Reviews of The Moustache

One of the favourite cafes in Sydenham. Perfect for a brunch or a piece of delicious gluten-free orange almond cake. Plus nice staff, very quirky decor and community events. Don’t miss this wonderful cafe.

A fantastic little café that brings a friendly, bohemian vibe to Sydenham. The atmosphere is warm and quirky without being alienating, the food is delicious and manages to be simple without being simplistic but, crucially, the coffee is great.
This would ordinarily be enough to tip it into the five-star category for me, but the winning factor for me is the staff. They are absolutely lovely; attentive, friendly, and accommodating. I've been to plenty of cafés where the staff have glared at me with thinly-veiled resentment as they have to stop scrolling on their phones to sell me a coffee — if you want to experience the polar opposite, you'll find it at The Moustache.
I've not even mentioned the great gluten-free options, plenty of baked goods and homemade chutney to purchase, and a good beer selection, if you end up staying longer than you expected. There's plenty of seating downstairs too — don't be fooled looking in through the window at street-level.
I can't believe I found this place right on my doorstep — I will be back!

Really nice, cozy and artsy café. I had a delicious pumpking pie-bread and really enjoyed the atmosphere and very sweet staff.
Definitely coming back to see a live jazz show! Should be every Thursday downstairs 🎷🎶🎙️
To The Moustache: I think you would benefit from writing in big letters on the window that there's more seating downstairs, many ppl came up to the door, looked in and then left assuming there was no seating available.

Friendly engaging staff, excellent coffee and snacks (mine was a slice of mushroom and leek quiche - delicious). Quirky artistic decore and don't be put off if all the tables are taken upstairs plenty more seating downstairs. Will certainly be going back and if you're a fancier of craft beer or wine there's plenty of that on offer too.

Charming in every way. Great coffee, interesting and quality menu, super friendly staff, beautiful decoration (especially the surprise downstairs area) and a toy corner for toddlers. Can’t fault.

Super cute and friendly cafe, with amazing pastries and delicious latter

This is my favourite local cafe which also serves an amazing selection of food and drink. Great for GF and VG food, I recommend the tapas plates and nordic vodkas. Also occasionally some great live events.

Firstly, a damn fine cup of coffee. Secondly the chili scrambled eggs were magnificent. Lovely decor and friendly service. I'll be back.

You know when you have been searching for something and places just dont seem to tick all the boxes, well...I found my place. Close to home and secretive enough for me. As much as I want to see this place busy, i love how it does have its serenity.
I found "The Moustache" by chance and so happy I did of course.
on entry you'll step in and be like "aaaah", it instantly feels cosy, has a rustic theme to it with odd chair sets and tables, bare wood flooring and exposed brick work.
As this place is owned by an Artist, you will see art work which is for sale on the walls.
Music played in the background is a perfect volume and old school jazz music. It feels a bit like a step back in time when youre hear. I find it hard to leave when I have the intention to stay just for a short while...oh well.
Coffee is well made with a good coffee bean, not the fruity stuff but good proper coffee.
homemade cakes, which I found to die for! is it wierd I had it with a beer.
yes they serve beer, bottled, canned (Brixton Brewery/Ignition Brewery) and on tap too (Electric IPA).
As well as Prosecco, wine, red or white and gin.
Food menu is seriously tasty. Might sound the same as options you get in other places but its done really well.
Theres a morning to afternoon menu and then one for the evening.
Ive had poached eggs with chorizo slices, on sourdough toast and smashed avacado. Presentation was on point and very artistic, portion size is great and and tastes all amazing! not exaggerating.
Also had a butternut squash and ginger soup thats served with toast.
Carrot cake!!!! too good and finished my afternoon off with a cheeseboard for two hahaha but it was just for me.
This cheese board is like no other. Homemade crackers, chilli oil, olives, garnishing, chorizo, cheese and a few interesting dips to really spoil you.
see photos for proof. You'll enjoy your experience!
They have a baby buggy parking railing outside, play room downstairs for kids, unisex toilet.
Once a month they have a film club on with projector screen, havent tried it myself yet but will do.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Definitely a returning customer!!!!
you wil get lost with time in here if you have a book.

