Reviews of Tea House Theatre
J. P.
Wonderful café with a very good selection of cakes and teas. Very beautiful atmosphere, lovely staff and good prices. Unfortunately, they don’t have coffee but that is alright.
j. k.
What an amazing little spot! Great relaxed vibe inside. Popped in for breakfast and the food was excellent. I am a coffee fanatic and I still loved it (they do not do coffee) which says it all really. Really interesting range of evening events - we will try to return for one in the near future!
C. M.
Charming little tea house, with unsurprisingly wonderful teas and cakes. All-day breakfast options also delicious and plentiful. Would give it a five-star review but it is a little too cramped and lacking space, so couldn't really relax inside. Will be back for entertainment.
P. N.
Great selection of teas, breakfast menu doesn’t finish till 6pm, friendly staff, a delightfully eccentric indoors, relaxing outdoor seating area and very accommodating for people wanting to substitute haggis into their meal! Just need to incorporate soda bread into your Ulster fry and it’s perfection! Don’t even try and ask for coffee!
V. I.
Great atmosphere, delicious cakes and teas.
The place has plenty of character and they do lots of things like poetry, singing, theatre, etc. All in the small stage.
Last time I was there it was Sunday afternoon and it was packed with children, which made the experience less enjoyable.
K. B.
A wonderful place to visit if just for the varieties of teas on offer. Very good meals as well along with it being a small scale venue for the performaning arts. Strategically placed on the site where the old Vauxhall pleasure gardens used to be. Steeped in history and tradition.

Had a wonderful experience here! The blue lady tea was divine. The cake was not the best, but the friendly staff and warm, cozy atmosphere more than made up for it. It's the kind of place to spend a lazy day - sit back on a cushy armchair while slowly sipping tea and, the best part, petting the adorably sleepy cafe cat!! I wouldn't come here for fast service and a quick bite, but it's absolutely perfect for lounging, playing a board game, and chill vibes.
H. S.
Nice place, has a certain charm. Come with friends if they enjoy a chill afternoon/evening. I didn’t get a chance to try any of the cakes although they looked very appetizing. I tried the Green tea which was nice but overpriced for my taste.
Will try to go back and try the rest of the menu and update the review when possible

