Reviews of Damhouse

A nice ,friendly place to eat. Quite a good selection of snacks and meals at reasonable prices. Parking can be a bit tricky for the disabled as there a few places right in front of Dam House, especially when it gets a busy.

It's a lovely place for a quiet gentle stroll, either with your dogs or children. That's a small lake with ducks and other wildlife. Lots of trees. Places to sit and reflect. The cafe is there so you can have refreshments, coffee and cake and light meals. Dogs are allowed in the courtyard but not inside the cafe. So bear in mind when it's raining, snowing or really cold you will have to sit outside.

We enjoyed a lovely visit during Heritage Weekend, where we had a short talk about Damhouse's history, given by one of the trustees, which was followed by a brilliant and free guided tour of the top floor, not normally accessible to the public except by prior arrangement. This was a fascinating and absorbing trip back to the house's construction in 1595, to see how it was out together. We were able to see the pared back structure of the mansion, and appreciate the construction methods used to build such a grand residence. while enjoying a most interesting commentary. It was a very special treat to view the way in which this lovely building was constructed. There is much to see, including an old schoolroom, servants quarters, and a splendid Long Gallery, where dances took place so long ago. Most of the rooms have excellent collections of photographs of the house and surrounding area, and a wonderful array of memorabilia from Damhouse's life as an isolation hospital for many years, until it closed about fifty years ago.
Living close to Damhouse, we have visited it countless times, to enjoy the wonderful food on offer daily, or the varied, mostly outdoor, entertainment for the whole family, held at intervals throughout year.
The weather was wonderful for our visit, and we enjoyed a delicious snack in the courtyard, where we were very appreciative of the warm sunshine of a late summer's afternoon .
Well worth a visit, as is a walk anytime around the small and beautifully natural grounds, to view the ancient trees, the pond with ducks to feed, or walk one's dogs.

Great place to walk the dog especially when it's hot as there is plenty of shade
Had a lovely breakfast in the courtyard

Good dog walking area around the pond and through the trees although not extensive.
Coffee shop is well thought of but not dogfriendly, which is a pity.

Nice place, unfortunately cafe closed at present due to lockdown

Lovely little tearoom, food always very tasty and gorgeous desserts. Duck pond and small circular walk next to the building. You can get a 50p bag of food for the ducks as there are signs not to feed them bread which shows their level of care to the wildlife there.

A very quaint place with great and freindly service . Full English breakfast comes recommended and will be visiting again

Visited the Damhouse last month for the first time. Its an old building in a lovely setting, with a pond and a little circular walk to the side. Originally came for lunch but arrived too early so settled for a breakfast. Food was very tasty and well presented. Staff were very helpful and welcoming, and we will be going back soon to enjoy a lunch there. Can highly recommended a visit.

Have always liked it over the years. Recently we had tea and a coffee. Both very nice. My wife is fussy about tea but liked this pot of tea very much. Lovely relaxing, historic atmosphere with some great paintings by some local artists.

Beautiful historic buildings.
Open to the public.
Theres a 1st floor Cafe which I highly recommend with lovely cheerful staff and the food is amazing.
Set in its own grounds with its own large duck pond and woodland.
Wildlife is everywhere from birds to squirrels to foxes..

Lovely afternoon tea. Booked community room for 12 of us. Really nice over looking the gardens. Highly recommended. Sandwiches full and delicious. Reasonably priced.

A beautiful building in lovely surroundings. The tea room food is nice and the young lady who worked there was pleasant, pity not all are. Parking was a nightmare as the car park is blocked off with huge cement bolders and no one informed us. There was also an event on that hadn't been advertised by Dam House on their events page which was a shame as we would have liked to have attended that. Pity more isn't done here but then again some people were not approachable so maybe that's why.

This is a fantastic place for reunions, meals, a stroll through the park, feeding the ducks ( duck food at cafe only) and is steped in 400 years of history, enjoy.
