Reviews of Green Room Cafe & Flower Store
A. M.
I think this has become my favourite lunch place! The portions are massive and the taste of the food is amazing! the vibes in the cafe are so warm and friendly and I can't recommend the fish burger enough!
C. S.
Brunch in the early morning sun in their garden is amazing. Service is always with a smile, super quick and great with kids. Occasionally buy a plant or flowers on the way out.
T. C.
Lovely selection of flowers, and really friendly staff. Spanish guy, I think, was working there (I don't think anymore) and he was SO nice, and so friendly. Flowers a tiny bit pricey compared to nearby shops, but just a bit. There's something 'missing' about the cafe/restaurant set up that I can't quite put my finger on. Has the air of being very unintentionally a cafe - like it is first and foremost a flower shop, with a cafe just attached for the sake of extra cashflow. Or even the other way around.
My unsolicited suggestion would be to integrate the flower shop part and the cafe part better, so it doesn't feel like two separate businesses renting one shared space. Fresh flowers on the tables, more plants in the eating area. More floral/plant themed menu design. At the moment, you walk through the plant shop and the second you meet the bar to the left, it's like a totally different place, in a sort of jarring way.
This won't stop me from visiting the flower shop though :-)

Really good setting for a bit of lunch. Love the combination of the garden shop/theme with the cafe. Coffee was okay and the food was very good. They have good vegetarian/vegan options.
Have seen a lot of reviews mentioning the no laptops rule, but someone was in there using a laptop and it wasn’t a problem! If people can work quietly and considerately then this could be a good way of keeping the place busy throughout the afternoon!
C. M.
Beautiful garden at the back of the flower shop, breakfast and lunch menu, delicious food, cannot believe this place isn’t open for dinner
A. M. A.
The Green Room is... how can I put it? The place that's gone the fastest to the top of my list of brunch places in London.
The place is absolutely beautiful: spacious, well lit, with a plant-shop at the front!, dog-friendly, with minimal but tasteful décor, ample chairs and tables made of old sewing machines. Delightful!
The food is scrumptious. From brunch classics to hard to find combinations like quince pancakes. Beautifully cooked, well presented, very fast to get to the table and an explosion of flavour at every morsel. Local ingredients and in-house baked cakes. What else do you want?
And I'm leaving the best for the last: the people. The staff is marvelous. I can't emphasise this enough: friendliest, nicest, most cheerful and welcoming people ever. Can't wait to go again!

We stumbled across this little gem today and absolutely loved it. The staff are super friendly, and the food was amazing. Had a lovely hour and a bit there, other customers chatting to us too. Beautiful little outside space - we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the area ❤️❤️❤️
G. R.
Was looking for a working space but didn't find this was a suitable space for that. Was only going to order drinks so was put in the downstairs space which I didn't really enjoy (small and cold) compared to how cosy the main bit looks... Besides that, the turmeric latte was delicious and friendly staff.
I. F.
I love this place. The shop and the outside garden are equally lovely. You can get simply but tasty plates as well as good coffee. Super recommended
D.
The staff were delightful and the cakes were delicious.
B.
Really surprised at some of the reviews on here! Have been to this place several times and have always had really friendly service and delicious food. The garden is gorgeous and such a nice atmosphere on a sunny day
M. T.
Food was decent but overpriced, most obvious example on the menu is £8.50 for soup of the day - which from what we saw on another table was just a bowl of average-looking tomato soup and two half-slices of sourdough bread
J. M.
I The food in this delightful establishment is rustic and wholesome, the staff are friendly, the atmosphere relaxed - definitely recommend. Only negative point, the loo - broken door handle, no lock, no working dryer, no mirror, messy floor... could do better...
A. M.
Very lovely place, gorgeous backyard area which is perfect for a brunch on a sunny day. Service a bit slow but friendly. Delicious yogurt pancake.

