Reviews of The Drawing Rooms (at The Ampersand Hotel)

I have no words to describe this massive tea place. Its lovely inside. You will be thrilled how nice to have a cuppa inside the cafe. they do all sorts of teas if you are into tea.I pop in often for a tea and cakes. this is my favourite place to have a meeting with my clients. they all love it here. specially how they brew the tea its fascinating. recent visit we have a problem with our order one of the indian looking guy think he is manager came to us and explained everything with our order. still hate ordering from tables but they are there always to help. highly recommended if you love a cuppa!

I had a really fun time at the science themed afternoon tea. I'm a Brit living in Canada, so I love getting afternoon tea everytime I visit & they did not disappoint. Everything was delicious and fun! I would say I wish they did some endless items that wasn't just tea (though I understand not everywhere does this). The passionfruit spread is honestly to die for its sooo good! Their Saturn cake is so divine and light, probably my favourite. I am a big kid at heart so I do wish the adults also had their afternoon tea served on a rocket 😂 Would definitely recommend for a fun unique experience 👌

We had a fantastic Science afternoon tea at the Ampersand hotel. It was a unique and memorable experience for the whole family. The hospitality team were brilliant and ensured that every part of the tea was enjoyed to the full. The savoury and sweet selection were tasty and the variety of teas offered were exceptional. Definitely a must after a visit to the science museum! Thank you to Shakibul for being attentive through out our experience!

I took my little ones to the science afternoon tea for my birthday. It was a really lovely interactive experience which they thoroughly enjoyed. Staff were very kind, good service here. It could be improved by adding more savoury items - there were no finger sandwiches which would have been nice to have.
On the pricey side but a nice experience nonetheless

We chose the Ampersand Hotel for a Hen Party Afternoon Tea. It was particularly appropriate as the bride to be is a chemist. The tea was excellent with different diets catered for with no problem. The waiter who looked after us was very smiley and helpful. All in all it was a lovely afternoon and I would certainly recommend it.

Took my hod son for science afternoon tea and he enjoyed it as much as I did. From the moment we entered the lobby we knew this was going to be a great experience (and our husky was allowed in too)
The kids tea in a rocket tower with smoke coming from its base made his eyes light up and the sandwiches and scones all tasted great.
He got to search for chocolate fossils and did his own experiment with fizzy lemonade.
Would recommend for any child 5 and older.

We went for a pre-booked Sunday afternoon tea to this hotel that offers restaurant service. There was a vegan option, so it was great to see that they catered for us. And due to its proximity to the Science Museum, it was a scientific-like and distinctive afternoon tea.
The tea room is fitting for a 5-star hotel in Chelsea. The seats were very comfortable, but I'm not very sure they were that great for eating. I felt I was a bit far from the table and I couldn't recline my back or you'd be too far from the other guest and wouldn't hear the conversation (unless you want to be heard by the other guests).
When they brought the cake stand the waiter added something to the top layer that made it smoke. He even advised to have your camera ready, which I thought it was handy. Impressive presentation. Starting from the bottom, the sandwiches were cut to laser perfection and I appreciated the beetroot brioche bun for a change instead of all of them with sandwich bread. All the bread was soft and the fillings varied. My favourite was the guacamole and vegan cheese sandwich. The scones felt like fresh out the oven and spongy and moist inside. Most of the vegan scones I've had were dry, so it was nice that these were spot-on. They came with margarine, jam and a coulis inside a toothpaste tube! The cakes were small enough to prompt you to try them all. The Victoria sponge in a planet shape blew my mind. And I loved that there were two of each (sandwiches, scones and cakes), so that we could both try them all.
In summary, incredible attention to detail, the staff was courteous to a high standard hotel, and overall it was a joyous experience: both visually and palate-wise. A definite come back, but for special occasions only (because of the price).

Best afternoon tea ever!!! Absolutely divine food, attentive service, very reasonable for the amount of deliciousness served. And fun!! Highly recommend 🫖

Spectacular! What an awesome experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the Scientific Afternoon Tea at the Drawing Rooms. We didn’t really know what to expect but the whole experience and the food was outstanding. The service could not have been better. Every single detail, addition and item of food was well thought and tasted Devine. The “science tea” started with test tubes and syringes with bright liquid and was delicious. The tiered serving of delightful treats was complimented with our tea in a pot. Savory, scones and then dessert sweets were all delicious to the very last crumb. My wife celebrated here birthday here and the staff were fantastic, offering her champagne and a ‘birthday delight” that further amplified the entire experience. We have had “high tea” all around the world and this is by far the most memorable. We have never had a “scientific afternoon tea” but it was mindblowingly fantastic. Sit by the windows on a sunny day and the whole experience is surreal. Thank you very much!