Amazing little cafe in Vauxhall Gardens park. Authentic food and amazing tea selection ranging from classic English breakfast to Darjeeling to oriental Oolong. All that with a lovely theatre-like ambiance.
C. H.
Very dog friendly. Had great food . Would have liked to be told that the restaurant was having a a debate. ( VERY DIFFICULT TO TALK ) The food and attentive staff saved the day and earned you five stars.
A. G.
Great tea selection, good cake selection. And there's a cat! Homey vibe, nice staff. Good place to bring a book and chill. Not a place you'd really come for food and fast service, but if you just want a cute time, look no further.
H. S.
Absolutely loved it here! Great staff, beautiful food and so unique! We were there for lunch only so didn't see a theatre production but we will definitely be going back a lot!!
D. I.
Quirky tea house near Vauxhall bridge, a few minutes walk from tube. Great selection of teas and light meals, interesting cultural events that I should try next time. Something for every age. Owner must be a genius (and his cat, too).
A. A.
I like this place. The waiters are friendly and the atmosphere is inviting,. They also have unusual games like Carrom. However, with the ‘small’ tea costing £7.70, it is very difficult to justify having it there.
In addition, in my last visit it took about half an hour for anyone to take my order. The waitress was lovely and bubbly and gave me suggestions. However, the order never arrived, and another waitress eventually found me. This also took a while to arrive. My Darjeeling tea was bitter, and I was wondering why I would pay extra for it. Never did I imagine that it was going to cost that much…
B. C.
A wonderful find in Vauxhall. A quirky tea house with a superb selection of teas and cakes. Have made four visits and never been disappointed by the food. Find a cosy corner to chat (there maybe a bell on the table for service if you’re hidden away) or plop yourself down on the wooden chairs. The staff are as warm and colourful as the place. This is the ideal place to write an article from or relax with friends. (Not been to any of the performances, but check the website to see if there is an interesting one before you go).
D. S.
The atmosphere here is fantastic. I went to The Tea House Theatre for a late lunch and the staff was so nice. They have a house cat and welcome other animals as well. I got a pot of spiced chai and it was the perfect combo with a slice of cake. I couldn't have been happier with this unique find!
Q. B.
First it opened later on Sunday, around 10am despite written 9:30, I expected English breakfast to be on time as is English cliché of time. Jokes apart, meal was good and plate quite big. Tea pot was very good, despite waitress couldn't offer us a lot of explanation about the tea we ask. Too bad for a tea House but the tea was actually very good. The atmosphere of the place is really comfy and cosy. Quite a lovely spot for tea.
M. T.
The place is really nice and the decoration is lovely. The staff is very helpful. We got served from Allegra. Regarding the food I am ambivalent. The full English breakfast was amazing - big portion , tasteful , good value for money but .. the eggs Benedict was a disappointing choice. I wouldn't recommend them. The taste was not good.
I am definitely going back for the English breakfast though!
L. H.
This place embodies the feeling of 'home from home'. It is comfortable, the staff are welcoming, it has lit fireplaces and a cat that walks around, games you can play - so cosy!
We stumbled across this place on a walk through London. It has an AMAZING selection of loose leaf teas and beautifully presented cakes.
NOTE: READ THE MENU. We didn't and I ended up getting served mint tea with green tea mixed in (didn't know there were two types of mint tea, one being peppermint, the other being 'gunpowder' i.e. mint + green tea). Highly caffeinated drink is not ideal at 10 pm.
Also they serve tea by the pot - one would be ample for two people!
O. B.
Super friendly staff/owner, very dog welcoming and beautifully decorated.
The portion of red velvet cake was very generous and the taste.. just incredible! Best cake in London!
S. M. Z.
Kitchen is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays apparently, so only tea and came...I got there a few minutes before my friend and thought I could sit down and connect to the WiFi while I waited. The waitress refused to give me the password until I'd ordered, which I found unnecessarily rude. She spent a lot of time sharing stories with the other waitress at the top of her voice, and later chased us off the premises when we were having lunch - the kitchen was closed that day and another waitress had said it wouldn't be a problem to pick up lunch elsewhere and have it on the tables outside. 🤷🏾♀️ I ordered scones while here but they did not come with cream as advertised on the menu.
v. T.
A cute little tea house just 5 minutes from Vauxhall station, huge variety of tea selections. And they do afternoon tea as well . Definitely a good place to go if you want to have a little chill and feel like you are out of London.
P. J.
Wonderful place. There's plenty of veggie options on the menu, it's a cosy spot, and the staff are lovely.
A. T.
Gorgeous, I want to try every tea they have. It's lovely that they give a voice to the local community and their afternoon tea was tasty for a decent price. The atmosphere was perfect.
A. B.
Great little place, delicious cakes, and serves beer too. Nice seating inside and outside. On Wednesday they sometimes have good debate events on too.
N. G.
This is a very cute and cosy place. I loved it. The one less 🌟 is because the only vegan options were what you can see pictured: avocado toast, tomato soup, fruits with jam, and thankfully there was plant-based milk for the tea. I must say I enjoyed the food, the soup was excellent and the jams were delicious. The staff was very nice and making my experience enjoyable by making efforts with the food. :) The avo toast needs improvement though, less dry bread, in my opinion. Also, would be nice to see more vegan options and cakes in the future. I will be coming back to this place. ♥️
E. W.
Cute place that was very accommodating of our request for takeaway afternoon tea at 1130 in the morning. Nothing fancy but delicious food particularly the scones.
P. W.
This tea place seems officially tea mad, as am I. I was greatly impressed by this place. Not only do they have the greatest selection of fine teas I've seen in a long time, but the actual place has a very calming ambience and an attractive vintage look. They play classic FM, which I approve of and adds to the calming atmosphere. Plus there are cats. Whilst the white toast they served me could have been a greater quality (not that cheap sliced white stuff you see in the bread aisle in the supermarkets), I have decided to ignore that factor as everything else was great. I'd definitely recommend to any tea afficionado out there. It's also open until 10 o clock, which is unusually but pleasantly surprising.
J. C.
Very unusual Tea shop. No coffee here. Menu looked like read was very expensive but when ordering realised prices are per pot not cup! Impressive range of teas and cakes, with snake food available. Interesting place that doubles as a theatre.
A. B. (.
Love this hidden gem, You will find it in Vauxhall pleasure gardens, The service is 5*, The food is always good, And the tea menu is immense, They don’t serve coffee but with all that tea who needs it…. 😘
N. N.
Very nice waiters. The cakes weren't so great, and the tea was ok, but we really enjoyed the service and overall experience
S. T.
Amazing range of teas (don't ask for coffee) and cakes. Enjoyed our brunch
L.
Excellent tea house with a comfy indoor atmosphere and wonderful tea, I personally really recommend their honey as well, which might only be available a few times each spring and summer but is really divine.
S. V.
Lovely place, great food and superb customer service and experience. Giles, you are the best!
S. W.
Friendly staff, great Sunday lunch and an amazing selection of cakes
P. O.
Best place to visit in London. Been there 2 times in our 10 days vacation. So nice place, so lovely people. Would recomend to anyone passing by or staying in London.
D. -.
Absolutely amazing!!!!!! I met this tall, handsome waiter named Josh and he treated me like a queen. I really want to get his Instagram, if anyone sees him please let me know!!! 😍😍😍
R. P.
Cosy place with nice ambience and two resident cats. Very good to enjoy a slow lunch or pot of tea as noone is rushing you to get the table empty. The english breakfast is indeed as advertised, the best in London, with the most amazing sausages i’ve had so far. Tea pots are very generous in size and the six pound one will give around 5-6 cups, great value considering the high quality tea.
c. w.
Very nice and pretty interview place and friendly staffs. It's very cosy.
You can feel.and enjoy the English countryside tea house in central London.
The cakes are very bolumey
K. A.
Lovely, local, intimate, friendly and amazing cakes!
Peaceful seating area outside, right by Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens.