Good, solid breaky/brunch/lunch food at The Green Room and there are great gluten free options. The whole place, inside and out, is beautiful. During summer brunching out back is pure bliss however the service is so uneven. Some days it's good, others it's awful. One visit the servers are nice and on it, the next they ignore you and are rude. My friend and I, the fourth time we went, were waiting for a staff member to come and take our order in the garden for about 15 minutes despite being told that someone would be right with us as we entered. We ended up just going to the counter and ordering ourselves. After ordering and waiting over 30 minutes for our food - it was a Tuesday at 9:30/10am with not many customers there - the server brought us a totally different/incorrect order. We told them it was incorrect, our order was retaken, 15 minutes later only my friends meal was brought out. I asked if my meal was coming and then they said it hadn't been put through. They didn't even offer to take my mates meal back so he ate then 10/15mins later my food came out. All in all about an hour of our time was spent waiting which was lame as it wasn't busy. Also, no one apologised for the muck around. I don't think I'll be going back. The three out of five rating is because I've never had a gluten reaction there, the food is solid with big portions + the food/fresh juices and coffees are a decent price for London and the place is stunning. The service, or lack of, is the only factor that lets The Green Room down. It really is such a shame because I like the place and do think it could be spectacular and very successful if they had staff with the right attitude working there. For more gluten free/coeliac reviews hit me up at The Gluten Free Minx on tripadvisor and instagram: let me help you nom globally.

Friendly and accommodating staff. It is a popular brunch spot but they do take reservations. Lots of eating options, many of which are your standard coffee shop favourites.
C. C.
What a lovely place, a large covered area out the back, relaxing and away from all the hustle and bustle of the main road. Lovely meal, nice and fresh. All the food we saw come out looked great. Very friendly staff. Minus one star as a large area and only one working toilet...
M. D.
Lovely shop with cafe at the back ,nice seating area out the back in the warmer weather,a little too expensive but what do you expect it's stokey
A. W.
Stumbled on this coffee shop by chance. Lovely garden area to the rear away from the bustle of the street. Friendly staff and good coffee 😃
S. G.
Very characteristic place...you walk in a flower shop before getting to the coffee shop. There is a beautiful garden where you can enjoy the tranquility in good company like I did . I had a delicious iced latte, you must try it!!! Friendly staff!
A. S.
Cute café hidden away in the back of a great flower shop. There's a large garden out the back with a covered terrace area and plenty of places to sit. Quality of the food is great, I'd recommend the pancakes! Dog friendly inside
G. O.
The food is yummy /reasonably priced and theres a massive garden in the back. This is my new favorite place to go and work. One point lost for some kind of machine in the basement that was on which shook the cafe for a couple of hours.
L. S.
A pleasant place for breakfast and lunch between a flower shop and a green courtyard.
M. R.
I adore this place. The plant shop is cute and pleasant and the restaurant garden is peaceful and secluded. Their food is interesting and well-prepared and the staff is friendly. One of my favourite places to eat in Stoke Newington.
S. D.
I love this place, I am so happy to live nearby! Always a positive vibe, good food, coffee and juices, delicious desserts, a fantastic garden, nice plants and great staff! The Geordie girl is soooo nice and friendly! She just makes us want to come back! Thank you guys!
s. b.
Lovely environment and conveniently located.
When visited last, I just wished they offered also smaller dishes. All portions are very generous, which usually is great, but I kind of struggled finding a quick savoury bite just to have a mid morning break. We went for a tea and slice of cake, but we would have preferred something savoury like a small sandwich or a bruschetta.
E. J.
Lovely café serving delicious brunch, hidden behind a plant store. Cute back garden
A.
Lovely cafe with small selection of plants and flowers at the front and then cafe and huge garden seating area at the back! Great menu and lovely setting.
S. A.
We have been here several times and always enjoy the food which is freshly prepared, the staff are friendly and helpful.
V. T.
An excellent idea turning a florist into a hidden coffee shop. The execution though is lacking. Staff are friendly however service is slow. Food is greasy but tasty. Backdoor garden is spacious but cluttered and poorly maintained. It is a good place but can be so much better. Food prices are reasonable. A nice place to chill.
J. M.
Super cozy cute little cafe and flower shop. Really delicious breakfast and lunch food
A. D.
Friendly service and a great venue. Food could be a bit more refined. The burgers looked amazing but the meat was below par. Needs work.
D. j.
A really beautiful setting and relaxed atmosphere, what was really noticeable about the food was the quality of everything in my English breakfast, down to the homemade baked beans and extra tasty poached eggs, delicious!
Y. H.
We didnt get to stay because they don’t allow laptops but the atmosphere is so nice.
W. E.
Really nice spot but doesn’t have any vegan options.
E. C.
Beautiful and large outdoor area at the back of the cafe and wonderful little plant shop at the front. Lots of character. Delicious decaf coffee, not too bitter. The cakes are really tasty too. A little on the expensive side but then most places in this area are. They don't allow laptops on weekends.
