Reviews of The Black Penny Covent Garden
H. P.
I got the gatherer and it was nice and pretty big! The coconut cake was so so but not bad. The place was cozy and in a good location, and the service was really good!
O. O.
Great spot, located opposite the Freemason’s building just off Covent Garden. The cafe is not too busy, although it’s situated just off the main road.
The staff are super friendly, and the food and coffee is A1! Will be back, for sure
D. T.
One of the best coffees I've had in London. The coffee is perfect anyone who like coffee beans which are nutty and strong. The breakfast is great too. We had the "hunter" and "gatherer" breakfast meals. The mushroom, egg, French sourdough, and sausage are all perfectly cooked. However, there is a bit of sewage smell if you are sitting outdoor. I will definitely recommend sitting indoors instead.
S. M.
Food was great and coffee was good. Portion sizes were on the larger side, verging on to much. Interior is nice. The experience was let down a bit by the staff, though. We were served by multiple people, one of which was happy and enthusiastic, but the other was almost the polar opposite. Perhaps they were having a bad day, but definitely did not seem like they wanted to be there and felt very inattentive, they were not aware a drinks order had been made and started taking plates whilst we were still eating. Worth saying I would still revisit in the future.
F. E.
The food here was actually very very nice, really tasty. Good service. It is quite a pricey place a m'mosa is £8 but very enjoyable u get what you pay for
P. Q.
A nice café with fantastic food and very good portions. The french toast is very good and balances a lot of components very well.
M. L.
Very cosy interior. Good food and calm atmosphere, would go again.
A. H.
Really enjoyed my gluten free vegan breakfast! Lovely soy milk latte too! Very short queue time if you don't mind sitting at the bar
N. C.
Food was good as always but didn’t appreciate one of the staff’s attitude. Perhaps I sit outdoor so the lady didn’t realise I’m the customer. When I went in for toilet, her attitude was a bit rude. I guess she thought I was just a random pedestrian who wanted to use their toilet for free?
K. B.
Outstanding. Standing out from the crowd:
Go here.
I’ve lived in the west end 20 years and the Black Penny is simply ahead of the crowd. Great energy, great food, prompt service.
Go here.
K. S.
Food was great but the latte I had was the worst I have had anywhere. It was very small and seemed more like a coffee with drop milk .Very dark in colour. Staff very good but was very cramped seating in civent garden literally like being on same table as people next to you . They get gour stars for service and food but not
P. A.
Went for breakfast yesterday got there about 9.30 thankfully they fitted us in as only 2 of us, food was delicious I had the hunter and husband had porridge, service was great definitely a gem of a find, when we came out there was a queue so definitely great place for a delicious breakfast.
Y. L.
Enjoyed the food I had. And tasty juices as well but I just wish the portion of juice is a bit bigger. But in general, everything was good.
F. T.
Good coffee and friendly service. The general vibe of the place is pleasant as well. It was nice taking a break there when it was cold and rainy outside.
The gluten free tiffin slice was a nice treat, albeit a bit too sweet. The carrot cake was pretty good too.
T. N.
Great food and coffee. Lots of options on menu to suit any brunch taste. Service was polite and efficient. Highly recommend.
V. A.
Very good and prompt service. Really good coffee and generous portions. We had the hunter and the green egg. Matcha latte was a bit weak but still good. Oat latte was really good.
L. C.
great coffees, great bread and house jam, great service and fab ambience. at 8am on a weekday, I was surprised to see all other guests having much more substantial brunch plates with eggs, bacon, halloumi etc but they all looked great, so we'll be back to try them too
J. E.
Delicious duck salad with poached egg and full English breakfast. Everything was cooked well, although the poached eggs were on the less runny side but not completely cooked through thankfully. The duck was crispy and the salad was flavoursome.
Sat outside which was nice, although I felt the service was quite slow and inattentive, friendly nonetheless.
Coffee was good. Not worth coming back specifically for it, but nice to accompany brunch.
Would go back again for the food for sure.
