Reviews of Orange Pekoe
A. D.
Went for an afternoon tea and the staff was the highlight of the afternoon. They were super kind and helpful. There was a wide selection of teas which is a strong side of the cafe.
I had the gluten free option for the afternoon tea, yet the main issue was the bread. There was nothing special with the sandwiches, while the bread tasted like store bought, the feeling was a bit basic and bland with not much to offer. I was unable to eat the cakes/scone as they were too sweet and dense, respectively.
It was an okay experience and would not come back. Mainly because you achieve a similar experience at home or buying a meal deal and a store bought cake.

The best breakfast I have ever had! The staff are wonderful, kind, helpful! I wish I could visit every other day, we just leave quite far.. Looking forward to be back and try new things on the menu! Well done staff!!!
T. P.
There are vegan dessert options, breakfast and lunch as well. One of the good cafe in Barnes. I tried oat milk Flat white, raspberry peanut ball and vegan burger were very well.
C. W.
Lovely afternoon out. The staff were amazing and the food delicious! We took part in their Afternoon Tea.
Excellent selection of tea and extraordinarily helpful in assisting us in making our choices🙂
S. L.
Very good value for money afternoon tea. Great quality tea, sandwiches were nice, the raspberry and lemon cake was lovely, othe cakes maybe a bit too heavy for me but still look nice. Excelletn service. Will come back
g.
Delicious cake and a huge range of interesting teas. I tried a Japanese tea with notes of seaweed - really good. Comfortable, well-presented, with helpful staff. Quite special.
H. A.
So delicious! The atmosphere is beautiful and the cream tea option is easily split between two people - a large pot of tea, cream, sugar, two scones, clotted cream and fresh strawberry jam. AMAZING.
C. G.
Lovely lunch and a pot of superb tea. Such a huge range of teas. Very friendly staff and excellent service
E. R.
Very nice, attentive staff and fresh, good quality food.
C. C.
A special experience. Settle into a plush armchair, amidst interesting wallpaper, and enjoy delicious food. I recommend the warm scones and smoky earl grey.
A. V.
Amazing place for coffee. We will definitely come back for afternoon tea:-)
R. S.
The takeaway afternoon tea was amazing, absolutely delicious! Thank you.
A. A.
Such friendly staff, amazing coffee and love sampling the cakes - best place for a catch up
Z. R.
Great atmosphere // Lovely staff // Delicious and pretty coffees and teas // Salads, cakes and pastries // Must try!
D. C.
Love it! Been here for coffee, snack lunch or tea many times over the last few years and it remains a great little place for all of these. The coffee is good, and they sell a variety of specialist teas both on-site and for making at home; the pastries and cakes are good too, but what makes it stand out are the staff. They are unfailingly cheerful and efficient. Can't wait for them to re-open the "tea-room" inside again, once Covid rules allow them to.
R. H.
My favorite place! Not only a community feel since it is locally owned by a woman, but the staff is incredible and I love their Iced Cherry Tea and Iced Latte!! My kids love Pekoe and ask for it especially the banana bread! Follow their Instagram!
s. k.
Gorgeous café with friendly staff and delicious hot chocolate. The orange polenta cake is so, so good. We had a Buddah bowl and that was lovely too.
M. T.
Booked this place last minute for our mother’s 60th Birthday. Couldn’t be more pleased with the friendly service and attitude of the staff who were keen to make this feel special for our mum. Want to give a special thanks to vaanya (hoping I heard the name right) for being genuinely considerate and attentive.
M. T.
Delicious afternoon tea. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit.
c. m.
Very good indeed .large selection of teas and cakes all great quality.
b. m.
Lovely place and amazing coffee .
D. G.
Impromptu stop for lunch. Warm welcome and truly delicious corn chowder soup and salad of soya beans and black rice. Prices are probably standard for Barnes.
V. F.
Orange Pekoe is reopening in 2 weeks time. It has been closed since Christmas for refurbishment and I have missed it! Love the selection of teas and coffee that make popular presents. Delightful little place to sit inside or out when weather permits. The cakes are the best - Carrot cake that is to dream off. They use real chocolate scattered on their coffee and hot chocolate is such a treat in miserable weather. Good choice of tasty lunch dishes and a fun classic afternoon tea, perfect scones and an irresistable glass of fizz to treat or share with friends. Well done to the charming, sunny staff!