Lots of events for the locals to enjoy, from poetry to debating evenings. Lots of board games to encourage to stay and enjoy the calm ambience.
A rare find. amazing old London tea house!
J. B.
Love this place. Great selection of teas and cakes Love the fact the place is furnished with secondhand, eclectic furnishings
A. J.
Incredible place! Loads of ambience and delicious teas and pastries
j. C.
Visited today for tea and cake and it was delicious!!
The staff were very friendly and the place has a wonderful atmosphere.
R. V.
Cozy place. Love their Tea House blend tea. Food is delicious. but the service is horrible. Would give it 5 stars but dinging one because of the slow service. If you are not in a hurry, this is the place for you.
K. 8.
The words of my companion; "They have every British meal I could ever want. When my family die it won't be a problem"
J. B.
Lovely little theatre with a great atmosphere. Service slightly slow at the bar, but actually added to the quaintness of the overall evening.
The cakes tasted divine, and the portions large.
Helps that we saw an amazing show too :)
S. K.
Lovely... friendly....lots of cake options!! Good grub... love the tea cosies and T cloths!!
P. R.
A gorgeous breakfast, a tried some lovely Chinese tea and the service was good too.
S. S.
Fantastic quirky cafe tucked away in Vauxhall gardens. Has a front room feel with lots of board games, books and Sunday newspapers that you can use or read free of charge. The cakes are fantastic and you get a huge portion - two people could easily share a small pot of tea (circa £5) and a slice of cake (£5). A great spot to spend a relaxed Sunday afternoon.
D. H.
It's exactly as the name describes: a tea house in a theatre. This place is truly magic. They have cats and lots of events.
N. C.
Cosy atmosphere. Delicious tea and cakes. The staff with lovely
J. S.
Love coming here for a weekend treat! The cakes are great and I don't usually have a sweet tooth. Especially the red velvet and the marble cake - am yet to try their famous brownies. Service is also always very friendly. It's quirky and not your usual place so don't be surprised if you don't find your favourite drink on the menu but there are still plenty of options to explore.
P. B.
Categorically, THE. BEST. BREAKFAST..... EVER! Amazing service, beautiful venue and friendly staff. Left for a short interlude before returning for a a wedge (and I mean WEDGE 😋) of cake and another pot of tea. Will be back! Thank you 😊
T. E.
Found this wonderful place by accident one weekend and so pleased I did. This is a perfect tea house that offers the largest range of teas I have ever seen on a menu. Not only that but the food is first rate and the service is relaxed and friendly.
The decor is nice old fashioned tea room and there are board games to play while you are there. As if all this wasn't enough, the tea house is also a theatre and offers many different types of entertainment including debates on topics of the day.
I cannot say a bad word about the Tea House Theatre. I have been there for brunch and dinner, with friends and alone with my Kindle and every time I have enjoyed it.
L. B.
A slice of cake as big as my daughters face😄 can't believe she ate it. Fabulous selection of teas. Love it here, second visit and will be back next time we're in town! One day we may even make a performance, I'm hopeful.
R. B.
A charming place to visit, warm and friendly. Great range of tea and cakes to enjoy with family, friends or colleagues.
L. E.
I had a wonderful day here - delicious teas, great breakfast and fantastic cake (massive slices as well). My friend and I sat and read our books for several hours, enjoying the comfortable chairs and pleasant atmosphere. Will definitely be visiting again!
M. p.
We stopped by this place when we visited London as tourists almost 2 years ago. So glad we went! It was the perfect place to cool down and to feel London life! The teas and the food are so good. There are activities also on the evening, but we didn't try any since our hotel was far from the place. Long shory short, if I go back to london, I will surely go back and try other surprises the tea house theater has to offer!!
E. G.
Love this place! We come here for tea and a cake! But today we tried a breakfast and omg the portions are huuge and so tasty! Loads of choices of tea, afternoon tea and cakes! Huge slices! Perfect for sharing! Def must go! Hidden little gem hidden away near the park
g. n.
Good place, if you like tea! Excellent selection of tea and decent knowledge on the product from the waiter. Service was slow (understaffed for a weekend) but friendly. The selection of cakes were fantastic. Would recommend for a different type of place in vauxhall.
N.
It's so good, I almost dont want to tell you how good this place is! Loads of outdoor seating for a sunny day in this dreadful era you get some amazing teas to choose from in brown Betty teapots, incredible cakes , good honest food and you can buy honey from the rooftop hives - which tastes so floral
Л. В.
Very nice wine and dinner evening here.
J. G. (.
Fabulous full english breakfast. A little on the pricey side versus many other local options for this time of day, but it's well worth it, as the food is good and the atmosphere delightful. Love the random assortment of mismatched crockery. Also love the fact they do not serve any coffee whatsoever!
Just two small gripes... the tea itself is a tad expensive, regardless of which variety you choose. And during our visit, whilst it was exceptionally busy, service was way too slow. The poor two front of house staff coped as well as they could in the circumstances, but an extra hand wouldn't go amiss so that we don't have to deal with small issues like the missing pot of tea and having to ask for the bill four times before it arrived. Thankfully, on this lazy Sunday with friends, they really didn't matter.
C.
Lovely spot, lovely staff, delicious tea and cake😋
Y. M.
This is a great place to have afternoon tea. Situated in a small ex pub, to me it has the quaint feel of Rene's bistro in 'Alo Alo'! The service and food was excellent. Hot scones with clotted cream and jam, for my friend, I, a decent sized cheese platter. With a delicious selection of cheeses. There was also fish and chips on offer, along with sandwiches etc. Of course it is called The Tea House, and as such, there is an abundance of different teas to choose from the tea menu. All of which are served in old fashioned teapots with their own little woolen tea cosies. It felt like being in grannies house! It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon here, sitting by the fireplace in the large comfy leather armchairs!
D.
A unique venue that offers up a quirky atmosphere abs great selection of food. Service could be improved but worth a visit!
A.
Very cute place. Cozy. Delicious teas and food. Live music in the evening.
B. H.
Absolutely brilliant, the menu is first class, it's a menu that will please everyone, the service was a pleasure, the presentation of the food was excellent, I can't wait to go back
T. P.
A really unexpected gem.
Quirky, lovely service and LOTS of tea.
T. R.
Lovely staff! Great vibes and fantastic tea/cakes & food..
C. H.
This place has such a cosy homey atmosphere. There is a wide selection of teas and freshly baked cakes every day.
P. C.
Yes very lovly breakfast and there was a children's sing along there as well very sweet..
S. L.
Food was fantastic, service was average and some of the iced tea was not good at all. Probably would go again in the future but would be more careful about what I ordered. Bread for sandwiches was crumbly to the point of feeling stale but the bagels and salads were incredible
J. W.
Quirky decor/atmosphere but very pricey for what it is. Had a chicken and bacon club sandwich which was pretty dry. Chips were fine. Overall nothing special for the price, would probably have more value for those going for the extensive tea selection. Service was quite languid.
G. S.
This place is a real treat. Wide selection of teas, wonderful cakes and food, and the staff is always attentive and nice. If you get lucky you can also be visited by one of their cats. I have been here many times and always enjoyed it enormously. The evening events are recommended, too!
O. P.
Quirky little place, serving classic British dishes and cakes. Nostalgic setting with cute little teapots, board games and comfy furniture. Option of in or outdoor seating (overlooking the park). Absolutely love this place!! Great work to the owner! Highly Highly recommend!!!!!
S. S.
On the last evening of our trip to the UK, the concierge at our hotel recommended that we come here. It was absolutely worth it! Everything here is lovely. From the food to the tea selection (I had the blue lady - best tea ever!) to Gladstone the cat who napped on the chair beside us to Liam, our server (such a sweetie!) The perfect end to our trip!
H. L.
The service was pretty chaotic. We had to hunt for our own sugar, milk and enough cutlery and glasses for the whole table. The tea itself and the cakes were very tasty. However all the pro-brexit, leave posters make it pretty uncomfortable. (Wonder if it's related to the 'illegal' tea they have on the menu which doesn't meet EU regulations?) Also no cold water in the bathrooms, and the hot taps burn your skin off!