E. m.
Friendly staff and warm service. Coffee is okay. But what they do really REALLY well is their baked beans. I could easily eat 2 servings by myself. Go for the Gatherer. A very hearty breakfast and it’s incredibly satisfying. Be prepared to wait (about 20mins or so). The seats aren’t the most comfortable but that’s okay, I will just focus on the baked beans.
L. T.
Lovely and fresh breakfast with great selection. Really good coffee and juices. A bit tight in space but at my visit the noise level was not a problem at all, even when the main service room was full. Highly recommended for breakfast.
j. h.
Possibly the best breakfast I’ve ever had. They obviously use good quality ingredients and excellent chefs. Staff were polite and helpful. Loved it.
S. N.
Very chic and cozy cafe in Covent Garden with great atmosphere. The service was very good - the stuff was very polite and friendly. The breakfast was extremely delicious. Highly recommended for breakfast.
N. A.
ALL DAY BREAKFAST .. Great Coffee & Great Service .. They have very beautiful outdoor seating as well !!
One of the best options in the area for breakfast !!
Lots of options in the menu .. Huge Portions ..
RECOMMENDED !!
L. O.
Great vibe, great food, great service, great music. I just didn't enjoy the coffee but this is personal taste as my wife loved it and would give them 5 stars
C. B.
Cosy place, serving breakfast all day.
Food is very nice and portions are filling.
Coffee is good, there are non dairy alternatives available, which is great.
The service is attentive, though the welcome wasn't the best and we got seated in the entrance, despite the fact that there were enough tables inside for lunch. It's a little bit loud and the table is small, so not the most comfortable option for having lunch.
Apart from that, I loved the food and would come back in another visit to London.
K. S.
The best breakfast I've ever had, the quality of the produce is just amazing absolutely delicious, we love Brighton where the standard of brunch is very high and this was exceptional
욤.
The quality of the food was better than I expected. Nice atmosphere! Cozy cafe to drop by and have a chat with some friends anytime. It wasn't really crowded, so I wasn't really disturbed by the others! :)
S. A.
I have been to many restraunts this is by far one of the best. They had one flaw which was the seating. The food was delicious the coffee was great. I would recommend the french toast, the fried egg and for the coffee Cortado.
A. S.
Had a fabulous brunch using a BuyAGift voucher. Main, tea and prosecco for 2. Staff were lovely and accommodating and the food delicious
A. B.
The staff were polite abd the coffee OK but, but it was a little light on Christmas cheer! Not one to avoid but I wouldn't go out of my way to come again.
B. H.
Great hidden away brunch place backed by some Great Coffee. Lovely staff! would become one of my London regulars.
M. A.
Excellent, great food, good coffee. We were looking for a typical English Breakfast, and it was perfect!
L. L.
The staffs are super friendly and helpful. The food taste decent for the price paid. The music inside the cafe was a bit loud, which made it hard to have a nice conversation with friends.
E. S.
Really cool spot with delicious, tasty healthy food and attentive (also cool) personnel. Taken there by a colleague, on my list of lesser-known gems now :)
M. K. (.
Oh my gosh, I just happened upon this place because I walked past it. Great coffee and even better Food.
S. G.
Great spot for brunch and coffee!
Strongly recommended! :)
E.
Best coffee and breakfast food that I've had in London yet!! Very cozy and modern feel.
S.
Ozdemir Pasha is seriously the best breakfast/brunch meal I've ever had. HIGHLY recommend. The place is quite small and gets busy so leave time for waiting for a table!
i. t.
English breakfast/brunch at its finest, with vegetarian options. Be prepared to queue for long if you go on Sunday morning! Even if we only had savoury meal, sweet pastries looked very interesting! Minimal cozy atmosphere with white walls and wood floors but with a vintage twist. Very good for groups of friends!
A. R.
Brilliant breakfast. Great food and lovely environment. Highly recommended.
R. S.
Beautiful breakfast and tea. Polite and friendly staff. Would 100% come back - some of the best scrambled eggs I've ever had.
K.
Had brunch here on Sunday and it was delicious! Great selection on the menu that it made it so difficult to chose! Coffee was also really good! Definitely recommend and will be back!
