Reviews of Middleton Deli
H. C.
I've been visiting Middleton Deli fairly regularly for the last few months and of course I want to support local businesses particularly during the pandemic. Its such a shame to then say that my recent experiences have been disappointing.
Middleton has the potential to a beloved local, but the biggest issue for me is the attitude of much of the staff - no one really seems to care.
I just visited and I had to wait for 30 minutes for a breakfast, I brought this up with the waitress who was speaking to the owner/manager at the time - they barely acknowledged me, then someone from the kitchen staff came with my food. Not a single one of them apologised.
If when ordering the food - I was given an expectation of the wait time then I would not have any issue and I would not have been late to my meeting. Hoping that the service level improves before I give up on them.

Popped in to treat a friend to a surprise coffee, and was greeted with a big smile from the staff, felt very warm and welcomed. I didn't have the coffee but my friend really liked it, I did however have the carrot cake, which is by far the best I've had 5/5. Safe to say I went back again, for another slice. I've also tried the vegetarian breakfast which is really filling and a delight. I will be back again the decor is also stunning got a very hip, chill vibe thumbs up.

Been a few times and whilst the coffee is generally ok and the pastries are good (if you're feeling flush - nearly £4 for a slice of carrot cake last time I checked), I've had mixed experiences with the food, from really good to when I went the other weekend and ordered French toast. When it arrived, it was stone cold, rubbery and pretty sorry looking. I took it back and the staff member was fine about it and was going to have another made. But after checking with the kitchen they were told that they had run out of French toast. All seemed a little odd and made me think it wasn't being made fresh. But they gave me a refund without question. They do charge more for a flat white than a cappuccino - I'd love to know why places do that because it feels like I'm being conned. Feels like they have a high staff turnover too, and they don't allow dogs so the vibe here is a mixed one - not completely at ease with itself as a local spot.

Came in recently for a vegan breakfast with a flat white, was served by a tall, dark haired member of staff who was really polite and friendly. Breakfast was amazing, as was the service, will definitely be back soon!

Love this place although I do prefer the quality of the food when eating in to the take away. Lovely staff, nice family friendly ambiance, small and intimate setting with outside seating, fresh meals, a variety of mouthwatering salads. Suitable for vegans, vegetarians as well as everytarians.
Love their Salmon fishcakes / vegan breakfasts / fruit infusion tea / peacan tarts 😋.

Great local cafe, often pop in for a coffee and a croissant. The salads and veggie sandwiches are also particularly tasty! Outside seating and a nice place for breakfast at the weekend before heading to Brockley Market.

A really great cafe! I’ve been waiting for one like this in the area for a while. Delicious salads, great coffees and superb breakfasts. Highly recommend.
Some constructive criticism:
- Would be nice if it had WiFi
- Should have mustard
- MUST have brown sauce

Saw this nice looking new café in Brockley/Lewisham and thought we had to try it out. Cozy and modern interior and inviting to stay. We got a bit of a shock though when we saw that we paid £13.78 for a latte, an americano and two pieces of cake (one chocolate and one carrot). Thankfully the coffees and the cakes were all absolutely delicious which definitely made up for it being on the more expensive side. For this price it will have to stay a special treat though as we can't afford becoming regulars.

I took a friend on a Saturday morning to finally try out this recent place and it was lovely! Very nice coffee, the food as well and I find the prices totally OK (the coffees are big and worth it!). The music is nice as well, staff very nice and doing their best to make it work for you. Totally recommand to have a stop there for a brunch, coffee, nice cake as well.
They also sell fresh bread (and the French I am can tell you it smells very good) and organic products as well.
Definitely worth popping by!

They have Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale, need I say more 😋 Good coffee and pastries too!

An absolute MUST for any coffee lover! An amazing place with friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. Carrot cake is👌🏼Also Vegan and Vegetarian friendly and prices are reasonable. It will certainly NOT disappoint, so if you fancy a bite and a superb tasting coffee this is the place to go!

Love the location as this is my new local. The interior was great too but it was let down by the coffee and pastries. If the coffee beans were better and the pastries fresh this would easily be 5 stars

This is my new favourite café in South London! I ordered the full english breakfast and it was delicious. The portion size was great and the food was well-seasoned and tasted very fresh. Also, the service was amazingly quick and friendly!

Lovely little cafe and a great addition to the area. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Good tunes too.
Great full English with black pudding 😊 Good coffee. Prices pretty standard for this kind of establishment eg. £2.50 - 2.90 for tea, £5.50 sandwich, breakfast /brunch all under £10.

Great local cafe and deli - shame I don’t live in the area otherwise I’d become a regular. . An exceptional range of breads and cakes - the carrot cake was one of the best I’ve tasted in a while ( and I’ve tried a lot! ) and they have very good coffee. Good music selection and friendly staff. I loved the decor too.

Really happy about this local coffee shop. Been here few times already and I am stopping for a coffee every time i am around. Coffee is always great, clearly supersedes the quality of the notorious brands. But I must admit one of the best coffees i ever had was made by Monika. If you have the chance definitely try her oat latte. Mind blowing! Overall staff is friendly and place is very cosy. I reckon is quite a new place as it was not there few months ago. Well done to the owner! Keep up the good work.