A.
First time here with some friends who are rapidly becoming regulars on Sunday, and it was an absolute delight. Food is delicious, especially the cakes, and portions are very generous. Wonderful selection of different teas - being adventurous with your choices is very definitely rewarded! Management are very friendly and great to chat to. The atmosphere is relaxed but feels slightly opulent. Such a lovely place to spend a few hours sipping tea and putting the world to rights on a Sunday - thank you for a lovely visit :)
R. E. W.
Quirky and interesting interior, and I loved the little cat running around, but disappointing food, prices, and tea knowledge.
For a tea house with such an extensive tea menu, I expected more understanding of tea... But the server couldn't make a recommendation and didn't know how long to let the tea steep for. It seems that whichever tea you choose, it is put in a large teapot and left to stew and go bitter...
I had the vegetarian breakfast which was just fine, but expensive at £12.
F. C.
Good tea, though very expensive. The red velvet cake snd the brownie were delicious. Expensive but one slice is enough for two people. My scones were a bit dry.
P. H.
Cute, quirky cafe. Had a late lunch of eggs Benedict and eggs/avocado on toast, followed by chocolate-peanut marble cake. All were delicious. Weather was kind enough to enjoy sitting outside. Nice to see people playing Scrabble and generally enjoying themselves here. Really liked the place. Will come back, and also explore the theatre aspect at some point soon.
B. T.
Great little place just behind Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, with plenty of outdoor seating and really interesting interior. First time I think I’ve ever had a knitted teapot cosy, when ordering tea at a cafe and it came with a cute little silver strainer. We had sandwiches, smoked salmon bagel, salads and chips and it was all delicious. Highly recommended.
A. G.
Fresh tea, cute atmosphere and quaint enough for your work from home office, solo adventure or date night. No coffee so tea heads only :D
R. H.
Boutique tea rooms on the edge of Vauxhall Gardens. Used to be a bit of dodgy pub but has been gentrified in a pleasant way. Huge range of speciality teas and cakes. Decent breakfast but on the pricey side; service when we were there a bit slow and missing items from plates. Undergoing building works which doesn't affect interior and looks like it will improve kitchen performance. Will definitely return to try again.
A. B.
We LOVED our tea time here! Super cozy atmosphere and the food was delicious! We also liked the location of the place. Not too crowded which we really appreciated. We will be back next time we visit!
M. S.
We visited for the jazz concert, it was lovely, did was nice and the atmosphere was really heartwarming. We certainly will be coming back!
F. D.
Great venue. The owner is usually there and always very friendly. Traditional tea shop with a wide selection of teas and cakes. Excellent location in the Vauxhall pleasure gardens. They also serve breakfast which is very filling but a little on the stodgy side. And there is a cat.
Board games and newspapers are provided. It's a good place to work out of the office if you bring a laptop. Finally, they often have evening events which cater to a wide variety of tastes - clothing sales, movie viewings, poetry readings, and others.
B. H.
It was a great place to visit for tea but strange that those customers who would like coffee can't have any. The house plain tea was super and I liked the knitted tea cosy. The carrot cake looked divine but was far too rich and sugary for my taste. The taste lacked something, not so gritty or moist as I am used to and the proportion was far too much for one person. So both my friend and I left some.
It's in a lovely setting and has great ambiance but this was marred by the wailing of tots and by loud funeral music.
C. H.
One of the hidden delights of Vauxhall, this Tea House is a must try! The atmosphere is calm and pleasant, and the selection of teas are divine. They have the best and fresh baked cakes around!
You can pop in for lunch or an evening meal with family or friends, they have seats for both, and you will be guaranteed a great experience. Classical music plays in the background, with cakes on tables adorn the place. The decor is classic and welcoming.
The menu offers some truly great meals. I would personally recommend their club sandwiches for a fulfilling lunch and their Eggs Benedict is to die for! A worthwhile dining experience!
L. M.
Just WOW!! By far the best full English I have ever had in London at a fantastic price as well. The decor is original and holds great character. The restaurant doubles up as a theatre in the evening which is apparent due to the stage and costumes inside. There are also a couple of cats that pot about inside that if your a cat person are a extra treat as they are really friendly. And lastly the tea selection is their speciality with huge array of different varieties of teas that is hard just to choose one.
C. M.
For tea lovers!
Easy going true tea spot.
Only come here if you have time...
Haven’t had the food yet but I will definitely be back to experience it along with a show.
My new office away from home.
Great selection. Explanations. Scones.
They welcome families and have cats.
The history of the building is wonderful.
I went on a sunny day and sat outside.
M. B.
Went for a brunch before travelling home, and the atmosphere was very nice and very friendly. I had a full English breakfast and the food was very nice. I don't drink tea, so cant comment on that side if it. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
R. T.
Visited the Tea House Theatre two days ago with my mum. I had a meeting to attend at a nearby location and it was raining horrendously that day; so we decided to pop into the nearest cafe in the neighbourhood and order some tea. After I finished my tea I had to leave for my meeting. I asked one of the staff members if my mum could stay there while I head off to my meeting. They were gracious and let my mum stay.
My meeting went on for more than an hour. When I returned to the tea house, I could see that the place was nearly packed with people coming for lunch. My mum told me how nice they were to her and not once did they ask her to leave despite the busy environment. We ordered hot lunch before heading out.
My mum and I were deeply touched by their warm and affectionate hospitality, and would recommend this place for their service.
W. L.
The Tea House Theatre is great with children, has a pile of toys for them and the staff give children crayons and paper to draw. The children's chicken nuggets and chips were great, freshly made with proper cut chips. The kedgeree was awful and it's hard to mess up kedgeree. The service is terrible too with lost looking waiting staff dithering around and not serving people. The breakfasts and tea are wonderful and it's a lovely space but don't go if you're in a hurry.
M. D.
Nice little cosy neighbourhood tea house. Vast selection of teas. Their cakes are good too. They have a resident cat Maggie who adds so much personality to the venue. They also have toys etc to entertain kids which is great. A local favorite.
c.
I just love this place so much. There's such a special atmosphere! Wonderful cakes and close to perfect tea menu. Lovely cats, classical music on the radio, friendly staff, I wish I had the time to come more often!
a. m.
Great venue, and deco, lovely food ,quintessential English, great for lunch or tea, yummy cakes
A. J.
I loved this place. It's so nice and it has such a cool atmoshpere, surrounded with a park which makes it even better. I had a scone that was fresh and delicious and a pot of black tea that lasted for 3 cups. The only negative thing was that the staff were a bit lazy, and after we ate, the plates were not cleared until we left.
J.
The Tea House Theater is a pretty lovely community place. The service isn't the fastest most efficient about, but it's worth the wait to feel like you're part of something (not a feeling you get very often in London). They have a well thought out range of loose leaf teas, a large selection of homemade cakes dotted about the tea room and a reliable menu of brunch, lunch and warming bites. Check out their event schedule for live music, dancing classes and the like.
A. F. S.
Great atmosphere and a wide range of teas that you normally don't have in the usual chain cafes. I was served quickly and well.
They also have cats around the place that make you feel more at home.
Definitely recommend if you want to spend some time doing something a little bit different than normal.
M. J.
Amazing choice in teas! Lovely friendly staff too. A bit of time travelling if you sit inside.
E. P.
This place is unique! Staff is very nice and owner would personally greet you and wave you goodbye. The choice of teas is big as it is for food and events happening throughout the month. Customs are at very easy when coming here, you can tell it's a place you'd come in for every occasion, just to chill, work or visit as a tourist. Plus it's located in a park.. recommended for a visit!!!

