Reviews of Chinwag cafe

Cool little Cafe by the New Cross Lewisham way. Cozy feeling when inside. Food was great and halal chicken and beef was served. Presentation of food was excellent. Definitely would visit again to try more dishes. This is a Cash only place.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WELCOMING YUMMY PLACE! Me and my partner have been regulars here for some time now... The coffee is diviiine! Food is scrumptious, and everything is so fairly priced 😍 What makes this extra special is the kind hearted souls who run this gem, we spend many an hour trading funny stories and having a good old 'Chin wag'! The decor is stylish yet comfy, and we love the telephone box door! This place feels like our second home ❤

We had fantastic brunch there. Food and coffee were great and service was very nice and helpful.

Always wanted to come to ChinWag after hearing so many good things. The food, decor and service was great. When ordering a full English, they didn’t hold back and the plate was full! The best thing about it is that is it family run and you can see it when the server is interacting with customers and with the quality of food. Also you can buy the paintings on the wall. Very good place for breakfasts and brunch and they serve alcohol. Keep going ChinWag and let’s all support local businesses.

Fantastic little café with friendly welcoming staff. Coffee and food was such high quality. We got the bacon benedict and was so good. Highly recommend and will be visiting again

There aren't many places like this left in gentrified London, please patronise even if just for a coffee!
They have a fantastic #vegan menu (will list below) and delicious smoothies.
Really lovely owner-run cafe with hand-made art and décor (ask them about it). This is a charming place with wood furniture and a whole lot of heart. The staff are friendly and are a great chat, while the food is delicious too. Dishes are well thought out and balanced, no being short-changed here.
*Check out their loo ;)
#Vegan Glory (breakfast): 2 veggie sausages(?), bubble & squeak, roasted cherry tomatoes, flat mushroom, spinach, baked beans and sourdough bread.
#Vegan salad: Hummous, bulgar wheat and chickpeas, sundried tomatoes, pickled slaw, avocado and onion, mixed leaves, oil and balsamic reduction dressing.
#Vegan Power: Smashed avocado, coriander and lime on sourdough toast, mushrooms and seasoned tomatoes, cumin and garlic sautéed spinach and chickpeas with chilli flakes.
#Glutenfree options available
#Soyamilk available

Lovely brunch place. My vegan dish was yummy and really filling. The place has interesting decoration and design as well!

Pleasant fare, huge portions and an excellent Bloody Mary. Burger could stand to be a little pinker in the middle, though I know not all places like to adhere to this given the potential risk.
Staff were lovely & very accommodating.

A menu made only to tickle your tastebuds makes choosing what to eat a tough one, not made any easier by the specials board always on rotation. Definitely have a juice with your plate of choice, there’s a fair number, all of which are more delicious than they sound. Of course, as always, have a Chinwag

Damn but this is good! The reviewer before me praised the powerhouse and I’m happy to second the opinion that it’s bloody good. My cardiologist would say “run away!” but he’s a joyless miserable character, so to hell with him. Enjoy the perfect bacon, the tomato, avocado, egg and slight garlic and chilli on sourdough with a great coffee. It might take an epidemiological 5 minutes off my life, but hey, life’s too short to worry about that!
...well 5 minutes shorter now.

Consistently good food and good value. One of my favourite places for a local weekend brunch. Great breakfasts - lots of choice, generous portions, and lovely freshly made juice. Service always good and friendly. Quirky interior which adds interest.
Still cash only but there's an atm a few doors down at Sainsburys.

Such good coffee for such a good price. And such a lovely little stall.
What’s more, the barista also likes adding and mixing sugar to the espresso shot before adding the milk, just like me! Like, we bonded!
M. C.
I used to come here all the time for food when I lived in the area, their burgers are delicious! I don’t live close anymore but I still make my way over there just to get their banoffee coffee I’ve become a bit obsessed with it you absolutely need to try it!
J. C.
Great food, great cocktails, and a great atmosphere facilitated by a welcoming team of staff. 100% recommend

Great coffee and food. Known about this place for a while but never got a chance to go in. Grabbed some lunch there a couple of months ago, never looked back! The foods tasty and the coffees some of the best in the area. Owners make you feel really welcome.

This cafe is ran by two brothers and the older brother's Mrs. They are very nice people and the food is top quality. Also it is not over priced. This quality of sausages you can't have it anywhere else for this amount of money. I highly recommend "morning glory"
F. A. Z.
We went there for brunch and opted for a Morning Glory dish (lol). Food was tasty, portions were reasonably big. Friendly staff. Recommended!

Great little place! Food is so tasty!!

Good food and cozy place just 2 min from university.

A lovely little place in New Cross, opposite Goldsmiths College. The menu is small but tasty, with brilliant breakfasts served everyday! The coffee is great, and they have a good selection of teas.
What I love most is it's opening hours: that you can get a tea/coffee later in the evening for those nights you want to do something, but don't fancy a pub.