R. C.
I really love the atmosphere in here, and as a florist I think they have a really good selection of beautiful wild flowers and house plants that are so much better quality than the likes of Columbia Road Flower market. The owner and his dog Barney are lovely too! The Cafe out the back is amazing in the summer months, it's a massive garden and a hidden oasis on busy Church street. The food is good, not the best ever, but they do a good quality brunch and have enough options to keep everyone happy. It gets very busy so sometimes the service is a little slow. I would also avoid going here to sit in the garden on weekdays in late mornings unless you have a baby, as it's like a mothers meet and greet - aka baby central! Overall a great spot for sitting out in the sun with a nice reasonably priced brunch and loads of lovely drinks. The shashuka is great, as is the eggs benedict is perfectly edible. The granola portion is massive and the brownies are phenom!
I. R.
Went in here with a friend and it was a nice atmosphere but my observations were .....place was freezing on a cold day with the heating off. The main door was wide open which obviously didn't help. Every one sitting down had their coats & hats on.The tables weren't cleared and pretty messy. We just had tea and cake which were fine. Overall 3 out of 5.
L. H.
Such a lovely place, very good drinks (didn't have food but I have no doubt it's also very nice) and the waitress was just so kind. We'll be back for sure!
R. K.
I had a breakfast here in the sun. The ambience was nice, however service wasn't there for me, no check back or offers of further drinks. Also when asked for the bill I was told I have to pay inside, still I can see a bill outside, no? Sourdough was slightly charred, however these guys do amazing eggs, helping to boost them to 3 out of 5 pengs!
R. L.
Average.
The atmosphere and restaurant looked nice but it was really unkempt when we arrived and we had to while a for service even though the place wasn't busy.
Food arrived before the drinks, that's not to say that the food was quick but I think they forgot our drinks.
I ordered huevos rancheros that looked great when it arrived in the pan but cooled into an oily mess and tasted fairly 'meh'.
I would probably go back for coffee or their events but the food was average at best and the service was the same.
J. H.
Really lovely atmosphere in what at first site looks like a flowershop. Went on saturday just after four. Not quite ready for dinner so a cake and 2 coffee with soya milk for 10 pounds. Pricey? Coffee was good but small cups. Needed another cup to finish the cake
- Lemon polenta Hmmmm! Great service but didn't like the two dogs being present. One was very distributing barking at little children and meandering round the tables. For me dogs and food dont go together. Dog lovers yep you will love it.

2019 ***** Review:
Hooray! They’ve clearly changed chef and the staff too. Delicious breakfast (I had Eggs Benedict which were poached to perfection, he had a full English which he said was good). Prices were still the same - so I appreciate them not increasing in 3 years and also am happy to pay them when the food is good. The service was good, the coffee very nice and they still have a lovely outdoor seating space. It’s now going on the list as a new regular brunch location.
2016 ** Review:
Really lovely space inside & out, with a large surprise mediterranean style patio'd garden. Also very friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately the over priced, underwhelming food & coffee let it down.
My friend who I went with warned that they sometimes have a long wait time (last time he went he didn't get served for 30min so just left without ordering). We did get very quickly served by a very friendly waitress so had high hopes. I ordered poached eggs on toast & she warned that the chef does them a different way to most people, poaching them in their shell & then breaking them out so they can seem undercooked... I've never heard of this as a way of doing them, so gave them a go. My friend had the full english also with poached eggs.
The poached eggs on toast (£5) were two eggs on one large thick cut slice of white toast. Unfortunately the eggs had nearly undercooked runny whites and overcooked hardboiled yolks. I did flag it up with the waitress (because I think basic stuff not being prepared correctly like that should be brought to the kitchen's attention) who offered to change them (which I appreciated), saying that she thought the chef might be cooking them longer because the day before, there had been lots of complaints they were under cooked. I chose not to change them because I was really hungry. But I think that's proof there a good reason for the standard boring way of poaching eggs in boiling water rather then being all Heston about it. If you can't execute them in your exciting different way, go back to boring standard.
My friend's full english was good (except the eggs, and apparently it was under seasoned) but expensive at £9/9.50 I think. You can easily get as good/better full english for less elsewhere on Church St.
Coffees arrived after our food did, which our waitress - who I can't fault - apologised for. I asked for a flat white, got a latte. I did ask for that to be changed & it was replaced with another latte. Which is apparently their flat white. As they don't know how to make a flat white, I asked for a cappuccino which our waitress made herself, saying she'd done it because she was a trained barista which the staff on the coffee machine were not.
We weren't sure if we should pay at the table or the til, so went up to the til. Given the number of mistakes/not so good food & coffee, we were disappointed there was no deduction made from our bill.
