Reviews of Saint Espresso
M. W. t. W. P.
I’m surprised that this place isn’t more pretentious. It has all the trappings of a hipsters wet dream, glass fronted, wood, and dark tones, and yet I hardly noticed the guy in the corner pretend working on his laptop. I did however notice the American lady who felt the need to speak about her job four octaves higher than anyone else in the shop.
It was nice to be on a lunch break and still have to hear about work, even if it’s work you have nothing to do with.
The coffee is very good and the staff are friendly and accommodating.
C. H.
A superb little coffee shop offer ring seriously good coffee and strong at that too! They have some nice cakes/treats of which some are vegan. Can be nice to sit outside as there is a small bit of greenery before the major road.
A. G.
Delicious vegan treats/cake that don’t feel too heavy and sit just right!
The long black I had was superb and the guy behind the counter was perfectly friendly and polite when I couldn’t quite pronounce the name of what I ordered.
Fantastic service and will be back! Great place to get a coffee when standing in the line for Fara!
G. P.
Good coffee and pastries, with really lovely staff. Visited on a sunny day and sat outside. Even though we were next to a busy road, it felt tranquil. Recommended!
A. L.
Best espresso for espresso lovers! Smooth and creamy! Barristers are very professional know how to make a good coffee!, Good location too
V. V.
Good coffee, had a latte and a chocolate muffin. Milk was steamed perfectly, the muffin was tasty as well. And great service. Would come back
V. G. S.
Just brought the best flat white I’ve ever had, perfect froth all the way through. Great combination of coffee and milk 👌 will recommend…
V. Y.
Staff was really friendly. Was good for a chilled Sunday afternoon. The flat white tasted really nice, so did the chai. The cake was tasty but slightly dry.
The place has no wifi though. Unfortunate.
E. K.
It looks like really specialty coffee - service, coffee, stuff and place are great. It’s possible to have v60, aeropress or other alternative methods of brewing. I got v60 during day time even with big flow of visitors. Also I had very interesting conversation with barista about coffee and different methods of brewing.
K.
Possibly best coffee ever - and they do Nespresso capsules! 🥰
D. P.
Great coffee spot! Their drip coffee was fantastic and the barista was very knowledgeable about its flavor profile and origin. The Panini style breakfast sandwich with mozzarella and tomato was also really good. Fast and friendly service topped it all off! Will definitely be back!
A. D.
A cosy little hidden gem of a coffee shop. Can always get a decent iced mocha, latte or tea here.
C. L. (.
Nice and small coffeehouse next to the very busy pentonville road. Prices could be a bit less but it’s ok.
A. D.
Super helpful barista when helping me to select the best beans for a pour over "situation" :) (thanks!!). Really patient and even gave me useful pointers on how best to grind the beans for maximum taste based on my preferences.
Overall, would definitely be back for have a coffee (was a tad too late for me when i visited!)
I. S.
Charming & cosy coffee shop with excellent choice of coffees at reasonable cost. Friendly & efficient service. Will be coming back soon :)
M.
Great coffee, friendly staff and some tasty treats. Upgrade what’s in your cup today!
R. B.
Lovely, easy-going and well equipped speciality coffee shop without in-house coffee beans. Perfect fit for remote work and takeaway coffee. Coffee is wired and carefully measured with precision with the highest quality of equipment.
V. R.
Great coffee in the heart of Angel!
S. N.
Best banana bread amongst all cafes in the UK! Having it toasted gives it a note of caramel. Simple banana flavor with no additional ingredients. Sublime.
K. M.
Great coffee in a small and intimate space. Good selection of cakes on offer too.
Very friendly service.
M. A.
Delightful coffee shop, with excellent baristas, and very high quality coffee beans and consistently good drinks. Went here recently during the second lockdown whilst moving house. They were open and had everything available for takeaway (drinks, baked goods, beans), and the barista kept up a great spirit and smile to brighten our day, even during what must be a tough time for small businesses. (I highly recommend their whole beans if you're into brewing at home; they have fantastic specialty varieties and also take online orders.) Will be going here frequently when it's allowed, even though it is a 50 min journey from where I live in SE London, as I have not had reliable coffee better than this.
J.
Fantastic coffee shop in Angel. Service is very friendly and welcoming
K. G.
Serving truly tasty coffee. Interior wiring is hidden masterpiece of this cafe as well. Iy reminds me the inside wiring of Apple II.
J. L.
Excellent coffee - really good. I am fussy about such things! Lovely staff too.
S. G.
This is a typical hipster coffee shop in a great location near the farmer's market. We stopped in for a tea and coffee and to warm up from the weather. They didn't have many food options, but some pastries were available. The place was small and crowded, but the acoustics made it so we could easily hear ourselves.
J. F.
OK for a needed pause mid walk, with good coffee and iced versions of latté and mocha, on whst was one of the hottest days of the year.
Coffee was at the standard of Saint Espresso elsewhere in the area. But humidity and heat drove us away quickly, and limited outdoor (and shaded) seating meant we did not linger.
j. b.
Lovely little coffee shop. Coffee is really good as are the pastries. Really friendly service. Highly recommended.