Pleasant, modern cafe with high quality food - really excellent variety creative salads (and you can mix your choices) - salmon & chicken addons are available too but they have a limited number daily so get them before they run out. Brilliant carrot cake. The English breakfast is pretty good but this place really focuses on healthy food. Friendly service. They also have some excellent bread and jams & pickles etc on sale to take home
E. E.
Always friendly service and delicious food. Got two English breakfasts (one vegetarian) to go and 2 coffees and it was all delicious! So glad the kitchen is open again.
L. H.
Coffee is great - taste wise, up there as one of the best in area. Food good too.
Service can be hit & miss as to friendliness & welcome. Some visits, I’ve received a welcoming friendly vibe, others not so at all & on those days I’m left feeling less cheerful & that I’ve mis-spent my money for coffee in the area

Surprised that this lovely deli in not dog friendly, but not to worry there are plenty of other pubs/cafes to go to that allow dogs. These guys are missing out on a big group of customers though. 🐶🐕❤️
Really enjoyed the sandwiches and cakes, good atmosphere, the staff were attentive and friendly. The decor is trendy and very glad there is a small place like this 5 minute walk from us away from the centre of Lewisham. Looking forward to go back and try the breakfast. 😃

A great spot with lots of potential - needs WiFi! The food is very tasty and the coffee is usually pretty good, although slightly on the pricier side. The atmosphere could be improved with friendlier service & not having the manager taking over the window seat with papers and noisy phonecalls. Hasn't quite got the friendly neighborhood coffee shop vibe down which is a shame.
D. L.
Great, little neighbourhood café with lovely staff and fantastic coffee. Have now been here easily a dozen times and really like this place. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and the food is great as well, particularly the amazing salads at lunch time! Coffee is a bit on the pricier side but it is very good coffee!
G. O.
Definitely one of my favourite coffee places to go often, staff there are so kind and very helpful always going out of their way to make my time and other peoples time great while at the shop, one of the ladies who I believe is the manager is real great, style, attitude, personality is lovely and genuinely just a nice person. Service is very quick never waiting for long, staff are always polite and ask general simple nice questions like “how are you today and take care hope to see you soon and have a great day” which is nice. I’ve recommended the Middleton Deli to friends and family so they can experience a great and lovely atmosphere.

Good food, always friendly

Visited Myddletons today the new deli in Lewisham, greatly impressed with the quality of the ingredients for the breakfast. The homemade beans were excellent. Pleasantly surprised that two perfectly poached eggs with Soda Bread were the standard fair for a full English . My partner had a look on his face after his Eggs Benedict that I normally have to work hard to achieve. Would definitely pop by again the decor was kinda cool too. I just love the feeling of a new find before everyone else.

This is a cute little place and very welcome to the neighbourhood. It's a shame that they don't invest more in making great coffee and by that I mean speciality coffee. Browns of Brockley and Big Bro Espresso not far from this place are rocking it when it comes to their beans.
The food looks delicious in the open display but the way the shelves are layered is a bit of a hazard, every person walking past is waving their hands, wallet above the food and it doesn't seem like a very hygienic way to keep it. This really put me off getting any of the buffet food. If the shelves were higher, you'd avoid this kind of contamination.
I think with little improvements, this place could a really sought after spot.
N. C.
Lovely cafe with delicious food. Visited for the first time today and I must say that prices are really competitive. Huge croissants, amazing taste. I will surely come back
N. G.
Nice place to hang out and have a coffee and the food options are nice as varied (not necessarily what you’d expect in Lewisham). Decent amount of space to sit, including a downstairs.
However this isn’t a place to relax and work from as there’s no WiFi or power points (deliberate decision?) and the mobile signal isn’t always great so you can’t rely on 4G as a backup. Enjoy while your battery lasts!

Great Cafe.
The attention is amazing, very friendly staff.
Perfect for a good breakfast and a good chat.
Thank you.

Lovely local café, nice food. Defs more than just a deli. The site it's on has been vacant for so many years, it's lovely to see something great there now! The downsides: really rubbish to the extent of disruptive music sometimes, and no WiFi. Ps the honey you can buy there is lovely.
E. K.
My favourite local spot to go! Love their coffee and breakfasts are just perfect!

Absolutely gorgeous cafe in Lewisham. Not pretentious at all but a genuinely bohemian feel. Very friendly staff and eggs benedict worth going back for, which I did. Love this place.

Super friendly, good stop

Nice place, we really enjoyed brunch, and the coffee is great too. Guy who runs the place really knows his music, and told us all about the artists we were listening to - just excellent and cant wait to go back.
R. M.
Great breakfast options and you can get lovely sourdough to take away
H. T.
A superb breakfast and is a cracking little cafe/restaurant. The coffee is awesome too. They do a great range of salads and sandwiches and baked goods.
D. V.
Lovely local café. I love the banana walnut cake here. And the salads are good.
S. C.
A lot of love for this cafe, really nice vibe! Popped in for a coffee after a run recently and chatted to Eric, he mentioned its 20% off on saturday mornings if you've got a parkrun barcode which is an absolute winner!
W. F.
The coffee is fantastic in place. Hands down best in SE. Food's ok, lil overpriced for me.
L. S.
Lovely cafe. Friendly staff, good sandwiches. Also the best place to get sourdough loaves in the area.
M. B.
I've been here a couple of times now, the coffee is probably one of the best americanos that I've had but the food is overpriced and underwhelming.
K. H.
Lovely little place on the corner! Proper tea with loose leaves and OMG the chocolate cake is yummy 😍 Really nice staff too!
R. B.
Nice cosy cafe. Friendly staff and good food. Recommend the vegan breakfast.

Cracking little cafe. Will definitely visit again.
M. L.
Recently moved to Lewisham and found this cozy place with great coffee and exciting cakes.
M. S.
Great stuff, great coffee. Really nice shop!!
L.
Nice decoration which gives a countryside vibe. The food is ok and could do with some slight changes, the matcha latte could have less matcha and hollandaise sauce could be slightly less sour. However I do love that the muffin is a bit crispy (it was probably fried or toasted), bacon was crispy and a bit sweet
N. T.
Nice cafe, relaxed atmosphere, good salads, good coffee, lots of different teas.
O. W.
Wonderful friendly welcome even when under staffed. Excellent service and delicious food.
