Reviews of Notes Coffee Roasters & Bar | Trafalgar Square
C. B.
Really nice coffee shop, open late until 9pm. Had a nice relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. A good selection of coffee and other drinks available.
L. M.
Nice place to stop for a coffee or something to drink. We had a tea and a smoothie bur we did not try the food.
N. S.
Stopped by here while waiting for an appointment close by. Clean, spacious and friendly staff. Toilets were clean too. We only had coffee and chai latte but both were really good. Pastries looked delicious. Definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend.
S. C.
Ordered matcha latte and pancakes. Pancakes were good (standard as can’t go wrong with pancakes!). Matcha latte was also decent. Very busy environment and close to the next table- definitely not a place to work on your laptop!
N. A.
Loveliest food, drink and staff! A cosy Café that doesn’t feel to crowded, whilst being able to Study/Work. Decent outdoor space as well. All of the Staff members were very friendly, and the Prices are good too - Students head here! (:
I. N.
No ce coffee shop in trafalgar square. Probably one of the best options around.
Big interior space and some external seating.
Staff is great and super nice. Coffee is good, but didn't sweep me off my feet.
Great carrot cake with vanilla cinnamon frosting.
A. T.
One of my favourite coffee spots - delicious coffee and pastries! Choice of plant-based milks too. Staff are always friendly and helpful - happy to chat about coffee! Some tabled seating. They operate a loyalty card scheme too. Notes also do an online coffee subscription delivering to your home which is well worth doing if you like their roasts/blends - got me through the pandemic!
P. S.
Welcoming and busy cafe/bar on St Martin's Lane. It was Saturday evening but no-one seemed to have to wait to get a table even though it looked full. Friendly service and excellent negronis and wine.
C. T.
The coffee and atmosphere at Notes was actually very nice. We treated ourselves to a slice of cake each, mine (a cinnamon cake) was succulent and rather generous. The drinks selections are also quite well considered, though a more premium (naturally) sparkling water would likely complement the coffee better rather than the plastic bottled water there at present, something I have experienced in other premium coffee shops. I would certainly recommend Notes.
A. L.
A great cafe for brunch/lunch or just coffee. Their 'Super breakfast' was yummy.. great tasting coffee and super staff
K. C.
My recent go to place, easy online order with a QR code for eat in.
Latte is very smooth and nice.
Though Matcha latte still has chunks, not fully dissolved...
Limited variety sandwiches are nice though.
J.
Service is slow but drinks were nice. I had the rum hot chocolate, my friend had a latte. You almost have to wave to grab their attention even if theyre just walking past you . The atmosphere seems always busy. It wasnt a fully operational table service, id rather they just let people come up and order when ready.i felt like we werent the only ones looking around to be served.
We only had drinks but the couple infront of us had salmon on toast and avocado on toast which looked really nice.
R. R.
Outstanding coffee which is rare in UK but this place is settling the trend. Nice atmosphere, popular for informal meetings and friends catch up. It stays open in evening and then becomes more of a wine bar. Limited number of power sockets, one by stairs and another opposite the water. Wifi only 30 minutes but if you buy another coffee they will provide WiFi code. Friendly staff. Limited but high quality food selection.
A.
Food was decent , but pricey. The cafe was very busy and the staff’s attitude was not great.
Took at least 45 mins to come and take order, forgot to give cutlery , did not ask before picking up plates from the table (felt rude)
Z. K.
Cozy and clean place with charming staff and selection of hot beverages and pastries.
Good place for meetings even though tables bit close so not sure if it would be good to work from.
S. B.
What a find. Stumbled on this place on a rainy Wednesday lunchtime. Brunch Menu in the day then an evening menu from 5pm. Great pancakes and coffee.
A. L.
Spacious and comfy cafe. The sourdough all day brunch is a refreshing delight
F. A.
Excellent flat white with soy milk. Excellent cortado with oat milk. Thier valentine special latte (with beetroot and dates syrup) is great too. Great breakfast menu.
B.
Good place to have a cup of coffee near National gallery. Friendly staffs and service was fast. Orange cake was citrusy and zesty! It's but too sweet but good combination with black coffee. Might be back time to time.
G. T.
Knowledgeable staff and delicious coffee. They’ll happily let you try a couple of different types of beans - and there is also a loyalty card. Also a wonderful smell!
J.
I love how they have the huge long benches that anyone can sit around! It feels more social and just a lovely touch to bring others together. The mint tea I ordered was so cute😂 the glass jug and mint leaves made it look really effective. And for the coffee... Love the little heart! They have paid so much attention to detail with the food/drink presentation, the interior - A lovely rustic coffee shop with a homely feel.
V. K.
Very busy as in a very touristy area. The acoustics of the cafe is bad so quite difficult to hear one other if you are a larger group as it gets noisy there. The coffee and cakes are very tasty. Staff is friendly.
G. E.
Very tourist location - coffee okay... pastries are super dry so wouldn't recommend for anyone really! Service was slow - infact a couple who sat after me (next to me) were served before... cardinal sin - won't come again
s. s.