N. B.
Wonderful for a sit down brunch or a grab-and-go coffee. If you don't try anything else get the dirty chai latte, it'll rock your world in the best way possible
A. P.
Great brunch place and service. Coffee could be a tad larger size for the price. Lovely feel and the food was Epic.
I. M.
Good food, nice staff. The restaurant was packed we had to wait for 30 minutes to get seated.
T. F.
Really delicious brunch including enormous sausage and bacon baps. Quite small so does get about busy.
s. I.
It’s a nice place with a very friendly staff. They gave yummy recommendations however we waited for a long time to get the food. And it’s not the cheapest to say the least. I don’t think I’m going back there again.
R. D.
Food was delicious, coffee was great and hot chocolate was not so good. The staff were extra nice and they compensated our long wait to be seated. However the price was very much for what we had. I don’t think I will come again for that reason.
R. L.
Friendly and warm service.. food was great!! Coffee was okay ☕️☕️I will recommend crispy duck hash 😬😬 it was delicious 👍🏻👍🏻
M. D.
Coffee, breakfast, juices all amazing.
P. W.
Really pleasant flavourful food, more than i was expecting from the menu. I hoped for more from the v60 coffee , tasted like a mild medium roast, not bad just not special. The staff were lovely though a little rushed, presumably struggling with issues related to the pandemic.
Definitely worth visiting more than once
D. S.
Good delicious food for right price, friendly staff, great quite location, cosy restaurant…
H. H.
A lovely find. Delicious food and very attentive staff. Would highly recommend
J. S.
Loved the crispy duck hash and French toast
A. A. S.
Beautiful Location to have coffee ☕️ and amazing staff members are professional and supportive..
R. C.
Very good food And beautiful place for a brunch. I recommend that place.
J. m.
One of the best place for Breakfast, specially their coffee . Perfect strong coffee for coffee lovers.
J. A.
Nice French toast was here for breakfast when I was in London for a holiday hope to visit again when I’m in London
J. S.
Brunch was amazing. I had the duck hash. Superb. Coffee was average
K. P.
First time here, the full English which they call the hunter is executed excellently.
S. N.
Amazing brunch, even more amazing service in one of London's busiest spots. Didn't want to leave London without having a proper English breakfast and so glad I chose this one. Lots of other options in the menu too. Don't be diacouraged if you have to wait for a table. It's worth it.
M. S.
Lovely spot for breakfast, tables and space are pretty small though so you may end up waiting for a bit. Worth the wait though.
A. W.
Excellent breakfast and not too busy
K. K.
Everything, from coffee, to bread, to sausages and brownies was exceptional. Very tasty and down to earth prices. The service was so tentative and the team was welcoming, chatty and they did a really good job. They were just incredible. One of the best Brunches I had in London. Definitely going back.
G. S.
Beautiful place, Leo was gently and kind, he suggested us the best English breakfast experience.
e. l.
Six of us plus a toddler. The staff were amazing. So helpful...gave us a private dining area downstairs. Loads of choice on the menu. Food was delicious...would highly recommend the brioche french toast. Good value for money...we will definitely return...😊
W. B.
Nice choice of food for breakfast and brunch. coffee is really good also, thats a plus.
T. S. S.
Fantastic service, fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere!
M. G.
Very nice experience.... Good food. Very nice gluten free bread and gluten free buns.... The bun was especially soft and fabulous to eat.... The place was warm in the current heat wave as their was no air conditioning but that is an overall problem in London. The team was warm although it was a little annoying about how particular they were about allotting the tables.... The coffee was yummy.
M. K.
The food was really yum and the place has a a great setting. I had brunch here with my friend. Unfortunately the service wasn't great. I had to remind them of the drinks order and when I ordered my food I asked for the eggs not to be runny and got runny eggs. They then took the eggs away and left the rest of the plate to cool whilst they made the eggs more well done. The sour dough portion of bread is very small and when I asked for another slice I got charged. Food is good overall but not convinced with the service.
L. R.
Haven't been to this part of London before so had no idea of the standard of cafés etc but stopped off here for a meal before going to the Tutenkarmon Exhibition nearby. Wasn't disappointed, we had a really delicious meal, lamb for me and salmon for my husband. It maybe a small place but it certainly has big attitude. We would certainly be happy to revisit if we are ever in Chelsea again.
