Reviews of Pink Lane Coffee
K. S. A.
Though not the best independent in Newcastle, they serve decent coffee (a relatively small cup in fact) and cakes. Their location next to the train station is also an advantage.
Ps: A good spot to some works - the bar is not perfect to work on your laptop or read a book.
R. S.
I ordered one of their bagette sandwiches and the filling was rather meagre. Coffee was good, but again, it came in a trendy, small glass on a cork dish. I was expecting something more for my lunch...
So, it was just ok...
A. B.
Great place with good coffee. Tried flat white, hot chocolate and cake.
A. M.
Good coffee, lovely venue, friendly staff. Bought a bag of beans to use at home as this company also roasts their own beans
A. A.
Really good little cafe. Plenty of seats, plenty of options for food & drinks. I only had a coffee here but I could tell by the smell that everything else was pretty good. Recommended

Passed this place, so many times - decided to call in, for lunch, with my son on Saturday. It's not a very big place and it was busy but we managed to get a little table, at the top end. Menu very much tailored for Vegans, although there are choices for the non-Vegans. My son's ham and cheese sandwich was packed with extra goodies. I had a basic peanut and banana toastie - quite unusual for a coffee shop but, still, very tasty. Cappuccino coffee is divine! Service very quick and staff sooo nice. Only downside: the loo cubicle accesses directly from the coffee shop. Time and time again, because customers didn't shut the door on leaving, we were eating with a prime view of the loo. PLEASE shut the door!!
C. P.
Great coffee at the perfect temperature. Super clean and lots of space . Lovely vibe too .
D. M.
Aesthetic coffee shop with plenty of seating inside. They roast their own beans; although my picture contains a flat white my wife had a pour over with their Ethiopia beans which was delicious - very little bitterness and lovely fruity notes.
J. C.
Super friendly baristas, lovely roasted coffee and a nice place to sit and chat with friends. Tucked away in a little side corner, this is a must visit.
R. H.
Very busy due to location, coffee was a dam good blend, plenty of character. Also the lemon cake actually tasted of lemons, a simple task most places seen unable to achieve! Ok a few downsides, price is very high but that's due to location. You pay what they can get away with, not what it's worth. And size of coffee was tiny, even a latte was like a toddler portion. Anyway if I was flush with cash id pop in maybe as the coffee was very tasty blend.
F. V.
All fine and kind staff. However, the latte was small and the lightning and music was distracting
L. K.
Great little cafe just across the road from train station. Good selection of coffees/tea and food options. It's a nice place to grab a bike with you friends or to escape the office for a moment and do some work in a friendly, buzzing environment! The staff is very friendly and attentive.
C. M.
Very happy to find great coffee near the station in Newcastle. If you are into coffees then definitely check out the pour overs. Made with care and speciality beans, perfectly roasted. Too many places passing off cheap/old coffee as 'speciality roasts' but that's not the case here. I also took a vegan tofu and chickpea wrap which was delicious. Highly recommended.
A. j.
It's good 🌟
A. Z.
Wonderful service and everything we had was so tasty (even went back for seconds of the filter). It's refreshing to see somewhere take pride on where they source their produce and offer vegan options!
The only downside, the music wasn't my taste haha can't please everyone there
A.
Pretty much every time I have to take a train from Newcastle Central I head through an hour early so I can sit in here for a coffee. Good local coffee roaster, and lovely space and staff.
A. L.
Nice selection of cakes. Love the vibe there. The price was friendly, as well as the cafe staff.
T. V.
Beautiful little café - easy to miss, tucked just away from the main street. Very friendly service, and the espresso is delicious. They also have some coffee filters/pour-overs and beans available.
C. G. N.
Really cute place to enjoy bakery and good coffee. Right on the city centre. 100% recommended
R. i.
Top coffee, service and sandos! Happy 10 year anniversary!
M. C.
Good coffee, good cakes. Good spot to do some work.
A.
one of the best coffee shops in town. staff are always friendly and know their stuff, and the coffee is always great. handy location too, being opposite the train station. a must try if in the area
J. S.
Wow what a lovely cuppa coffee I'm not one for drinking coffee out as it's always so bitter but this Americano was so nice I even bought their coffee beans to make my own at home my friend had a flat white and got her husband another to take out
B. H.
Great flat white and excellent tea. Didn't try anything else as it was closing 15 minutes after we got there. Was able to sit outside for the few minutes before they closed. Very friendly staff. Will be back to sit in someday, soon!
K. K. (.
An absolutely lovely and welcoming independent coffee shop. Very clean and super friendly. Coffee was the best we have ever tasted. Delicious breakfast- we had yoghurt and berries plus the avocado on toast. Highly recommend. We will be back !
