Reviews of Hej Coffee - Bermondsey
M. M.
Tge coffee is still great although the filter coffee is hit or miss. (Today is delicious tho!!) The team used to be so welcoming and happy, now I feel like every time I go there I "make the guys work" and I want to get my coffee and leave quickly. Today I was served by a person who was more interested in her phone.
E. M.
Nice and relaxed cafe on the square and close by the White Cube, with facilities for laptops to connect. Great banana cake. Also a few tables outside for the good season.
C. N.
Cozy space and nice vibe
Bagel and coffee were delicious!!!
Prices are decent!
People are nice too :)
One star taken away for being a bit cold and not having toilets :(
L.
Ordered cheese and tomato sourdough toastie and this is what I got. The edge of the tomato that’s hard and unpleasant to eat. The bacon brioche was even less appetising. Shame since the ingredients seem to be of good quality which gets the 2 stars plus 1 for the coffee but there was no care in the preparation. Still sour about getting served tomato edges that are barely edible.
S. W. M.
My son and I come here for our morning flat white and babycino before nursery weekly. The coffee is some of the best locally, and the service is always great. The food is a bit on the pricey side, but on par with other cafes locally.
N. K.
Perfect coffee!
Outside seating so if you’re cycling it makes a perfect quick stop👌🏻
(FYI - They do food and snacks too, I just didn’t try them)
N.
Popped in for a coffee & cinnamon bun, both were very good. Staff were friendly and it seemed a cosy environment but I didn’t stay (coffee to go). I’d definitely visit again though.
A.
😊😊The coffee tastes amazing! The vibe is relaxed and nice to work in. And there are accessible plugs. Look out for the discounted cakes on the weekend 😎😄😄
D. B.
Really nicely decorated coffee place with a super friendly staff. The coffee was very good and the atmosphere calm and enjoyable. Recommended.
V. S. M.
The coffee here is always good! I've been a bunch of times and it's just more consistent than cafes usually are. They have good filter too.
S. M.
Super relaxed, clever decoration, great drinks. Plenty of natural light, great for chilling out or working for a while.
A. R.
I've been a regular for a long time and I definitely recommend this place. The staff is lovely, the food is delicious and the coffee is great. Vegan friendly and pet friendly! Very cozy space to enjoy your coffee during those cold winter days and very refreshing options for the hot summer days.
A. N. F.
Great coffee and delicious buttery cinnamon buns!
The staff is super nice and they seem to have a lot of fun while working.
The cute italian barista prepared a beautiful flat white for me. ;)
Will definitely return.

Nice coffee shop with outdoor seating. Great quality coffee, though food is a bit pricey (£8 for toastie with salad).
M. V.
Good service, good coffee, nice environment, but unfortunately the internet wasn't working.
Y. M.
Style over substance. The coffee was nice. Sausage roll was tasty but the food was expensive for what it was. Selection of food and soft drinks is minimum. Staff are very nice but don't communicate with each other or customers very well (food stacks up at the till and no one does anything about it). Looks trendy and has a trendy crowd, but not up to scratch compared to the other coffee houses close by.
S. O.
Coffee was above average but not as good as others in the area (Watch House for example). Avocado sourdough toast was excellent, fresh bread, nice avocado and chilli flakes. Very inexpensive and despite the toast being simple they executed it well without trying to make it overcomplicated like other cafes who seem to drench it in olive oil or make it difficult to eat using your hands.
G. C.
Busy so a little wait for the food but lovely food and coffee
I. S. V.
Great oatmilk lattes and coffee in general, and well adapted for CV 19 new guidelines. Friendly staff. Have not tried food yet. They have a few outdoor tables but can get noisy as it sits next to tower bridge road.
K. M.
This is a really nicely decorated, modern and cosy little coffee shop. The coffee is really great. They have a good range of non-dairy milks as well. Sometimes it’s difficult to get a seat, but that just shows how popular it is I guess.
G. V.
Warm cozy place ! Good music, not to loud, good coffee, homemade granola with yogurt, and desserts.
Lovely place to work and chill !
