Reviews of Ground Coffee Society
A. K.
Very kind staff, cosy place, quite big for a coffee place, beautiful area outside! Coffee is nice, I feel like it could be a bit stronger but I ordered 12oz so not sure how many espresso shots they added.. but taste is really nice! Got lemon cake as well but it's not very good, quite dry.. but definitely a great place to visit!
M. B.
Excellent Coffee, Great food, family-like staff and lovely atmosphere! By far the best Brunch/coffee spot in London.
J. M.
Really great coffee. Food not too bad either. Service is very good. Great place for breakfast and brunch. Highly recommended
J. S.
Best coffee shop in Putney. Awesome coffee and the prices are quite reasonable for London as well, £2.70 for a standard flat white. Great seating area and the outdoor sundeck is a true hidden gem when the weather is good. Fast wifi, good place to work on a laptop (at least when it's quiet). Be aware that at peak times (Saturday / Sunday morning) it gets pretty packed and there is often a queue, but for good reason!
E. I.
The food quality is nice and staff is really friendly. It was a bit busy on Saturday morning when I visited but you can easily find a place if you wait 5-10 minutes.
T. K.
Very good flavour coffee. Delivered as a piece of art, almost. Enjoyable chicken and pesto of sourdough.
Tasty freshly made sandwich, but not a cheap bite. There again you're not getting run-of-the-mills flavour either.
C.
📍 Location: Close to bus stops and East Putney station where you can get the district line. Conveniently located near the high street, but tucked away enough for some privacy.
☕ Coffee: Really good! I had a cappuccino which tasted pretty great, and they have a variety of options. I found mine a little bit sweet, but it was still great. They also offer different blends.
🥑 Food: I had avocado toast with a boiled egg, which was cooked just how I like it: gooey! 🍳 Best avotoast I've had; pretty substantial portion size too. (I felt a bit hipster-y about it, yes.)
💰 Price: Not bad. What you'd expect. General price of coffee you'll find in most places. Avotoast was £7 and it's another £1 for a poached egg. There are some cheaper options such as oats and cakes though.
✨ Overall, I really enjoyed it! Service was very friendly and I had a nice conversation with one person. I'll definitely go back.

A real gem just off the high st.
Coffee here is taken seriously, and the food breakfast and lunch, is top notch.
Have been a couple times now and was extremely impressed by the staff friendliness and attention as well.
J.
Coffee could have been better (too hot & not a proper flat white), but the food, service and venue are really lovely.
L. L.
Good coffee and food, excellent service and great space. Have an open patio in the back which is nice for summer days
J. K.
Delicious coffee! Brunch menu is simple, the bacon bap was tasty. You can even buy tim tams here! (Didn't buy/check the price!)
L. H.
It is expensive although not unusually so for London. The food and the coffee is good although service can be slow as it does get very busy. Very popular with cyclists and rowers.
E. B.
Specious and comfy coffee shop with excellent coffee and good selection of pastries.
T. C.
Good coffee, warm environment friendly staff. Dogs allowed only at the entrance, food is good. The place is quite pricy.
F. D.
THE best coffee shop in Putney by far! This is my go to and the staff are super friendly. I love to introduce this place to new mates because every time they agree with how amazing the coffee is!
They’ve also recently updated their menu and have a couple of really tasty vegan options! 🌱
support local 🙏🏻

Good range of breakfasts. Superb coffee. Comforting decor. Busy.
K. V.
Helping me cope with mommy-hood 😊 lovely atmosphere, good food and great flat whites. Friendly staff. My weekly special!
L. C.
Had brunch at a less accommodating place today and it made me pine for the easy-going and friendly vibe at Ground. They do a great brunch offering, great coffee. We go regularly and our 1 year old shouts and toddles about and they never seem irritated. This is such a blessing if you’ve got an energetic kid, as it’s not a given in all brunch joints!
P. A.
I always judge a cafe by its coffee. I had a black Americano with a smidge of brown sugar. Unfortunately the taste was sour, which is a sign of insufficient extraction of coffee from the beans.