The service was excellent and the setting was nice, but I got the gluten free afternoon tea and the bread on my sandwiches was very stale. So stale I just ate the filling amd had to leave the bread. The rest was great though, the scones especially were delicious, and the science theme was really fun. However, I gave 3 stars because they charge the same as places like the savoy, and claridges and fortnum and masons, all who have delicious sandwiches and excellent quality. I wasn't happy paying so much here for food that was of less quality then places of the same price.

Best best themed afternoon tea, I have had for a long time, and the best I have had with my kids, very welcoming and cozy interior, very friendly and serviceminded staff. Very lovely afternoon with science themed mixing of drinks, planet based chocolates and dino cookies in chocolate edible soil served with dry ice for maximum effect. Perfecr after a visit at one of the South Ken. Museums.

We seriously enjoyed our High Tea experience here. We were 15 minutes late and they still saved our table, which was awesome. They also had a seating for High tea at 5:30pm.
We had one normal and one vegetarian option. The smoked salmon cracker, quiche, and scones were amazing. The mango desert, macaroons and space man chocolate were too cute. The coolest part was the dry ice!! So fun and thematic!!
We both liked our teas, the Ampresand and a Rooibos. The reason I’m only giving 3 stars is because the service was horrible. The waiters were nice but it was quite hard to get their attention even though there weren’t that many people there. It started off great but went down hill quickly. The tea room itself is quite pretty, lite and quaint.

Nice afternoon tea, with a science twist. Food was ok, but nothing special. The science theme could have been explored more and better. And sitting by the window, we had lots of ants coming through the window frame. Not very pleasant...

We are here for the Science theme afternoon tea, it was super fun! Everything is very delicious and creative. Atmosphere is quite relaxed which I enjoy, would go back to try different theme if they have.

Omg how amazing is this place. It's a unique experience of having afternoon tea whilst also doing the odd science experiment or even dusting for fossil related chocolate goodness. It was epic! The staff were very friendly even if albeit unused to a person asking them questions before they explained it all. Not sure we heard every instruction but the food was divine. Very unique and fabulous. Thanks for a wonderful birthday experience

Had a lovely time at The Drawing Rooms and had the Science Tea set menu for 2 people. The price is definitely higher than most places, but the experience is wonderful. We had quite a lot of food(sandwiches, a selection of sweet treats and chocolate) as well as 2 different tea pots and 3 'sciencey' cocktails that featured dry ice, candy floss and changing colours. The service was also very good, our waitress being very friendly and accommodating.
M. P.
One would think having a set menu afternoon tea would be a relatively easy task to accomplish. Well, not here. It took more than on hour to get served, which almost tainted the entire experience.
However, when our order finally arrived, we were delighted and very impressed by the selection and level of detail to make it scientificly yummy.
p. m.
Mediocre at best. Service was quite slow and the sandwiches were quite dry. The kids enjoyed the "science" angle. There wasn't really any science- they just let them mix their own drinks.
They were quite slow attending to us, but to their credit, they comped us a tea, so I won't let that affect their rating. It was just sort of OK.
A. T.
The food was good, and loads of creative things going on.
I had the vegan menu and was pretty yumm.
It's a nice experience overall but a bit too pricey.

Science Afternoon tea at the Ampersand Drawing Rooms. You read that right. Science and afternoon tea combined! Starting off with a lemonade experiment. The afternoon tea continues with a dry ice twist to a planet shaped mousse, injected macaroons and spaceman rocketship edibles. Finishes with an edible excavation, for which you're provided all the tools. Multiple fields of science experienced.
Also has an exciting alcoholic version.

Had a few hours to kill in Lower Kensington on a recent trip to London and figured a coffee was in order! The Drawing Room came up as a suggested coffee shop with the same address as the Ampersand Hotel.
Upon arrival to the hotel, we were greeted by hotel staff who immediately offered to store our luggage we were walking around with and kindly escorted us to the small cafe lounge at the front of the hotel called - The Drawing Room.
Elegant Decor, comfy furniture and rich aromas full the room. Many people were casually gathered with friends/family for Afternoon Tea. My wife and I were led to a small table in the back and had a wonderful cappuccino. Would highly recommend this for a quiet detour with wonderful service and atmosphere.

Wonderful afternoon tea!
Top quality, good service, a great experience.

Came here for the science themed afternoon tea with some friends. The food was lovely throughout. Two of us had the vegan option and it was one of the nicest ones we've had as you could tell thought and care had been put into the menu. There were a small selection of teas to choose from but a good variety
S. P.
Lovely staff and delicious food! My friend and I decided to try the science afternoon tea and we loved it! It definitely made her birthday special!