K. M.
Food is good quality and some original breakfast and brunch items on the menu. I love their hashes!
Only problem is the service. Feels slightly awkward whilst you are waiting for a table and the layout inside means that there is not someone to greet you at the door when you arrive so difficult to get attention from staff to get a table. Had to wait a long time for tap water to be brought to the table. Also had quite a wait for food, as it was busy the two times when I visited (Saturday lunchtime). Felt a bit disorganised in general the two times I visited.
R. L.
Purchased a smoothie, iced coffee and Breakfast Bun at Sloane Square for me and my girlfriend. Quick and pleasant service.....HANDS DOWN the best bacon and egg sandwich we’ve ever had! 10/10 would recommend!!
D. C.
Serving really good brunch and decent vegetarian options too. The coffee they have is up there with the best. Do expect to wait quite a while for a seat though I think we waited about 45 minutes at 9:30am on a Saturday
E.
Delicious food, good service, busy on weekends
W. Y. L.
Had a lovely brunch today. Ordered The Hunter and my friend Bubble & Squeak. The only pity was that the food was served on plates that hadn’t been warmed up hence the food turned cold very quickly.
N. F.
Their salads are great if you want something fresh and really tasty for a take-away lunch (it's my go-to lunchtime treat when I'm at work). Coffee is pretty good (not the best in the area, but close and fairly consistent).
I'm always tempted too by the baked goods which have not disappointed so far when I've caved in!
M. C.
Pleasant, if slightly cramped surroundings and the staff were very pleasant, quick and attentive. The vegetarian breakfast was extremely good and well cooked, although rather expensive. Coffee was good too and the fresh orange juice served in a 1/3 pint milk bottle was a nice touch
c. y. w.
Freshly made tasty foods
Friendly staffs
V. B.
Cool place for brunch. Lovely food and drinks. Great staff. Love that you can have prosecco for 1p extra though not sure how many people go for it. Seems a bit odd to have wine so early in the day.
Have also been here for lunch though I much prefer weekend brunches. Lunch portions can be quite small.
T. M.
Friendly staff, but not busy enough for 4 of them on a Sunday afternoon, I guess.
Selection of cakes (no pastries) not particularly exciting but quality ok. Coffee (the reason I went to Black Penny in the first place) however definitely not amongst the best.
F. T.
Another one of my favourite cafes, with comfortable seating and good coffee. They also do a nice matcha latte. I've been for lunch a couple of times and tried their tasty mix of salads with a choice of meat/fish. The brunch menu is also very tempting.
J. M. L.
£4 for pour over coffee and then 81p service charge on top of that! Not sure if I was happy with that but overall good coffee. I would take out if I was to go next time as it's very noisy if you sit by the window as they bash the bins when emptying out the coffee..
K. K.
I got the duck hash, every bite was amazing! Many ingredients, well balanced a touch of chilli , that was a 5 star hotel breakfast but much more interesting. Well done, chef! The service was also excellent, quick friendly.
E. M.
Really good coffee and delicious food. Service was very good too. Waiting for the host was a little strange with the way they operated it so be prepared. But they're still super sweet so it's okay
A. S.
Great place to Get a Coffee if you are around the Holborn area. Can be busy in peak hours so be prepared to wait. I personally really rate the Duck Hash. My only concern with the menu is I alway going home wanting more (Really not their problem). Is slightly on the pricey side but well worth it if you are looking for a solid a brunch location.
c.
First time coming here and very impressed with the coffee!
K. W.
One of the better breakfasts in London. The brioche French toast was well balanced between with hints of sweetness from the fruit, moisture from the ricotta and an interesting point of difference with the added spices (cardamon). The bacon, egg and sausage sandwich was amazing. Great bacon that wasn’t too salty, well cooked eggs and a perfectly toasted bun.
The coffee was great, however, the dirty chai wasn’t well balanced and a little weak.
