Reviews of Café in the Crypt
m.
Took road level elevator down 1 floor with family for lunch into the underground level cafe. The open feeling large space was bustling with cafe lunch diners, within a thrilling and stunning stone arch setting. Due to busy period, it took some careful table spotting to secure free table for 4. We queued to order 1 x baked potatoe, beans cheese, 1 x fish & chips and 1 x beef pie with mash & gravy meal. We took food on trays to the table and enjoyed sharing between four of us, it was plenty. Table water was available from large glass dispenser with tap and glasses. As we finished, we offered the table to others seeking the same. Overall a pleasing experience as although food value for money slightly over priced, it was compensated by the breath-taking old converted stone arched space.

Marvellous place, with a lot of history and friendly stuff. Nice food and lovely setting, a must if you attend a concert, service or visit the gallery
I. S.
Tranquil cafe in a beautiful setting of the basement under the church (lift available for those with accessibility needs). Veggie pie was delicious although quite pricey at £12! Complementary tap water available from a giant water dispenser. Clean toilets.
V. K.
Lovely atmosphere tasty and also strong coffee, yummy cakes. Good prices as well.

This is a great place to go, a hidden gem. However the food quality is not what it used to be. But you'll find something to eat - the person I was with had tea and cake which was fine, but my jacket potato was so so, plus I only had cheese on it but was charged as if I had the beans too (I asked for them to be left off as I didn't want the combo).
K. W.
The server seemed put out that I didn’t want chicken pie and asked for carrots and parsnips from other table. The portion size I was given was tiny for £14 - two bits of parsnip and 6 tiny carrot pieces. Peoples portions surrounding me were significantly larger. The food was very nice though

Handy location in crypt of St Martin's off Trafalgar Square. Food always wholesome. Plenty of tables but can get very busy. Looks good but donation appreciated.
B. O.
They refused to accept cash so the drink they had prepared for me was wasted as I couldn't pay for it. Petty rules like these should have no ace in a Christian organisation. The cashier said he couldn't take it as he didn't have any change but I was offering him the exact amount and didn't need any.
C. C.
A lovely place but I would advice anyone to avoid the coffee, it did not taste good. Teas were fine and cakes were good though
J. F.
Beautiful setting downstairs of this church steeped In history. Didn't have any food but looked great especially the pies. Bought a water but there is free water on site. Nice place to sit after doing the rounds, quiet
n. p.
Great place for lunch and the food is affordable.
C. L.
Always a great place for coffee and cake and a warm place to escape the weather. Choice of food a little limited at present but overall a calm in the storm of central London. Concerts are great too!
K. G.
Just a few steps from Trafalgar Square, this it a great place to pop in for a little refreshment break and a look around the shop. A few main meals,a selection of cakes and drinks at standard London prices.
A. W.
Made a nice change from your typical London coffee chain shop BUT need to move the Q more quickly.
Extra staff on hot drinks needed and phaps a drinks only Q.
J. S.
Came for a Blues/Soul/Jazz evening in the crypt.
Great show and reasonable ticket prices.
Limited menu
J. J.
I have come hete for years and it is a lovely secretive cafe in the middle of London. Slightly limited choices for food and drink but ambience makes up for it.
p. c.
Great ambiance... food a bit pricey for what it is... although good proper apple crumble and custard!
C. S.
Love this hidden gem of London.
A warm friendly atmosphere with tasty fresh food and wines. Great value for money. And bonus is the occasional live jazz/soul music .
M. C.
I like this place. Staff are nice and friendly, it's great to go there any time, especially in the summer to get away from the crowded streets and hot day. Food is good too and plenty of space.
P. S.
Just popped in for a coffee before lunch was being served ... I have never seen it so quiet, usually bustling with people and difficult to find a seat/table. Lovely place, always clean and friendly atmosphere.
L. C.
Love this place. Lovely coffee and cake mid morning, followed later by very tasty soup. The adjoining gift & book shop has lots of interesting items.
S. D.
As the name implies, it is a café on the church floor. But despite what it means (crypts) it is highly welcoming and pretty. The staff are great, the food has quality and the price is much cheaper than all the places we eat in London and serves all kinds of snacks from lunch to dinner.
D. M. G.
Café in the Crypt is extraordinarily well-located, adjacent to St Martin in the Fields in Trafalgar Square. The Café is underground... in a former crypt. Every time I have stopped in, the Café is crazy busy so the place is no secret.
The food is served cafeteria-style, you inch down a line of food items, pushing your tray ahead of you. You select from salads, soups, sandwiches, and a variety of dessert items. Everything I have tried looks more appetizing than they are tasty; a shame, that, as I really want the meal items to be tasty. Today I ordered a 3 salad plate (see photos) to try three separate salads. None were good.
The Café is a must-see, even a must-stop, for the ambiance and photographic qualities of the space. Just do not think you will leave happy or satisfied with your meal.
G. Q.
Nice, not too busy (for central London) place to have lunch. Food was good and a lovely little gift shop too
L. H.
Cosy, friendly staff with nice warm atmosphere. Food is tasty and a bit pricey.
D. W.
Fantastic little gem of a place serving really tasty food and best of all the profits go towards their charitable work..
C. R.
Lovely atmosphere and interesting concept. The food is average. There's a cute gift shop with a variety of little items. You can pay to do brass rubbings.
J. Č.
Interesting restaurant in the Crypt. This is not a five star restaurant, but you can get a nice meal for a great value here. Portions are good and the food tasted good. We ordered fish&chips because it was friday and it was on a menu.
A. S.
Unfortunately I can not say that I enjoyed my visit to the place. I would say it is overpriced for what you get. It is quite loud inside and the food is quite simple even though I can not call it tasty, I didn't finish it even though I was very hungry ( but of course depends on what you choose, may be I was just unlucky with my choice). What you can see on the picture costed me a little more than 20£-salad/cake/main dish/juice. Only main dish was tasty.
D. L.
This place is really nice, although not as secret as the multiple signs directing you to it would have you believe. It's not like they want to be secret! They want to share delicious scones and tea with you, or beer and a meal. Your choice; either way you will leave satisfied.
S. A.
What a hidden gem of a place. I have walked past this building dozens of times without knowing what goodness lay inside. Delicious cakes and cream tea. Really great soups, salads and sandwiches. Very unique location for lunch. Clean, easily accessible bathrooms .The only downsides are that it's a huge, therefore sometimes noisy eating hall, and the staff seem fairly bored with life and disappointed to be there.
A. C.
Scone was good. Hot meals were not impressive. Looked great but tasted blunt. The atmosphere was very cool and nice.