This was sooo good. Food was amazing, and the staff were pleasant.

I loved the science afternoon tea! The staff was kind and attentive. It was lively, but not loud. Would definitely recommend this to everyone!

I came here for afternoon tea last week. Beautiful decor. The afternoon tea is science themes which is a nice change to the norm. The savouries are a bit different to your classics but if I'm honest I enjoy the classics. A nice thing to do on a day out in London.
E. H.
The perfect location for my 1st ever afternoon tea. The ambience was delightful. The selections were great. We shared the vegetarian offering because we weren’t that hungry and it was plenty for both.
A. M.
Fantastic fun with a science afternoon tea after a visit to the natural history museum - will do this again. Charming staff, brilliant with my two children and an entirely delightful experience.

Brilliant place in the basement, suitable for business meetings (there's a nice secluded wine room), casual drinks and food alike. Good service. Not too busy in the afternoon.
S. L.
Had a wonderful afternoon tea here. Well recommended to anyone. Such a relaxed atmosphere
J. M.
Good service and good food. The science afternoon tea is fun as well.

A top quality high tea. We had the science high tea with champagne 😉 and it was really a special treat. The best food I've had in London. The service was lovely but the staff were handling two floors and looked harried. Next time I'd order one high tea to share for two - it was more than ample size 😁.
E. C.
Excellent afternoon tea. Traditional setup with original flair! They have a science theme. Just get one tower, it’s enough for two to share!
A. D.
An elegant yet relaxing setting with perfect delivery of the science afternoon tea for our little ones. The tea itself is delicious, staff couldn't do enough, amazing service, we cannot wait to return! Thank you

I was treated to a vegetarian 'science' afternoon tea at the Ampersand Hotel by my friend. We arrived a bit early and very hungry so had a cocktail and some nibbles (arancini and a peach and ricotta salad) at the bar first. These were all delicious and the decor in the bar was very cool.
For the tea itself we relocated to the Drawing Rooms, which are nicely decorated too but in less of a hipster style - more colourful and flouncy. It was very quiet in there, and staff were friendly when present but we saw many different staff throughout our tea and had to call them over several times for refills rather than being checked on as I'd expect. They explained the set up, with different toppings etc, and to start we were given a cocktail to mix ourselves using science equipment, which seemed really fun but ended up a weird brown colour and not very tasty.
This was followed by the tea, which was absolutely fine, and the food, which was somewhat mediocre. Savouries were an egg mayo roll, a little mushroom quiche, a cucumber roulade sandwich, and a brioche roll with vegetables. All had a very rich flavour but none were especially tasty. The scones were good, and extra cream was provided on request. The freeze dried raspberry and pineapple toppings and little caramel balls were a fun idea but didn't really add anything to the more typical cream, jam and lemon curd. The cakes and pastries looked very impressive, but again they were a bit more style than substance. I enjoyed the macaroon but didn't use the pipette of fruit puree to inject into it as my friend did this first and didn't like the combination. The textures of the mousses were not enjoyable to me, and I ended up hardly eating more than a bite of each just to try them all.
Ultimately, this tea has a lot of novelty value and is very instagram friendly, but flavour-wise the food just isn't up to scratch and I'd rather eat at the bar instead.

The Science afternoon tea is worth the price. I enjoyed the theme and it was quite delicious.

Lovely experience, comfortable seating and great truffle egg tart. More than happy to go again with friends/ kids!

Very cool unique tea, I’ve never had an afternoon tea like this. Definitely great for anyone wanting to do something unique. Lots of delicious options for everyone, Vegan & Gluten Free! Very friendly and charming staff as well :)

Had a great time trying their science afternoon tea. Highly recommend. Staff were great and food was equally as good.

The afternoon tea was creative and fun. The location is lovely and the staff are very friendly. It's publicised price seems high, but given the novelty and location i succumbed. But i had not prepared myself for the VAT and added service charge. I would certainly take friends if it wasn't for this. It did leave me feeling a bit robbed which is a shame given all the other positives.
K. M.
Overpriced yet a tasty science themed afternoon tea. Would've been nice if it was more interactive though

For a phenomenal high tea experience with a science twist you need to come here. 6 stars for presentation - 7/5 stars for diabetic coma factor. You won't regret it!

Waited over 50m for food to be served - that's a long time to survive on tea and more tea. Food itself is delicious but the long wait and sometimes absent staff detract from the experience
K. D.
Excellent tasty food! Amazing diner and desserts! Montbazillac wine is just a delightful! Strongly recommend!!
C. R.
Met here for an informal meeting. The setting was impressive but with coffee machines and loud clearing up it made for a noisy meeting!
