We dropped in on Sunday when it was ‘Pay as You Feel’. Magic Hat is unique in two respects:
1. They perform well in terms of their social responsibility (dealing with the problem of food waste); and
2. They really serve good food. For example, I had eggs, halloumi and beetroot and it was such a delicious dish.
3. Especially at weekends, you will have great experience (when you, and only you, determine the price you pay).
Definitely, I will come again.

An amazing place with an amazing mission! Magic hat provides a contemporary, exciting modern environment with top quality, well considered food - all whilst working towards combating food waste by using local produce that would otherwise expire and be thrown out! This place is truly special, a great forward thinking hangout to eat/drink coffee with friends! I cannot recommend it highly enough.

By far my favourite place to spend time in Newcastle! A weekly changing menu fueled by surplus food keeps each option exciting, while thought and care is put into the flavour and delivery of each plate. Highly recommend!

Zero waste. Pay as you feel (weekends). Restaurant quality food made by chefs. What's not to love? So good. I have been telling everyone. We need to tackle food waste and this is just ONE of the many solutions.

What's not to be loved when the food you're buying involves great ethics?
🗑️Zero food waste - ingredients that would have gone to the bin are used here to skilfully prepare culinary delights!
There's even 'Pay-as-you-FEEL' weekends, where NO there are no set prices for the food served. Use money, or even TIME through volunteering.
The concepts are catchy, and it's truly something to embrace heartily.
🙆♂️Service here is great. It was a busy Sunday afternoon with customers already forming a line; we were served with smiles and enthusiasm! The interior is nicely designed with a minimalistic touch. Pictures revolving around the theme of Zero Waste hang on the walls.
The cuisine here is DELICIOUS.
🐟Whole Roast Seabass - salted to perfection, it was literally a whole seabass roasted in the oven, and served with potatoes and zhug.
🥩Lamb Koftas - juicy and succulent pieces of lamb, perfectly complemented by cucumbers and pickles.
🍝Pasta (Penne with tomato base) - this was most unique to me. Seasoned just right, with ?pine-nuts giving it a fresh taste.
I love the concept here, and it's something I'd definitely come for again!
*There's even a Pay as you Feel 'marketplace' just outside!

Not very happy with the food. There was a smell of burning fat when we entered. When my meal arrived I found out why. Seriously over cooked, partly burnt. When I mentioned this they deducted a drink from the bill. My partner's chicken was good. The staff were nice

My favourite place literally ever, I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience here! The food is always so tasty, the portions are well-sized and the staff are all so sweet!

Fantastic new cafe in the ♥️ of Newcastle.
Great place to grab a coffee and watch the world go by, pop in with a laptop and get some work done or sit down for a lunchtime meal with friends.
Food quality is superb, inventive and delicious. The menu changes regularly depending on the food that's been saved, meaning there's always something new to try! They have a good selection of meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes. Paired with a tasty selection of drinks and excellent quality of coffee.
Prices are excellent and weekends offer a pay as you feel system, letting you value the food.
The bonus is all the food has been saved from landfill, so you're helping the planet as well as feeding yourself, perfect!

Delicious food, lovely staff and you get to feel like you are helping the environment. What's not to love? I had a vegetarian main and starter and it was really tasty. My friends had lamb and they said it tasted great. The venue has a really nice, minimalist atmosphere. Oh and the toilets were really clean, even at the end of a busy night.

Only been here for a coffee. Flat white was lovely, service was friendly, and from the look fo their menu, they cater for everyone, and passionate about reducing food waste. What is not to like huh?
Update: we came back for food - it was magical.