L. G.
Really fab place - a recent discovery as somewhere I can happily sit and have coffee/cake and read a book. The atmosphere is really friendly - a little gem right in the centre of London. I can also highly recommend the food and drink here - fresh tasty salads and gorgeous cakes, not to mention the delicious hot chocolate! One star off just because - being a crypt - it's not the warmest of places. But if you don't mind that, it's a great quiet afternoon hideout :)
R. F.
Great little cafe for some quick treats. Pricing is alright and there are a fair amount of food options. Location is definitely a great feature.
J. M.
Nice place under St Martin in the Fields where to have a coffee or a meal. Quite charming
n. c.
Very disappointed after visiting a year or two ago and recommending it...nice and warm but over priced.poor selection.small portions.A shame.
J. S.
Cool venue with decently priced hot drinks, and a nice looking food spread
J. D.
Really enjoyed this place, perfect for a quick bite to eat and something to drink. One star deducted for how pricey it was but then again, that's central London for you.
T. E.
Here is a good place to have some foods avoiding crowded around Trafalger Square. There are a lot of food menus and drinks. Also There are many seats and toilets.
J. M.
Lovely arched crypt. Only had coffee but food looked excellent.
S. C.
It’s very good experience have food in the cellar, and the food is also good!
P. S.
A hidden gem and a great place to sit and work! The food is nice though small in quantity, there's always free water and ice, and the environment is unique. Slow WiFi though, so prepare ahead if you'll be working on a computer.

A-m-a-z-i-n-g !!!
What a wonderful location, veeeery delicious food and hey folks an "apple crumble" (see the photo) that is awesome!!! 😋
Very fast, professional and super friendly staff! All thumbs up for this place!!! You must not miss it!
G.
If you are looking for an out of the ordinary dining venue, then this is your place. Cafeteria-type service, closes early in the evening. Also has a gift shop. Lift access from street level.
S. W.
If you like cheap supermarket bread being charged at over £8 in your sandwich, then come on down.
However the coffee alright.
3 stars, as the location is pretty cool.
C. D.
Surprisingly large and airy cafe situated in the crypt of the above church. Excellent choice of food and drinks with plenty of seating and lots to look at. Extremely unusual but done to a very high standard!! Highly recommended.
B. W.
Quite pricey, but the £1 teas and coffees are great value!
V. M.
Brilliant cafe! Beautiful shop and lovely decorations.
S. U.
My favourite coffee place in London. They've got the best apple crumble in the city. They do tea mugs.
R. K.
Friendly staff and adequate choice of food and drinks .
S.
Fantastic location, fantastic staff, really good food and not half bad in the price either
S. E.
Atmospheric place to have a good coffee at a decent price.
M. W.
Great location. Amazing vaulted ceiling next to trafalgar Square.
A. S.
We only stopped for coffees but were pleased by the quick and friendly servers and value.
The food looked and smelled great and didn't feel too loud or busy due to the size.
F.
A great place to step into to escape the hustle and bustle of the city outside, have a coffee/tea etc.. recharge and enjoy the atmosphere, service and whole 'round wonderful building.
D. P.
Every time I have guests from abroad, first thing I take them here. a cafe drinking and eating on top of the graves of bishops and other ghosts from the past. And despite many mentioning "is not a secret", the average tourist, sheepishly following guides and main attraction, rarely happen top get down these stairs and in the (chaotic) crypt. An average level of food, an exepctionally cheap dining compared to any other places on the surface! To try, at least once (if not for anything, to take photos of the graves below your table!).
M. S.
Huge. Great variety of food & drink. Check the tombstones on the floor and the memorials off to one side.
C. d. M.
I have visited this places many a times, and make sure I introduce it to friends and family visiting London. The location is ideal and the atmosphere is somewhat vibrant!
The food is amazing and so is the ambience of the place. I was initially expecting a spooky experience, but the whole place was so lively and upbeat. I was impressed! I have visited Cafe in the Crypt close to 8 times and im not intending to stop anytime soon!
Another really interesting thing is the easy access to St. Martin in the Fields Church. This place of worship is a charm by itself. If you're lucky enough you will also get to experience the choir practice (which is phenomenal).
D. W.
Call me weird....but, yes, I love having my coffee ☕ downstairs in the crypt at St Martin's in the Fields. The atmosphere is amazing and beautiful! Check it out.
D.
Coffee and cake in a brick-vaulted church crypt with gravestones in the centre of London? This is probably the coolest place in London to have a coffee after visiting the National Gallery or National Portrait Gallery. The food is also very good.
E. L.
Came for concert tickets & stayed for tea. Being from the states & watching ‘British Telly Night’ on our local PBS station, I was in heaven. I came for scones but low and behold... Victoria Sponge & Bakewell tart!! Both were recipes (or was mentioned) on the ‘’Great British Bake-off”. I’m sure Londoners can afford to be more critical but for my limited time (4 days) this was great @ £13 for the entire tray (that’s elderflower soda in the bottle) & the view!
J.
Great place for a coffee. Now has wi-fi.
S. C.
Surprisingly large and atmospheric space. Well worth a visit for the site seeing alone. Extensive range of food and drinks but at tourist rates.
L. C.
We've been here a few times. We've had lunch, dinner and dessert. The soup is excellent. I tried the fish and chips but unfortunately both times it was not very hot, but tasty. For dessert we had the apple crisp which was excellent! Well worth a visit.
p.
Brilliant wee place to nab a coffee and a yummy slice of cake ....
F. T.
Affordable place with good wine and homemade food. Also has a very different environment. Recommend!
R. H.
In the basements and alleyways of jazz we engage with our heartbeat, emotions tossed and juggled in a pleasure only possible in that relentless forward propulsion of light. Into the larder, hand full of spice, peppers and herb, into the pot, sweet song of the night. Push out into space. Electric web amplified in guitar rhyme stretching out into a ballet along telephone wires. Step forward solid box of delight. Walk slower in case you fall into the arms of infamy. Don’t stop to stare, don’t halt there, hop it. Keep going the tenor saxophone may know the way. A beam reflecting from a glass ball, a pool of floating dreams, squall loop run the changes, snap sharp and clear as a high hat refrain in time. When did you fall my darling young one. The bass line a hammer on rusting metal weaving a safety net while the drummer chases possibilities through the forest. We go along for the ride. Charge the trumpet calls. Into the fray battle worn and determined to end, scattering leaves, wooden playthings and forgotten nightmares alongside rivers of sleep and dance. Here in the Crypt we pray for love and liberation. Slowly now no rush. We are on the hill. Stay close to the underground, hide amongst the curving arch of scrubbed brick, in one place we can step into the unknown. Be bold.

Lovely place and good tea and cake!
D. S.
On first glance I felt it was a bit touristy and cafe like and wasn't sure if I was going to stay and eat. Once I saw how fresh the food was, the great range of hot and cold food and the very reasonable prices I stayed. I had the fish pie with new potatoes and veg. The portion size was good and it was a good, hearty, home cooked meal. I will definitely be visiting again and I have already recommended this to friends.