Not the coffee everybody's raving about. It was just an ordinary coffee with gourmet tag. Good atmosphere and customer service.
R. P.
Some friends and I visited Notes whilst attending the Feast of St George in Trafalgar Square. I'd seen this coffee shop recommended on Londonist this week, and added to my "to visit" list. When everyone decided at pretty much the same time that they needed caffeine, I suggested Notes.
Only a short walk from Trafalgar Square, I was surprised it wasn't busier - I just wonder whether the queue of people waiting to go into the theatre a couple of doors down was putting people off as they were blocking the entrance as we approached.
The decor inside is nicely retro and in keeping with the age of the building. Some might call it hipster, but I would disagree.
The Scottish guy behind the counter was friendly and welcoming and took my order of a flat white quickly. The small selection of cakes and pastries looked really tasty, but I'd already eaten at the Feast.
The seating layout is a mixture of two and four person tables, will a couple of long communal tables.
My flat white arrived in the usual smaller cup (does anyone else believe a flat white should be as large as a latte?). I didn't note the origin of their coffee, but from the amazing flavour I would take a guess at Ethiopian.
The almond croissant my friend bought looked really good, with a good amount of almond paste through the middle.
I lovely little independent coffee shop barely a stone's throw from Trafalgar Square. Price-wise I would say it was on a par with the rest of London.
Y. A. (.
Great atmosphere, great food

When central London is sunny, I love to sit at the window counter to enjoy a few hours of sun beam... breakfast is great, matcha latte could be better.
A. P.
Pretty cafe, plenty of space to have meetings or study/work. The savory food was a bit pricey but lattes were a decent price.
M. T.
Excellent place, we spent the evening chatting and being served wine, cheese and chocolate fondant. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Atmosphere relaxed. Exactly what we needed
D. B.
Great location but also a busy location. Average coffee at and average price for such a prime location.
Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the selection of coffees available.
Great lighting by the window for an aesthetic photo.
Shut the door behind you on a blowy day.
L. J. O.
The coffee is good. The food is good but overpriced. The staff are terribly unfriendly and miserable, apart from maybe one guy who although quiet is at least polite.
J. S.
The staff is friendly & breakfast is great 🤩 Soooooo nice to be back in London after lockdown at a nice cafe 🙂
W. W.
Excellent food friendly people and top coffee. Try the mushrooms and parmesan
K. B.
I had a really lovely coffee here yesterday with my family the staff was very friendly and helpful 😄
L.
I'm a big fan of notes as they do a nice matcha latte and have the option to have it with oat milk. This particular shop is a bit busier than what I'm usually use to and there's always people coming in and out. I wouldn't suggest this place to work in but good for takeaways.
b. s.
Very nice and cozy coffee place with a good atmosphere, and good selection of coffee, sweets, small plates and alcohol.
K. V.
Coffee was of good quality, however had to wait for about 30 mins for it, plus pay service charge when there was actually a poor slow service. Never ever I had to wait that long for just a small cup of coffee... wont be coming back
G. H.
Very good coffee and breakfast place with attentive staff and a busy vibe. Recommended 👍
L. g.
What an amazing find !! Such a lovely little hide away, the sourdough toast and poached eggs are recommended
Lovely staff, great service
A definate must visit on my next trip here
B. B. A.
Really yum banofee muffin! Not a fan of the matcha latte however, as it was much too milky which overwhelmed the match flavour.
W. T.
Great service, great coffee, good food and a nice atmosphere.
T. G.
A really nice coffee shop for the centre of London, it manages to be right next to Trafalgar square and not fall into the trap of being touristy. The coffee and cake are great too.
N. S.
One of my favourite coffee spots in London, been frequenting since I was in high school. Great coffees, lovely and cosy atmosphere with plenty of seating
P. d. S.
Great eggs on toast! Loved the salmon! Awesome staff on top!
A. S.
Brilliant coffee, Carrot cake and staff!
H. C.
Cute decor and cozy place, friendly and flexible staff and super delicious! Also they have lactose free options, very appreciated!
S. R.
Nice and cozy place. Good for a read or a bit of work. Coffee is good and well prepared.
M. A. B.
Nice atmosphere and interiors, the coffee is good and the chai latte as well but need to be hotter, tried the cinnamon roll and was OK from overall taste yet the dough could be better
K. H.
Nice staff, great coffee
S. Z.
Amazing coffee, especially the hand-brew pour-overs!
F. R.
Has to be one of the best coffee în London
E. E.
This cafe is great! And they serve breakfast food until 3pm, which is also a plus.
B. B.
One of my favourite cafes in London. Lovely interior and they offer an excellent selection of loose leaf teas.
A. T.
Nice place but for less money you get more in other coffee shops close the same area
A.
Coffee was really nice, lovely place, friendly staff
F. v. W.
We ordered a small flat white and a small cappuccino - unfortunately they both had too much milk to taste the coffee properly...
W. Y.
Wonderful small coffee shop located very central in London. Would definately recommend this over going to a coffee chain. If you sit inside then they serve you at the table because they serve food too. I didn't eat any of the food, but the dishes looked good presentation wise and there was a good flow of people coming in to order coffee and food.