M. R.
Lovely breakfast! The beans are something different... a bit pricey/service added...BUT well worth your money! Filled me up and I’d certainly go again! Friendly staff and tasty + filling food! 5⭐️
L. T.
Food was lovely and ladies serving. Only downside was food took quite a long time to come. Would go back
R. C.
1st vist - Great place to eat and brilliant service marred by the manager who kept blowing cigarette smoke in our faces while we were eating and talking loudly drowning our voices
2nd visit - the same manager occupied 4 outdoor seats, smoking again and would not vacate 2 seats. Selfish man and lost 2 potentially regular customers - sack him as he is bad for business.
K. E.
If you are a meat lover, I definitely recommend the hunter for a good breakfast
C. D.
Fantastic coffee, delicious prosecco and brunch menu - as well as fun, quirky space downstairs, perfect for intimate group lunch with friends. Service was very slow to start with (but was a busy weekend lunch period) and some staff friendlier / more helpful than others but overall would recommend based on the lovely food & drink.
B. S.
Really really good brunch! And the staff are lovely too.
M. M.
Probably my favourite breakfast in London. Turkish Australian. Expect halloumi, real beans, flat whites and friendly staff. Not vegetarian but I order The Gatherer which is a vegetarian breakfast because it's delicious.
Kitchen and food are always great, staff have been amazing but a bunch have left recently and the new service are really inattentive and rude if you draw their attention to it. Disappointing from somewhere I once rated 5 stars.
T.
The place is like a Tardis as in a lot bigger than it looks on the outside. Staff were friendly and professional. If you enjoy brunch, this place is perfect because the food was on point!
They have vegetarian and vegan options as well
J. M.
Always make a point of visiting here when close by. Great coffee. Attentive staff. Shame it’s small and a little cramped but that’s London for you!
P. B.
Good food. I recommend a shot of ginger.
J. M. I.
Great brunch menu, nice front of house or inside at the back seating, good for getting any work done, to meet a friend in town. Fair prices for food that’s offered I felt. Easy to locate in town. Nice staff :)
O. P.
Wonderful spot for getting brunch on weekends. Service is fast and attentive. The food comes quickly and in reasonably sized portions. Despite the fact of arriving Sunday at 12:30, we didn't have a problem finding a table.
P. A.
Proper espresso - none of that coffee chain rubbish. Great sandwiches and particularly nice cakes. Best of all - the enthusiastic and friendly staff - it makes all the difference - all though looking at the reviews it looks like we were lucky the lady with the hat wasn't around...
S. R.
Lovely cafe. Friendly staff. Good coffee. Wish it were a little bigger as it can get cramped but that's London for you!
S. W.
Really nice coffee, outside seating in a good location to sit and chat. Pleasant staff.
Y. C.
A chic cafe in Covent Garden that sells sandwiches, pastries, stews... very popular for its brunch.
The portion sizes are huge. Amongst the savoy dishes, I would recommend the Green Eggs (£9.90); sweet dishes the Brioche French Toast (£10.90).They have a good selection of teas and coffee too.
They don't do bookings, so go a bit before rush hours especially if you have a big group of people.
G. H.
The coffee is good, and the food is on the pleasant side of inoffensive. The Hunter breakfast was priced as high as a full English typically is in London, but we considered it expensive when it arrived with half a tomato and half a mushroom. The beans were very tomatoey, but pleasantly spiced.
M. T.
Went there last rainy Sunday morning with 2 of my friends and was already 4th in the waitlist - informed to be waiting for an estimated 45 mins. Waited nonetheless as we saw good reviews of the place and trusted our instincts that the queue said it all. We ended up waiting for 35 minutes, but all worth it. Had lattes and cappuccino which were both very good. Had their veg option - green eggs, which was very generous in serving and tasted fresh. We had their duck breakfast option, a first for us, which did not disappoint. would be a return customer for sure and will come earlier.
J. S.
Food was absolutely delicious, we had the Turkish breakfast - halloumi, fried eggs, parsley & sumac salad, hummus & sourdough toast, and the baked beans and poached eggs (both £9.90), all excellently done.
(As an aside, I enjoyed eavesdropping on the staff's chat, which added a lot to the general friendliness of the place.)
Hard to think of better places round here for the kind of brunchy-elaborate breakfast kinda of food we were looking for.