A real hidden gem. Delightful local café / bar full of character. Right now (Lockdown III) serving takeaway drinks and snacks, and selling a wide range of artisanal groceries e.g. craft beer, organic wine, local preserves. A great pit stop if you’re going for a walk in the area and want a coffee.

This inviting, charming cafe is a true gem - as is the staff!
I happened to walk by and was lured in by the relaxed decor. Then, I perused the menu - and asked it they have gluten-free bread. Yes, they do - AND, they make it in-house! I ordered a toastie. It was as delicious as it was beautiful.

Been to a couple of the wonderful jazz nights in the basement. Food looks good. Good wine selection and Atlantic IPA on tap.

Quirky arty café, such a lovely addition to the neighbourhood! Located on Kirkdale between Sydenham and Forest Hill, this is a lovely relaxing spot for breakfast, lunch or a coffee and cake in the afternoon. The interior is vintage bric-a-brac, many items like wall art, lamps and chairs are for sale. Jazz and swing tunes playing. Friendly staff, welcoming to dogs and kids. Excellent coffee and well priced food ranging from Mexican breakfast, Greek spinach filo tart, warm goats cheese and pear salad to toasties and homemade cakes and vegan macaroons. Some outdoor seating too! Good spot for a glass of wine, local craft beer or G&T. Moustache is open Thu - Sat in the evenings until 10pm. Would be great place for live music and Balboa or Tango dancing. Bravo Team Moustache!

Our favourite local café: food and drink always delicious, owners and staff friendly and obliging, atmosphere pleasant with fun décor and great old music playing. They do a terrific brunch. Highly recommended.

This place is a hidden gem! Since the moment we found it we haven’t stopped going. Great for breakfasts, brunches and also, some snacks and wine in the evening.
Everything is homemade and the quality is excellent!
The staff is very friendly. And on top of that they have good prices ;)
We are definitely going back and back again.
Thank you!

This place is such a gem. It has a very intimate downstairs area which has a ton of character and a (almost) secret area for kids to play.
R. H.
Lovely and very cool cafe. Excellent cakes and drinks, and a great menu...in a well right out venue. Will be back!

The best! Wonderful food, drinks, and atmosphere. Everything carefully thought out and selected. A place of culture, community, and conversation.....not to mention excellent coffee and home baked cakes (good wine, beer, & savouries too). Even a safe place for children to play downstairs, while parents relax a bit.
Gaba & Pawel have created something very special here.
Regular portrait drawing evenings & film showings are now becoming established too.
S. A.
Great quiche! Love the downstairs bit with all the funky decorations
S. H.
It was okay, not great. Good coffeé, cakes could be better, but that's à personal choice; interior, quirky and interestingly different but could fall into the cliched. Still better than a chain.
G. H.
Quirky and interesting cafe. Fantastic gluten free polenta cake and a great different carrot cake. Downstairs a great area for children with toys and table football. You can spend your visit just looking at the eccentric wall pieces and the wall made of doors.
L. A.
Lots of care goes into their food - great ingredients. Thoughtful play space in the basement for small children. Great atmosphere and art. Free events: film club 1st Friday and Portrait Drawing meetup on 2nd and 4th Thursday of month.
D. T.
A perfectly formed local gem with a small, delicious menu + GF cakes + draught beer + a kids area downstairs. Perfect for a restless dad

Lovely little spot in Kirkdale. Super friendly staff. Had a coffee and a lemon cake. Both perfect 👌

I'm so happy to have The Moustache near me. It's such a unique space, warm, inviting, interesting and full of art. The organic food, wine and beer top it off for me. We are so lucky to have them here!

Nice little coffee shop and eatery and bar in the evenings. Well worth a visit. Staff very welcoming and their offering is great.

Okay, descente coffeè, cakes oksy, not great but okay, quirky surrounding but better than à chain.

Lovely cafe! Really nice ‘shabby chic’ decor, good coffee and the food was great. Really friendly staff too!

Feast your eyes on treasures from back in time while you sip your yummy coffee or evening wine, beer on tap and delicious nibbles (homemade spreads are too good). Can’t wait to go back when I’m back in town!