G. K.
I've been here many times now and they do the best coffee in town. Also the service is amazing. Always busy place and the staff are very friendly and smiley.
Definitely the best place to start your day ;)
S. R.
Should be 5 stars but they messed up my order. If a coffee shop is rated by the number of people who frequent it, this coffee / cafe is good. We like pour over coffee and though we could not choose the bean, our v60 brew was perfect. Search this place out and try it for yourself.
R. H.
Pleasant coffee shop and good service. Toilet is a single shared loo down some stairs so that could be better.
B. M.
Neat coffee shop/wine bar with a more upmarket food menu than your usual. Friendly staff (when they're not run off their feet with the pre-theatre crowd), often with bottled wines available to take away too. Definitely worth a visit, especially late on a weekday when the crowds have quietened.
C. M.
I visit infrequently but when I do, it's always enjoyable. Mix of private and group seating areas. Great coffee and pastry range. Plenty of breakfast options. Several powerpoints to charge devices. Great egg on bread for breakfast. Looking forward to next visit.
R. H.
Great cocktails after 5. Service was a bit slow and stunted but worth the wait. They definitely know what they’re doing
G. P.
Great for breakfast. Excellent coffee
M. L.
Very nice food and coffee, lovely fresh mint tea.
N. R.
It was a really nice coffee bar. Great menu choice and cosy seating. Nice and warm unless you get a seat by the door. They need to fix the door as it doesn't close but the waiters are VERY good at closing it everytime someone leaves it open.
L. R.
Good coffee, delicious cakes and on top of that you get a free package of coffee beans!
B. G.
The interior felt warm and cozy. It was quite crowded, but the staff still smiled and was very friendly with us. The coffee we ordered wasn't anything special, but it tasted good. Overall, a good experience
A. Z.
We came upon this restaurant our first day of a week long trip to London. Loved it so much we went back every day of our trip for breakfast! Fantastic food. Amazing coffee. Great staff!
F. S.
Stopped by after visiting the National Gallery - super friendly staff and delicious, quality, food and drinks
X. T. R.
Notes is a busy, buzzy little café come wine bar, as famous for its earthy roasted coffee as it is for the range of affordable wines it has on offer. It’s food menu is limited to sandwiches, salads, and pastries…of which we regretted trying; I hear their sandwiches are good though. I am not big on wine so I tried their ale instead (they don’t have proper beer). And now I know I’m not big on ale either (the India pale ale was utterly disgusting – ugh). Service was efficient and accommodating rather than friendly, which is more than acceptable considering how packed the place was when we visited. In a nutshell, Notes is a trendy alternative to the oh-hum high street franchises like Starbucks and Costa, and well worth a visit.
D. v. d. B.
Great coffee and small bites, but loud though
S. C.
Nice coffees and friendly service. Only small negative point is the queue can be slow moving when busy. But that said, quality is worth waiting for.
Once saw them make a fresh cappuccino for the table next to me as their colleague hadn't yet arrived. I felt this shows that they really care about good service.
C. H.
While a staple of the longstanding Notes coffee shops, just because it's the first doesn't mean it's the best. While the coffee was delicious, the service was lacking. Could be better in terms of experience which can be fixed with better customer service. We had the mushroom mousse which was nice, but the bread wasn't toasted (toasted bread being a staple in other Notes locations) and we had to find our cutlery.
L. A.
One of the non-mainstream coffee shops with individually designed and chosen tables and chairs. Perfect for a light dinner (the mushroom mousse is absolutely fantastic!) or a coffee and a slice of cake. Excellent location in Covent Garden/Leicester Square. Don't follow the small and stinky path between the buildings, but just pass by and you'll find the lovely coffee spot!
T.
Nice little cafe, had breakfast coffee was good
B. C.
One of my favourite places in this part of London. Been here few times and the coffee is amazing. Lovely place with nice atmosphere and great decoration. Staff are nice, polite and fast and the prices are affordable. Perfect for a chill with friends! What else is there to require?
T. R.
One of the most recent openings in the Notes franchise, it is a beautiful cafe located in the middle of City Point.
My favourite thing about this coffee shop is the staff who are always really nice and friendly. The coffee, as expected, is great and the food is pretty good too! The chicken and avocado sandwich I had there was to die for.
They are open in the evening for food and wine so it's a good place to visit regardless of the time of day.
M. T.
Really great quality food and coffee. Seats outside in the sun. Lovely staff. Can’t really ask for more. 👌🏽
S. M.
Love this place. Great location
Good coffee and nice food. Also good selection of wines and beers
B. t. H.
Great place for wine and small food. Nice atmosfeer and no loud music
J. G.
Cute little cafe that serves up quality coffee at a decent price (especially considering its location). The interior is bright and airy, almost with a french country house feel. It's small, and most tables accommodate 2-4 people, so it's perfect for a date.
A. B.
Fabulous brownies and mushrooms on toast, great friendly service from the Brazilian waitress 👍👍😀
G. A.
Sometimes you encounter a place that makes you wonder if a marketing agency has opened up your subconsciousness to create an experience just solely targeted at you.
