I’ve often found that places that have a hand written menu taped to the door tend to be amazing, and this restaurant did not disappoint! The simplicity of the menu is deceiving for the wonderful flavors that you are given, and the genuine and friendly owner/cook does amazing things with his homemade bread. Best breakfast I’ve had in London!

I had a wonderful breakfast here this week, everything was superb! The setting is lovely - there is a beautiful area at the back it feels almost like you are in the countryside. The food was so fresh and delicious, freshly made bread, great coffee & freshly squeezed orange juice. It was also the best service I’ve had in London in a long time- thank you 🥰

We used to live in Islington and this was my favourite cafe - I think we went most weeks for about 13 years! The ingredients are so fresh and it's the most welcoming place. It's so rare to find a neighborhood cafe that's such great value with such delicious food. I'd definitely recommend this cafe to anyone. There are so many regulars which is a testament to how good it is.

In the corner of a street, hidden from the main stream, this absolutely authentic small cafe/restaurant is definitely a surprise! Everything about it is 100% natural and fresh. The dishes are big for London cafes, and relatively cheap. It's the perfect place for weekend breakfast or brunch and for afternoon tea. The food is fresh, unique and delicious. All made and served by the owner. This place is heaven for vegetarians and vegans. Enjoy :)

Excellent food at a very good price, and great service. Three of us went there for a late lunch. I had the the warm shrimp salad, which was enormous, and had lots of interesting flavours in it. While the salads were being prepared, which didn't take long, the owner gave us a (free) selection of small snacks (green olives, black olives in pastry, tomatoes, and a few other things). We got another selection of small snacks (sweet this time) with our coffees, and since the place was quiet, and we were not in a hurry, we spent at least half an hour chatting to the owner. The final cost was under £12 each.

I really like the food here, the ingredients are clearly fresh, the portions are very good and there's a lot of flavour. At the back of the cafe is a lovely garden with conservatory looking onto it, which is great. Coffee is fairly standard. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Would recommend.

I can barely start to describe how much I love this place. I can't believe it's taken me two years of living in London to find it! The cafe serves up the most delicious home-made healthy brunches and snacks. The chef lets you view the daily produce and basically create your own meals (fresh roast chicken, grilled vegies, mixed salad with apple and avocado). The brunch also came with some delicious surprises on the side! It's such a little gem, I'll definitely be back!

This independent cafe is such a hidden gem I almost reluctant to share it! With a beautiful garden and conservatory (with a heater) this cafe is great for sunny and rainy days, and has an incredible view of the sunset (see photo). The owner is a lovely, warm and jolly man who takes pride in sourcing healthy food. He is also incredibly generous with home made cookies and healthy snacks. Meals are cooked fresh every day with love and care. Always taking care to modify for allergies and food preferences, this is a great spot for vegans and vegetarians (avocado and falafel baguette or lentil soup are my favourite vegan options). This is my favourite cafe in London, haven't been eating anywhere else since I came across it. If you are looking for a nice day out is also nearby the New River Walk, a lovely spot to feed the ducks.

Another perfect example of how a cafe should be done. Staff were welcoming and looked as if they were all part of the same family. The food came at just the correct time and tasted perfect. Baked potato with cheese + tuna (and a generous portion of a lovely salad) - £6.50

With all the nice cafés around Highbury & Islintgton, opening a new one that stands out is a daunting task. Still, Fig Tree pulls it off: nicely decorated, with an amazing back garden, friendly and generous service, great coffee and delicious freshly made food (salads, tarts, sandwiches), this place will probably quickly become trendy. Don't wait for it to be victim of its success: it is well worth a visit.