It feels like somewhere that's just opened up, that is still finding it's feet and has aspirations (reflected in the pricing of the food) of being better then it is. However turns out it's been open for a year and a half so there's no excuses really.
I'd recommend it for a visit on a sunny day, if you wanted a coffee only. And that coffee was a latte.
P. J.
Hidden gem! If you walk by this place it looks like a flower shop. Enter and head towards the back and it opens into a beautiful, rustic little brunch spot. The garden out back has tons of seating and gets ample sun. Perfect spot to be on a sunny day. Food is great, and staff/service is always friendly.
w. J.
Decent food. Friendly staff. Loads of covered seating outside. Everywhere else was rammed on Sunday lunchtime so trying to find somewhere to eat with 4 grownups and 3 kids wasn't easy but this place ticked all the boxes.
S. P.
The Green Room hosted our wedding reception in the outside area out back and it was absolutely perfect. They had really made an effort to make it look pretty. The staff were lovely (if sometimes a little forgetful), the food was super and the price was excellent. Would highly recommend for a casual wedding reception or lunch if you're in the area.
P. P.
Lovely set up, great for a sunny brunch.
A good menu, with lots of veggie choices. Relaxed atmosphere and very family and pet friendly. Shame about slow service. But will come back.
S. L.
Always good food, the garden area is excellent through the warmer months.
Very busy summer weekends so it's an idea to arrive early, or you will most likely need to queue.
T. J.
Beyond fantastic plants and the loveliest person who works in the plant section who gives the place such a welcoming atmosphere! Big big recommend.
M. B.
I eat here regularly with the kids. Great shakshuka, falafel and good kids portions. Kitchen is very flexible and will cater to kids needs off menu. Food is lovely and we'll priced. WiFi is great, lots of places to work. Can get very busy at peak times especially Saturday. Big garden with tables and a few rocking toys for the kids. Lovely people here, never had anything but friendly service.
N. M.
Nice flower/garden shop at the front of the shop. The cafe has great interiors.
You need to walk through the flower shop to get to the cafe. As I walk past the drinks bar staff seemed reluctant to say hello and acknowledge you, but once you get their attention they were friendly.
The front of house seemed really disorganised and table numbering seem to cause quite a bit of confusion when paying your bill. Laptop use is discourage and was told that the WiFi didn't work (even though the code was on the wall behind the till). Small improvements in service would make it 4 or 5 star!
R. H.
Nice place for a cup of tea and slice of cake. Hidden away behind a flower shop, it's got a very relaxed vibe by attracts the various Stokie crowd types. Big garden for summer, really good drinks, food and cakes.
P. J.
Guys, A double shot latte means two shots not over extracting one shot. Just an FYI. Tipped it and went to The Bread Crumb. Much better. Food at the Green Room is excellent though. And the staff are nice.
A. V.
I would like to start by saying a special thanks to Ozge for being so helpful, friendly and very accommodating. The Café has many Fresh tasty food and nice drinks. Also, such a unique style, very interesting to look around. Great choice on the menu, I go at least once a week! Never disappointed!
E. T.
Food is fine - your avocado and eggs fayre - but menu is pretty inflexible and no options below about 8 pounds. Staff are fairly ambivalent as to whether you're there or not. Lots of plants but not v comfortable so not one to while away an afternoon.
R. B.
Best cafe in church Street. From the outside it just seems like a flower shop (it is indeed) but it is also a cafe. I love to go here cause it really cosy, coffee is good, food is really good, and the vibe is cool. Also they close quite late for a cafe so is perfect.
C. M.
Large florist/coffee space serving great food that isn't cheap but large portions! Staff are friendly and the outside area is huge, make sure you say hello to the café dog he's a keeper! :)
X. P.
You need to go through the florist shop to reach the cafe. Large outdoor space. Staff is very friendly, ask them for advises. Many healthy options and some non healthy cakes too. I often discover some 'old vegetables' in their menu.
They accept "colu" for payments.
M. A.
A chilling zone ,lay back Cafe . Nice rear garden for sitting away from the bustle of the roads. They also allow your pet but don't take your Bull Mastiff. Nice staff .
M. M.
Beautiful cafe with a secluded leafy garden. For the cold season they also have a few tables sprinkled inside the plants shop. Reasonable prices, nice for catching up with friends
K. N.
Lovely little cafe with a flower shop and a gorgeous quiet outdoor garden. Enjoyed all my meals so far and would always go back
J. G.
Great food, coffee and cakes. The outdoors area at the back is insane: loads of tables to sit outside for small or large groups. Don't be fooled by the front that gives the impression it is small. Flowers shop in the front. Very quaint.
