Reviews of Les Petits Choux
I. F.
I love this place! The black forest cake here is the BEST I've had in England!!!
Madly in love with the cakes here 🤩 Every single one of them is so good to try ...... If I'm ever in Newcastle again, I'll definitely be back!
A. R.
Absolutely beautiful food!
We had lunch here after wanting to go for ages and it was everything I was hoping for. The savoury food was great, and the cakes and pastries were SENSATIONAL! As someone who used to live in Europe I am very nitpicky when it comes to pastries and cake and I was honestly so, so happy with everything we tried here! Do yourself a favour and visit!
The staff were also absolutely lovely! 😊
L. A.
Really cute little cafe. Super affordable especially considering the food is actually really nice. The staff were friendly and there's lots of outside seating. There were a couple veggie options but it was lacking vegan. The veggie halloumi flat bread i had was delicious.
P. J.
Great little cafe, visited after Leazes parkrun with some of the team. Good range of savoury and sweet treats, and nice late. Only a few seats so catch them when it's quiet or sit outside if it's nice 🙂

Amazing!
Staff are so friendly and lovely and dining table got nice view on street and just opposite lizeses park. They got nice French sweets and it is unique in newcastle. Breakfast is simple but so delicious. I strongly recommend this coffee to try.
R. H.
I’ve only been here a little while but already it’s an amazing place with high quality food and coffee. I highly recommend!

I love this place, cozy. Try the croissants they are amazing!!!!

Nipped in here prior to a Newcastle match for a takeaway coffee and a something sweet. 1st time visit so wasn't sure what to expect, however my latte was very good and the choice of sweet tasty things was almost bewildering, everything looked so good. I think this might be my new pre-match destination from now on!
R. W.
Great bakery/cafe with an amazing selection of fresh cakes and a great lunch menu! Coffee and hot chocolate are excellent and the staff are really friendly - definitely worth trying if you live/work near here.
D. H.
Lovely little café, ideally situated for Newcastle University, the RVI and Leazes Park, and not far from Eldon Square and Northumberland Street shopping if you want to get away from the crowds. Good food, but portions of some (not all) dishes can be small, and very limited if you can't eat dairy, as my lunch partner couldn't. Strange, for a place that advertises non-dairy milk for its drinks. Also small, so leave plenty of time before your next appointment, as you may have to wait for a seat, especially in the winter when there isn't any outside seating. But justifiably popular, and I'd go back, just not with someone lactose-intolerant.
M. S.
Tasty, fresh baked cruasonts both sweet and sour, cupcakes and Great tasting coffee. Very good place for quick bite and treat.
D. C.
Very friendly coffee shop, with some fantastic pastries, sandwiches & more. Have been quite a few times & will keep returning! Excellent 😀
S. P.
Have been the lovely cafe for many times, never regret every time when I visit. Lovely staff with beautiful fresh handmade desserts, make you never feel guilty for a treat! Lovely atmosphere and close to the park for short period walk. Strongly recommended for weekend families visit and weekdays professionals.