D. B.
great coffee and nice food selection, wish i could visit more often
S. v. d. B.
Brilliant coffee and great pastries, excellent independent coffee shop
J. B.
Great place to enjoy quality coffee and cake before or after a train adventure
A. A.
Wonderful and cosy cafe with third wave coffee roaster!
D. D.
Had tea and the salami sandwich. Both excellent along with the service.
G. R.
Great coffee, great service. When you order a coffee, they let you choose between different types of beans, which is absolutely amazing.
H. P.
Love it here. Nice coffee. Lovely cake. Excellent service.
R. B.
Lovely little place tucked away near Central Station. Good coffee and fast WiFi!
N. C.
The coffee is fantastic! Haven't had any of the pastries but they looked fab and were extremely tempting. Overall vibe is great so it's good for socialising, but not the best option to come & do work because the tables and chairs are super uncomfortable and shaky.
강.
Been here a few times lately and it's very conveniently located. Coffee is excellent. Tables and chairs are a nightmare. Too small and a bit rickety. Lighting is a bit funny down the back Relaxed place to sit and read or watch the world go by. Had a very refreshing cold coffee. Looking forward to returning to try the cakes. They look very tasty.
I. G.
I really enjoyed my time here. I visited Newcastle for a day. Before my train, I had my hot chocolate here and loved it! Staff are so friendly and kind! It is just in front of the train station. You can have your drink before your train😊
L. S.
Cold brew coffee is very strong and very tasty and the salted caramel brownies may just be the best ones I have ever had. They are literally like liquid brownie.
The staff here are really pleasant too and the building itself is very nice.
Great place to go for a quick coffee if you're around central station.
A. b.
Great coffee. Another to revisit on next trip here
S. C.
Best coffee in Newcastle! Amazing food, loads of art to see. Staff are great :)
- literally only 1 issue- no gluten free bread. Very small issue considering how lovely it is to be there and all the other options!! Xx
E. A. D.
The staff were really nice and friendly! I ordered a hot chocolate but it was a little cold and I asked if they could heat it! And they made another hot chocolate for me. It's a really nice place for having a cup of hot chocolate!
S. A. R.
Absolutely lovely place to just relax or meet a friend to chat. I'm not exegerarting when I say that they have the best white hot chocolate that I have tried in all my life. The only negative I can think of is that both my friend and I were stopped and called back to pay when we were leaving.
We already paid as we were ordering and although it wasn't a big deal, it was still a bit embarrassing to get called out in front everyone like that.
D. W.
The Pink Lane Cafe compares favorably to any independent coffee shop in London. Anthony roasts his own richly-flavored, chocolate-y, non-acidic beans, and locally sources the components for his delicious food. The space itself is as cute as a button, with ample seating. Spending an hour here was a highlight of our visit to the city center.
R.
Great coffee and friendly service.
j. e.
To be honest it's not my kind of place. It looks great. The staff seemed friendly though they did forget my order. The tasting notes seem quite accurate, but those flavours were all I could taste, I couldn't taste coffee though, which is what I want, and it was small but the size as advertised (I don't understand FL Oz.'s). I'm glad I went but I won't be going back.
R. S.
The three of us had three different filters and enjoyed comparing the tastes. Some of the nicest coffee I've ever had. Extremely knowledgeable barista. Smashing vegan wrap too. Awesome!
J. T.
Great coffee, great service .
K.
Very cool coffee shop. Right by central station. Great choice of drinks. Sit in or take away. Solid coffee, location, cafe and staff.
Sometimes the staff don’t seem interested in you being there. Maybe they need coffee. Other times they are so chatty and friendly.
B. S.
Cosy independent cafe serving up a nice selection of drinks and snacks. Spotlessly clean, lovely staff and good indoor seating areas.
A. S.
decent coffee, easy to find opposite the station!!
M. F.
Local coffee artisan shop. They take the coffee seriously and have a rather special (if limited) support collection of cakes. Prices are a bit top end, but I'd rather pay coffee enthusiasts than Starbucks. They seem to have a great selection of teas too. It's hipster, tucked away just on the edge of Pink Lane, just across from the station. I'd recommended you give it a try. The take out coffee is a bit small but very special.
C. C.
Delicious coffee, friendly staff, never pass an independent without stopping, you won't be disappointed.
C. A.
Nice place to stop for lunch. The food was really nice but unfortunately the hot chocolates and coffees we had were poor.
L.
Great selection of coffees (I hear the teas are OK too but have never tried them), usually quiet, chilled out atmosphere. Nice place to come and get some work done. The wifi doesn't always work but if theirs is down you can usually still get signal from one of the nearby Cloud hotspost.
J. F.
