power outlets and no wifi
C. O.
If you are a Guardian reading, Radio 4 listening coffee junkie then you should pay this place a visit. It's not for the buggie brigade and the coffee is flawless.
D. S.
Authentic great tasting coffee 👍🏽
R. W.
Fantastic local cafe with excellent coffee and reasonable food. Staff are friendly and welcoming.
P. J.
Nice food and friendly service. Really great that they've expanded their space as it is hands down one of the nicest cafes in Brockley
S. P. R.
Brockley's most hipster coffee shop. Not bad coffee but awkward space and OMG does the music have to be so bloody loud?
T. A.
A Brockley institution and a good spot to take Brockley tourists, or for more vegan options, go next door to Broca. Both excellent :)
S. M.
Best pastrami bagels!
D. P.
Really great coffee and produce, a more hipster alternative to Brocca next door and conveniently very close to the overground station.
T. T.
Friendly staff
Can get mega busy but the coffee remains amazing!