P. K.
I was going to Bill's but saw this was open at 8.30am so came in. Coffee was very good. But could've been hotter. Staff very friendly. So I had breakfast. I had the English with a twist. Very nice. One draw bag. The seats were cold to sit on. Never a good thing when dining. But dispite that. I would recommend the Black Penny.
a. a.
I had the best flat white ever. I would recommend it
J. K.
Wonderful coffee and breakfast was a real delicious treat. Try the mushroom and polenta hash with poached egg! The flavors won’t disappoint:)
S. H.
Great café, great coffee, great staff!
M. K.
Delightfully designed third-wave coffee shop with airy feel, friendly service and great food. Numerous brew methods including V60, siphon and cold brew - including a beautiful drip filter in the fireplace. Coffee from Alchemy roasters. Try their cold brew experiments like the coconut water infused brew.
J. B.
The menu is awesome, the music isn't my type (contemporary funk?), the actual food is nicely fresh and interesting but not quite as exciting as it looks on the page, the tea & service are great. Good for variety / vegetables / a change but I think The Fleetriver is still my favourite Holborn Cafe.
D. C.
A new coffee shop, on the site of a previous one, Salt, that closed about a year previously. It's been totally refurbished inside, with a nice big table in the back room, lots of wood and tasteful decoration. A decent coffee, the food looks good, and the staff are friendly.
P. N.
The food is fine but service is really not good enough. It takes them more than 5 minutes to serve a cup of coffee! I went there twice for breakfast during the same week (including once when I took my food away), and it was the same each time.
M.
Coffee is really good quality (and i am a coffee nerd) ; although i didnt have food. They have healthy light lunch options and a selection of cakes. Cosy place, wooden floors. Industrial looking. Perfect for grabbing a coffee to go or lunch with friends
R. P.
Delicious healthy breakfast options, freshly back pastries and excellent coffee. Service is friendly and attentive. Location is fantastic. Sitting outside in good weather makes for a fantastic breakfast experience.
A. W.
A little small and hard to get a table, but the food was incredible, reasonably fast and the coffee was top notch!
Beautiful decor, great music and hilarious staff to boot.
Food is well worth the money and portions were sizey! A+ recommended
M. D.
Great breakfast and amazing coffee.
As you manage to live Holborn Underground Station you find yourself in a more crowded area where neverending streets surround the station like a pack of snakes trying to suffocate its pray or at least making it feel utterly claustrophobic, and not by the number of travellers made out of frentic workers trying to get to their workplace but also the number of tourists stranded in the middle of the pavement and of course, the front of the train station goggling down their phones guided by Mighty Google Maps towards their destination which does not seem.to mirror existing reality... and how could it? Does VR ever match reality? No it doesnt. And there it is. The Black Penny.
Now, this place is new to me but only by presence and not by thought. I have passed this place so many times and never took the time to get acquainted. Don't ask me why is that as my answers would probably get you as annoyed as I was when I left the place. Yes, left it as now, my story is told backwards.
And the sky cried when I left. And it cried so hard that an umbrella from the nearest off-licence set me back £5 yet a tiny amount in exchange of preservation of my effort of pulling the best hairdo in weeks.
Before the sky cried, there was smoke. And fire. And an ashtray with a cigar. My cigar. No, I don't smoke. I puff. I had to. I mean, after that amazingly tasty spinach and eggs breakfast washed down by the strong coffee, the cigar seemed like the nail in the coffin. Oh yes, I did say coffin. But this coffin preserves. It preserves the memory of the best breakfast experience in years that made London the neverseen lover of my life.
M. K.
The Black Penny is a lively and pretty cafe, perfect for chilling with friends over a coffee! I ordered the duck confit, which was very interesting. The sweet potato hash complemented the duck very well, much to my surprise! The french toast looked excellent as well and I'll make a note to return to try it.
