I was very pleasantly surprised. This restaurant is associated with/part of St. John's Smith Square church which was thoroughly bombed out in WWII but not rebuilt until 1969 as a concert hall.
The restaurant is located in the Crypt, very similar to St. Martin in the Fields but smaller and more intimate. However, and it's a big however, it's not so small that you feel terribly claustrophobic. It is actually very nice and what Google Maps likes to call "cosy", and it's possible to find a seat where it's relatively quiet, a difficult thing to do anywhere these days. The opening hours are quite flexible, so besides the normal restaurant schedule they are also open during performances on Saturdays and Sundays too. The restaurant also has the benefit of the easiest access to a crypt due to the recent reconstruction of any crypt I have been in. So if mobility and access is a challenge to you, this is a nice place to go.
As far as food, drink and service go, it's as good or better than most of the more famous venues in London. That is to say, it is very good. For lunch you can opt for the set menu, hot or cold, meat or vegan, and it's under £10. You can check out my photos at the end of the review, but the food was delicious, ample portions, coffee and drinks were great, the deserts tasty and the service top notch. With respect to the service, they actually really were notable - very friendly and helpful.
Amenities - modern and first class restrooms, also with dedicated handicap/family access, easy entrance and exit through the attached gift shop, and all modern lighting, heating, air conditioning and other services.
All in all this is a great place for a meal or drink, either as a standalone destination or in conjunction with a concert. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Very impressed by this restaurant. We decided to stay for a meal after a concert. They have a full restaurant menu but also a cheaper buffet service of both hot and cold food. We had this buffet choice and it was very good. Also, lovely cakes and good coffee. Staff were friendly and there was a very relaxed atmosphere. I would guess this might be a quiet spot well worth knowing about, a bit off the beaten track in an otherwise busy area. Give it a try.

Nice environment and good service. Slow cooked beef cheek superb, very tender. Apple and rhubarb crumble had an aniseed taste but very nice. Prices are reasonable for that part of London. Given its proximity to parliament it is quite discreet and out of the way of crowds.

Visited for Christmas Dinner with depsrtment. Would rate overall experience 2 1/2 stars as exactly average - some points raising the experience, but in this case the service raised the grade to 3
Overall location pleasant, evoking a feeling of set in a wine cellar vault, but with better decor (artwork and decoration) Food was OK, feeling that it was a bit pricey for the quality £27 for two coucoursestrimmings OK, stuffing good but turkey a bit dry. The Chocolate Marquise was OK). The worst part was the service in terms of delivery, some people were left waiting for their turkey mains, but to balance this the actual training / attitude of staff was excellent hence the three not two star review.
Overall worth a visit, don't expect great things but OK price quality wise.

Lovely atmosphere and good food. Portions a bit off... Tiny main but huge dessert. I'd still recommend though

Interesting little place, abit hard to find the entrance but if you want around the circle you'll find it! Food is quite good but menu is lacking a little, the lunch foods are quite heavy, would be good if they had a lighter lunch menu, just sandwiches or toasties for a quick go and a meeting