I was craving a coffe when I found this lovely caffé! The selection of cakes and pastries is amazing and the coffee was excellent. I didn't know what to order as everything looked very delicious so I asked the woman at the counter. She was very friendly and helpful because what I had was wonderful!! You can tell that it was freshly baked and you cannot find that detail anywhere. I will definitely go back to Les Petits Choux!
A. T.
It's a shame I couldnt sit in because of covid. But overall a lovely little cafe near the entrance of Leazers Park.
I definitely want to go back to try their full menu, but I got a tasty hot chocolate and some amazing cakes.
One cake was coffee chocolate cheesecake which really packed a punch. The second was orange cake with peanut butter. The peanut butter didnt come through as much, but it was an amazing chocolate orange cake nevertheless.
J. B.
Most excellent coffee and cake! Everything is home made and you can tell. Thoroughly recommended!
M. R.
A fantastic little eatery a stone's throw from the RVI. Have been looking after my newborn son at hospital the last week and was bored/fed up with eating the same fare from within the hospital. The menu here is uncluttered and offers quality eats. Opted for a toasted flatbread with chicken, pesto and mozzarella. The flatbread was beautiful. Light and smelled amazing. The filling delicious. We sat outside in the sun and it was a welcome switch off from the hospital world. Prices are sensible and the service efficient. I'll be coming back as there was a mouthwatering selection of sweet treats that I didn't have time to try. Coffee top notch too.
A. G.
Amazing little cafe next to work! Great food, good selection of drinks and cakes and great prices and the staff are amazing!
う. N.
I love this place:) dog friendly, free wifi
J. C.
Very kind people and great cakes and coffee. I had quite a hard time finding places good for either in Newcastle, and this place really stood out.
B. K.
A hidden gem in Newcastle. Perfect coffee, tea, cakes and service. The almond croissants are to die for.
A. j.
Lovely breakfast opposite a garden and friendly staff
C. P.
They have quite nice desserts with a really nice price.
R. M.
Beautiful quite little place in town with beautiful sweets made in the shop by the owner and her daughters ❤️
J. B.
Very impressive coffee - and judging by the number of takeaways they fielded while we were there, lots of people know this! Delicious and very tempting pastries (slightly on the pricy side) to go with the coffee, and tasty flatbread sandwiches (hot or cold) for an excellent light lunch. Pretty busy at lunchtime on a Monday, but well worth a visit, and we'll be back.
w. t.
Lovely choux bun, good coffee, friendly service and they have worked hard to be COVID secure. Wandered into the park and sat in the sunshine. Perfect thing after a very boring training session.
A. L.
It's so cute and bright inside the cafe. Prices are reasonable to the quality of the food.
K. C.
My new favourite place! Had lovely flatbread, followed by meringue and coffee. Would definitely recommend
I. C.
Small and cosy coffee shop, gluten free cakes options and lovely coffee!
L. R.
A lovely little bakery with some truly delicious cakes. Recommended after a walk in the park.
S. P.
An understated treasure of a little cafe serving homemade goodies with teas, coffees and other drinks. In the current pandemic, there's no seating but they are still serving fabulous cakes (gateau, cheesecake, éclairs) and savoury goodies to takeaway. Personally, this is my favourite cake shop in Newcastle... independent, family run cafe, lovely service, delicious food and reasonably priced. Only criticism is when normality returns, occasionally it's a bit of a challenge getting a table during peak times but despite this, the table/seat is worth waiting for.
J. S.
Had some Dutch apple crumble, which I haven't had for a long time! Absolutely perfect just like my mom makes at home.
E. F.
It was one of my favourite places. The cakes are great here, but flatbreads didn’t have a good flavour. Also the most disappointing is their approach to environment. They decided to use disposable everything, not accepting your own cup and not even putting your second order on the same plate. I understand that COVID makes us to adjust, but there are ways to still keep it sustainable! Try learning from other cafes!!!
S. I.
Love this place! The coffee and croissants are phenomenal. Great selection of sweet foods like scones and tarts. A good selection of heavier foods like sandwiches as well. Never had something i dont like here. Quaint cafe situated right beside the park. The streets are never busy as well, and lots of parking right beside the area.
K. A.
Staff were so friendly! Ran in about 3.15pm so not long to closing time but the staff were still lovely, a lot of places the staff would normally be very begrudging. Took two coffees and treats away. Very tasty treats. Coffee a little strong and my earl grey could have brewed longer but it was a takeaway. Will definitely come back though!
D. B.
Nice place for a coffee and pâtisserie.
It is a small place will limited seating space, but they offer take away.
The Paris-Brest is nice, reminds me of the ones I used to stuff my face with back in France.
Overall would recommend to anyone.
Note: Check opening hours before heading there, to avoid disappointment.
A. R.
Cracking bowl of granola for a fiver and an espresso that caught me by surprise that it was so good. My only regret was running out of time for a cake.
D. B.
An absolute little Gem of a place, not very big but certainly wows, the Latte i had was amazing, the Ferrero Roche choux bun was over far too soon.. so pleased to see it survived the Covid..
M. H.
Very nice cafe, great cakes and great staff
R. B.
Great cakes, decent coffee.
J. S.
I've passed this place many many times and never really thought much of going in.
This morning after parking the car my son thought he could smell bacon cooking and was desperate for a bacon sandwich. As a special treat we went in.
Unfortunately they were unable to serve bacon sandwiches before 10.30am (not quite sure why).
However, seeing how disappointed he was the staff went out of their way to find an alternative that he was happy with! Whilst some reading this might by cynical that they were just trying to ensure a sale, it was more than apparent that the staff really care about their customers leaving happy!
We'll definitely be returning....I've eyed up a rather tasty looking scone as well as some beautiful looking cakes!
Would definitely recommend stopping by!
J. B.
Stopped in for a quick lunch and enjoyed everything. Great soup and cheese scone!
L. R.
This little cafe is a real find. The lunch menu offers a small but perfectly formed selection of soups, sandwiches and salads. I had the goats cheese salad, which was incredibly tasty - a little on the small side, but it was plenty for a light lunch. My friend had the soup of the day and said it was delicious. NB I think they stop serving lunch at 3.30, but they closed at 4 when I was there, so that makes sense.
What I also loved was that they had gluten free options for cakes - I hadn't found a review that mentioned them, so I was expecting to have to go without! I had a brownie with a chocolate and dried fruit/nut topping which was incredibly tasty and had to be eaten in two separate sittings!
The coffee was also lovely, and they were happy for me to sit there and do some work (with the good WiFi!)
Looking forward to a return visit already.
S. C.
Amazing place. A real gem in a lovely area of town. Love the homemade selection of cakes and pastries and the best coffee.
J. T.
Great little cafe, perfect for breakfast or lunch. Offers a good range of delicious sandwiches, pastries and salads, but the cakes are just something else. Can get busy around lunch so you might struggle for a seat, but the park is next door and you can take things to go.
K. T.
A lovely coffee shop tucked away in a quiet spot just yards from the city centre shops. The home made cakes and pastries are delicious. There is a lovely friendly atmosphere and a sense that you are part of the family.
S. A.
Very cozy, nice casual atmosphere went with a couple of friends, because it was close to both their accommodation and our university. Good, coffee. Can’t say more cause I only had a quick cup of joe, but would go there again because of the location.
W. B.
First visit and absolutely loved it. Cakes and pastries look and taste amazing!
A. M.
Great cakes and welcoming atmosphere! We loved it!
M. J.
Great café, fresh pastries and delicious coffee. The staff are friendly and polite
R. B.
Visited today with my family (includes two noisy(ish) children). Food amazing & staff were just fantastic! Not just one or two, every staff member today were lovely with nothing too much trouble. I'd highly recommend the home made granola & yog with fresh fruit. Cheese scones - also out of this world!
A. V.
Cute little café with fresh homemade food. Both sweet and savoury things we tried were nice. Great place for a lunch or coffee break with friends or colleagues. It's also conveniently close to the university.
G. G.
Coffee and Cake stop…Takeaway as parking a struggle, but cakes and a coffee are fabulous and the staff are always polite, only real cakes in town
L. M.
Popped in for a treat before an appointment. The flat white was lovely and my strawberry paris- breast was delicious. I will be returning!
T. P.
Always impressed with this place; their coffee is fantastic, significantly better than the quality from the larger chains. Snacks and sandwiches are great, and the staff are really lovely. Not too pricey, either.
L. R.
Love this place!! The pastries are so good😍 and delicious coffee.
Lovely people, will definitely go back! …
A. S.
Lovely! Could tell everything was freshly baked :)
D. E.
Only had coffee and a scone, but definitely the best cheese scone I have tasted. Lunches looked really good too and wholesome. Will be back to try some of the delicious looking cakes.
e. “. G.
A real hidden gem! .....I took my mother here after visiting the RVI, as I avoid Costa shops like the plague, and we were not disappointed!
Espresso. 💯👌🏻
I’m not really one for cakes but could not resist the RaspberryTart. 😗👌🏻
Relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff; would highly recommend to anyone. 5️⃣⭐️