Nice and warm. Great variety in breakfast.
C. H.
Canny little cafe tucked just off the beaten track. Staff are always friendly, they bring your drink to you which is a nicety. White hot chocolate is lovely on a cold day. It is a little small, but this makes it a sweet gem.
A. R.
Great cafe. Good coffee. I like that they know their stuff about the beans, the regions and tasting notes. You can't go past a plant-made recyclable take away cup either.
I. D.
One of the most exquisite Flat White's in my whole coffee-addiction. Very friendly staff, smaller coffeeshop but cozy atmosphere. The Avocado in Toast with Feta and Rockets are to be recommended :)
O. M.
Nice variety of great food; friendly staff; Peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
S. J.
Probably best coffee shop in Newcastle and a must for coffee aficionados. They get some of the best beans in town and spend a lot of time making sure their supplier roast them correctly. Great chilled atmosphere and free Wi-Fi.
k. c.
Been going to Pink Lane for so many years now and although the faces change over the years the service is still great and the produce the best in the area. Love the coffee, sandwiches and of course the cakes! Always make sure I pop in if I'm in town.
D. L.
One of the best coffee shops in Newcastle. Very quirky set up and great for both studying or socialising. Delicious coffee and sandwiches and staff are always friendly. Recommend!
C. A.
Fantastic coffee shop! Proper filter coffee with some lovely blends, the food is also superb. Very reasonably priced for the quality, will certainly be coming here again.
A. P. (.
Really nice little coffee shop, the perfect place to get a coffee before or after your train. Their chapatas are lovely. It's a little bit more pricey that I would like but it's understandable given location and quality
B. B.
Great looking place. Friendly staff and good location right next to the train station. Opening times are great for that early coffee run. They do Almond and Soy which is a awesome and the coffee was pretty dam good.
A. M.
Lovely English Breakfast and lemon cake just when I needed it! A trendy cafe, tucked into the beginning of Pink Lane, on the other side of the road (opposite) to entrance to Central Station. Very popular at 3.30 in the afternoon. Might drop in again...
C. S.
This cosy cafe is situated super close to the main train station so you can pop in as soon as you get to Newcastle! They roast their coffee beans in store, and make great coffee. Have a good amount of space inside and one table outside. Great place for a break!
H. T.
Lovely, casual coffee shop. Focus on specialty coffee and brewing techniques without an ego.
I had a wonderful espresso. Home roasted beans.
Defiantly my choice coffee shop when visit Newcastle.
J. M.
Good range of coffees. Limited, but excellent range of toasties. Loved the pastrami, mustard, red cabbage, gherkin, and emmental toastie. Extensive cake options. Upcycled and re-used furnishings create excellent effect in keeping with the shop's location.
T. H.
Honestly the best coffee in Newcastle, keep trying different coffees and each one is spectacular! Really professional staff too made it feel safe
S. M.
Salted caramel brownie is divine. Really like this place. Totally not a crappy chain, like Starbucks. Coffee is a bit 'burned' which I like but my friend doesn't - even at half-strength.
M. P.
A very refreshing atmosphere and an aesthetically pleasing interior, good for students to study in. The food and drinks are very high quality and healthy. Worth the visit. We’ll definitely be coming back again!!
O. B.
The best coffee in Newcastle, served by knowledgeable staff in a friendly atmosphere. They generally have three coffees, from roasteries such as Extract and Round Hill, available on the slow bar and another couple for espresso-based drinks. They also have a range of teas and hot chocolates available too, if that's your thing.
F. R.
Coffee is brilliant quality, atmosphere is calm and engaging. Staff are all very friendly. Shabby sheeq feel, very relaxing to chill. However, servings are slightly on the small side.
J. S.
I got the whole grain wrap with sweet potato pakora, spinach, hummus and cous cous for takeaway Saturday and for £4.20 was quite pleased with the portion and taste. It also came with a chili sauce on the side and the spice was a perfect compliment to the sweet potato. Even my meateating husband was satisfied! Like someone else said though the staff wasn’t the friendliest, which I was surprised at, considering most of those I have encountered in Newcastle have been friendly.
T. L. L. R.
Always have a few varieties on the go at once, especially those that are a bit different to your usual coffee. I always have the pastrami sandwich. Hot chocolates are great too!
P. H.
Fantastic speciality coffee - had a gorgeous Kenyan filter, very nicely brewed - and a good selection of cakes and pastries. Nice atmosphere.
S. W.
Coffee is always amazing; well looked after, brewed, served, etc. The Salted Caramel Brownie is the most amazing brownie I've ever tasted. Gooey to the max. Follow them on Spotify for canny tunes too.
C.
Coffee is really nice here. They always have a variety of different flavours which changes frequently. Also very cosy and pretty, great place for a chat or a break.