A. H.
Always a good visit when in London and the meals are excellent.
M. C.
At a special event not fully open so I expect there will be a much better choice on the menu soon.
S. C.
Great, no-frills restaurant. Fish and chips were perfect. Staff a bit clueless but friendly.
C. M.
Lovely cafe in a great surrounding. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Good selection of gluten free sandwiches (can’t speak for the hot meals). Definitely worth a visit, though can get quite crowded around lunchtime. Take a look around the church whilst you’re there!
L. J.
Always a good place to get a cuppa and food away from the crowds

Beautiful place! Gorgeous atmosphere. I pictured myself waltzing regally in front of everyone, my hands linked in front of me, my legs swishing against my purple gown — the color of royalty — on my way to my rightful place in the throne. The teatime meal is pretty good. I love the savory plate (the smoked salmon sandwiches — yum!). Not too fancy, not too old country either. It's just right! The rest of the menu isn't too appealing, and their coffee is quite good. Just ask for extra hot (which is regular hot in the US). The London Christian Singles night is fun, and so is Jazz night. You'll enjoy the gorgeous architecture and clean fun. Be sure to pay a visit if you're in the area.
J. C. K.
This place, underneath Saint Martin-in-the-Fields, is great! The food is good (I popped in for a quick and tasty soup) and the ambience is good. The only thing to be aware of is that it is usually very busy; however, there are plenty of tables. Best thing to do is for one person to grab a table and hold on to it while another queues up for the food!
K. B. H.
Very Nice Coffee shop inside an old crypt , creepy for some people but great for archeology or history lovers , you can find a variety of cakes , food but the most important is the theme :) and a very good staff
Y. K.
Highly recommended. Loved the high tea at a great price.
L.
Nice chill cafe nice apple crumble too
C. M.
Coffee was good, tap water readily available to pour yourself, service a bit slow and tables not cleaned quickly. Prices average for london, not bad. Good range of food and drinks on offer. Some issues at the till with wrong prices. The gift shop just outside was tempting :)
S.
Very nice café in the crypt of St Martin in the Fields, good food and from time to time they also host interesting live music ensembles.
J. B.
Visited twice during the busy lunch time. Both times I had the soup of the day along with one of their salads. The portions are generous, the food tasty ( the tomato, cuke, etc salad was the best version of this kind of salad I’ve ever had, really red tomatoes and delicious dressing). The staff is nice and helpful and efficient. And the prices are good. What more can you ask for?
M. B.
The ambience in the crypt is second to none. Overall the feeling of being able to have a meal or a snack in such surroundings is fantastic. I can honestly say since I found the crypt several years ago it is one of my favourite places in London. Well worth a visit if you want something different.
R. M.
Gorgeous café, beautiful atmosphere. Went for one of their jazz night performances, which was lovely and engaging. Slightly too expensive for what it was, but still very enjoyable. The dinner is not great, but I've heard amazing things about the afternoon tea and will definitely return to try their scones!
S.
Peaceful, beautiful, haunting. Having a meal or drink in the literal crypt is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and not to be missed.
Very happy with the food selections which included vegan and healthful options. The interior is not only amazing, but a quiet and mellow respite from the city's daily hustle and bustle.
C. H.
great location for breakfast, but its London, it's overpriced and this is a bit less expensive than the rest I think? but it is the coolest place ever for breakfast.
J. E.
Was expecting a lot but was a bit disappointed. Given the setting I hoped for more than a canteen style conveyor system of food and stations. I would also have hoped for some furniture more fitting for the crypt, however I appreciate that the church is notade of money. They have certainly fit a lot of people in the space! There was very little vegetarian food left when I arrived on a Saturday afternoon, but the soup I had was good, the cake however was unfortunately dry. And pricey for the experience too.
P. Y.
Perfect little stop if you’re like me and you had a busy day of touring. There’s WiFi, a nice restroom, plenty of seating, and a great variety of food and drinks to choose from. I got a glass of wine, because that’s just what I wanted. It’s also a nice lunch spot, if you’re looking for selection, since it’s like a cafeteria bar.
c. c.
Coffee latte is great , but the scone is a disaster- cold and dry, doesn't taste good😱
H. G.
This is a great spot for a break or a meal. Excellent food, helpful staff, clean bathrooms and all neatly tucked away in a crypt. The cafeteria style service speeds everyone along ***...and if the central area is bustling, take your meal into the smaller chamber off to the right of the entrance (signage says to museum hall I believe). There are electrical outlets in this area for charging or laptop usage. Also, do check out the hall's statues and tombstones on your way out.
N. L.
Absolutely amazing cream tea service for our group. This hidden gem is quite a find. Both great history and great tea are steeped together in a truly unique setting. We booked ahead and were granted behind-the-velvet-rope access to the conical apse to share in our afternoon tea experience together. Things were already set out when we arrived, and all was delicious, including the price.
W. G.
Great cafe to had coffee. Amazing place. Great environment.
U. E.
Nice good quality food in the cafe. Quick service too. Hidden underground, usually quite busy but typically targeted towards tourists. But still worth a visit nonetheless. I really like the decor. It is located directly underneath the church across the road from the National Portrait Gallery.
D. C.
Genuinely one of my favourite places to eat and to work in central London. Warm and homely, with a decent choice of excellent food not badly priced, and generally always reasonably clean and tidy. Only real problem is its becoming increasingly popular so can sometimes be hard to get a table, especially at weekends
P. P.
They have a really good deal: one brass rub plus afternoon tea for £14. The tea was okay and the person serving it did accommodate if you were allergic to any ingredients. My only criticism would be that plain scones (not just ones with dried fruit) should be on offer and anoyher choice of sandwich would be great. Other than that I was satisfied with the tea and service. The brass rubbing was excellent; really appreciated the staff showing you how it's done begore giving it a try. A great activity for children and adults alike.
B. R.
Nice cafe under St Martin in the Fields church. Plenty of space. Good tea and friendly staff, but avoid cream teas late afternoon - our scones were hard as rocks having been kept warm for ages.
J. S.
Great place to pop in for a coffee especially if a hot day as nice and cool being a crypt. We had cake which was good but overall pricey and very busy so tables crammed in so we didn't stay too long. Beats the usual chain of coffee shops though.
S. G.
A friend and I went for lunch last Sunday. Delicious hot food. Two course roast dinner with a glass of wine for £16.95. Very busy but we managed to get a table. Very clean. Servers polite and helpful. Toilets clean and well stocked. Atmospheric!😀
J. H.
Wonderful place to meet, drink and eat, wonderful atmosphere under the archers
C. D.
I was excited because the atmosphere seemed really cool. It could be the style of the restaurant people like me aren't used to, but I felt very rushed along and pressured to know exactly what I want with no menus to speak of before you get in line. It's hard to see the food before you get in line to know what you want and the people behind the counters seem very stressed out and want to go go go.