My flat mate and I come here every Saturday morning and it's honestly turned us into the men we are today. Chinwag has brought us back from the brink more times than I can count. The 'morning glory' fry ups are second to none. The bloody marys have genuine magical powers of restoration. And the service is outstanding. It's almost at the point now where we can walk in and be served two delicious Morning Glorys with no beans and extra hash brown with a mere hungover nod. This is priceless. The food is also very reasonably priced, and filling. London is brimming with £15 thin toast - one sausage - one egg - one tomato - one mushroom - rubbish hash brown monstrosities posing as breakfast - this is not one of them.
It's not just the best breakfast place in New Cross, but there's nowhere else we'd rather go in London. Probably Europe. This review may sound like hyperbole, but it's not. We honestly get annoyed when we have breakfasts that haven't been made by Chinwag. That's 6 days out of 7 we start the day annoyed. The Power House is also bloody lovely. And the green juices. And the coffees. And whilst I personally think pancakes aren't for breakfast, I'd be lying if I said the All American didn't look tasty as hell.
Chinwag, thank you.
To the rest of you, if you go anywhere else you're actually mental.

Burgers, salads and chips! Small, bare brick local restaurant with the loveliest staff you can imagine. Can seat around 20 inside, and there space for another few more outside. The toilet looks like 10 Downing Street's front door! The menu is brief but, it's home made burgers the sizes of dinner plates (beef, chicken), huge salads, coffee, small muffins for desert and I found out recently they do fish and chips. All fresh food, it's nice and cosy inside and very inexpensive. Take away coffees too. Frequented by the local student and local resident crowd. Highly recommended.

Good quality food and lovely/welcoming service
W. E. T.
They boast burgers the size of your face and luckily they live up to the hype! They do a selection of hot food and salads, although my favourite would have to be their beef burgers (with a side of cheese fries to share, trust me with that monster of a burger you'll want to share) and their old school fish and chips.
K. B.
I luuuuurve Chin Wag! I come here on a regular basis for breakfast and despite being a meat eater, always go for the Veggie Power house. Great coffee, nice atmosphere, and great service!
A. C.
Nice cafe with a good range of options (though a few more veg/vegan options wouldn't go amiss). Be warned though -- it's cash only (as of the last time that I visited), so make sure that you bring some!
B. D.
Excellent little place with inspired vegetarian and vegan dishes. Great for brunch, they have a bar and serve lip smackingly delicuous bloody marys.
K. G.
As soon as I entered through the door my chin was going. Left, right, left right, it was unstoppable. The food was amazing, but I made a right mess trying to eat it.
M. R.
Great food and very friendly staff.

A lovely couple run this place and the food is amazing :) Try the big burgers and of course their chips, and don't forget the salads. I am also a big fan of the lattes! :D
C.
Food was really good and with good variety on the menu. Would have got 5 stars but 'cash only' which in 2018 is unusual. My guess is Sainsburys ATM close by does good business 😉
D. S.
Great coffee, nice atmosphere, good chocolate cake, and the food looks delicious! Only thing is they don't have wifi so more of a place to go with friends and family rather than work!
V. S.
This is the best place for brekky and all things food. Lovely staff, friendly people.
I have been coming to this place for 4 years, and it has always been great!!!
Z. L.
Good sausages with rare snap. Let down by truly terrible obviously ultracheap "tomato" "ketchup"! Decent brunch and breakfast place overall
E. C.
Can’t visit New Cross without stopping for food and coffee at Chinwag! Really cute place and everything tastes amazinggggg! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Excellent burgers and breakfasts, good prices - you can eat for under a tenner including a drink and be full. Sometimes unexpectedly closed
P. C.
Fantastic food, service and laid back and rustic setting! Would definitely recommend for lunch and brunch.

Loved it, nice coffee, nice food, unpretencious and not too expensive. My new favorite local cafè!

Favourite vegan breakfast place around here. Highly recommend the vegan fry up!
M. D.
The refreshed menu is amazing! I can't stop eating the All American breakfast. So good.
M. W.
Not really sure what all of the fuss is about !! It's nice and clean and the food is OK - the atmosphere is quite nice but the staff are not very friendly and it's a bit pricy for what it's worth !
J. D.
Great little cafe for brunch / lunch. Lots of options ranging from healthy to indulgent.

Chin wag is a great place, eat there often after my bootcamp.
Only downside is it's cash only.

Cute, small cafe with outdoor seating. Friendly host. Ordered grilled Chicken wrap was amazing! Tasty comes with a side of shredded cabbages and lettuce in vinaigrette. The food was a good portion and fair price. I added avocado as an extra to the wrap. Cash only cafe, atm at Sainsburys 2 blocks over.

(Translated) Love it! When I was residing in the Hostel, I came to this cafeteria to buy breakfast. The prices are affordable and definitely better than the Costa next door.
The customer service is impeccable, the blonde girl is always smiling and bothering to ask if you want to wait for the food to be ready to serve you coffee (so you don't take it cold).
He used to ask me for a "bacon and egg" sandwich that, in addition to being worth its price, was delicious and they made it for you right away.
I recommend it, whether you like coffee or want to support small businesses.

¡Me encanta!
