Really good. Only 2 minor downsides, was quite cold and my eggs were very slightly over but excellent brunch
R. H.
Every time I visit Jesmond I go for brunch, if I can get a table. We love this place, the food is fantastic. My nephew says it has the best Vegetarian breakfast ever. Casual, laid back and a great atmosphere. Exceptional value for money.
A. T.
The place is so nice and cozy, we had oat milk mochas and the fudge which was SO good, but would definitely recommend sharing!! Coffee was great, and the staff is very friendly :)

We visited Caffe 1901 Bistro for breakfast on a couple of mornings whilst staying in Jesmond recently and were thoroughly impressed on both occasions.
There is a good variety of dishes from Full English, (which was one of the finest I've had), to granola bowls and sandwiches. The toast was thick cut and served with plenty of butter and jam and the portion sizes are sufficient for all but those who indulge in extreme eating competitions!! Consequently, although you will probably be able to find cheaper alternatives for breakfast, in my opinion Caffe 1901 offers great value for money.
Although we didn't sample anything other than breakfast items we saw other dishes delivered to a number of other tables, including burgers and baked potatoes, and all looked fantastic.
It is also worth noting that the menu includes plenty of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan choices and a wonderful array of cakes, which I didn't have the opportunity, (or stomach space!), to sample.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the environment is light and airy and the decor is quirky and interesting.
Overall a fabulous little place to eat, just off the main road through Jesmond and one that I'd heartily recommend and will visit again on my next trip to the area.
J. G.
Food is astonishing, beautiful and tasty, smoothies and milkshake are really good. The decoration is cozy. You don't need to book in advance and they are dog friendly!
S. C.
On a nostalgia trip to Jesmond, we were lucky enough to come across this super place! Although in a venerable old building, the cafe/bistro has a lovely contemporary atmosphere and the menu is large and varied. The sandwiches we ordered were really substantial, with lots of delicious ingredients packed in, and a proper side salad. Service was friendly and prompt. Wish Caffe 1901 had existed forty years ago when we lived round the corner!
I. A.
This cafe is amazing, the atmosphere is great, a really cool place. The food is also delicious with some great veggie and vegan options too, and it's also dog friendly. The perfect place!
P. M.
Always a real treat to visit. Food is gorgeous, with a fantastic range of vegetarian and vegan options. The decor is great and the staff are so lovely. Cannot fault it at all, love everything about it!
M. E.
I had Creamy Mushrooms - Portobello mushrooms on sourdough toast - with a side order of bacon. It was delicious. I will return and try something else. Spoilt for choice. Friendly service as well. What more do you need?
K. B.
The breakfast is really good here. The staff are efficient and friendly. I think that some of the furniture could do with an upgrade, it's not very comfortable.
R. P.
Fab cosy cafe in the centre of jesmond. Popular with all ages. Dog friendly. Coffee is delicious and made professionally. Food is amazing, well presented, value for money and can cater for all dietary types. Highly recommend!
J. C.
A very nice place to visit - the menu is delightful, with a very tempting view of their sweet treats as you wait for a table or place your order.
Charming decor and welcoming staff, serving delicious and reasonably priced food. Great value for money and a welcome place to visit.
Thank you!
S. B.
Amazing place. Amazing staff. Amazing food. Staff will always try to accommodate as much as they can but the only problem with this place is it's too nice and too popular. Its difficult to get a table sometimes. But takeaway is always on offer. They need a bigger place but then the authenticity wouldnt be there. Catch 22. Try it tho please. You won't be disappointed.
C.
A great cafe selling tasty, original dishes. Friendly staff, quirky decor and a great location in Jesmond.
A. b.
Very good menu. Lots of choice for breakfast. Sandwiches looked amazing. On this occasion we had coffee and cake from their selection of traybakes. Highly recommended 👍
F. A.
Food quality OK. I tried the vegetarian breakfast and the avocado toast. Vegetarian sausages were just average but the avocado toast was very rich and tasty. Seating area is always crowded inside and small tables are available outside.
K. S. A.
Popped in for coffee, and surprised with the variety of breakfast options they have.
So, in shory, my suggestion is this: do not miss the opportunity to have you breakfast here.