The atmosphere is nice and the decor is pleasing. The staff were pleasant and it wasn’t overly busy.
C. R.
The tops.
Brilliant and very polite staff.
Great coffee.
Food cooked to perfection and very reasonably priced.
First time I've been there but will definitely be going back for more.
C. O.
Good little cafe with lovely service and loads of space to sit and chat. Staff were helpful and offered new drinks at the table which is rare for London. We sat for hours chatting and didn’t feel rushed. Food looked good and teas were OK.
A. T.
Really good coffee, but more than £7 to sit and have a flat white and a cup of mint tea is just too much, even for London..
D. D.
Lovely place. Sad I didn't find it until my last day in London. The porridge with mixed berries was divine. The almond Mochas were very tasty and probably my favorite coffee I've had over my last 8 days in Porto, Lisboa, and London. The atmosphere is very pleasant. The staff is friendly. The music is good. If I lived near here, I would come every day.
B. D.
Incredible coffee. Great local cafe. Friendly staff. Given it is good can get busy but totally worth the wait. Food is good and reasonably priced given portion sizes. Also lots of yummy cakes. Am slightly biased as is my local. Take away bags of pods n beans available as well as TIM TAMS!!!!!!!! 😍😍😍😍
L. C.
Best coffee in putney, can buy it by the bag too!! Lovely staff, food is good (although not a lot out of the box) and just a generally nice place to chill and have a chat. If you're in on a weekend morning for takeout be prepared to wait for a bit, but not really worse than anywhere else!
C. O. C.
We’ve always loved and supported this place mainly for the excellent coffee but the breakfast standard has slipped. The breakfast burrito was beige and more like a panini with beige insides. We sent it back it was dreadful. The bacon bap average and greasy / fatty and the avo was chilled on the toast so wasn’t tasty. Service dropped off and our bill request was forgotten about. Disappointing. We will still get coffee when passing but not brekkie.
H. G.
In my top 3 Coffee shops in KZN!
H. K.
I have not found a better cup of coffee than here in Putney. Every cups of coffee looks nice and carefully done.
R. T.
Bloody excellent coffee, good brunch but long waiting times!
I’ve been here 3/4 times and it’s always great coffee but I only go when I’m not in a rush since the wait times can be a little long (even to pay the bill). Staff are friendly and food is generally worth the wait. Give it a go for a lazy Sunday!
A. A.
Top coffee and very friendly staff
R. F.
Visited today with a friend and my 3 year old. Very friendly staff, helpful and attentive. My toddlers Scrambled egg arrived with 'pepper' on it which she doesn't eat (fussy toddler) but to be fair we hadn't mentioned. I was going to scrape it off, but the smiley lady insisted on getting a new one (thus making my life SO much easier). My eggs benedict was superb and the flat white coffee was best I've had for a while. Great place for lunch and a chat :-)
S. W.
The Greatest Coffee Shop In SW London.. Grind is a fantastic place to eat, drink and chill. A great place to catch up with friends, have a meeting or disappear into a book. The staff are great and the owners have spent money and time creating a place where coffee can not only be drunk but also appreciated. What a great team... Go Grind!
A. H.
Love it!! What an awesome place!! Food was delicious, coffee was yummy (make sure to ask for extra hot though otherwise it comes at just the right "drinking" temperature) and the ambience was abuzz (probably from the caffeine 😊)!! Will definitely be back!! The apple and mint tea was absolutely divine too!!
*Please open one in Kingston??!!*
A. M.
Grind is a Putney focal point and one of the best coffee shops in London. Great drinks and tasty, reliable food. Serves beer and wine as well as coffee, and the menu after lunchtime features a small range of more substantial food such as burgers. Quite trendy with the typical basic interior, but still more comfortably suburban and not as severe as some of the hipster spots nearer to central London. Young crowd with a big antipodean, cyclist and rowing influence. Service can be a bit slow and the staff vary unpredictably between friendly and mildly disinterested.