G. W.
I admit to feeling a little out of place here as it seemed to be largely full of 20 somethings. Decor is a tad shabby so if that will annoy you try somewhere else. Coffee is nice and beautifully presented, service is friendly and the location handy.
g. s.
Nice friendly place great coffee, bigger handles on cups would be great but no problem, little family place but just as good as the other giants of coffee so go here instead I found it a great place.
H. S.
best little cafe in Newcastle. Strong, tasty coffee. No comparison to Starbucks/Costa/Café nero etc. Loads of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free wraps/paninis/sandwiches. They also sell art which is displayed on the café walls.
G. W.
Often have meetings in here with my clients. It has a great vibe and just seems to be a really relaxing place to have a coffee and do some work. Wifi is speedy too which is always a good thing
A. P.
Quality coffee, and the filter coffee is hand made to order. The atmosphere is great and our barista was very knowledgeable about the origins and qualities of the beans.
D. H. B.
Fantastic coffee. Friendly staff and comfy seating. The kind of cafe you could sit in all day doing some work. Best coffee I have had in Newcastle.
T. J.
Although other people say Pink Lane's coffees are overpriced and small, I totally disagree. I work in the coffee industry and believe their coffees are typically of a very high standard and the prices are fair. However, the two women working when we went in could use some training. The one that served us explained the two espressos backward which caused confusion, then she served me a curdled soya coffee twice, which shouldn't happen if you know what you are doing, and shouldn't have been served. (If you're reading this, try pouring the milk into the espresso, rather than the reverse!)
That can be overlooked though as maybe she is new and soy milk is not the most popular order and difficult to work with. I did eventually get a tasty coffee, but we had to listen to the other woman shout across the cafe about her lost bank card the entire time we were there. That was definitely more aggravating than the coffee problems and we left as soon as we could.
It was so great last time we were in a couple years ago, really unfortunate to see them slipping.
S.
Lovely coffee shop with great service and food. I recommend.
D. S.
Lovely little coffee shop. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Better coffee than Starbucks by miles!
H. S.
White hot chocolate was to die for. Lovely place and bigger than you'd think from the outside. Very convenient independent for the train station.
C. J.
Some of the best coffee in Newcastle. Enjoy the choice of filters, if you can. Good cake, and a nice place to sit.
c. s.
Really nice place. Good 3rd wave cafe although the brewed coffee can sometimes taste a little weak. Good cakes too.
P. B.
This is a great coffee shop, but they appear to use cheap soy milk instead of barrista soy milk, so it curdles when added to coffee. If you don't drink milk, opt for a black coffee.
H. A.
The coffee here is sublime. If you're ever at the train station and need a caffeine fix, skip past the chains and cross the road to Pink Lane.
H. L.
This place is so amazing. Comfortable service and nice coffee. The location is also great just in front of the train station.
C. ". H.
Amazing place and the manager spent a lot of time explaining the various beans and the way in which they brew their coffee. Tasted amazing and the cakes are devine too!
t. h.
Great coffee, very friendly atmosphere. I haven’t tried the food yet but the menu sounds delicious
L. T.
I had a freshly toasted cinnamon and raisin bagel, excellent presentation, the staff were extremely helpful when I asked for it without peanut butter and only jam, an excellent cafe overall
A. J.
Amazing hot chocolate, but in all honesty I think I prefer the generic Costa coffee over the specialist stuff. The vegan options are amazing though
E. D.
Lovely coffee shop with excellent coffee and equally excellent cake. I come here every time I'm in Newcastle. Highly recommended
C. B.
One of my favourite coffee spots in Newcastle! Fantastic selection of drinks and snacks; staff are second to none also.
J. L.
Nice café serving special filter coffees. I recommend the Nyamurinda varietal red bourbon filter and the salted caramel brownie.
M. A.
Busy coffee house with shabby chic feel and good quality coffee.
4 stars just because in places it is more shabby than chic.
D. L.
Lovely coffee, However place is a bit cramped. Take out might b a better option
J.
Very nice place! Which impressed the most is the staffs here are so friendly and warm❤️
Recommend this lovely cafe for anyone who enjoy and love coffee!
B. W.
The atmosphere is really nice, the food was really good but the best thing about this place is the coffee. It's the best coffee I have had in years!!!!!!
P. E.
Great independent coffee shop, close to the station. Recommended for take out or sit in - and sells bags of its own roasted beans.
T. A.
Staff always friendly, coffee really good, they can make a proper flat white ,nice atmosphere, never overcrowded ,not saying any more as it will start to get packed if they find out about this jewel in the centre of Newcastle.