A. S.
Nice sandwiches and bagels. Quick service
B. P.
You have to try the cinnamon roll. We had a hard time finding decent breakfast in London and this was a great little place.
R. H.
Another great coffee house in Bermondsey. This one is a great place for coffee, hangout or doing some work. There is a peaceful calm about the place and it is in a great spot. Visit here when the market is on and you have a great place to watch people, from inside or the outside tables. A great use of space and perfect spot off the tower bridge tourist area
F.
Great coffee, and good vegan options! Reasonably priced as well. The interior is lovely as well - modern shabby chic. Really inviting
T. N.
Nice coffee shop, friendly staff, however no toilet available inside the cafe, you will need to use the public one 50m away
P. B.
Great place to sit down, do some work, and have good coffee. They have pretty decent filter coffee (comfortingly familiar to my American tastes). The space is small, but I don't see it getting nearly as crowded as some other London coffee shops, because of the spacing of the chairs. That said, there's a limited number of outlets available. All in all a good experience though, and I look forward to coming back here!
I. R.
Great coffee, good cakes, great atmosphere, nice area (bit expensive... £4.5 for a slice of carrot cake... 😬)
n. m.
quality is what customer need and here they offer it
s. l.
Nice coffee but one of the staff was a bit rude. Made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. She also barked at her co-worker in front of the customers. If you work in the service industry a smile goes a long way!
S.
Very neatly setup and interior decor was done with attention to detail! Staff was very friendly and smiling. I got an avocado, tomato, and mozzarella bap, which was very tasty! Expertly made sandwich. Filter coffee with milk and sugar wasn't amazing, unfortunately. Perhaps the other drinks will be better? I'm sure to revisit for a latte or barista-recommended beverage.
F. B.
Great coffee and cakes.. hence you may wonder why only 3 stars..!
It just happens to me again and again when I come here that the service is quite disappointing. The staff should communicate more clearly amongst themselves to make things run more smoothly and faster. Also they could definitely smile a bit more!
K. M.
completely in love vege options delicious food. now when I live far from Bermondsey, I really miss them. great interior design and the atmosphere in the restaurant's there are not many nice pleasant places like this
D.
The coffee and the wifi is of good quality but that is pretty much the end of my positive experience. Every time I come here they make such a big deal over money. I much prefer a relaxed environment where I order, perhaps multiple coffees and some food, and at the end I settle my debt - like every other cafe. At Hej Coffee every time I order something they ask for money as if I'm going to run off with their £2.80. It comes across as very rude, at least to a British person. They lack a toilet and the staff don't seem confident enough to supply friendly conversation. The food (except porridge) is unbelievably expensive. £5 for a sandwich takeaway and £8 if you want to eat it in the cafe!
R. M.
Brilliant friendly cafe serving delicious coffee, fresh pastries and fantastic sandwiches. One of the best independent establishments I've been to in Bermondsey and I've been working in the area for over 3 years. Well worth a visit!
J. J.
My favourite local coffee shop. They do everything well and their beans are some of the best around.
A. R.
Awesome coffee and place is cute to work for a couple of hours. Only if they had a restroom!!!! WiFi is a bit too slow. And the food is very overpriced for the offered quality.
M. R.
The WiFi here dosen't work. Everything else is good
P. T.
Pretty good coffee. Seemed a bit understaffed though with just one dude running all over the place.
T. K.
Incredibly cute coffee joint with the tastiest matcha latte and cinnamon roll (ask for it heated). Good amount of seating for the perfect getaway with a book or good friend. Friendly staff too!
I. M.
Super cozy and nice vibes! Good for tasty coffee and working on projects on your laptop :) Prefer this one to the Roastery since it feels more like a small local coffee shop rather than a chain
J. P.
Probably the best coffee on Bermondsey St. Service always pretty good and subbing dairy free milk at no extra cost is the cherry on top.
T. D.
I have to give 4 stars because of the price of some of the sweets. Though the cinnamon bun from Hej is by far the best cinnamon bun I've ever eaten, 3£ is a bit much to pay. The coffee is good, and it's a nice little shop inside!