E. G.
The Grind Coffee Bar in Putney is a great addition to an area that doesn't have many other local coffee shops nearby. The employees were very welcoming, the atmosphere was nice with good music and great to get some work done. I tried a smoothie, which tasted great, however was smaller than expected and overpriced (the price wasn't on the menu board).
Overall, I would recommend Grind Coffee Bar for meeting up with a friend or to get some work done, but I probably won't become a regular there since I'm a student and the selection is pricey.
N. B.
Best coffee in London in my not so humble opinion, bit pricey for me, but for the local clientele, who cares, they have more money than sense anyways so good bloody luck to them.
Actually, probably the best coffee I have ever had, including Vietnam, where coffee is everywhere in all its weird and wonderful forms and mixtures.
A. W.
This is my favourite place for brunch in London. But I think a lot of people agree as it is always super busy.
Always worth waiting for a table as the turnover is quite high and one is always available shortly.
Z. H.
Great coffee, you get a free coffee if you buy a bag a coffee which is really motivating. Great milk alternatives (Rude Health). Only down: coffee tastes a bit burned sometimes. Been to other Ground and the coffee always tasted really clean there. Not sure what's the difference. All in all great!
G. B.
Grind Coffee Bar in Putney is the perfect place for a relaxed lunch on a busy day. It is a really nice little place that offers decent coffee and a range of sweet and savoury treats.
One of the things I liked most at Grind Coffee Bar were the big windows. This makes this place a very light coffee shop, quite good if you want to read something and enjoy a great coffee.
My coffee tasted really good, my savoury scone was delicious and the strawberry and something muffin was one of the best muffins I ever had. Fair enough, it is probably always easy to win me over with strawberries...
Altogether, since I moved offices to Putney, I enjoyed my lunch break never more than at Grind Coffee Bar. If you work or live in the area and like a good coffee, Grind Coffee Bar is definitely a place you should check out!
K. S. B.
tldr; Very highly recommended for good coffee and relaxation.
Excellent coffee which is taken seriously: a medium-roast espresso blend (Caveman) but it's the slightly lighter-roast single-origin Yirgacheffe natural which works best as an espresso in my opinion. Other single origins available as pourover/filter which change every so often. 250g bags on sale of decaf and Caveman and sometimes others. Decent dairy alternatives available (soy, almond). Also serves tea; matcha latte, turmeric latte; nice decaf (CO2 process). Some emphasis on ethical sourcing/fairtrade.
A wide selection of pastries and cakes, not quite as highbrow as Prufrock or as varied as Gails but very impressive. The big food strength is the menu which takes smashed-avo-on-toast cuisine to a whole new level. The corn fritters are excellent. In general I'd say you can trust the food in a place which can poach eggs well and GCS can poach eggs well.
Appealing vibe, focussed and busy but relaxed. Layout includes perching space near the door, a larger seating area down a few steps, and extra space at the back which is open-roofed in summer and warmed by radiant top-heaters in winter. The decor is kind of 'stripped-back urban cosy' with bare brick, plenty of light, wooden tables and benches with cushions, lots of plants around, a bit of upcoming art on the walls, a chilled playlist which occasionally wanders just far enough off the beaten track, and an atmosphere of mutual respect ie staff are friendly, accommodating, eager to provide great service and get the job done but you feel like their rights are stood up for as people too and customers who do step over the line into behaving like jerks are politely explained to that it won't do. (There should be more of this in the world. Particular kudos to Vanessa for keeping it real.)
Family-friendly. The staff are good with children (as well as with 7-am sporting crowds, harried freelancers, glamorous couples etc). There's one long staircase down by the till in the middle that you'd want to watch with toddlers and otherwise it's a pretty safe environment. The loo is a huge room with a large door; it's on street level (no steps).
I live locally and regularly use Ground Coffee Society as an office to get me through dull working-from-home days. Over a couple of years I have become very impressed by the consistency of the quality of the coffee, food, service and atmosphere. It's popular for a reason.