Great atmosphere and even better coffee and food. Sadly it's not an accessible venue - would love to be able to visit more often.
L. W.
Lovely food, good coffee and a very chilled unhurried atmosphere. I will be back
K. Y.

Really nice staff and a cracking independent coffee shop. Why give your money to multinational chains when you can support local small businesses
J. B.
Nice coffee shop though pretty expensive. Not particularly family friendly but great for coffee with friends.
D. A.
Bit biased towards it for relationship purposes but I enjoyed the coffee, and as a non-coffee drinker that's saying something. White hot chocolate is to die for.
G. W.

Friendly quirky atmosphere and very good coffee. Worth delaying your rush to the station to gather your strength.
J. C.
Very good coffee, but cappuccino cups small, and latte not much larger, mint tea very good, but quite pricey for Newcastle
A. P.
Nice, relaxed feel and, most importantly, some of the best coffee you'll find in Newcastle.
L. P.
Coffee is good but service is slow and staff have no interaction

Nice little cafe which was recommended to me by another cafe!
There seems to be a lack of cafes in the area around the central station where you can just sit with a coffee and watch the world go by, so this was a good find.

(Translated) Small sweet coffee.
You can find it across from the train station and the coffee and side dishes are delicious. You can also sit there great and the staff is very courteous. When I picked up my "Coffee Take Away" I found out that you can also buy the coffee in a shop, but unfortunately it was too late.

(Translated) The coffee you ordered did not meet Dutch coffee. You must be aware that it is actually fair trade and with specular flavors

De koffie die je bestelde voldeed niet aan de nederlandse koffie. Je moet je er bewust van zijn dat het eigenlijk fairetrade is en met specuale smaken

(Translated) Good coffee but a little bit for the price. The cafe is very comfortably furnished. Unfortunately almost all cafes here in Newcastle are only open until 6 p.m., which is why we took our coffee with us. Every coffee lover should visit this place when in Newcastle.
(Original)