Y. C.
Nothing to write home about! Full English is £11.75 see picture! Probably not value for money.
M. G.
Lovely place, good food and helpful staff.
Great outdoor space.
Would recommend.
D. C.
Love this place! I've been coming since I moved to the area. Always great attention and amazing food
J. A.
The waitress had spilled more coffee in the saucers than was left in the cups , no apologies or napkins to soak up the spillage. She then slammed the tea cups on the table! The food was ok but the room was cold.
H. P.
Best cafe on Church Street. Cakes are delicious and breakfast is great too. Also brilliant if you have a dog! Staff are always really friendly. Definitely recommend a visit.
K. P.
Beautiful little place! Went with family for lunch. Amazing haloumi breakfast and gorgeous smoothie, sat in the lovely garden. Fabulous little place! Would highly recommend.
A. L.
Beautiful plants and garden but the coffee was awful—too watery and sour—and that's the only thing I ordered so it was a disappointing experience.
M. V.
Great service, delicious avocado on toast and Apple & Mint tea. Love the outdoor space! Will be back!
J. A.
Great local , with nice garden setting and food.
M. B.
I've been served by the manager who was a really friendly guy, made the whole experience really fun. The carrot cake I had was very good and all the other meals looked nice.
H. W.
Delicious food and smoothies, however very slow service. Don't be in a rush! Fantastic outdoor garden and scrummy cakes
V. C.
Very good coffee if slightly on the strong side.
Pleasant staff and very interesting decor !!
M. S.
Wow what delicious food! Very interesting menu I had an onion bhaji burger and just worked. Best falafel starter around.
B. M.
Fantastic. Really friendly, great atmosphere, delicious food.
Been there for breakfast and coffee / cake in the afternoon - always brilliant.
H. T.
Nice food. It seems they were understaffed though, so we were told a bottle of beer would take 20 minutes to arrive at our table.
G. Q.
Beautiful cafe with one of the best gardens in Stoke Newington. Perfect for those who love plants and coffee... Great food too. :)
G. M.
Been here twice over the past year and it falls short. Food is fine but the service is lacklustre and slow, the staff don’t seem to really care. Better places to spend your money.
T. B.
Met the fabulous waitresses they were totes fab. Totes can make the most fab flat whites. One of them even looked like Angelina jolie (not (she wishes)).
S. T.
I love this place. Good for family. Canadian breakfast is my favourite! The food takes a while to be served.
M. M.
The place is hidden and charming.
Good variety in the menu and some vegan and vegetarian option (vegan burger taste very nice)
M. F.
Excellent service and good food.
E. S.
Great atmosphere and good food in the cafe / flower shop. Lovely staff as well.
G. M.
Great plant store and cafe with nice out door space off the road
P. S.
Nice place to relax and have nice coffee in the day during the week. There's also a downstairs area.
O. P.
Not impressed with flowers, I’ve bought a few times here and every time they wilt so quickly and aren’t cheap!
T. G.
Backyard area is such a gem! Lots of outdoor space for a London cafe. Also, food was delish.
C. C.
Very pleasant café behind a florist. In summer there is plenty of room outside. One of my local favourites.
P. W.

(Translated) A small bucolic spot hidden in the middle of the main avenue of Stoke Newington, not so small in the end since after the very flowered storefront (since we sell flowers there) we discover a huge garden: a mix of biergaten berlinois and typical english garden, the perfect place for lunch.
It’s beautiful, it’s nice, it’s kids friendly and the staff is great, in short, we’re good. We order a maxi pitcher of pimm's story to get into the British bath, and great salads of foufou story to play it healthy. Okay well ... I was a little jealous when I saw the other guests with big english breakfasts and mountains of pancakes.
If the service is a bit long, in the end we are more than happy to take our time and enjoy the nonchalant tranquility of the garden. The pimm's are coming, and so are our salads: spicy falafels, kale (so british) and roasted potatoes for me. Love it.
Suffice to say that we directly exceed the quota of 5 fruits and vegetables per day.
It's good, fresh, crunchy and full of different flavors. In short it is a treat, it was exactly what we needed to continue with an afternoon visit.
If you pass in the corner, go for it, the place itself is worth it to linger!

(Translated) A really delicious breakfast with good ingredients and nicely served. The service was also nice. The only minus was that in plain English style it drew and was pretty cold. So if you come on a cold January morning then you have to remember well with clothes.