R. E.
Sunday afternoon tea. Lovely old world cafe which is deceptively large. Cakes were very nice a coconut and lime was very nicely flavoured and a vegan blueberry cake. Also gluten free options. Despite many tea flavours I had English Breakfast but a little weak for my tastes, maybe go for something more exotic!
J. J.
Great place to get breakfast though they don't serve it for long enough. As soon as Lunch rolls around the pre-made food is quite poor. Especially considering how food the breakfast is. I particularly love the pancakes. The coffee here is also pretty good though not the best in Barnes or Sheen. I usually go for their Honey Latte which is weird because I never go for sweet coffees but this is particularly good.
L. I.
Good breakfast but not bowled over by it. Nice atmosphere. A tad expensive even considering the neighbourhood
J. R.
A really great cafe. Love the coffee, food and pastries. Best in Barnes.
S. M.
Stopped by for tea. Large selection to choose from. They also have a selection of alternative non diary milk. Had to have a scone (plain) which is one of the best I've had. Also had the carrot cake which was delicious. There is seated but is limited.
J. H.
A pleasant place to enjoy coffee, tea and home made cakes. There's seats inside and some tables outside.
K. M.
Beautiful place, great service and delicious food. Highly recommended for afternoon tea (which can be delivered to your home). They sell teas online which are perfect for presents.
E.
This is my second time visiting the Orange Pekoe, my sister introduced me to this place. We always have cream tea. Reasonable price for exceptional scones and the jam is delightful 😋 also the interior is lovely 💖 perfect place for a cream/afternoon tea. The lady with very short hair who served us today has great customer service too 👍
H. P.
The ‘two bridges’ walk is a Chiswick/Barnes staple, made even more attractive by having Orange Pekoe as the half-way marker! Huge variety of teas, good coffee (and decent-sized cups), and delicious cakes. The service is currently of a high order too. Indeed the only problem is getting a table... I suggest timing it so you arrive before or after peak times.
A. H.
Orange Pekoe is amazing! Their takeaway lunches and cakes have been my saviour during lockdown. Can’t wait until the tearoom opens again
J. S.
Got to tea at 2pm as per our reservation. Our order was taken at 2.36pm and at no stage were we told that the kitchen would be closing at 3pm. The children were still hungry and when we asked to order more food we were told that the kitchen was closed and no more food was available.
The sandwiches and cake were lovely. The place had a good ambience and then setting was great.
Very disappointed. We went across the road to The White Hart pub and had something else to eat there.
J. B.
A lovely stop after a walk along the river! The staff are great and I had the best ever burger - their Halloumi and Portobello Mushroom option! A wide variety of delicious teas are also available meaning you can try a new one every time you to back!
V. A.
Orange Pekoe is a gem of a find! Such a wonderfully welcoming tea room with helpful and friendly staff. The food was utterly delicious - especially the scrumptious warm banana cake served with Greek yogurt and pistachios. Highly recommend a trip to this elegant, funky relaxing place. We’ll be back to visit very soon!
D.
Currently open for takeout only. I had an americano coffee. Coffee was very smooth and strong. Very enjoyable. Social distancing protocols were good.
E. L.
My cousin and I stopped here for a light lunch during an afternoon of sight-seeing. We opted for the quiche, which came in both vegetarian and meat versions. The shop owner was friendly and helpful. This is a great place for a quick lunch or tea.
s. a.
It's an absolute delight to go into a place that does gluten free bread and cakes, not to mention the never-ending selection of awesome teas and I think I've had one of the best coffees in London in this place. It's a very cute place with nice decor and everyone's very friendly and accommodating.
M. F.
Indulging bakery that satisfies all cravings. So delicious and freshly made . The staff is highly professional and friendly, the service is prompt and punctual always and the prices are reasonable too.
K. H.
Cute little specialist tea shop tucked away in Barnes. Its like finding a treasure trove! Really love this place, great to meet an old friend for a good natter over a cup of tea and crumpets. Great service, food is fresh, good cakes and of course, excellent tea.
N. P.
Already been twice. Generous pot of tea and there are dozens to choose from. My sandwich was delicious continental cheese with veg served with a small salad. You could say the place had pretensions but I didn't care.
H. H.
First time I've visited this tea house in Barnes/Mortlake. Took a friend there as part of a celebration for her 29th bday & we both loved it. Brown bread sandwiches w crusts cut off. Lovely fresh scones & large piece of rose petal cake which had to be taken home. Large variety of teas, loved the rose petal. A tad pricey at £nearly 20. p.head.