Laid back coffee shop? Check. Old jazz records used as coincidental decor? Check. James Bond films playing on the TV? Check, check, check (Doctor No, at the time of visit, in case you were asking). Really this place couldn't be designed to appeal to my tastes more if I'd be asked the write down a list of exactly how I'd like to populate a coffee shop. Well, maybe some sofas would have been nice.
But take my personal taste aside - after all, unless you know me, this information will be of little use to you - and what you've got is a damn fine entry into the canon in a part of London where chain coffee shops are ten a penny and a really good coffee shop are considerably rarer.
Situated a hop, skip, and jump from the National Portrait Gallery, Notes manages to be quite unobtrusive yet equally appealing to anybody who wants a daytime meeting or a relaxed bottle of wine or a silky smooth coffee in the evening. Given the amount of cultural references around, it feels somewhat reminiscent of an independent cinema bar, which is no bad thing.
This isn't to say Notes is without criticism. I may have been joking about the sofas but the seats and tables are a little austere and not necessarily designed with comfort in mind, while the service to the tables does err somewhat between languid and scatty at times (in a venue a little larger than a front room, I counted at least three wrongly delivered orders).
Don't let that detract you, though, from the main reason you'll want to visit Notes - exceptionally good coffee in central London at reasonable prices in a venue that your soul won't have visited a thousand times before.
L. M.
Good quality coffee available in a very convenient location. Sugar is finely ground and on the table (so much better than sachets on the side!)
Whimsy you prefer from the counter, you get served tableside, which is a nice touch. Only downside (hence the 4-star rating) is the lack of plug sockets. Overall, great café all-round!
J. M.
The service is, on the whole, more willing than skilled-- I've had to remind them of my order more than once. That said, they're very friendly and how nice the coffee and tea is more than makes up for everything else. The food in general is very nice, the wine is good and the platters (one will serve two) are pretty reasonable.
F. i.
Oh baby!
best espresso I've ever had. not because it was on the house, but because it was bitter, sweet and dark, just how I like my men.
Service was way above average. The Scottish barista was a little cutie pie. Decor was light and frenchie.
Come here!
D. D.
Amazing place with amazing staff. I wanna say a big thank you to Martin,Pietro,Roberto, the small boy behind the bar and the lady that she make us the Veg. board!amazing and very quick service, very tasty food plus nice wine. Busy in the evenings especially after 18pm :) keep the same level guys, you are the best!
J. T.
Nice environment. Not very good coffee. First tried to make me pourover with old rancid beans. Then wanted to sell me 2 week old beans as fresh. Employees were clueless about coffee. Moving on....
H. C.
Popped into Notes for a G&T and a snack with a friend. Chose a quiet table at the back of the shop. Over the course of the 2 hours in Notes, we were asked to move our table twice to accommodate a larger party and then when I checked my bill, we had been charged for drinks we didn't have. After calling the shop for several days and failing to get an answer, emailed and money was finally refunded for drinks we hadn’t ordered.
A. B.
The coffee is amazing! The staff are too!
M. Ł.
It's challenging for a coffee chain to create a feeling and coffee taste of a small local cafe and this Notes brilliantly managed to achieve it. Very positive team vibe, excellent coffee making skills across the whole team.
Thank you for the morning shot!
C. O.
Coffee is top notch. Like most artisan coffee shops, the baristas are young and more interested in themselves rather than the customers they serve. The mocha is strange, I think they use dark chocolate buttons which makes the mocha bitter. If you want a good flat white though, by all means they can handle that.
J. G.
Nice coffees and cake. Pleasant surroundings. Fresh lilies on the table smelt lovely.
A. T.
Great independent coffee shop. Very creative with their table numbers, rather than give you a wooden spoon, you get a coffee bag with the table number. No quiet little nooks though, so not great if you want to take any calls.
S. E.
Very nice cafe in the center of London. Nice atmosphere and good dinks. Had a very refreshing prosecco and the nice lady serving us was nice to cut some strawberries for us to go with it. The crowd there is very good also. Had a great experience that will definitely repeat if I am around Trafalgar Square.
R. C.
Nice seating area and the the best coffee in the surrounding area. Always friendly service
A. T.
Mushrooms on toast, superb! Great coffee, good food any time.
X. W.
Bright and airy with happy staff and a relaxed feel, Notes is a good spot to refuel of you're on a cultural bender around the museums nearby. It can get a bit busy and loud but so does everywhere decent around here. The coffee here gets my seal of approval, as do the sandwiches. Important to note, however, that there's no Wifi, so not ideal if you want to do some work (or procrastinate).
k. H.
First visit
Amazing. A great space for coffee, wine and fantastic vibes. Love it.
Second visit.
Not so good.
I asked for my coffee to be very hot, however the Australian female member challenged my request with arrogance that there is a certain way to make coffee. She made my coffee hot and it was probably the worst coffee I've ever had.