J. F.
Been a few times and food and service is always excellent. Hot drinks were a little disapppinting this time though
J. S.
I got the wild mushroom hash I had been eyeing for several weeks for takeaway and my friend the salt beef option. I also got a mix of three salads and salmon for takeaway. The food is not cheap- £12.90 each for the hashes, which are not huge, are pricey. But my god how flavourful they were. I loved the crumbled polenta and rich mushroom flavour and my friend was pleased the salt beef was in diced slices that made it easy to eat. I had the salads the next day: a quinoa pilaf, a broccoli salad and a cabbage mix. All fantastic with the huge piece of tasty salmon with a red pepper rub. The salted caramel macaron was also lovely to eat later- very sugary.
J. H.
Really nice food and coffee. Slow service let it down and food wasn't piping hot but warm enough to eat. Think if we went at a better/quieter time would get a 5*
M. W.
Great food and coffee with friendly service. Likely to be a wait but they take your number and give you a call when your table is ready so you don't have to wait there. Close to Covent Garden so easy to walk in while you wait.
A. M.
Great coffee, food and atmosphere!
s. p.
Very pleasant coffee, if a touch on the pricey side. I would gladly return again.
L. M.
Coffee there was nice, but it's not exactly a place where I would like to come back... Nothing wrong just not my "cup of tea". Weekend are very busy, first time I came there and was told they have 45mins mins queue. Second time I came on Wednesday afternoon and got table strait away. I haven't try any food there.
D. A.
Staff was friendly and attentive, decent music and atmosphere, but 50 minute wait for my order was just a bit too long. One of my poached eggs was overcooked but food was good in general.
P. P.
One of the tastiest breakfast's ive ever had. Top notch.
H. N.
Clean and crisp, friendly staff, good coffe
P. B.
Beautiful freshly prepared food and drinks. Brunch is a particular favourite. Try the green eggs with smoked salmon - fantastic.

Quite frankly the best brunch I've had in a long time. The portions are epic and they have excellent coffee. Recommend to book but also try your luck on the day.
N. H.
Great brunch, friendly staff. I had the duck hash and it was excellent. Usually very busy so choose your timing carefully or be prepared to wait with a coffee.
A. W.
Coffee is burnt as with most cafes in London and although I appreciate a small flat white take away cup having lived in Sydney for the last 5 years, theirs is more like a doppio than a flat white. They do have Bonsoy and Oat milk so I give them credit for that.
R. S.
Brews very good coffee, probably the best in the area, and makes tasty home made breakfasts, lunches and treats. Not cheap though so expect to pay £2.80 for a very small but very well made flat white!
T. L.
The perfect brunch in Covent Garden. Fresh and wholesome brunch options with a fine selection of drinks. The decor is right on trend; exposed brick, tall ceilings (at the back) and fine features. Plenty of folk tapping away on their Macbooks.
T.
I'm in two minds because one is the atmosphere it gives and quality food is good but it falls short by its wait time to get in, ordering, getting the food and breaking a major rule, one slice of toast only. Still a great place but when I was there, ok.
G. D.
Good coffee shop. Had two coffees and a cake. Food and drink good. Service was a little stretched over a busy lunchtime though serving staff remained cheerful.
N. K.
The best place in London for French Toast! Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Gets super busy on weekends, so you need to get there early.
R. S.
Just popped in for a coffee to use our new freedom but this is a place to visit regularly! Great coffee and perfect service.
K. G.
Lovely breakfast good portions, great friendly service.
R. L.
Amazing service and a great private room
O. G.
It’s ok, food was nice but the tables are tiny and very crammed in. They put me on the table in the dining area/ hall doorway where everyone walks through to sit down, as I had no choice but to be sat directly in the way everybody just pushed past. Bit weird and was the only way in or out. What if there’s a fire or something!!
K. L.
I had The Hunter breakfast here and it was fabulous. The home made baked beans stood out on a plate where every item was delicious.
H. C.
Great cafe serving really good, mostly healthy, food - although the cakes are pretty good!! Can sometimes be a struggle to find a table but worth the wait.
M. B.
Took my interest as I was walking past so I popped in for a Flat White to take away. If I am in the area again I would return and grab a bite to eat as the staff were friendly, the coffee was lovely and there was a nice buzz in the place.
J. D.
A very cosy place in the marvellous Covent garden district. Stuff are very friendly and the vegetarian pasha dish was wonderful and very filling. It is very popular so make sure you either go early or in weekdays instead.