S. P.
Brilliant breakfast. Great coffee. Everything was of the highest quality. We visited as a group, so sampled a fairly wide selection of veggie and non-veggie options between us. We were all very impressed. Long queues did develop while we were eating, but we arrived early ahead of the queues, and the food was well worth waiting for anyway
N. Z.
Great options for everyone no matter if your vegan, vegetarian or a meat eater. And food is better quality than the piece, and aesthetic is on point super cosy.
J. T.
Incredible food, gorgeously decorated and super quick service!
Queues out the door for a very good reason, worth the wait!
M. M.
First time visiting this place after scouring Jesmond and finding everywhere was full. Needless to say these guys had a queue leading to the exit!
The place is really cosy with great rustic decor all around.
The menu was extensive but not too much to the point it’s hard to make a decision.
Ordered the vegetarian breakfast (see pictures) was really delicious and really filling. they offer a Vegan version as well. Took around 25 minutes to arrive but put that down to being really busy. The meal and tea came to £12. Well worth a visit. I would recommend going when it’s quite as getting seating can be difficult. I sat at the corner near the glass door, really cosy for a cup of tea but a bit difficult to eat a meal on! My bad.
Highly recommend this place. 5 stars!
R. W.
Great cafe, attached to the local church in West Jesmond, Newcastle. Superb Quality breakfast. Gets busy after 10.00am on Saturday.
D. M.
Inside a church just off Osmond rs Jesmond, quirky seats including old cinema chairs & high ceilings with huge window at front. Solid brunch menu, delicious sour dough bread, interesting poached eggs, buttery hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict. Coffee also very good. Young staff and lots of uni folk in in Monday morning, buzzy atmosphere. Not cheap but well priced in this area. Lunch menu also available, and cakes looked great too!
M. S.
One of the best decaf iced lattes I’ve had! Service was lovely too, will definitely be back :)
S. J.
High quality cafe food great for breakfast and homemade cakes. Friendly and understandably busy.
A. R.
Second time visiting here. Such amazing food, great atmosphere and very accommodating of our daughter, high chair needs etc.
L. H.
Alright. Breakfast was pretty darn good albeit very slow service. Not the cleanest inside when we went, the comfier sofas felt a bit sandy. Maybe we'll try again on a less busy day.
G. R.
called in for the second time after some deliberation on my money the staff placed my order. full english . poached egg and salmon very nice we enjoyed the food and the relaxed atmosphere within this cafe/church very good long may it continue
D. R.
What a fantastic breakfast menu,. It's a shame we only discovered this place on the last day of our stay in Newcastle. Quality ingredients cooked to perfection. I had a takeout of a couple of cheese scones and a slab of cake to eat later too.
L. S. F.
Nicely prepared coffee, good salads and a nice team serving!! Love the place, will be here nearly daily the next three months...
K. O.
Beautiful cafe with seating inside and outside. Service is great and the breakfast is huge.
A.
Fabulous breakfast. Didn’t have tea as drink, but chose to go here because of the Bird and Blend tea they offer. Will return.
A. W.
Had lunch here today. The food wasn't what I expected, quite expensive for what you get. Although the food was was tasty, it wasn't anything to write home about. The milkshake however was tip top. Really nice, relaxed venue though and friendly staff.
A. S.
First time been for a while. But always enjoy the visit. Quality fayre
Had soup and Americano coffee
Soup was 🥕 and lentil. Really lovely. Would have liked a larger potion
A. H.
Had takeaway afternoon tea from here for a large group. Absolutely delicious sandwiches, scones and cakes - especially loved the biscoff/caramac rocky road. Great portions! All dietary requirements really well catered for. Definitely recommend.
S. T.
Nice selection of coffee on the menu. Great iced coffee on a warm day. Dog friendly too. They even bought a bowl of water to the table for the dog.
R. P.
Cafe inside old church. Good selection for breakfast, lunch. Cooked and sandwiches available, Eggs Benedict to full English. Large seating area inside with lovely mis matched furniture. Worth the queue wait.
M.
Really lovely and cosy, looks like they've redone the inside of a church. Can't book so may end up having to queue a small bit. Smoothies were incredibly delicious
L. C. R.
Good coffee, good wifi, good atmosphere and great staff, it is so good that it can get quite busy at certain times, so box clever and enjoy this place, I'm sure you will enjoy the coffee. Great job to all the staff keep up the good work.👍😎
D. S.
Great cafe serving a wide variety of food and drink. Good service. In and outdoor seating.