The Barista
I have many friends who own great coffee shops and know barista's who win competitions. I think she wins the competition for the most smug 'barista' I've come across. I'm sure most of the time she's a great person with good vibes, but childish off moment with customers can impact a wonderful brand like Notes. Do the sums!!!
The positive
I shared my views with the manager, he was polite, courteous and amazing. Based on his response and this wonderful space I shall come back.
J. P.
I am not usually a coffee drinker, but what they serve is not just some regular
Starbucks brew. The guys there treat coffee like art, make it with precision and that makes it irresistible to pop in when nearby. Didn't had the chance to pop in the evening, but their selection of wines is also worth a go. Try their flat white and cheesecake!
A. V.
I loved my flat white at Notes on my first visit, so went out of my way to get there again on a subsequent visit (really good coffee is hard to find even in London), but can't say I was delighted this time.
Maybe just an inexperienced barista, but my flat white was lukewarm and rather over frothed, whilst the fig bircher that I chose for breakfast was like glue. So disappointed.
S. C.
Came here late evening one day, it wasn't too busy and staff were very nice despite us being there till closing time.
Have come here on a Sat afternoon, and it's impossible to find a seat.
Would be good if there were a few more herbal tea selections as well.
V. R.
Very pleasant staff and nice ambience but the drinks were mediocre at best. Cappuccino was weak with unremarkable coffee flavor and hot chocolate was overpriced and not tasty. Not convinced this is much better than the large chains.
N. P.
It's a really cute and promising little cafe. I was excited to have found a nice new place to hang out and work. Great design, nice mix of unexpected things like wine and dvds for sale. But it is INSANELY overpriced. £3 for a regular tea??? Really?? The staff were uninterested and acted put off when I only ordered a drink.
If they were set up as a working cafe, with outlets for charging and wifi for working, I might be able to get with higher prices because you are using the space longer. But they have neither wifi or outlets for guests.
All but one staff member presented a pretentious, can't-be-bothered attitude. I was meant to meet a friend at Notes and arrived early to work while I waited, but I felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome that I left and went to a cafe around the corner to kill the time until my friend arrived.
J. C.
This is a favourite of mine if in the area. Great coffee and food for lunch whether you are on your own or with friends. Very handy for the galleries in Trafalgar Square or a theatre. Tucked away but always busy.
D. T.
Had the Honduras hand pour V60 coffee for £3.70. Mildly bitter with earthy chocolate notes. A little mild and watery for my taste. 3.5 stars.
L. C.
The place is full of light (window on the ceiling + mirrors) and the tables are spacious. The atmosphere is a bit fancier than a regular cafe, because it is also a wine bar and it is basically in front of the National Gallery.
J. F.
OK coffee... Good hummous/beetroot/avocado combination on toast... Reasonable, but slightly vague service Reasonable social distancing by staff, but other customers lackadaisical approach was not surprising.
R. T.
Great coffee and tea. Central London prices ! This one gets very busy on weekends .
J. D.
Quaint coffee shop off Trafalgar Square. Great selection of teas, coffee, hot chocolate, wine, beer. Also a good selection of treats and food (eg salads and sandwiches). It is small so can get quite busy during peak times but worth a wait if you have the time!
M. S.
Bang on trend cafe with a laid back atmosphere. Visited several times and always enjoyed a coffee there.
Be warned though - the coffee is served warm rather than hot so if you like scalding drinks make sure you specify!
A. S.
Notes Music & Coffee is really, really good. My Flat White was absolutely wonderful, like drinking silky foam. If it wasn’t for the fact that it was 8pm (they’re open late!) I would have had another. And if I wasn’t in love with it already, the staff are dead chipper and they were playing jazz. They also sell books and CDs at the back of the shop, which is a nice touch. This would be a perfect place to stop by if you want somewhere to read your book and have a coffee without dealing with pub crowds. Can’t wait until I have a reason to go back.
S. D.
A lovely cafe near Trafalgar Square that isn't riddled with pigeons? Notes is all that and more; an extremely relaxing cafe/music store/wine shop with soothing classical music in the background, comfy seats and excellent coffee. This morning I had some of the best banana bread of my entire existence, served by genuinely happy and lovely staff. Especially good for meetings (the music's quiet enough to talk over) and weekend afternoon catch-ups.
P. B.
With a retro-industrial setting, this small cafe / (emphasis on cafe) serves Instagram ready drinks a some delicious-looking brownies (only spotted them on my way out). Good for an after-work catch up. Quite pricey.
J. D.
London has a long association with coffee houses and there have been coffee vendors in London since the end of the 17th century. London's stock market, now one of the largest in the world, began life in a coffee house.
It takes some real effort to produce a good well-rounded drink and most of London's coffee shops serve something hardly worthy of the name; an ersatz and insipid brew.
Which made my recent trip to Notes all the more pleasant.
I typically drink an americano with hot milk and Notes delivered a near perfect example. The richness of the flavour took me right back to a recent trip to Ibagué in Colombia.
Great coffee, good service a stylish interior which has the feel of a Victorian coffee house perhaps; with polished brass and bare wooden floors.
Excellent.