Incredible venue! Very relaxed mood and great service. The breakfast and brunch choices are brilliant and cooked perfectly. The team menu is of course like a book. So many choices and you will even get a glossary with tea-related terms and explanations for the historic origin of most teas on the menu. The cakes are to die for.
In the evening, this become as diverse venue for all sorts of cultural events, from poetry readings to jam sessions with brilliant musicians, with debate nights in the middle. The feeling of watching a jam session and the suddenly seeing the very average guy sitting on the table next to you get up, go to the stage, perform one of the most brilliant saxophone solos you have ever seen, then get back to is seat and carry on sipping his drink as nothing happened...it is priceless

Friendly staff, nice tea and cakes
P. C.
They have every kind of tea and offer traditional breakfast platter throughout the day. It's pet friendly and they bring out the food really quick. On a sunny day, the views are amazing and you never know what you come across. I definitely recommend the place to anyone looking to try something new.

EDIT 10/5/19: service has really improved! Highly recommend this tea house.
Excellent ambience, Tea House Blend, and scones, but really really really slow service. We cancelled part of our order after it took over an hour to be made. That said, they have a kitty you can pet ☺

The Tea House Theatre is a fanatic light, bright old converted pub - a great choice brunch or tea and cake. I went there for the first time for a lazy bank holiday Monday. I ended up chilling out on a table by one of the windows, lapping up the sun and chatting with friends for about 5 hours.
They had a wide range of cakes, dotted around the place, and the one I went for was great. One of my friend had cream tea, which looked great and got rave reviews.
The place had a nice lively atmosphere, quiet to read a book in - but full enough of friends catching up, the odd young couple with small children to feel warm and inviting. Service was nice relaxed and friendly, and the place was fairly reasonable value - you can get their big builder mug of tea for a quid. Will definitely be going back to this place.

Such a lovely gem in Vauxhall. Incredible range of teas and food available. Make sure you try the cakes! You don't feel like you have to rush, it's a very relaxed and homely place to sit for a brunch or cup of tea.