E. H.
Staff were absolutely fantastic. In fact a particular girl serving went out of her way to help me . Lovely atmosphere busy and buzzing . Good food too. I really rate it for a lunch time snack and coffee .
C. W.
Love this place. It's noisy, huge and busy but the food is acceptable and it's a great place to meet. The cafe is in the vaulted crypt of St Martin in the Fields so it's architecturally interesting and right next to Trafalgar Square. Highly recommended.
G. A. L.
Lovely hidden cafe! I went with a friend who knew the place. It is located in a basement, I think that probably I could have never found this place myself. It is just unnoticeable when you pass by (at least for me). But it’s so nice inside.... we went on a cold night, ordered some mulled wine, apple crumble with custard, mince pie... all very good. Again, the atmosphere there is a unique experience!
a. b.
Food ok. Nice atmosphere.
K. H.
Cafe in the Crypt has gone from strength to strength. I remember discovering it in 2000, on a trip to London, when I don't think it was that old, and I visited it again a couple of times after moving to London to live. It's bigger and better than ever, with more seating and more choices. And it's crowded! I'm so glad they've been successful because they deserve to be; good food and about the most atmospheric place to eat in central London, at least that I can think of.
S. S.
I returned only to relive my experience here from 1993, but I was devastated to learn they've ceased to have tea candles burning on tables. Otherwise incredible simple food section, and hot drinks. Fairly quiet, and even staff to clear tables. Well done. Is it only due to health n safety? It really drew in some people 👍🏼
R. G.
I was invited by friends to a Jazz evening at the Crypt, on occasions lopike that it is closed to the public and only admitted with tickets at very reasonable prices. We had a table dry near the band, they were good and had a lot of loyal followers. The place is self service and there is quite a lot of food to buy, soups and good main courses, sweets wine, soft drinks. People quite frequently come and collect the empties. I only had a soup and a roll as well a couple of glasses of wine, we had a bottle of white between the 2 of us and the third was on red wine, we also had bottles and tap water. A fantastic evening. People were jiving in the aisles. The concert was from 8 - 10 with a little break. I could not say if it was the Saxophone, the bass, the drummer or the singer were best, I loved them all and was bobbing up and down on my seat. They also played requests. I will certainly return
L. R. M.
Very spacious restaurant (rather than just a cafe), with some menu variety. It is usually quite busy, but you can find a few quiet tables on the opposite side of the cafe, across the access hall, where the air is also much cooler and fresher. Nice, clean toilets as well. Prices though not as low as you may expect in a church cafe, but then this is the very centre of London we speak of... ;-)
M. H.
Have been a few times now whilst playing tourist. Good catering for kids and families from a self service canteen. The fish and chips was excellent value for under £10.
Very busy at lunchtime though so worth getting there early.
J. W.
A lovely café underneath the church with good food and a calm atmosphere. The thing that stands out most about this café was the size: this place is big with lots of seating. You almost don't notice though as it felt very relaxing when I was there. The food was tasty and I'd recommend the donuts.
A. F.
A pleasant cafe with a good selection of quality meals. There are usually 3 hot meal options, including one vegetarian option, as well as salads, sandwiches etc. The hot meals are worth a visit and staff are efficient and polite. Prices are reasonable for the area.
M. H.
A great place to retreat to after a heavy morning wandering through the museums. It is quiet, had a variety of hot and cold foods. Good coffee and, did I say, a quite retreat.
H. A.
Had a great cup of tea. Noisy place but you don’t find any place like it
M. W.
I'm over the moon I finally got myself down to the cafe. An excellent spot with tasty, warming food. Even a vegan option daily! I recommend stopping by when you're in the area.. but if you aren't it's worth the journey. Check out their website for this month's menu.
L. 1.
The crypt is old good history. Had live music
L. T.
Love this Café, especially before a music concert in the church of St Martin in the Fields. If the concert starts at 19h30, its best to get there before 6 pm for a bit to eat. It does tend to get very busy with a queue for food by 6 pm. I had a delicious veggie curry soup with a roll for £4.95. There are lovely full meals that looked amazing - I'll try that next time. There are clean toilets and there's a donation box at the entrance, though it's not forced.
A. P.
So we enjoyed our time here, but the hours listed aren't completely correct. On Wednesday is jazz night and it's not just a cute themed event but a ticketed thing you need to pay extra for. We saw the late hours and decided to check it out for dinner but they almost didn't let us in. We're not sure how the cafe normally operates as we were there for what felt like a private event and we had to sit way in the back at certain tables and it was a little weird that it wasn't more widely advertised that the cafe actually closes at 6pm on Wednesday. But we got to eat and the food was decent. Really, you should come here for the atmosphere because it's very unique and mildly eerie.
R. G.
A bit of a gem in Central London, a canteen style restaurant with better than average food at a great price. Only a small gripe, the sandwich selection was a little too gourmet for my two nephews. Perhaps a simpler selection for children should be provided.
F. M.
it's the 'cafeteria style' of cafe that you often encounter at listed buildings and the like - take a tray, and a choice of hot foods, cakes etc., then go through the checkout. I had a coffee and it was fine, and not expensive. So not a fine dining thing at all, but seemed well run and organised. There's plenty of tables, and clean toilets with baby change facilities in the disabled.
The space is quite special (though a bit macabre) - nice old vaults, and gravestones in the floor. Lovely and cool on a warm summers day.
I'd recommend it - not for the food, but for the atmosphere.

Visiting from Manchester and found this beautiful coffee shop. The name was intriguing so we popped in for a coffee. Such a beautiful and unusual venu and was pleasantly surprised with the interior. The freshly cooked food looked amazing and generous portions too. Prices were very reasonable for a London location and enjoyed our visit. Staff were very polite and helpful. At the tills when a cashier decided to change my cuppachino as it was not made correctly. Excellent service before paying.
F. t.
I really love how they list all the allergens and was very pleased to find something that was both gf and dairy free which is really hard to find. Its noisy but in a good way and the staff was friendly and helpful. Plus thought the design was nice
M. S.
Cafe in the crypt is a good place to get away from the London crowds. Food is good and sensibly priced. It's not former, but has a good selection of sandwiches and traditional English food. Being underground the temperature is always nice and cool. Worth a visit.
J. G.
Overpriced but it's in a nice setting
S. H.
Very tasty food is served. Lots of choice available. Coffee was lovely. It would have been 5 stars but the staff serving were not particularly welcoming and in fact all looked rather miserable
D. H.
Ok will admit first visit was decades ago when there was much less lighting. The 'new' look is nice but i liked it before. Now if you go make sure you get the apple crumble. I am sure it is healthy it has apples
s. r.