Highly recommended.
H. C.
A lovely place! Quite wide range of options for coffee lovers. Nice vibe for friends, couples as well as people who wanna spend time just by themself! Usually very busy the whole day during the weekend.
T. W.
I had a breakfast burrito which was tasty and very big. But what made this place was the coffee. I drink black americano so i can really taste the coffee flavour. Their grind is beautiful. Hints of chocolate and nice flavour but not overpowering.
V. K.
Good coffee and wide selectione of cakes. The seats at the back provide privacy contrary to the ones outside the front where it's busy and street traffic can be noisy. Staff are polite but seemed tired one hour before closing, then started reminding that they'd be closing in 15, 10, 5 minutes...which was quite irritating.
H. N.
Great brunch options including an excellent avocado on toast with feta. Coffee is good, service is quick and staff are friendly. Place is popular and has a nice ambience- great Putney option 🙌
C. S.
Cool Putney cafe (best on Lower Richmond Road) with good food selection. Even better in summer when the roof at the back is open. One downside is the slightly odd “no laptop” rule on Saturday and Sunday brunch times.
J. O.
Cozy and comfortable interior, outside table where you can enjoy freedom, and delicious coffee are excellent.
Hope the business hours are long. ^^
Close 4pm
F. H.
I've probably been here about 15 times and I have never been disappointed. Always bring friends & family here and everyone is always full and satisfied. Very good value (coffee a little expensive) but food portions are fab and not pricey. Best brunch in SW!
H. C.

Great coffee quick service and kind staff

Very good coffee! Simple food done really well. Good value dishes. Friendly staff. Nice little courtyard out the back.
Z. H.

Generally a nice place, however three times I have visited now (mid-Afternoon) and they have run out of their filter coffee. Can I recommend that if you have something on the menu, you ensure that you have it in stock for the whole day?
C. S.
One of the best cappuccinos I've had in London!! The food was also delicious & the service was great. This is a really nice restaurant :)
S. P.
Uber trendy coffee shop that even roasts it's own blend. Some of the best coffee you'll taste on West London and great cakes too. A favourite with locals and cyclists with plenty of seat and covered outdoor area.
A. H.
Coffee of the day day is always great and nice breakfast options
A. C.
Very good coffee! Simple food done really well. Good value dishes. Friendly staff. Nice little courtyard out the back.
J. M.
Been one of my favourite coffee places since moving to london 2010 - and though I’ve moved all over the city, I’ll always find my way back to Ground! Great coffee, great food, great staff
D. P.
One of my favourite places to get coffee in Putney. Coffee is always of high quality, and it's quite conveniently located if you're on the west side of putney. Definitely worth a little walk for the good coffee
H. K.
One of the best cappuccino I have had in London ❤️❤️❤️nice and cozy place
T. C.
The nicest coffee shop in Putney. Serve up some nice coffees, tasty teas and morish meals. The mini sun deck out the back is a good place to hang out if you can grab a spot but its normally busy.
M. J. K.
Beautiful coffee, and a great avo toast that was very reasonably sized with amaze ingredients - plus sweet decor; I'm a sucker for exposed brick - staff are super friendly, definitely would recommend
P. S.
Best coffee in the neighborhood. I usually take the cappuccino. They also stock some good beans for grinding at home; hopefully a bit more often Ethiopians but the Kenyans are very good as well.
A.
Always good coffee and friendly staff with positive mood. If you are in Putney, do not consider other coffee shops, because this is definitely the best one.
T. J.
Awesome little Kiwi Coffee Bar. Have to ask for them to make the drinks extra hot otherwise you gulp it down in two seconds because they are so yummy. The banana bread also rocks.
D. S. d. R.
Coffee is good and cakes are too, if both a bit overpriced. 3 stars for quality. 1 lost because of price, 0.5 because of speed of service and 0.5 for not admitting dogs.
P. H.
If you only go to one place in Putney for coffee then you have to go here.