Great service from the staff and thank you Rachel for suggesting what tea to choose. Myself and Jeff back from a 65 mile cycle trip around Surrey returned to have breakfast at 1700. This was no problem for the staff and cook. Also our bikes were allowed inside the tea room. Great reception from the staff and if we wanted space that was allowed. As soon as I made contact the staff would pop over.
We both had a full breakfast sausage, eggs, beans, bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, tomato, hash browns, bread and option of butter.
There were so many teas to choose from so it was great that Rachel helped us to decide what to go for and was a lovely cup of tea. Served in a tea pot with a knitted cosy.
The breakfast was cooked to perfection and did not taste of any oil. This showed a good quality oil used and the ingredients bacon and sausages did not taste like cheap ones. Very filling.
If you know what type of tea you would like this probably helps. The teas are made on site and no coffees are served. Even though that is my first preference this was no problem. The house tea was a lovely choice.
The cost of the meal and tea was high but then there was plenty of staff. The food was great, the quality of the food. There was no rush to move us out off the tables even though the tea room was full up. Lots of talking and smiles going around. Live music was playing which made an unusual addition.
If you want a great quality meal and cup of tea. Try the tea room theatre. Their values of not trying to rush you is great. I believe the service was great from all the staff. The relaxed and no rush approach is a refreshing approach which I am thank full for.

Super cute and exceptionally British tea house in a quiet part of Vauxhall, but the tea and cakes are really overpriced and not that good. Service is also slow, despite us going at 3pm on a Monday. Having said all of that, the savoury options (full English, kedgeree, sandwiches etc) are really good and much more reasonably priced (£7-12). It also seems very mother friendly, with community oriented events.
L. C.
This is a unique and truly incredible cafe. Huge range of teas, had a delicious shepherds pie and played scrabble with work colleagues! Service wasn't amazing, but wasn't awful and besides which, it added to the charm of this amazing place!
D. B.
Great place for tea and cake. Sooooo much variety! They have cats and games and books and a fire. They also sell booze and serve delicious food. The staff and management are very friendly and inviting. They even have a resident theatre company and have regular performances. Can't fault it!
G. C.
Lovely tea house, the variety of tea served is huge and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. Classical music plays softly in the background, and teapots are fitted with colorful covers.
We visited with three very noisy kids but staff was very friendly and understanding. They also have small play area our kids loved.
K. B.
Quirky place, great humour both in the posters up and the waiter. Have removed a star for the slightly slower service.
B. B.
It was quite unexpected for me to go all the way to Vauxhall but I felt like I had to try this beautiful tea house. On a sunny day I enjoyed leisuring with a huge teapot and two enormous scones with clotted cream and strawberries jam, while reading and listening to good music. Everything from staff to decoration, and the large choice of teas, is perfect. It would be my second home if I lived nearby, be sure of that. Go and give it a try !

The most delightful place- brought my Canadian cousin here and she loved it's Englishness! Yummy food, cosy seating and atmosphere and you never feel rushed, a resident kitty as well..all I needed was a blanket and I'd have been sorted! Also looking forward to seeing tonight's performance. Also in relation to a previous review- it's not "funeral music", it's classical music- all adding to the charm and atmosphere they are trying to create. It's a place to go if you appreciate traditional English charm.
R. M.
This is a quirky but delightful tea room by day and theatre by night. There is a real villagey feel, and is a break from the shiny corporate feel of the coffee houses in London. It reminded me of the children's programme Bagpuss inside. For those old enough to remember. There are homemade cakes dotted about, and a phenomenal range of teas. And two large cats draped on chairs. There is a range of seating from armchairs next to the fireplace to more formal dining chairs. There are board games and books to browse and blankets available if you fancy sitting outside on a sunny but chilly October day.
N. S.
Cute spot. Salmon salad could have a few more ingredients other than lashings of balsamic, a plateful of lettuce and beetroot. Waitresses need training - didn't bring accompaniments (granary bread) for salad, no salt or pepper, didn't check if we needed anything. I had to go inside to find her for our bill.
S. S.
Old London pub converted to a quirky tea room/restaurant and small theatre. Mismatched furniture and china, teapots with proper tea cosys, pages of different tea types on the menu, massive cakes and huge plates of food, board games to play while you eat and drink. All elements to make an interesting visit. The only problem for me was the service. A bit slow and the waitress tried to tell me I couldn't have decaf tea with my cream tea be ause it wasn't in the set menu and when I finally got my point across that that was how I wanted it she said I would be charged extra. As it happens I wasn't. I was also given a chipped cup i had to get changed. It took ages to attract the attention of any staff to get the bill. Otherwise it ws ok. This was my second visit but don't think I'll make a third. I think the tea is expensive because of it being a quirky 'cool' venue.

A fantastic calm oasis in the turbulent sea of vauxhall and Waterloo. This place offers a great range of tea, lovely brunch and fantastic cakes. A word of warning, they are very generous with their slices of cake, 1 slice easily satisfies two people.
C. H.
Amazing choice of tea. The eggs Bénédicte with Salmon are really nice and the piece of home made cake are massssiveee! Couldn’t finish half of my brownie! Super nice staff! And cats friendly! One of the cat of the house slept on my laps for one hour ahah! Great place if you want to spend time to study.
C.
This is a really delightful find in London, one of the nicest quirkiest places I have come across for some time. This does not deserve the low score which it has received. The staff are more than welcoming and the selection is excellent. As stated in other reviews, it does not sell coffee, though it is a teahouse so why would it! Really worth a visit.