It's ok. Don't get me wrong, I love what the guys are doing here and I love it's decor and the fact that it's under Trafalgar Square. Unfortunately it was very expensive - especially considering the coffee was just pumped out of a pre made container. No milk was offered to me either. A small glass bottle of coke cost over £2. The staff serving were all incredibly friendly and it's amazing that a place like this exists where you can pop in to use the loo or grab a glass of water. Unfortunately it was also very warm (but it is literally in a Crypt I suppose).
S. B.
Yummy and not too expensive. I recommend the fish and chips and desserts. They do have several yummy gluten free options, as well.
Ask about the claw marks on the side of one of the pillars - it certainly lends intrigue!
K. P.
A really nice cafe hidden away in this central location. Just didn't know it was here, till taken by a friend today.
Great range of food and drinks and learned of the Wednesday Jazz sessions too! 😊
Will be back.
M. H.
Had a great sandwiches, cake and cup of tea. Good selection dispite it being after 2pm.
Prompt service, nice atmosphere in the cafe lots of people there eating. It was fun.
H. G.
For a fast, light lunch, this is probably the best place to go in the Trafalgar Square area. It is spotlessly clean, efficiently run, self-service, with excellent choice of daily soups -- mine was a delicious, and large, bowl of carrot and coriander. The apple crumble dessert was outstanding.
m. t.
Lunch in the crypt- a little known haven we love!
K. P.
You could go here just for the incredible location & atmosphere ... however the food always proves rather special too. Having interesting salads available with vegan opportunities is a real winner. Good value for money.
A.
It was a great place to visit and explore however the coffee was terrible. It tasted bitter and burnt. You would think a great place like this would serve decent coffee. Although their Christmas pudding was good!
C. V.
Really good food, kind persons 😊
S. T.
I ate here during a Christmas visit in 2005. Things here don't change much - which is totally awesome! We had the best, most affordable meal December 23rd and it was magical. The surroundings are awe-inspiring as opposed to spooky - though your table will likely be atop a marked grave, centuries old. Seriously not to be missed.
L. Č.
My favorite place in central London, wide range of food and drinks, jazz evenings, many good deals, an excellent place for pre-theatre dinners, family gatherings, business meetings (just make sure you buy something and you can stay fairly long), wonderful and attentive staff, opened from dusk to dawn and beyond.
D. S.
I love the architecture and the fact that it's at a convenient place to meet friends while still somehow hidden right on Trafalgar Square. Menu doesn't impress with anything spectacular (except the apple pie maybe) but I don't think this is the only reason people would come here. The ambiance is very pleasant and I think I will pop in for their Wednesday evening of live jazz music very soon.
Z. W.
Good place to have a reasonable quality meal at a reasonable price. Self service, so you can eat and go. Comfortable pleasant surroundings. Very popular especially early evening so get there before six to get a seat.
I. L.
Really nice Cafe just out of the bustle of Trafalgar square. Lovely food choices and quality at reasonable prices. Place has a nice feel and also has excellent toilet facilities. Good cause taboot.
P. J.
Value for money. Fantastic architecture! We had to clear out early for the incoming jazz club, but that was ok. Located at Trafalgar Square goodness gracious! Friendly indeed.
I. Z.
It's always a nice place to break and reset in a London stroll... However this Sunday pm the place was hectic, the cashiers in a foul mood presumably overworked. However, we will still stop here every time for a tea and scones
P. S.
Excellent...go. I'm not sure why I haven't been before but I will definitely go back.
Nice food...not cheap but worth it....and the venue is great. Friendly staff too.
J. B.
I love this funky little eatery. My Mum and I have been twice whilst in London and it is a tasty, cheap place with a bit of atmosphere. I don't understand the negative reviews, if you want a five star restaurant then you pay the price.
L. F.
Average coffee, cool place, good price.
J. F.
Nice place for breakfast. Great location.
T. B.
Charming place--the floor is made out of old tombstones in the basement of a church, but the furniture is modern and simple. Cafeteria-like service, and the food is very English--coronation chicken, that sort of thing--and actually very, very abundant and tasty. Not too expensive. Always full and busy, and you can then go to the boutique and purchase concert tickets--Bach by candlelight, etc. You need to stop by this place.
A. A. M.
Very happy with the food selections which included vegan and healthful options. The interior is not only amazing, but a quiet and mellow respite from the city's daily hustle and bustle.
D. Q.
Went for the jazz evening and saw the fabulations. The whole thing was fantastic. We had food which was really nice and the atmosphere was just brilliant. Would have liked a bit more space to have a dance
E. W.
It gets very crowded but it is such a convenient place to stop for lunch, just off Trafalgar Square. The restaurant is in the crypt and there is a slightly spooky atmosphere but friendly staff and filling, reasonably good food at a reasonable price. It does get quite busy and noisy so go early or late.
O. W.
The ambience is perfect for informal lunch, or brunch on a shopping day and don't even get me started on the live music evenings - best way to unwind in a most elegant, pleasant way. It's centrally located, but still tucked away for a sense of intimacy and adventure. The menu is delightful, prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is definitely unique.
J.
I enjoyed it. A bit of creepy atmosphere but that's what you're there for right? Its part of some museum so the prices are in no way cheap. But the food isn't bad at all (just a bit overpriced). Still, definitely worth the go.
e.
Good food, interesting ambience. Quite crowdy.
J. K.
Clean, cheerful, and filling. You will get enough to eat. Consider sharing. Interesting to eat in the crypt, but beyond the graves beneath you and the vaulted brick ceiling, you are in a cafeteria. You will be nearby the concert you are attending. Women should use the restroom more than 15 minutes before the concert to avoid the line.
C. H.
Nice place for a break for lunch
V. D.
We only had a coffee but they were fast and friendly. The food smelled nice and the place was really interesting. Busy but with enough space so you can sit down any time.
H. L. P.
When my paramour said that we were going to see Café in the Crypt, I had visions of a rather effete goth band playing jazz covers. Imagine my surprise to discover this restaurant deep in the subterranean depths of Central London. Our fare was substantial; a generous serving of roast beef replete with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and vegetables. I was pleased that the tea was served in pots, although as a connoisseur, I would have preferred tea leaves.
I have deducted a star for the bread and butter pudding which was too rich - and surprisingly chocolatey. However, perhaps this was simply recompense for our gluttony - one should not commit any of the deadly sins in such an environment, and we were guilty of transgressing at least two.
J. B.
An excellent meeting place as well as eatery. Spoil yourself and try their apple crumble and custard - awesome. If like me you're not a huge eater then just have that! Promise it keeps you going for hours.