D. P.
Great place for a quiet snack at any time of the day.
L. X. M.
Absolutely sublime coffee shop. The coffee has it's own unique flavour that brings me back every time to try it again. Would steal a bag of beans if I could!
M. A.
Had such an excellent dirty chai here - one of the best coffee beverages I had in a long time. I didn't try the food but I am confident it was good! Will return!
C.
Really cosy place for a coffee, not a huge amount of space to sit, I guess it s what make it cosy. Prices of the cakes are good, coffee in the average with a smaller size btw. Nice people there.
L. H.
Lovely lunch here today with friends, delicious lamb kofta with salads including a gorgeous shaved fennel with herbs. Glass of the house white and a perfect flat white. NIce buzzy feel and pared back decor.
N. S.
Best plate of eggs in the city!! delicious gluten free toast, great coffee, very friendly staff. I love this place!
J. M.
Very nice coffee and a nice communal table to eat / chat and hang out at. Nice light lunch options. Can be a bit cramped though - so hopefully those sitting beside you are pleasant
χ. μ.
Excellent breakfast, gentle staff
C. Y.
Great place for brunch and chat with friends!
C. T.
Tbh not impressed with the hot drinks (chai latte was more milk than chai) but oh my god the food! Delicious! Plus the place is super cute.
J.
Disappointing ;( beautiful venue but service and quality of cakes felt more like a chain. It seems like it’s been a victim of its own success over run with travellers and as a result has lost its heart of community and sense of self.
S. M.
One of those London's hidden gems: very good coffee, tasty food. Great spot to simply chill and/or catch up with some friend or your emails.
I. V.
Great food. You have to queue a bit but it's worth it. Really good coffee too.
K. H.
I love this place! Really good coffee and cakes. They have wifi and don't mind if you sit there for a bit.
S.
This place has some delicious food. Great place for brunch/breakfast. Service is great too.
J. J.
You know it’s good when I go for breakfast three times in three days. I wanted one of everything. Great coffee and breakfast.
S.
Fabulous menu, great coffee and nice back area to relax or work. Staff are always very accommodating.
J. B.
Funky atmosphere and delicious porridge. You need to have a sit down breakfast in London and the Black Penny will tick all the boxes
M. R.
Great breakfast and phenomenal bubble&squeak!
S. S.
It s basically like eating an english breakfast. The only difference is that the quality, freshness and taste of the products is way higher than the average. Highly recommended.
S. A.
FULL. ENGLISH. BREAKFAST. I literally had it once, four years ago and I was just daydreaming about it. Perhaps the best meal I have ever eaten. YEAH.
K. S.
Brunch at the weekends are very busy, so expect ques. However the food and and decor do make up for the rather small space and lengthy wait.
T. D.
Great Coffee and a delicious breakfast. Highly recommend their home made beans. I went for the Hunter breakfast. Also good service
R. A.
Excellent Brunch based eateries with friendly and helpful staff
M. M.
I've been coming here regularly for a year, and the food and coffee are good. Recently the staff has changed and the service has been extremely slow and inefficient
A. T.
Awesome brunch very tasty! Good coffees too. It's just packed every Sunday!
W. C.

M. N.
Really bad coffee, delicious food, but cold and loud and with unfriendly service. But the food is worth it.
M. K.
My fav local coffeeshop. Good selection of coffee (flat white is definitely my fav!), great food and friendly stuff.
I.
Nice atmosphere, but far too pricey
A. G.
Food and coffee were delicious but choice is extremely limited. Much of the menu has been redacted and the selection of teas was poor.
S. B.
I go here all the time - their take away salad boxes are really great - delicious and filling! Great value.
T. B.
Never been before but very helpful and friendly staff with excellent service.

G. B.
Good coffee and pastry’s.
T. A.
Food is excellent, but there's usually a wait to have a seat and it's a bit pricey. You can't make reservations unless you're six or more.
K. P.
INCREDIBLE crispy duck and sweet potato hash and reasonably priced compared to other famous brunch venues
D. M.
A bit pricey, because of the area, but excellent brunch. Good food in good quantity and very kind staff.
D. W. (.