Fantastic tea experience in an alternative reali(tea)...
You may be, as I was until today, a little confused by the very polarised reviews of this place.
There are several things that will aid you in your confusion. Firstly, Tea House Theatre is not Caffè Nero or Costa. Coffee is not an option (they don't serve it) and the pace of life is the complete opposite of the London coffee scene which may, or may not be, your cup of tea (if you will pardon the pun). Food does take a while to come, but in the alternative reali(tea) that is Tea House Theatre that is actually very relaxing as there are something like thirty to forty leaf teas to choose from, and no particular hurry from the staff (a friend and I spent over six hours there today).
The tea is top notch. It's worth noting that a 'small' teapot yields several cups. Helpfully tea cosies are provided which makes it easier to linger over your chosen brew. A small pot ranges from £5-£7. Note this is high quality leaf tea we are talking about.
The food definitely plays second fiddle to the tea - though my friend had an excellent full Scottish breakfast (£12). Sweet things are relatively expensive (£5-£8) but seem decent.
Walking into the place does feel like entering another world. It's a cross between stepping into an antiques shop and a well worn living room - classical music playing on the radio, old leather armchairs and proper wood furniture. Some would say there's a little bit too much clutter floating about but to be honest it adds to the charm of the place.
The staff seem generally friendly and accommodating (there are also two resident cats) but worth noting that this is the alternative reali(tea), not the Dorchester, and the service is pleasantly quirky rather than fantastically polished.
In short, Tea House Theatre is a fantastic experience, but one best enjoyed over a relaxed morning or afternoon where it is possible to appreciate the slowdown from hectic London life.
M. P.
Amazing cake. Don't go if you are in a hurry, it took ages to get served but we were having a nice catch up so we didn't mind a lot. My only critique is that there was not coffee at all. Know it is a tea house but even so......
A. S.
A hidden gem in a unsuspecting corner of London. Less than a km away from the river Thames the Tea House Theatre offers an extensive tea and cakes menu. The decor is unique and creates a pleasant backdrop for tea time. It's always a pleasure to come here.
M. P.
Delicious tea in a teapot with its own cosy! Nice space to sit outside and inside is quirky, yet funky. Lots of games to play and books to look out. Small I twreating touches everywhere. I really liked this place and will be going back.
R. C.
Probably the coziest option for a breakfast or lunch at the weekend around Vauxhall. Great selection of teas and cakes. Good and large full English breakfast for a reasonable price. Downside: sometimes it may take a while to get served. Crowded with crying babies at times ;)
C. F.
We had a wonderful evening. The show was incredible and the meal was enjoyed by us all. We really appreciate the effort the staff put in to making a very special evening. Would highly recommend. Thank you so much.
D.
I love this place, the staff are lovely, the food is great and the tea is divine!
S. S.
Very nice breakfast of boiled eggs and soldier’s. Huge tea menu and great staff.
P. V.
Lovely eccentric little tea house located in Vauxhall's rather grim surroundings. But if you're visiting the nearby Newport Street Gallery (and why else would you be here) it's well worth a stop. This is a real tea lovers paradise, serving properly made leaf teas served in classic teapots in cosies and vintage china. It has a classic tea house menu with amazing looking home made cakes, scones, muffins, but also savoury dishes. And here's the bad bit. The muffins with poached eggs, ham and hollandaise sauce I ordered, though delicious, took one hour to arrive. Then again, this is not the sort of place you visit if you're in a hurry. Just relax, enjoy the charming ambiance and service, and the lovely tea and cakes.
J. H.
Wonderful selection of teas and a very homely interior - will be coming back
D. S.
I stumbled across it unintentionally, whilst looking for another bar and I was definitely not disappointed. The cute fairy lights and retro decor inside drew me straight in. I had a lovely night with some live jazz music, I will be returning shortly!
N. C.
If you like tea and cake, this is the place for you. Bottomless pots of fantastic loose-leaf tea in a building just oozing character from the worn, cracked leather armchairs to the hand-knitted tea cosies. Expect to lose your entire afternoon.
O. I.
I always have a good time when I come here, the cakes are delicious, the service is good and the cafe is so cosy. Also in a great spot when warm and sitting outside. Can't fault it and looking forward to when I go next!
D. B.
Adorable.Vintage . Wonderful old fashioned hearty food. Resident cat- you get glimpses of him. Serious tea menu. Fun- worth the walk from Tate Britain every time.
K. W.
Lovely, chilled out, quirky place. The staff are lovely and cannot do enough to help you
M. M.
Lovely place for brunch (the porridge with bananas and the Welsh rarebit are v.good). Would have got 5 stars but although the food is great value, drinks are quite expensive and it drives me mad that they don't serve coffee.... c'mon owners if you read this - I'd go more because it is a lovely place to relax, but I hate tea!
P. H.
Great range of breakfasts and teas. Super service.
A. I.
Lovely atmosphere (paintings on the walls for sales, numerous theatre props scattered around and cats too) and great tea and cakes. Seem to be poor reviews for the wider menu but can't go wrong for the above.
C. A.
Best tea house in London, no doubts!
Peanut butter chocolate marble cake is DREAMY. also try vanilla tea! Friendly cat roams around too
N. M.
Lot of pretty idiotic reviews here- defo ignore. This place is the shebangles, trust. Extensive tea menu with actual history stories in it. Plus they serve you up MASSIVE slices of delicious cake. Also the room and vibe is delightful. Oh also also, it's a frickin theatre as well! Anyone who gave this place less than four stars needs to have a word with themselves. Plus they have rummikub. And cats.
D. S.
Albeit I'm partial to this place, the last couple of visits have been a tad disappointing. A place that specialises in tea, served me an ice tea out of a screw top bottle, and not freshly made. And the service can be terribly slow, partly due to the staff being busy but with their backs to you or out of sight, so they can't keep an eye on the punters.
J. B.
This is a tea house! And so much more.....
It has an amazing range of teas and the veggie breakfast is flipping brilliant!
I am sure they won't mind mentioning the Vauxhall City Farm which is a hop skip and a jump away, which is a great day out for the family!
C. W.
Super cute, non-frilly cafe perfect afternoon tea for a rainy day before a show. Lots of board games and friendly staff. The tea cozies are very cute. Highly recommend the duchess afternoon tea set!
U. M.
Brilliant food (including very generous portions of tea, fish, and cake), and a lovely buzzy atmosphere on the green. Went for the naked poetry night and all involved had great fun. Good for meals, drinks, or just some (exotic) tea.
J. D.
Quirky place in the middle of a park, they may be good at tea but lousy at serving gin and tonic. Great show though. Then we noticed this statement about leaving EU and everybody left.
K. M.
If you desire to discover the authentic English tea, this the best for you.
I loved the atmosphere of the pub, his style. It is located in Lambeth, close to Vauxhall, in a old theatre. I enjoyed a great jasmine tea, aromatic, sweetie...amazing!
I. A.
Lovely place to be , staff are friendly, I tried cake and tea . The cake was good the tea was normal nothing special, the location is nice decoration is cosy
Very nice place to have indoor or outdoor drink
M. L.
The Tea House Theatre has quickly become one of my favourite brunch spots in Vauxhall. Located in what used to be the oldest (female-run?) strip club in London, the dark, seedy interior has been replaced with a bright and sunny interior looking out onto the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. The cafe is full of quirky, decorative flair - my particular favourite is an old typewriter by the window, where customers are asked to type any comments they have. Tempting cakes and treats adorn the tables, with the loose-leaf tea from its expansive menu served in cute teapots with accompanying cosies.
As for the breakfast itself - one word - HUGE. Honestly, I challenge anyone to finish the Full English / Scottish / Ulster breakfast without help. There are also smaller bits and pieces on the menu (scrambled eggs, eggs benedict, breakfast sandwiches), and my favourite part of the menu, entitled "Things on toast". The full english breakfast and eggs benedict both tasted fantastic - whilst the eggy bread didn't quite come with enough maple syrup to satisfy American tastebuds. Service is variable - we've had both good and not-so-good service - I don't quite understand how three waitstaff can struggle with only 20-30 covers in the place. But don't let it put you off what is an otherwise excellent spot for brunch or afternoon tea.