J. H.
Lovely cafe. We had afternoon tea, which at £9.95 each was well worth it. Cake was lovely. Staff were polite and chatty. Definitely a hidden gem.
R. H. P.
Amazing place to enjoy slow relax with great food and cold or hot drink and desert .
b. c.
Beautiful curved / arched ceilings and old tombstones in the floor. The food is basic but delicious - traditional hot food! It's basic and cheap, cafeteria style with a pleasant atmosphere. Money raised goes to the upkeep of St Martins in the Field
M. H.
Great food and a great space for meeting friends. In the crypt there is a wonderful selection of british food and you can find a good hearty pudding with custard. They're sunday dinners are renowned, or should be. If your not scoffing food, then you can hear some great great jazz in the evenings too. the staff are polite and there is a nice shop next door.
P. F.
Is this the most atmospheric eatery in London? Surely not many could beat it, nestled in the crypt of St Martin in the Fields, all stone arches and mood lighting. It doesn't just rely on this magnificent setting to wow visitors, though - the food is well priced and delicious, making this something of a hidden gem, as surprisingly, it isn't overcrowded.
Entrance is accessible to all thanks to a lift, which is very welcome. There are a few activities for small people (or the young at heart!) to do in the foyer area, like brass rubbing and colouring in. The main cafe itself has a lot of space, and it's kept clean and well organised by what I'm lead to believe are largely volunteer based staff.
The best time to visit is winter, when a hot soup down in the bowels of the earth is a real treat.
E. L.
Lovely establishment in the centre of a very busy landmark area., you will find this below ground level just to the east side of trafalgar Square. Good choice of food available, not a cheap choice but the ambience makes up for the cost of the fayre on offer.
Y. K.
Cafe in the Crypt provides good food at a reasonable price. It has a cafeteria style where you get your own tray and load it up, then take it to the till to pay. Always plenty of seating, good if you're in the area and want a nice bite to eat before moving on somewhere else. The apple crumble with custard is particularly yummy.
B. F.
Most excellent place for a cup of coffee or tea and shop thier boutique.
M. V.
Really nice hidden little cafe is a pretty spectacular setting with a great atmosphere. Food is decent and price is good.
Would definitely recommend.
E. K.
Quirky location ( crypt!) with nice inexpensive canteen style food just near Trafalgar square. Can be busy on the nice day. Also don't miss giftshop, very creative presents.
J. S.
Food is pretty average, but it's not meant to be the best for a tourist trap area. The atmosphere though is pretty nice when it's not too crowded. It's a good location for when you just need some food.
E. D.
Lovely place but the service for food and beverages is ridiculous. There is only one queue which means you have to wait ages if just want a tea or a coffee. Surely it would be sensible to have one queue for food and another for people who just want a tea or coffee.
C. C.
I was really intrigued by this whole "crypt" thing. But in a city of historical locations, and underground wonders, this crypt falls a bit short. It is indeed and old crypt space, but with so much modern furniture and lighting that I could confuse it for Olive Garden. The food is buffet style, pre-prepared, and the coffee tastes the same. It's overpriced for what you get, and frankly, not really worth it. It is spacious, though, so groups would probably do all right here.
Just not the experience I was expecting...
C. C.
Fabulous place in a historic building. The Crypt serva delicious food and beverages throughout the day and often hosts musical events as well as the church proper (Saint Martin in the Field). And those events are really special and different, so having something great to eat, or dessert and a beverage while enjoying live musicisa very special treat, not to be missed.
The venue is handicap accessible via lift, handicap accessible bathrooms and facilities, and great public transportation availability by bus, tube or train. Highly recommended
M. V.
went there with the family. It had a very good atmosphere but is a little crowded at times. it is a cafeteria style service so you do not get that much interface with the staff. The food was very good considering that it was fairly cheap. definitely a place I would visit again if I had the chance
s. S.
Very atmospheric place to eat. There is a reasonable choice of hot dishes and quick bites like sandwiches. It's not expensive and there are often deals if you want to have something quick, like soup followed by scrumptious apple crumble and custard. At lunchtime it's busy and can be very crowded. I prefer to go outside of peak times.
The entrance to the Crypt is via a modern spiral staircase, or you can use a glass fronted lift if you prefer.
A. M.
Best burnt chocolate mousse, lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff. Buffet was alright....it was very busy and we were there at 5ish.
Came back later during a concert recital and it was just lovely!
E. K.
Used to be better, few decades ago. Now it's not that cheap, but still a decent place to eat in central London. Very touristy but the cryptic atmosphere is an added value.
G. R.
Interesting place, the food is ok.
R. R.
Excellent coffee and cakes! Though I didn't have a meal they looked great and smelled beautiful. Nice clean toilets too.
B. F.
Brilliant, wonderful and marvellous
K. C. A.
Nicely tucked away in a busy touristy area. The space is nice. They lose a star because the staff aren't all that welcoming. I've been there twice in the post couple of weeks and they just seem so miserable.
R.
This place is literally a crypt the walls have crypts in them The floors have four by eight slabs which are crypts, the names have been worn off over time with use. Good food by the way
A. P.
Unusual place to have a cuppa. The cakes were ok, not brilliant but it really redeems itself if you walk to the far end of the crypt where the tables are quiet. An oasis of calm in London.....
J. R.
The café in the crypt at St-Martin's-in-the-fields in Tralfalger square is a very good café in a fantastic and historic location.
The food is reasonably priced and very tasty.
The café is a good place to meet people in London.
It's especially good to visit at Christmas when the trees are up.
C. L.
Quite an expansive underground cafe with interesting vaulted ceilings. A little cold and can be busy but has a good range of hot food and drinks and is large enough that you can normally find seats.
R. W.
Great place to pick up a good value meal if you're in the area. Very cool environment, literally a crypt. The food is self serve, very good quality at a great price. Worth a visit.
T. C.
Great spot for lunch.
Do an excellent "nursery food" deal, cottage pie and veg, followed by crumble and custard. Not possibly ideal if you're working in the afternoon.
M. D.
Cafe in the Crypt is under Saint Martins Inn Fields church is very popular with Londoners and tourist alike there is a great sense of history here as you walk down the spiral staircase a recent not the original entrance onto the tombstone floors and the vaulted arched ceilings are impressive there is a lot of history here on display, the iaa sandwich and salad section as well as a cake and pasty section then onto the hot mains and hot deserts the food is pretty good and the cafe has a lo Ely ambience about it, highly recommended.
J. G.
Back in 2014, I came upon this unusual underground café, had a lovely scone with tea. The ambiance was quite nice, and would highly recommend this special place. Excellent friendly service.
G. R.
Food is good. It is well set out, with plenty of space. However, although there is a lift/elevator, it is a place that needs visitors to have some mobility.
J. C. M.
Extremely nice place, with a cozy atmosphere. Tasty home made food and friendly service. I'll go in every visit to London.