A. G.
Great little cafe/bar which isn't too far from the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. We visited on a Friday evening and it wasn't too busy. The service is friendly and relaxed. The wine and beer selection looked good. Downside was the bad cellphone reception and no Wi-Fi. Although they had some great snacks, the food menu doesn't currently cater to most dietary restrictions i.e gluten free.
A.
Busy place with different options that comes with a cup of coffee.
C. M.
Nicely laid out and good coffee plus a selection of pastries. My croissant was tasty. Service was okay. Would go here again as its tucked away from the touristy streets
S. R.
Great coffee, probably my favourite in all of London. Just unfortunate that the staff were visibly stressed which meant a couple were less polite to customers this time - totally understandable just unfortunate when you come here to avoid/before routine exposure to stress yourself....
J. K.
Great cafe serving fantastic coffee, light bites and wine. Worth stopping at - it's not too touristy as it's a road away from the main drag around Trafalgar Square, Charing Cross Road and Leicester Square. Highly recommended.
H.
A little gem amongst all the chain coffee places in the area. Would be 5 stars if they had more gluten-free and vegan options.
d. b.
Lovely vibe on Saturday morning for coffee. Very quite considering the location so was nice to be able to sit and chill before the rush of the day. Good coffee and friendly staff.
D. H.
Beautiful food but we've struggled with the service here 3 times now. They seem very short tempered, struggle to deal with the morning rush and made us feel we were at fault when they ran out of salmon after taking the order. This place has potential but staff need an attitude adjustment.
D. B.
Cold brew was meh (little sour, not super smooth/chocolaty), Avocado toast costs wayy to much for what you get. Pour over was decent at least. Probly wouldn't go back because value wasn't worth it...
G. B.
Today I went to Notes coffee house near Charing Cross. No question, they offer good coffee and good food in an in general nice atmosphere.
But, what I really disliked are the big screens hanging on the walls, showing some movie with subtitles. Sorry, it's a nice place playing classical (?) music, but the TV screens just don't really fit in there. At least in my opinion.
That's why I only give 4 stars.
J. D.
First i wanna say something for the guy with name Matthew T. You need to respect the job of those people over there because i am every day over there and i was next to you when everything happend and the boy didn't respond you couz you've been very rude with him and you lie about the situation. That's central London and for everything you need to pay extra if there is nothing left from the menu! I am managing a restauirant and i will not accept attitude like yours and it's always so annoying when we have customers like you because YOU had a bad day!
Now i want to thanks the team witch they made their best to serve me because was very busy and exactly the boy with the bun who was really upset with the attitude of this man and who offered me a free coffee couz the food came after 25'. The best coffee in London and i will deffinetly visit you again and again guys and don't let those people to smash you!
P. C.
One of my favourite place to work, chill and go from afternoon coffee into evening wine!
A. S.
I dragged a few friends to this seemingly fine establishment after hearing some rave reviews. Maybe the bar was set a but too high, but I felt that the coffee and the service was decent at best. The staff weren't too happy with us though - maybe because we were playing cards for over an hour and screaming our guts out.
J. J. S.
One of the best spots in London for filter coffee and they also do a great traditional cappuccino.
The staff are friendly, really know what they're doing and are happy to explain what's going on as they prepare your drink.
R. L.
Nice tea and fruit for a light bite is inspired.
A. L.
A stylish place from the pre-hipster era, with a selection of excellent teas and coffee. Great place to while away time, alone or with friends, in always busy central London. Also has license to serve wine.
M. F.
This is not a chain, the coffee was great and individual, the cakes rather yummy and the service reasonably efficient. A little more expensive than a chain, but support the indies, we need people who love coffee.
M. R.
Great place for coffee and tea. If you visit this place later on the day it is a nice wine bar where you can lounge with your kids. Friendly staff and a great place to hangout
C. G.
In the wooden, soothing atmosphere of Notes, it is ever so tempting to go beyond the usual cappuccino or flat white. On the slate board the word Piccolo triggers curiosity. To warm milk is added just a little espresso. So different from a latte (larger, more watery) or a cappuccino (different proportions, more froth). Much more character, more balanced, caramel hints. Try this with their cinnamon banana bread…
A. S.
A great spot for coffee and light bites that becomes a wine bar after about 6pm. Sadly, no wifi or sockets so not a good place to work, but perfect type of place for catching up with friends.
S. C.
Slightly overpriced tea and coffee, but it has a nice ambience and its rarely busy (likely because of the price). But it was cool to watch them distill the coffee (it looks like something out of a lab, with bottles and piping and open flames. They definitely look like they know what they're doing
T. S. L.
When in search of a top cafe in Trafalgar Square, Notes, run by the wonderful....drum roll please.... Fabio, Robert, Alan, Marion and Edward is where to head to. Previously a record shop for over 15 years, to save the place from closing down a quick change in direction was needed. The result was to mix Fabio's expert coffee making skills (thanks to his grandparents coffee farming routes in Brazil) with records and a welcome amount of wine. While the latter took around a year to convince the council that they were worthy enough for an alcohol license, the place's initial inception came in 2009 with fantastic coffee served from the get go.