Awesome flat white, plenty of seating and the food is top notch. Great sandwiches and cakes.
J. J.
Friendly staff and easily the best coffee in Putney. I would recommend.
A. H.
Great coffee and tasty sweet treats. But the Breakfast burrito was a let down and the service was quite slow - 15 mins to grab a can from the fridge?
D.
Excellent place! Friendly, fast service. Lovely coffee and food. The bbq beef was so good.
R. T.
Their caveman blend coffee is unrivalled, like seriously. The best flat white ever
L.
Kindly provided much needed caffeine before opening, and it was one of the best coffees I've had in Putney. Great service.
J. L.
Very nice and relaxing local coffee shop. Prefect for a relaxing afternoon with friends or work on your projects. Oh by the way, the French toast with banana was soooo delicious!!
A. W.
This place does really nice coffee and the food is good too. I don't go regularly but it's always good when I do.
M. K.
Grind has the best coffee i've tasted in London, teamed up with a great eggs benny and friendly staff it was a fantastic spot to catch up with an old friend. will definately go back again!
A. T.
Love this place. The avocado on toast with extra haloumi is a must. If you are not that into coffee can recommend the chai late and you must have oe of their mint chocolate biscuits.
S. T.
The best coffee I've tasted in London. Great service with a tasteful and relaxed ambience. The kind of place that gives hipster joints a good name.
M. J.
Installed there dishwasher got a free coffee nice one
C. S.
One of the best cappuccinos I've had in London!! The food was also delicious & the service was great. This is a really nice restaurant :)
P. E.
Best local coffee - I order fresh beans that are roasted the same day.
J. F.
A small but quaint New Zealand coffee shop with delicious coffee - but ask for extra hot otherwise it's naturally luke warm. The food won't dissappointed in size or flavour.
F. B.
Coffee is beautiful, staff are super tender and they have a cosy fire thing in a sort of outside but kinda inside area at the back. With blankets. Love it 🙌🏼
M. B.
Absolutely incredible brunch place.
J. I.
Beautifully designed cafe, great coffee with either their 'Caveman' blend, or their single origin. Great baked goods and brunch food.
A. T. I.
Great coffee, fast service, good quality food. If you are a flat white lover then go nowhere else in this area.
C. T. S. M.
Awesome breakfast food and cold pressed juices to kick off your morning!!💪 wonderful service and amazing coffee!
T. O.
Lovely place, sometimes the music is godawful. Menu has been the same for over a year and could do with some freshening up. Nice little sun trap in the back there though.
D. R.
The best coffee in Putney by a country mile. Nice food, decent vibe though the service might be a tad too relaxed.
M. T.
Not sure why coffee doesn't taste like normal coffee. i guess I am used to filtered coffee in Canada. Still haven't found a place that comparable to back home.
C. M.
Watching the River Paegent on Sunday last, needed a coffee and on our way to Putney High Street found Grind ! thank goodness, great coffee, and food, highly recommend to anyone wanting to get away from High Street Coofee

k. s.
Nice coffee, but food is just regular, too many people love this place makes me a little tired with it.
D. J.
The best place in Putney for a coffee. They sometimes have a wee GF treat on offer at the counter but the menu isn't GF friendly.
T. C.
Nice vibe to the place, very cosy seating arrangement but good quality coffee and great looking food.
J. Z.

5 stars for coffee, food, and Simon.

O. G.
Top quality coffee, beans and the food is fantastic too
S. M.
Excellent coffee & great brunching options. Must go if in Putney area.
E. R.
Cosy cafe near to the Thames in Putney. Great coffee but the banana bread was a little disappointing on my last visit.
D. l.
Awesome after a morning run/bike, recommend the breakfast burrito with avocado on the side and a slice of baked goods on the way out.
A. T.
Coffee and food are unbelievable. People are awesome - Dave, Ben, Ems, James, Janna, Orla, Sam etc etc. Feels like going to a friend's house.
彭.
The coffee is good, but the background music is a bit noisy. The place is not suitable to work and reading.