S. S.
I have been here several times and never miss it when visiting both The National and The Portrait Galleries. Food always good, prices fine and atmosphere pleasant.
D. S.
Very busy, very popular place, but high turnaround so didn't wait long for a table. All the food is freshly cooked. Atmospheric venue.
A. H.
Had late lunch here today, Friday 8th April, lovely food, great ambience. The shop too is good. On the way out spotted a chamber orchestra concert was on in the church itself in the evening, so got a ticket for that (candle-lit Vivaldi et al, excellent), and was back in the café at the interval. I especially want to mention one of the waitresses, Wendy, who was so helpful to me. I'm disabled, though not obviously so, and she couldn't have been kinder.
H. D.
The cafe in the crypt is quiet nice. They have a relatively large selection of food. The cakes tend to be pretty nice.
S. H.
Nice food, great choice. Staff not particularly friendly or welcoming. In fact some looked bored witless
T. R.
A very good reliable venue to meet friends for a meal or if you just a place to stop, rest, eat or use the toilet. There is wifi. Convenient location in Central London, opposite Trafalgar Square, close to Leicester Square Underground Stations,, Charing Cross Station, Embankment Station and buses to all parts of London.
S. J.
My friend and I had lunch in this restaurant last week. I had the soup, which was billed as carrot. The soup was disgusting. A horrible yellow color, thin, watery and no taste. This was my second bad experience of soup at this cafe, there won,t be a third.
My friend a vegan had the vegetarian dish and wanted broccoli as a extra, but was told rudely that she could only have the salad.
I have an eating disorder and choose soup as something I can eat with no problem
M. R.
Very nice place with superb usage of the environment. Cafe is very big with high ceiling and with the interior that does fit in the picture. Service is good and prices are moderate.
L. P.
A lovely cafe in a fantastic central location. It's a large space so you can usually find a table. I like the salads and the scones. Do look around the back of the cafe which has a small museum and a statue of Henry Croft - London's first pearly king.
A. L.
This cafe has some stunning Georgian architecture. The food and drink provide affordable dining in a Central location. Awarded Les Routiers Cafe of the Year Award 2012. This cafe is one of London's hottest music venues featuring performances ranging from classical, swing to jazz, from UK's finest musicians.
M. F.
Very cool underground cafe in a crypt. We had a cream tea and it was great and inexpensive for London. Would definitely recommend for it's unique atmosphere.
C. F.
The place is amazing! Being able to have lunch in an crypt is quite something. The food choice was ok; the quality wasn't amazing but it was good
Free wifi so that's a plus!
M. J.
Good value for central London. Historic setting.
L. B.
I would certainly have like to see a clearer menu, as it was difficult to see what was available. The atmosphere is catching, although it was difficult to focus on when there isn't air-conditioning and the shade temperature is 38 degrees C!
M. F.
Very good place with a very good ambience, optimal hygienic conditions and fresh food items and drinks . The prices are reasonable, the service is prompt and punctual and the staff is highly professional and friendly.
S. C.
I have ordered a cappuccino in here which taste is okay. But it may not be a perfect place to study or work, bit noisy with bad signal. The service in here is good :)
A. D.
Love this cafe, a joy to be in under the vaulted ceilings. Calm atmosphere and good food. A good gift shop too, great at xmas for small gifts etc.
H.
Great coffee and cake
A. C.
The location is incredible and price are quite fair, considering that you are in the London city center.
Food is delicious too.
Crowdy, expect to wait before to get a table.
H. V.
A great find in the middle of the busyness above. It's always busy busy feels like a haven. A good choice of healthy and different salads but not wholesome options available.
W. L.
I went to The Crypt for a jazz night, which turned out to be a great idea - the curved brick ceilings and stone floor make the music sound amazing. There is a lot of space for the band to move around, and the food was good.
G. H.
Nice underground cafe with lots of seating.
Only negative is that the food is a little over priced but it's typical of central London prices
N. P.
Beautiful place, lovely atmosphere and a good variety of excellent food and drink.
I've been going for years and always visit if I'm in the area.
s. v.
A great place for lunch, tea or dinner, a good choice of vegetarian food. The staff are polite and helpful, in pleasent and historical surroundings.
C. S.
St Martin Afternoon tea = recommended.
Had coffee, 2 small sandwiches (egg, salmon), carrot cake, chocolate cake & scone with jam and cream. 10.95 pound
A. D. P.
Delicious meals and mysterious atmosphere!! Very cozy! I always go there every time in London. Dont miss it! :)
M. B.
Great gem hidden in the midst of Trafalgar Sq. They always have a vegetarian option. Ideal for lunch whilst walking about in the west end.
B. C.
Such a warm, calm space despite the bustle and murmur of people. Lovely food and drink, pretty good value for Central London, and supporting great causes.
P. B.
Great place to visit. Wonderful architecture. Food enjoyable, either coffee & cake or something more substantial. Lots to see down there in the shop and gallery.
G. M.
Very nice place and good food
R. H.
Cool place to grab a quick bite in Trafalgar Square and wasnt too crowded. Afternoon tea with all the fixings was only £10, good for a touristy area
A. S.
After all these years still one of the best
M. A.
Love this place... always happy to have a coffee or eat here. Atmosphere is brilliant and I love the vaults. Friendly staff as well.
D. H.
Good, central venue for meeting up with friends. Beautiful underground cafe with good food options. Pricey, but this is London!
P. W.
Historical, ancient building, worth visiting just for the architecture.get a drink while you're here. Plus the soup is good.
S. M.
Great little cafe! Very unique location and the pastry I had was tasty. Definitely worth visiting.
j. d.
I've never seen more than a handful of people here. That's a shame because it's such a wonderful experience. The food is fantastic, the service is great, and the atmosphere is unlike anything you'll find anywhere else.
M. S.
A perfect place to grab a coffee away from the busy streets of central London. Really nice little atmosphere & fully accessible for wheelchair users.
A. V.
Nice atmosphere, a bit crowded on weekends, but roomy enough to find a spot. Great for a combo like cream tea
M. T.
A great place to eat in central London. Reasonable prices, plain but delicious food and a great atmosphere.
M. D.
Great place. Lovely environment under St Martin's and great food at a great price:) Loved it and will be back:)
r. d.
Something of a hidden but not that glamorous gem - venture down the stairs or take the modern glass lift to the Crypt to find this atmospheric, self-service café. Admire the tastefully lit, gothic brick arches while you re-fuel after shopping or sampling the wealth of culture in the many nearby galleries. A varied selection of light lunches, sandwiches and cakes with something for everyone. The soup and bread roll were the perfect filler on a damp, grey December day.
M. 5.
Love the setting but the food is pricey and seems to have gone down in quality. Last week, the disk and chips was the worse ever and the person was really small.