M. H.
Really nice brunch here. Eggs Benedict cooked perfectly, nice seating outside that's ideal on a sunny Sunday morning. Friendly staff and great smelling coffee finish it off perfectly.
F. M.
Such a friendly team, amazing food, coffee and teas, including the best matcha latte in Barnes! Allergens are well catered for so you can be confident you can enjoy something delicous here. Highly recommended
L. P. N. O.
Great service and excellent food
J. C.
This is one of my favourite spots in London - great selection of teas, coffee and breakfast. It always brings a smile to my face, even when there is a huge crowd waiting for a table. You should visit it if you are wondering where to go for an afternoon tea.
C. L.
Lovely little tea shop with great range of tea and coffee (though they mixed up the coffees and served them to wrong people, but was her first day!). Breakfasts light and fresh (poached eggs w lovely smoked salmon).
S. R.
NOT recommended if you are celiac.
Otherwise, tea and food are excellent. This is a lovely place.
However, the pancakes are not gluten free. There's cross contamination.
M. F.
Good selection of sandwiches and cakes. Lovely tea and coffee. Deceptively large amount of seating towards the back. Excellent for a quick lunch or snack.
E. L.
love this place so much. It’s always a pleasure, yummy pastries, amazing tea- people are so nice and welcoming.
W. C.
Best barista outside of Mayfair, those serving all polite and efficient, the girls visually attractive and speak native English, and even when busy quality totally consistent, they don't dub down the product. No where else around.
I. S.
Beautiful tea-shop: great drinks & food & suoerb, charming service
A. S.
Orange Pekoe is a totally perfect tea shop hiding in Barnes (15 minutes from Waterloo on the train - astonishingly this picture-perfect suburb is in Zone 3). Not that you need an excuse to spend an afternoon in Barnes, but Orange Pekoe is reason alone to drop by. They also do a good line in afternoon teas and brunch snacks. I can highly recommend the crumpets (£3.60) but I did get a touch of food envy at the next table's breakfast (something eggy with salmon). I went on a fairly sunny morning so we sat outside. As gorgeous as the white trestle tables were, the inside of Orange Pekoe is really beautiful. Light, airy and feminine without being overly girly. Granted, it wouldn't be the first choice for taking a boy to lunch, but it's not all lilac and florals.
b. s.
Tea officionardos take note, refreshingly vast selection, like a petit Mariage tea shop crossed with a Victorian English village. Salads are also creatively culinary. Decor is sweet if a little crammed.
H.
We got takeaway afternoon tea which was amazing and the tea was brilliant!!! Will definitely be back post lockdown!
H. O.
Had a very nice takeaway lunch! Friendly staff! Little bit pricey though!!
J. F.
Excellent chocolate brownies and delicious coffee.
Give it a go! You will love it.
J. H.
Very enjoyable afternoon tea. Excellent scones and generous sandwich portions
M. M.
Quaint cafe, with small nooks and crannies for quiet am or pm teas and lunch. Wonderful range of delicious cakes and teas. Attentive staff. Tables inside or outside.
A. M. S.
One of our favourite cafes in the area, beautifully presented and so tasty, always a treat.
J. F.
The best coffee in Barnes, but the menu lacks any good vegan or vegetarian options.
C. v. C.
Absolutely super coffee, very good service, one of the staff is excellent in particular and pleasant atmosphere
C. F.
Nice establishment, love the loose coffee and tea they have for buying. A good experience sitting there for coffee as well, though a bit overpriced.
P. W.
Same excellent staff. High quality coffee and food. Not cheap but worth every penny.

(Translated) It is a very nice place where they prepare homemade food, in sight, very original. The coffee is very good and the staff very efficient and pleasant, the place is not big, decorated with a lot of style and good taste, a bit vintage. I'm sure you'll come back.

(Translated) I think it was 19 euros per person including the charge. From 14:00, you can enjoy a wonderful afternoon tea.
You can choose your favorite tea from so many, 4 sandwiches, 1 cake from the shop showcase, muffins plain or fruit, orange and framboise. I think you could choose from carrot cake, lemon cake, banana cake, and pound cake.
The clerk was also nice and very nice. The muffins were warmed up just before eating, and the ones I couldn't eat were wrapped up.
I also sold black tea leaves, but I regret that I should have bought them.
There were local customers who came to enjoy tea with sportswear, so it was quite casual.
Other than afternoon tea, it looks delicious.
It's a bit far from the city of London, but I think it's worth the trip.