To read more on Notes cafe why not visit the Twenty Something London website were there are a host of independent places all over London waiting for you to visit them!
C. W.
Friendly staff, nice shop coffee is a little overpriced!
C. K.
One of the best coffee places I know in London. It's quite pricey, but the coffee is just awesome and the atmosphere much nicer than in any of the standard coffee chains..Definitely worth a visit, if you're coffee-lover.
C. S.
This is one of the V best coffee shop in the city. The staff members are definitely helpful . It is really a nice location where you can meet up along with family or friends.
O. W.
Brilliant place to sit alone with a cup of coffee or to drink a glass of wine with one of their tasty cheese platters. Always a good vibe and the staff are attentive without being overbearing. An excellent place to head pre-theatre.
D. L.
Notes Music Coffee is a wonderful coffee place and deserves to be rated among the best coffee shops in London. Staff are friendly, the coffee is good, and there’s always something interesting (The King’s Speech, Belleville Rendez-Vous) or just downright weird (a cartoon about a man’s dog which had fallen in love with him) showing on the TV screens which can sometimes cause one to sit down for far longer than one intends to.
The only problem – and, yes, I know that it’s entirely due to its great location – is that this place sometimes seems a little too frenetic and crowded, which means that you do occasionally get asked to leave or make way if there are other people waiting for tables (or intending to order more than you plan to). It doesn’t happen often, only towards the 6.45 pm mark when the more substantial food and wine menu comes out, but it’s just something one should note if you’re there around that time.
A. S.
A bit hap hazard this morning. Breakfast was lovely but delivery slow.
V. G.
I love this place. Its one of the best coffee shops in London. The flat white is incredible. A little expensive so it's good once in a while
J. O.
Cozy decor, friendly staff and delicious coffee. Definitely one of my favourite cafes in London.
C. F.
Staff were lovely. Coffee is good and a nice atmosphere with lovely tables and flowers . Would prefer to have Wi-Fi but understand that's the theme they're going with
M. P.
I tried the Coffee Martini was simply too good. Prices slightly higher but if you are here then you must try. It's not very strong but yet intoxicating enough to give you a little punch.
M. B.
The coffee and food was very good quality (the lemon doughnut was fantastic) but extremely pricey, even for central London. Would go back but only for a treat...
D. G.
The traditional cappuccino at Notes is absolutely amazing! The decor is really nice and the waiting staff is adorable. Great place for a coffee with friends!
E. S.
Simply the best! One of the best coffee places in London. Highly recommend to seat at the small bar in front of the baristas. You'll see the masters at work.
R. A.
I love this place, fantastic coffee that is served by nice and friendly staff. The food is tasty, the atmosphere is brilliant and they have a great choice of wine!
N. K.
Good ambience with attentive staffs plus a list of good selections. However that sort of is it - okay coffee okay pastries okay avocado toast. Food came out a bit too late with too much salt...
M. T.
Some cafes are for blitzing work, smashing through wifi and using the motivational treat of good coffee to rejuvenate your stumbling brain. Others are for a book, a quiet moment with an awesome hand-made snack or chat with a friend.
I think Notes falls into the latter category -- there's no wifi, it's a bit noisy but the coffee's good and the service and environment have character. It's also just about as conveniently placed as you'll find, right by Leicester Square. Without going to Soho, I don't think you'll find anything better nearby.
K. G.
Covent Garden's best kept coffee secret. The guys at Notes really know their stuff when it comes to making coffee. They source from nice artisan type suppliers and make sure their coffee is perfect by measuring it with a combination of a little device and an ipad app. Very swish. Open later than you'd think, it's a great place to go and have a read and give coffee without milk a try!
L. C.
The place is full of light (window on the ceiling + mirrors) and the tables are spacious. The atmosphere is a bit fancier than a regular cafe, because it is also a wine bar and it is basically in front of the National Gallery.
V. R.
Very pleasant staff and nice ambience but the drinks were mediocre at best. Cappuccino was weak with unremarkable coffee flavor and hot chocolate was overpriced and not tasty. Not convinced this is much better than the large chains.
L. M.
Good quality coffee available in a very convenient location. Sugar is finely ground and on the table (so much better than sachets on the side!) …
V. B.
Lively and full of light. Prices are OK. loved the atmosphere! Perfect to work.
D. G.
The traditional cappuccino at Notes is absolutely amazing! The decor is really nice and the waiting staff is adorable. Great place for a coffee with friends!
D. N.
Nice little coffee shop in a busy location. Good decor and a full selection of food, hot drinks and wine to choose from.
F.
Good coffee, great service
p. w.
A good place to stop for a coffee and a bite to eat. Eggs well cooked.
d.
A coffee shop with nice ambience and good number of seats. We enjoyed our coffee and tea here😊 This seems to be a busy shop mostly, quite crowded with people.
M. A.
Loved the vibe and the decor! The staff was helpful and nice. The latte was really good, but wouldn't recommend getting an Americano. Would stop by here again
N. H.
A lone soldier fighting a valiant battle on three fronts. Outflanked to the south by a pret a manger, to the north by Starbucks and all around by Diego Costa's. Notes is playing the long game with good coffee, great sandwiches and a sensible cake collection. Powerful long table for the laptop cru.