Super cost cute Victorian cafe with amazing huge cakes and lovely selection of teas. Bit pricey for food but worth it when the house cat sits on your lap :)

Found this online on a list of tea shops, and it didn't disappoint. The old pub setting was really nice and the selection of tea was as you can expect, pretty amazing. And the menu describes all the tea well
A. V.
It's a tea house set on the edge of vauxhall pleasure gardens. many varieties of tea served which i have never heard off. and also wonderful cakes.
you can sit outside where the park gardens are full of exotic plants
F. C.
I love this place. The ambiance is from contry-english, the decor is delicious and the food is very very good.
I go here mainly for brunch but also the tea brake is very good. The staff is very kind at times when it is very busy the service is a bit slow but this does not matter just being in good company and enjoying the place.
S. A.
Cozy location and charismatic premises. A bit pricy, but I really enjoyed the sandwiches. For any coffee lovers it's notable that any coffee is not allowed within sight though.
J. B.
One of the best places to relax/eat/sample cake in London. Oh, and there's tea! Lots of delicious, infusing, revitalising tea, of many exotic varieties. Go and try for yourself.
j.
Delicious tea selection. Friendly and kind staff. Would absolutely recommend for a relaxing afternoon or evening with a friend. Lovely atmosphere ❤
R. R.
Lovely café. They have a nice terrasse. It's very cosy inside. They seem either to be understaffed or disorganised so service is a bit long. The selection of tea is excellent.

As with so many London cafes and bars, the root problem with the THT is that none of the staff have more than the most rudimentary grasp of English. Ordered the English Breakfast and asked for scrambled eggs. This led to a confused interaction about whether I wanted fried eggs and my repeated explanation that I wanted scrambled eggs. I also ordered a chocolate milkshake for my kids. The milkshake was undrinkably disgusting. Either the milk was off or it was made from the sharpest, sourest yoghurt, though the menu mentioned nothing about yoghurt or it being a smoothie. Again, there was a confused discussion about getting it replaced. I asked for a proper milkshake as a replacement and the waitress kept asking if I wanted the sour milkshake back! Eventually a watery chocolate milk arrived. The cooked breakfast arrived with fried eggs not scrambled and without the black pudding and toast mentioned on the menu. I asked about the toast (again, the usual total confusion about what I was asking about, and having to explain that the meal came with toast and it hadn't arrived etc) which then arrived 15 minutes later cold and hard after the meal was finished.
The venue is nice and comfortable and child-friendly and I would probably go back. The staff were always polite but ordering anything is a frustrating and prolonged experience requiring Pidgin English.

Really good coffee, and a nice selection of cards, and little stocking fillers. Incredibly popular most weekday mornings, so good luck finding a table.

One of the best tea houses in London. The interior is very cute, they have a huge selection of tea and they will give you a huge pot of it. Absolutely brilliant!

Hearty sized pudding portions.

Lovely tea house with a lot of character, creative vibes and a chilled, warm atmosphere. Large tea selection and good food too!

Is it even possible to be as good as you guys? I do not know what is better: The cozy armchairs, the tea, the cake, the scones, the interior... What more can you ask for to spend some relaxed time in a city like London. I hope I will get the chance to visit you again!
S. A.
We stayed not for very long, just to pick up some cake, but I wish I could have stayed longer, it was like a secret garden it was so full of whimsy, I recommend to anyone who could use a quick escape from the everyday.
V. E.
Nice place but a little bit slow :( we had to wait loads to the order to be taken and to have the tea
If you are not too hungry one cream tea is enough for two
Perfect place for a late tea afternoon and very easy to access

Tea House Theatre is a Vauxhall retreat that everyone should know about. Open and run by Harry (who also lives upstairs) as of 2011, this former strip pub was saved after a year of restoration, to become an off-the-West End theatre and tea room. Now one of the area’s favourite go-to spots, by day the place is the ultimate (coffee free) cafe with the multitude of bespoke teas coming from the same supplier who stock Fortnum & Mason’s...