A.
Nice atmosphere, decent coffee. Food is OK - too expensive for the quality really. Would be a 4 star if they had better chairs and a toilet.
C. M.
Really nice little coffee shop. Not a lot of room at busier times. Sadly no high chairs available for the little one.
Great cinnamon buns and they have iced latte for warmer days.
D. T.
Great coffee and very professional staff! Clean and welcoming
D. J.
Beautiful building, lovely atmosphere. I had a very tasty sausage roll with delicious salad. Vegan options available. Cake was disappointing but the atmosphere made up for it. Free wi-fi!
S. N.
I would totally recommend this cafe (they are open for takeaways in these times) - it's next to the Sainsburrys. Loved the healthier options they have as well.
B. K.
Visited this place a lot of times. They have great coffee and their staff is lovely. Especially the manager always takes good care of my wife and me.
J. C.
Great coffee, friendly staff, nice snacks
J. B.
I think this is my favourite coffee shop in Southwark. The coffee is delicious, I recommend the flat white, and the cakes on offer are very tasty. They do the best banana bread! It's quite cosy to sit inside as hej has a lovely 'hygge' atmosphere you can enjoy for hours.
K. L.
Just opened at the time of writing so a few tiny bugs to iron out. Cash only for now but card payments imminent.
Great, aromatic coffee and Swedish meatballs on the way. Hopefully, sugar laden Swedish cakes follow soon after!
G. B.
Today I finally managed to venture down South to Bermondsey to check out HEJ Coffee. It is a lovely, clean and simple coffee shop, Scandinavian style at its best.
Of course, besides sampling a decent and quite strong flat white, I could not leave without tasting a cinnamon bun. Slightly warm, it was as sticky as you expect - and delicious.
HEJ Coffee is another Swedish place in London to watch. I will definitely have to come back to check out the meatballs...
L. S. S.
Great coffee, great food and really friendly attentive staff.
Look forward to my morning coffee everyday.
Z. C.
Good coffee and delicious pastries, specially the cinnamon buns. It's a good place to work although WiFi can be a bit patchy sometimes if there's too many people
J. G.
Super fun friendly bit o Sweden in Southwark. Great coffee with deliciously satisfying food (the viking board meatballs are delectable) and the coffee is just as good as Stockholm. Plus, they have no muss, no fuss wifi, which is practical, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. I'd definitely come back and bring a friend!
M. G.
Super friendly staff! Very great coffee and good choices of food. Well recommended!
j. b.
A cosy contemporary interior exuding a cheap 'n cheerful-flat-pack sensibility jammed with laptop luvvies and efficient/alert/reticent staff getting on with it.
Serving accomplished coffee,(noteworthy) and an inviting pastry/bun array + lite bite variant.
Convivial and vibrant here in a territory percolating with contenders.
M. M.
Excellent working space with natural light and proper WiFi (no silly logins / tokens).
Coffee is still a little harsh. I think it's the beans.
The 'Everything cookies' are excellent.
A. L.
This is my local Scandi Cafe, it used to attract urban mum & dads especially on weekends, but Dante Carmassi (previously Cave on Bermondsey St) has recently set up his florist with them and it's just become so much more livelier than before, it's added more hip, cool and COLOUR. Also you get free coffee with any flower purchase, yes please! Food wise, it's as you would expect in Sweden... Cinnamon buns and meat balls and cake.....
R. M.
Lovely, independent coffee shop at the corner of Bermondsey Square & Tower Bridge Road. Really great coffee & fabulous cakes (try the cinnamon buns and the salted caramel blondie). Dog friendly too.
M. F. L.
Warm, cozy, airy and bright with a healthy dose of wood- Hej is a relaxing and stimulating space. Dante's flowers add a unique touch to the cafe. Get their cheekily named Great White (a large flat white) or an orange-infused cold brew coffee to suit the sunny spring weather! ps they do DripApp too!
P.
Finally!!! Good coffee!
And tasty light breakfast options.
G.
Great coffee and friendly service, and one of the most delicious cheesecakes that I've had in a long time. It's only a small place so it's sometimes hard to get a seat.