J. a.
Nice little coffee shop. Was put off before (maybe a year ago or so) when they had some grumpy bearded man who would just bark at you instead of asking nicely what you would like to order. Recently moved back to the area and nice to see some different staff in there who are all pleasant and attentive. Good coffee and good brownies!
H. S.
Lovely coffee place with a nice vibe, a tad bit small with limited seating area. We went during the off hours and it was reasonably quiet. Have a small clean toilet that's super helpful during the cold days, and encourages multiple coffees.
M. M.
Probably one of the best small independent coffee shops in London. Serves Really great well made coffee with plenty of cakes, tarts and some rolls to accompany as well. Sadly don’t get to come here as often as I would like. Highly recommended.
C. A.
Consistently good espresso that was never overextracted and bitter, always having the notes I'm looking for.
When I travel I frequently try all of the highly rated espresso shops in the area, with at least five tried before I find something acceptable. My first espresso was lovely though, so I came back each morning for four days - all were solid.
C. H.
Saint Espresso is a stones throw away from Angel station, tucked around a road away from the main street. It's worth taking the time to find though as it's a really cute and cosy little coffee shop with a great vibe and excellent coffee. There are a few seats inside, with the smell of freshly prepared coffee filling the air. It's a strong and robust flavoured coffee that is great for a pick me up before work. They have a counter of small nibbles and bites that compliment their coffee well. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the service is pretty quick too!
J. N.
Honestly the coffee here is amazing and the food is great too. Tom our friendly neighbourhood barista is a credit to the place and always up for a chat. Best way to start the morning
M. S.
The guys in here are extremely kind and knows their stuff! They have recently started roasting their own beans for both espresso and filter and so far they are doing very well. It is definitely a place worth visiting if you want a very good cup of coffee and a nice chat about coffee.
R. S.
Delicious coffee and amazing staff. The barista remembers what I order and they prepare the coffee for me in advance when they see me waiting in the queue. So nice!
Y. b. D. (. L.
Yep had a great experience with the forever smiling Barista. Coffee was really well made, great flavours with no sign of perforated foam. Vibe is very relaxed. Food was surprisingly great as well - overall very happy and will continue to visit... No WiFi bit they are so nice you don't mind sitting and observing with a smile...
B. M.
I used to come here pre-lockdown and was so happy to see them open at the end of April. The new lockdown barista, Tom, is the best! Really friendly and great chat to start off the day. Also helps that, with loads of options, the coffee here is the best in the neighbourhood.
R. K.
This is me and my partner’s fav, go-to cafe in the neighborhood. An all-around solid oat latte and oat matcha latte on any day/time and cute cozy atmosphere (I’m partial to the exposed brick interior). The baristas are lovely and some remember us and our orders ☺️. There’s one particular barista that makes the best drinks, but they’re all good-to-great on average: we’ve only had a few rare “misses” in terms of drink quality/consistency. If you’ve happened to have had a “miss”, I’d recommend giving it another chance!
It can get quite warm and stuffy inside the cafe, and on some rare occasions, I’ve noticed some funky smells drifting in from somewhere (it’s a city after all)... but there’s usually seating available outside or you can always take your drinks to go 🙂
E. Y.
Frankly, one of the best cafes we found in our trip to London this winter. The coffee is really good and very well served, with these shapes on the top of the cream. Cakes are good too, the chocolate brownie is hilarious. Staff is friendly and decoration accurate, we loved the light bulbs. A must if you're in Angel!
T. M.
Nero, Costa, Starbucks. Their coffees are often too hot, too watery and staff just don't seem to care too much about what they're doing or serving.
Oh how different things are at Saint Espresso. With the finest flat white I've had this side of London, not only are their light bites of pastries, sandwiches and naughty sweet things delicious and well-priced but the staff are friendly, chatty and know exactly how to operate that La Marzocco.
With a few seats inside and during those rare hot days, a couple of chairs outside, it's perfect for that quick stop in the morning or brief lunch meet with the boss. Couldn't recommend this place more.
They also sell a bunch of coffee and tea related gadgets and products..
F. A.
I don't know am I the only one but, they have a consistency problem big time. They have a rotation policy (I guess) and the baristas are different every day. Sometimes coffee is great, silky, rich, delicate and smooth and sometimes burnt and watery. I drink their coffee every single day and, I rather check who is the barista before I go in. Five stars for their perfect coffee and 1 star for the others.
y. y.
I've ordered a hot chocolate that wasn't hot at all and had to send it back.
When asking about the menu (the Clarence poached eggs) the people working there couldn't describe it... We eventually found out it was eggs on toast... It was some fancy name for no reason.
The prices are ridiculous!!!! For a hot chocolate made with almond milk and the eggs on toast with 2 slices of mushrooms I paid £16!!!!! A normal full English breakfast is a third of it and you're actually full. You literally pay for the location and the cute place, that's all! Also, advice for the place: sugar shouldn't be left in a pot where everyone can dip their own spoon in it... It's not hygienic and actually illegal in the rest of Europe...I know the Brexit is here but maybe there's something you should learn from more civilised countries.