L. d. M.
Lovely atmosphere and super friendly service. Coffee here is very nice - more of Italian roast style, very dark.
J. T.
Really good coffee, sometimes you go to cafes and you order a flat white and it's a but rubbish, here the coffee was really good!
W.
This place has a cozy feel with a nice selection of cakes to have with good coffee. They also have a reasonable selection of wine if that takes your fancy.
J. O.
Brilliant and beautiful cafe! The coffee is of Melbourne quality and the staff are super all round. Food is excellent. Thanks for the few hours I was there. :)
C. S.
Cosy cafe hidden from the crowds in Trafalgarsquare, but still gets busy sometimes. Great pastries scones tea and coffee. Their fresh mint tea is my favorite!
J. B.
I like to visit Notes when I come to London for work. It's typical London prices but the coffee is excellent which makes it worth visiting instead of the usual Costabucks chain places...
A. S.
Good coffee creamy (Balance)
D. P.
Tell the young chap, who's name I must remember to ask, that that was indeed a perfectly pulled espresso. You know it's right when it puts a smile on your face.
The hairy guy from Action Bikes.
C. L.
Nice food and drink. Couldn't get on to open wifi and isn't the best layout for guaranteeing a seat. All tables are either for two or 10+
D. N.
Nice little coffee shop in a busy location. Good decor and a full selection of food, hot drinks and wine to choose from.
I. S.
Fantastic coffee! Absolutely perfect roast. Delicious pastries. Good vibe, laptop friendly. Good location.
M. F.
Good coffee and a nice space. But if you need connectivity, note that there is no Wi-Fi, and no phone reception inside. A sign outside saying no Wi-Fi might be nice (unless there's one I missed)
K. K.
Lovely setting, have seating inside and out. Got solo bike parking right in front of the cafe.
I. M.
Expert latte making and good atmosphere in this long thin coffee shop. For me, staff could have been a bit friendlier.
B. M.
Nice matcha latte, the place has a good atmosphere. It’s good for a late coffee or an evening glass of wine. A good find in that area.
A. M.
One of the best cafes in london. Great coffe, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere. Would particularly recommend the "traditional cappuccino".
A. A.
Really nice coffee place and good service but a bit pricey. It's not too quite to study but it's a nice atmosphere.
F. U.
Small and excellent coffee shop in the city center of London. It is a good place for hanging around with friends or doing some work.
R. B.
Delicious coffee, amazing place and lovely staff! Highly recommended!
T. V.
So cute here and the drinks are great
M. H.
Just a great little coffee shop in central London. Much better than going to one of the chains. They do food and alcohol too, but we just had a coffee.
M. H.
Great coffee if you're looking for coffee that tastes like Melbourne coffee. Good place for catchups and staff were very friendly.
N.
Amazing coffee, place and service, but overpriced! You can find similar menu in other cafes.
R. A.
Amazing coffee and great pastries!
P. T.
Nice cafe. great for a cappuccino break, 2 minutes away from the crowd of trafalgar square. small tables for laptop / wifi at the end of the room
B. S.
Very nice food and good service with a smile will be going back soon
S. E.
This is my daily coffee shop and I'm always greeted with a smile. Very nice guys behind the bar, lovely shots, nice food, and a very pleasant shop to enjoy it all in!

M. B.
Gem of place and perfect for a coffee of glass of delicious wine. Relaxed atmosphere. Good service. Perfect for post or pre theatre stop.

The design and vibe are definitely amazing, like a perfect place for any type of event. But coffee was just ok. 🤷♂️
M. M.
Love this cafe. Great breakfast and brunch options. Really delicious food & great service.
J. R.
Nice coffee shop where you can also enjoy a glace of wine if your not in the mood for beans.
G. C.
Tried filter coffee + flat white. Very good both of them. But the long tables remind me of libraries and I wasn't amused by the atmosphere.
R. S.
Delicious brunch. Good coffee. Visited on a Sunday morning so not too busy.
A. C.
A little more hectic than the one in Kings cross but still a great place to sit and watch the world go by with decent coffee.

S. P.
Coffee is ok but they don't always have the full range they advertise i.e no V60s if they're too busy. Not great customer service either
F. P.
My favourite place for coffee. Their blends/beans are out of this world !
E. F.

V. D.
Nice little coffee place, friendly staff but a little overpriced for the quality of the coffee. Good place to read or work.
L. M.
The food here was surprisingly tasty, but the portions were extremely small for the cost. Tasty but tight.
D.
Pretty ok place to have lunch. They sell one of the best muffins I've ever eaten

Great individually brewed leaf tea, and a low-key friendly atmosphere. Somewhat of a rarity for a hipster coffee shop.

Great coffee and food for lunch whether you are on your own or with friends.
F. L.
Food was delicious ( the pancakes are a must) and had a nice vibe. Ideal location for visiting friends.
N. B.
Coffee was good and the place was cosy and we had enough space to even work a little