V. W.
Great value for fresh tasty food. I got a combo. There's a meat or veggie combo. Generous portions. Cozy ambience.
S. E.
Pretty good, food not bad, fair value, good cause. Lovely venue, we'll go again many times. Crème brûlée recommended.
C. M.
Great reasonably priced food in the heart of London. Well worth it for the atmosphere, good value food and if you need to escape the weather.
S.
Staff is lovely, and very nice food. The place can get a bit noisy if it's crowded.
J. W.
Reasonably priced cafe in interesting surroundings
L. W.
A busy, slightly gloomy, but pleasant cafe environment. I bought a roll and a coffee. The roll was ok, but I thought overpriced, coffee was good.
P. A.
I didn't actually eat here because I walked in and was a hit disappointed with the scene. It didn't feel like an underground crypt at all. It was super bright and setup like a college cafeteria.
J. 0.
On a cold day in late December it was a nice retreat. Christmas dinner was nice if a little cool. Pudding made up for it ...
f. s.
Excellent food for low prices. Although overcrowded and also a bit touristic , it still is the best place in central london for a cheap and good dinner.
N. E. Y.
Amazing environment and atmosphere, ok food. But comfortable and big area. Not easy to find in London!
C. S.
Good location. Pleasant, atmospheric environment. Large portions. Wide selection of mains, starters, salads, desserts, cakes.
s. b.
Absolutely yummy food. Just a tad pricey, but it is in London, so everything's pricey. But worth the experience.
E. G.
Love Cafe in the Crypt for a warm peaceful break from the business above! It always has a good soup and is value for money!
D. D.
Food can be a bit hit or miss, but always fairly priced. Great place to meet friends and relax pre theatre. Free wifi
R. B. -. E. k.
Do not go in here as often as I should.
This is a really interesting place to have a coffee and a cake, which BTW is extremely nice coffee and thoroughly decent cake.
Thoroughly recommended.
J. D.
Purchased fish and chips. Tasted ok but the fish was cold. A bit pricey for what I received at £11.45
H. B.
Not up to its pre-covid standards yet
F. C.
An atmospheric venue convenient to get to. Make sure you book a cosy alcove in advance. Not cheap.
I. R.
Such a wonderful place to find in London, we had a quick and inexpensive lunch there. Would go again definitely, would recommend.
P. R.
very popular place , good food nice prices ,many people use the crypt for the profits made are diversified among the churches other good works , many are there for the superb concerts , theres just two improvements needed , separate the coffee bar from the long ques of the food bar, and wi fi is poor ,but that can be sorted with a new router in the crypt , overall its family friendly service is good , and the atmosphere is also at pitch perfect with dedicated staff ,
C. K.
Food was good and the price too.
We got 2 soups, very interesting and a snack for the kids. Atmospheric room
D. B.
Charming self service coffee shop underground. Good for a quick drink or bite to eat. Very good coffee and hot chocolate!
A. B.
Value for money freshly cooked something for everyone. Wether just a cup of tea or a three course meal you won't be disappointed.
K.
Awesome place in the middle of London. Great atmosphere and delicious food.
N. N.
The basement of St Martin's turned into a busy cafe/restaurant. A little gloomy because of the stonework and location, but a nice place for lunch.
W. S. (. L. W.
If you want a quick snack or meal in central London, this is a great place in unusual surroundings. Situated in the crypt next to St.Martins-in-the-field, Trafalgar Square.
J. W.
Lovley gluten free celery and Stilton soup but would have loved a Gf bread roll to go with it. I was offered carrots and peas though.
B. B.
An amazing find! The food (ok but nothing special) was really propped up by the stunning crypt venue - definitely a well kept secret to show off!
M. R.
Great coffee and a unique location. Worth a visit, but it can get very busy.
T. F.
Used to be a great place! Boy, has the quality of food and service gone down! Not coming back in a hurry.
b. s.
Charming self service coffee shop underground. Good for a quick drink or bite to eat. Very good coffee and hot chocolate!
E. J.
Brilliant cafe which supports the work of St Martin's. . . Excellent choice of snacks or full meals
C. Z.
great location, spacious area which is mostly full and great hale and harty food at reasonable prices
J. C.
Very good selection of food. Reasonable prices for central London. Great facilities.
S. M.
Great place for afternoon snacks and tea! Have never had a bad experience. ..highly recommend.
V. P.
Good lunch as usual
S. D.
Reasonable range of food and drinks, can always find a seat, unusual atmosphere being in a crypt, handy location and clean loos!
J. C.
Excellent food, especially the desserts and if you go on a Wednesday night, there's usually a fantastic jazz band playing
O. G.
This is amazing secret little hide away. Can't believe I didn't know about it before! It's good to know as well that the money goes to St Martin in the Fields.
A. A.
The cafe is very busy and staff do not keep the tables or floor clean. There are good choices of snacks and drinks and the location is good.
T. R.
OK place with nice atmosphere but scones looked a bit plastic. But hot chocolate was good.
G. B.
Often use it for a quick bite to eat when in West End. Good food and reasonable prices. Recommend apple crumble.
C. S.
Nice and unusual atmosphere but poor selection of sandwiches and wholemeal bread with a very tough crust.
O. T.
Always a great time had at the crypt
G. H.
Small choice but good food at a good price. Can get crowded and sometimes closed for private functions.
P.
Great food here coffee is good too dense sense of calm due to its underground construction.
G. A.
Very fun place for lunch. The atmosphere is so unique and fun. What a fantastic idea!
M. T.
Reasonably priced for central London, friendly staff, clean, and food is good.Very convenient if you visit the National Portrait Gallery.
Z.
Alright food, but it's relatively inexpensive, goes to a good cause, and is a good atmosphere
G. K.
Great sandwiches !
D. L.
Great little place under the church. Surrounded by history as usual in London and good coffee too
J. F.
Ok, but uninspired canteen fare, and somehow the location is not as cool and atmospheric as you'd hope.
A. T.
The interior is not only amazing, but a quiet and mellow respite from the city's daily hustle and bustle.
A. D.
Lovely atmosphere and reasonably priced! Very friendly staff and great decor.
b. m.
Lovely food and surroundings. A bit chaotic but very busy
R.
Food is great here and the church upstairs is fantastic, I bring family and friends here whenever they come to visit me here in London.
J. W.
Great place to eat and central. Also as down in Crypt, beautiful brickwork to view.
J. O.
I really like to pop in here for a quick snack when I'm in town shopping. They serve really nice food and is a clean and friendly
S. P.
Slightly expensive, but a great atmosphere.
I've been around 6pm twice. Once it was quiet, another full
D.
Typical London cafe. Quite large. OK for business get-togethers but, for family, you might look for somewhere more cosy.
d. i.