L. C.
Nice relaxed vibe where you can enjoy a coffee and a chat and a bite to eat. Delicious fresh food.
C. L.
Good place, good coffee, good food, good wifi and plugs !!
C. D.
A great cafe with an easy going vibe, good selection of food, and tasty coffees. They do have wifi, though it was temperamental the times I tried to use it.
M. G.
Good coffee but their cinnamon buns are to die for :) Make sure to get it heated up!
S. P.
Wonderful place to sit with coffee in a ceramic mug (well done Hej, environmentally aware) it is staffed with lovely people and the food is fresh and reasonably priced.
R. A.
Free extra shot into a great coffee. You can draught cold brew by yourself. Beautiful setting, joint store with florists.
B. B.
I have never visited this establishment but I sat in the seat in front of one of the baristas when on a train from Liverpool Street to Norwich. He was going to visit his "folks" and spend some time "getting away from it all" and "swimming with the dogs". The very fact that I am writing this review tells you how forthcoming he was with details of his life while speaking to the kindly middle aged lady who sat next to him.
He has cousins, many cousins, cousins with sofas for him to sleep on. He likes his job, he's really excited by the fact that they don't wastes so much coffee at Hej, he's enjoying the routine and the responsibility. He really likes his job. He could take this skills he's learned anywhere in the world. He could work in Melbourn, don't you know. Despite this, he really cares more about his music. Guitars are a work of art. You have to really feel a guitar to know if it's suited to you. The woman shouldn't worry, he'll keep his guitar on the floor between his legs. He doesn't want it out of his sight.
He speaks in the strange new way that well educated and well off young men do these days basically, literally, actually, like, kind of, ridiculous, definitely, for sure, you know, sort of, and stuff, yeah yeah yeah. The rage begins to build up inside me. He's, like, basically, littering this, sort of, conversation with, like, unnecessary, kind of, words and stuff. Yeah yeah yeah, totally. And it's like, actually, literally, basically, totally making me want to turn around and slap him in the face. s'ridiculous.
I can't see him but I know, I just KNOW he's wearing a polo shirt, possibly two, both with the collars infuriatingly popped. He's teamed his Jack Wills navy polo with salmon pink shorts, turned up well above the knee. I just know it. Tan loafers. It has to be tan loafers. Could be deck shoes, but they're tan and he's not wearing socks. A black string necklace with a shell from his gap yar sits upon his hairless chest. He's blond. Floppy haired and blond.
I sat in front of him, for an hour an a half. I didn't turn around. I was rooted to the spot with irritation. My stop came a little before his. I got up to get my suitcase. Upon turning around I was shocked by what greeted me. Sat in the window seat was a tall bearded man, with long hair pulled back into a low ponytail. He wore jeans and black trainers. His T-shirt was black and said "Paper, Scissors, Metal" on it. I was flabbergasted. Now, I'm quite a shy person and, despite all of the rage, I wouldn't have dreamt of saying anything to him about how he was butchering the English language and how he was clearly educated enough to know better and that just because Jamie Laing does it on Made In Chelsea doesn't mean it's acceptable, but after seeing this hairy face and black-clad attire all I could think to say was "Your face does not match your voice. Please address this". Unfortunately I was too shy to say even that. So hopefully he'll see this and know now.
U. K.
Go for cappuccino! It's basically the best cappuccino I've ever drunk!! The athmosphere is lovely and the staff is kind. A clear 5 stars!!
M. P. (. P.
Their cinnamon buns are very tasty, a little steep at £3 a pop but worth the trek every now and then.

Great staff and food...full however, of what I call wifi-parasites; nursing a coffee - and taking up space - while they 'work'.

meh meh coffee with a meh meh service
Y. Z.
A relaxing cafe with cosy indoor space popular with students and sunny (when London allows it) outdoor seating reminiscent of an intercity garden sanctum. The food and coffee is high quality and particular good to see artisan sensibilities that extend beyond there typical lattes and into hot and cold filtered coffees.
J. V.
Very nice