A. H.
Great breakfast although a little pricey! But you definitely get what you pay for! Perfect poached eggs and the black pudding is to die for!
L. M.
Great coffee( possibly best in Jesmond)
Great menu with everything from sweet treats to a salad .
With the current covid restrictions it can be a bit tricky getting a table and sometimes ques out the door but with no real order of who get seated first.
Even with the disorganised queing it is still worth while waiting for a table .
J. S.
Great food ,great service and dog friendly what more could you ask for .
d. b.
Busy place but worth waiting for. Very nice breakfast and good atmosphere
A. M.
Crowded and a little on the pricey side, but enjoyable nonetheless. The food is fresh and well prepared though the staff feels a bit stressed out by the crowds.
C. S.
Tucked away in this old church building, this Bistro has bravely kept going providing home cooked delights to keep us going through the Pandemic. Great place to meet and eat, worth all their stars.
C. I.
Beautiful place . Food 5 star . Always fresh and tasty . Staff friendly . Highly recommend
I. D.
Fantastic service and amazing food! We ordered two cooked breakfasts through deliveroo and unfortunately the deliveroo driver gave us the wrong order (the deliveroo driver's mistake, not the restaurant). I called up the cafe and the staff member was very helpful and told me how to get in contact with deliveroo.
They sent our food out again very quickly with no charge and even included an extra cake! The food was amazing and the service even better, I will definitely be ordering again. You must try the biscoff rocky road, it is delicious.
Thank you to the restaurant and waitress for all your help.
A. G.
Nice and pretty place, some veg dishes need upgrades
강.
Very good sandwiches, teas and other dishes, including vegan options. Warm surroundings and good service. Always worth a stop when you are in Jesmond! This is our go to place for breakfast every time we are up Newcastle, if not in Jesmond its 100% worth the trip. I always get the full English, it's amazing and my mate always gets the smashed avocado with bacon
M. T.
Visited for brunch, nice atmosphere, friendly staff with quick service but not the best eggs Benedict and the smoothie was ruined by coconut being poured on top!
j. g.
Amazing food, of a very high quality, we had raspberry ice Teas, Veg Burger and fries, Jacket Potato, which was amazing cooked properly with crispy skin and fluffy insides and Cheese Toastie, all the food was of an amazing quality, our new favourite place
D. T.
Lovely! Great food and staff are super friendly. Expect to queue at busier times but worth the wait
A. S.
There wasn't a big choice in the food but what I had (tuna melt sandwich) and a protein shake, it was delicious. I like the decor of the place and the staff there were helpful and friendly.
s. o.
Really nice food, nicely presented and of a high quality it doesn't taste bulk bought from Costco at least.
Inside looks good but it's too cramped it's just not pleasant! Avoid if you have kids or mobility issues
H. T.
Everyone that works here is so lovely and I am such a fan of the veggie brioche & green juice! I requested the green juice in the recyclable coffee takeaway cup instead of plastic and they were cool with it.
I. S.
Fabulous food, great atmosphere, fantastically quirky!
P. B.
Amazing food and the decor and venue is lovely. Only negative point is the staff are fairly non-engaging and aloof. I like friendly and happy customer service. Still, worth a visit though
R. H.
After getting over the price of £12 for a coffee and veggie breakfast. The delicious fresh clean food arrived. The coffee was tasty. The breakfast was perfect. Well worth the £12 paid. Can't say how much I like this meal. I keep coming back and will continue to do so.
SPOT ON. NO COMPLAINTS. what more can I say...
A. C.
Food is very good, definitely recommend the corn fritters! Coffee most times has been excellent. Service often a bit slow, but at least a lovely atmosphere to sit and spend the time. Cake counter is excellent, particularly the scones.
P. R.
At the beginning we were a bit bummed with the queue size, but it was completely worth the wait. The place is decorated in quite a unique way, the staff is friendly and the food is delicious. It took a bit longer than expected until we had our food served, but the room was completely packed.
A. N.
Great atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and love to chat. Dogs are welcome and treats are available! On top of that you have lovely food, sumptuous cakes and delicious coffee, smoothies and shakes! Free WiFi too, so good for when you need to get a bit of work done.
