Reviews of City Place

This is my second visit and both times I've had great coffee and delicious food. There's a few vegan options on the menu but I think they need to have a few more veggie options too.
They have a nice courtyard at the back with more seating. My only criticism is that dogs are allowed to go through the narrow front door and passageway to the back. I even saw the waitress touching the dog. I would have preferred if people with dogs sat at the front courtyard instead.
Overall great food and service.

Great coffee which is always hot! Lovely and welcoming staff which means a lot when you work from home. Only criticism is that because they are so popular the place is too small! Hoping they will expand (and open a branch in South Woodford) so there are some more cosy seating areas for eating in. A special thanks to Julian and Elizabeth for always making me feel so valued and welcome as a customer.

Don't just walk by...check out City Place Coffee and their brilliant outside area at the back... lovely open space cafe, easy accessibility for prams and wheelchairs. Children's play area, lots of parasols for rain or shine. Perfect for our hot sunny days people watching in Wanstead High St...with even more seating at the front and open facade.
Staff are approachable and very friendly... café just opened and new to the area... I'm sure they'll be lots of exciting ideas yet to come from this lovely family run café.

Nice place. Good latte. Nice area out the back. Only downside was lingering cooking smells in the indoor seating area at the front, but overall would recommend.

Good spots for families to hang out. Amazing play section for the kids. Great snacks. Just great overall

Delicious lunch today with great service in family and dog friendly comfortable setting - will definitely be returning.

I come here often as I work nearby and it's such a nice, relaxing place. The staff are really friendly and are always there to help and the food is pretty good! There's some good vegan options (both sweet and savoury) and the coffee is great. Highly recommend 🙏

Very nice outdoor seating area out back with patio heaters. Drinks are fair price.

Great coffee, very tasty cakes and friendly staff. It's nice to sit outside enjoying the high street, or inside where it is quite cosy.

Really love this place. Visited couple of weeks ago..pretty courtyard. Had coffee, salt beef bagel and apple strudel...all delicious. Waitress was so friendly too.
Came back again today.. spoke with the owner, she was lovely...can tell they have put their hearts into this beautiful little cafe.
Really wish this place every success...they deserve it.
Wheelchair friendly too.

A gem in the middle of Wanstead. Dog friendly. Great place for coffee, breakfast, lunch. Love the garden with tables and heaters.

Very clean and lovely outdoor seating area.
Highly recommended!

Good service, lovely fresh food (had the salmon bagel), nice coffee. Could do with a pushchair/buggy park outside, so many customers bringing them inside.

Visited on Friday and Sunday and had a cheese & ham toastie and on Sunday the special which was a steak sandwich. Both were delicious and good value for money. The coffee here is the best I've tasted. Friendly staff and cool surroundings, will definitely be back.
H. S.
Very friendly, fantastic milkshake and probably the best cheese and ham toastie I've ever had!

Nice friendly place, food top..had tea and sausage roll. Only have two small negative points. My wife asked for mustard on the side. I ask for ketchup. Never happened, think either staff not listening our there tablets not able to take in...2nd, Gentleman who served us could do with his uniform being a bit more cleaner.

Lovely place! Lovely friendly staff, tasty food and for sure the best coffee I've had since moving back to London last year. So pleased that they're promoting wanstead bookshop, and honoring the location's history as Percy Ingles. Couldn't recommend the place more!

Good service. I didnt get to see the bill, as was electronic on a tablet not visible to me, but very professional service and friendly too. Good bacon roll for me and vegan for my husband. I'd go again and see the garden.

Service was dreadful; 40 minutes for 2 bagels? And while we’re on the subject of bagels; salt beef was very very good. But, spread the mustard thinly on the bagel don’t squirt unevenly. And get rid of the salad and the green speckles on the side.

On the way back from seeing the Bluebells in the woods my daughter and I decided to pop into city place coffee for a cuppa and a slice of cake, now I'm very fussy about my tea but have to say their tea was spot as was the carrot cake I had with it. The staff were very nice helpful, welcoming and friendly and and if we are ever in Wanstead again we will definitely call in on you guys again.

A good coffee blend, well made and attentive service. Fast delicious and clean. Really enjoyed my visit
Well done

This is a fantastic new cafe in Wanstead Village with a fabulous menu, breakfasts/brunches served until Midday, delicious paninis for lunch and a good kid's menu. The winning element is the secret (and deceptively large) garden at the back, which is a lovely suntrap in the morning. It has a small children's playhouse at the back with lots of fun sensory toys for babies and young children, which my daughter will love. The garden is filled with herbs, olive trees and lavender and there is seating in the sun and under sun umbrellas. The staff are friendly too. I feel like I'm on holiday when I come here! Fast becoming one of my favourite spots - I hope other cafés consider opening up their back garden space like this as it's fab!

Great to see a new place open in Wanstead. Not different to any other coffee shop I've seen here though.
No wifi so that's not great.
They haven't seem to have gotten their food hygiene rating.
Not enough tables outside.
I had the flat white muffin. Didn't taste the coffee in it which I something I really enjoy. The coffee was quite bitter which seemed to be the general consensus at my table.
Being called city place you would think it would be somewhere nice to eat and work. My friends and I thought we could revise here but the table are small and there are no booths to sit on. The plugs are inaccessible and far away from the tables. Costa is much easier to work in.
On the plus side, the service is quick but that's the same in every coffee shop.
Servers are friendly.
Nice atmosphere / music.
Would recommend if you wanted to sit and get coffee but that's all.
Garden is alright, no grass (which is bad for kids incase they fall, grass is softer), no canopy to cover from rain. Quite basic.

Best cafe in Wanstead for vegan choices, super friendly staff and a delicious well thought out menu.

Very pleasant setting at the back, with excellent choice of food, reasonable wait for service, no complaints, busy so expect to wait a short while, friendly staff would certainly return.
T. H.
Tasty food and friendly staff. Allowed us to bring our dogs in

We visited City Place for the first time today and were certainly impressed. We sat in the garden at the back which is a real bonus in Wanstead High Street. The staff were friendly, service was quick, atmosphere relaxed and the food was delicious - we will certainly be returning - would definitely recommend
J. W.
Sweet little coffee shop, good location and prices aren't too bad.

Nice food, brilliant staff and the waiter was so nice when our dog knocked over the table. A slightly limited menu for breakfast but the food was really good.