Great little cafe...not big.. so you need to get there early. No bacon and eggs but tasty breakfasts and bites are available. They also do fab cakes. You can even commission o e for that special occasion
T. M.
Very nice and cosy little cafe. Went here for breakfast and had wonderful homemade pastries and coffee. The people working here are extemely nice and helpful. They also offer take out, in case it gets too crowded. Definitely recommend to go here even if it is not directly on your way.
W. C.
Superb value, outstanding food and truly wonderful staff. This little jewel is the best foodie find we have made in many years; maybe ever! Oh! And nowhere we have visited serves a better coffee!
L. F. P.
This is one of my favourite places for coffee in Newcastle city centre. The atmosphere is great, they have tables outside and the staff is very friendly. Highly recommended.
I. P.
Dropped in by chance at the weekend as it was handy and was really impressed. Staff great, good menu selection, nice coffee and amazing looking cakes, which sadly we didn't get chance to try as we were in a hurry - save that for next time!
D. N. K.
My favourite cafe in the UK, coming there each time I am in Newcastle. Croissants and granola are the best in the breed! Many thanks to the team for the care.
D. B.
Nice place, a little bit small and can be quite busy. Had a Paris-Brest, which is my favourite patisserie in France. Would give it a 8/10.

Nice food and quiet. A break from in town café. Small inside so not a lot of seating but that's the beauty of this place... No crowds. There is also seating outside if the weather is good.

A really good little cafe with a great menu. Within close reach of the RVI I usually come here rather than go to what's on offer in the RVI. I'd recommend the homemade soups, that's what I always opt for.

Quaint little cafe just outside the centre of town but close to St. James’ Park. No speciality coffees unfortunately but the Americano was still good.
P. F.
The toilets in the park are closed and just £ 2.20 for a coffee makes these the best value alternative, unless you pretend to be a patient at the university hospital.
A. T.

If you want to come here either be prepared to wait for a seat or be prepared to cram yourself in to a corner - the cafe is tiny, but the food and coffee is to die for. Came for breakfast - apple and cinnamon croissant, almond croissant and two lattes - and everything was so fresh and tasty. We also took some cake to go, and that was still good the following day.
A. N.
The atmosphere is really nice, and the place is cozy. Delicious bakery and great coffee.
Staff are very welcoming and friendly.

(Translated) Good place cafe in a hidden place. It is always busy. The design in the shop is based on white and makes you feel Scandinavian. Granola and sweets are delicious. I can take my pet. You can also order cakes.

(Translated) Fabulous pastry, ideal for breakfast.
It has good coffee, even by Spanish standards.
Small and cute (the bathroom is tiny), and in a quiet semi-pedestrian street very close to the universities.
It has the added value of opening early on weekdays.
Tip for curious travelers: forget about their fabulous pastries and dare to order the very British porridge for breakfast.
(Original)