M. M.
An absolutely delicious breakfast - a very generous portion ...delivered with 20 mins as promised too... I would highly recommend... Yum!
t. t.
Amazing service, the quality of food and the freshness of the cakes i highly recommend the raspberry cheesecake if there's ant when you visit that cheesecake is amazing and to die for. The staff here are really friendly and helpful. The prices do reflect the quality of the food which is amazing so do expect to pay a bit more then usual. Highly recommended it to any one who hasn't visored it or just just keeps putting off the visit.
B. T.
Lovely vegan soup ..and cake ...dog friendly too ...
M. H.
Not the cheapest but great quality. Had some corn cakes, avocado and sriachia and a veggie breakfast. Very well cooked, fresh ingredients with some nice touches - perfect poached eggs, no watery bits and some sharp feta on those perfectly textured corn cakes (crispy out, fluffy in). Would have extended to cakes which looked delicious but got full. Staff chatty and friendly.
J. C.
One of our fave spots in Jesmond...lunch, brunch, cuppas or just cake, it's fab all day long. The staff are so great too, always super friendly and helpful when we're trying to wheel our twins in amongst all the beautifully quirky tables and chairs. Total thumbs up 👍🏼
J. W.
Good coffee and a nice menu, snacks and light meals. The staff were friendly and helpful, and although it took a few minutes for the food to arrive it was worth the wait. Quirky furniture and decoration, great atmosphere, peaceful.
K.
Very nice staff and coffee at this location. They have nice food! Delicious sweet treats. It is lockdown so I can only get what’s made up for takeaway.
C. S.
I have visited here for breakfast with friends and family on a few occasions and have always found it very pleasant. It's usually quite busy so you may have to wait for a table but the food is great quality and the cafe caters for both vegan and vegetarian diets as well as meat eaters. Definitely would recommend to anyone who lives in Jesmond or is staying locally.
J. B.
Nice but a little expensive. Food is lovely though. It's an old church and it can be cold at times. The seating is varied with an eclectic mix of old chairs to sit on including cinema seats. They don't show any films though. You can however buy second hand book if you wish. There are a limited number of seats outside and water for your dog if you have one. Never seen a dog inside which is good.
A. B.
Breakfast was lovely and was delivered quickly. The rationale for sending dairy butter with a vegan breakfast (even after offering vegan bread) was not clear to me but not a deal breaker
A. C.
Came here for brunch on Christmas eve, the venue is beautiful with high light ceilings. Quirky chair set up and was packed by lunchtime, we were glad to have reserve a table. Food was amazing and could easily have stayed all afternoon.
S. L.
I love the coffee and the food is fabulous. I do feel the interior is grungy, and I know the look is ad hoc/ boho/pre loved furniture, but I'm dying to make it look cleaner! That's just me though !
A. P.
Nice café. Only had a drink, but hugely coveted an eggs Benedict I saw being served.
R. B.
Friendly staff, quirky, not cheap. Food was nice and I'd go back if in area again.
T. L.
Great breakfast, friendly staff and good option for vegan/gluten free
C. W.
After moving to Gosforth from North London, was so happy to find 1901 which lives up to anyone's brunch standards. Sandwiches are fresh, delicious and packed with fillings. Cakes are INCREDIBLE. Since lockdown we've been ordering via Deliveroo and the food travels really well, even the sweet potato fries! Genuinely care about their customers. We love you 1901!
j. w.
Great food and good service!
K. R.
Great coffee and lovely cakes
L. P.
Great place for brunch. Boho, old methodist church hall. Popular with students and locals alike. Perfect eggs.
N. K.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere, great food and perfect coffee however it is pricey for what you get but that's expected for the location.
L. H.
First visit to this lovely quirky cafe. Delicious coffee and vegan slice. Other people's meals/snacks looked very tempting too. Definitely will visit again.
N. N.
Totally recommended! Very modern and unique ambient with some really amazing food.

You won't get a better flat white anywhere. The food is first rate. Could the restaurant be a little cleaner around and under the tables? Perhaps. Takeaway service available!

The victoria sponge's portion was too small compared to the price tagged to it. It used to be more generous.

This busy little gem is a must. Had the eggs Benedict for brunch, it was perfect and so filling it saw me through the whole day. Will definitely go back when I'm up north again