R. M.
I enjoy this little coffee shop, but it tends to be completely packed just after lunch when all the nearby office workers are all extending their meeting rooms to this little place. One tends to overhear quite a bit of office gossip, so that's always an interesting side effect.
K. S.
Wow. The best coffee I've had in a long while. Oh and it has an awesome vibe.
S. “. H.
The flat white made from Alchemy beans was impressive. They had a lot of cakes and sweets on display and it's also a place where you can get the ever popular matcha latte. I loved the idea of the lemon and thyme icing on the cake but there wasn't enough thyme and sadly it wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it would be as the sponge was dry. I noticed that they were pre-sliced on the counter so they might have just got a little stale as the day went on... It is a really nice little coffee shop although there's little seating space.
J. E.
Really good quality coffee, really handy location. Staff are super nice, despite apparently having a really pretty rough time here being expected to close if mid-afternoons are quiet and then re-open to save the wage bill. It's a nice place, but I'm hesitant to come here and encourage that sort of management.
A. B.
A short stroll away from Angel underground lies this excellent cafe. The staff here really know how to craft their caffeinated beverages with attention to detail. However due to the quality of the coffee, it attracts a crowd and often you'd need to take away as drinking in isn't necessarily an option.
L. T.
Good quality natural process beans from Brazil. I was disappointed there was no choice of bean, but I wouldn't have managed to select a superior bean anyway. I would go here again for quality coffee, but I would appreciate more information on the beans and a choice.
R. P.
Lovely, old-style café, in a desert of trendy, coffee shops. The sort of place I used to go with my grandma, when I was a kid. Simple food, nicely cooked. Very pleasant service and ambience, inexpensive too.
V. R.
Great coffee and absolutely delicious food! I can't get enough from the dark bread sandwiches with cheese, bacon and this special sauce(?) as well as your cakes! Good to live in the neighbourhood.
V. M.
Got a free Oatly! yogurt with my coffee & croissant today. Very pleased with my £5 breakfast and the service.
R. W.
Never had a bad coffee here! It’s a nice place to sit in and have a drink and the staff are friendly.
G. G.
It is an ok espresso, nothing special. These places where they propose the rare, extravagantly sourced or specially roasted beans, try to perfect temps or blends or pressure, tend to completely miss the culture of espresso, which is based on consistency. Also tend to be a lot more expensive
A. A.
Great coffee, nice flavor and strong.
A. S. I.
Not enough fresh food (semi-stale almond croissant) and kind of a boring vibe.
U. K.
Flat white and chocolate brownie!! They know what they're doing.. Nothing negative can be said for coffee and sweets there but a little bit improvement and better cleaning in toilets would be nice for this location.
A. R.
Some of the best coffee in the area, as well as delicious cakes (particularly the salted caramel chocolate brownie) and friendly staff. Good music too - highly recommended
G. H.
My favourite coffee shop in London. Amazing beans done right by experienced (and nice!) baristas. Never had a less than fantastic cup there. I love their changing brews and the natural light that floods the place. And that Brie sandwich!!! Lord. I wanna go there right now.
S. G.
The place is nice with a minimalist style and relaxing atmosphere. Coffee is just great. Right temperature, fruity taste, good texture, I really like it. Prices and service ok, a bit untidy that day though. Coffee lover or not you gotta try it
A. S.
You'd think there'd be a lot of coffee shops around here but no. Good place with large window and outside seating in summer. Coffee is good and good range of snacks and cakes too.
K. F.
Almond latte and vegan brownie 10/10 service 10/10
D. J.
Tasty coffees. A little over priced and service can be a little 'too cool to care'. There's a chap that works there who looks like Benedict Cumberbatch with a beard though. He's cool
m.
Really tasty Cappuccino for a reasonable price of £3.3 and friendly staff. I will definitely come back.
A. E. G. V.
The ham and cheese croissant was lovely and the flat white was on point. Great for a rainy morning, very quiet for 10am :)
J. H.
Really enjoyed the filter coffee, and the flat white's milk was steamed to perfection. Calm atmosphere and good service.
C. C.

M. P.
Wonderful coffee and very tasty sandwiches. Not that large so may get very full. Definitely worth a visit.
S. H.
I'm very picky with coffee and usually go for soya milk (which they didn't have) but I tried a freddo cappuccino with almond milk and LOVED it! Made my day
E.
Wonderful ambiance, sandwich and chai latte!
M. S. W.
Great coffee in a fantastic location served in a relaxing atmosphere. The food was also good
P. M.

D. L.
Great coffee & friendly barista (Tom), who looks just like Tom Misch (he could well be).
O. R.
Great coffee, great staff and great place. Right 2 min away from Angel tube station yet it doesnt feel overcrowded!
N. A.
One of the very few good coffee places in Angel, don't understand the grumpy attitude of the staff - it seem to be universal amongst independent coffee places !
P. M.
They've been cashless before but they've recently been robbed so only accept cash for now. But it's a lovely small place, worth going to ATM
G. B.
Always decent coffee with great ambiance if you like the hip coffee places.
