Reviews of The Blacksmiths Coffee Shop
S. A. L.
Lovely little coffee shop serving decent range of food and drinks.
Soup and a scone was delicious but cake a little dry however nice to see they have Barista Oatly milk on offer. Definitely worth a visit
J. A.
Fabulous lunch of quiche and salad followed by cream scone.
Staff pleasant and helpful. Will certainly return.
D. D.
Great little coffee shop with some great cakes. Real shame they seemed to have no biscuits, nor any real sugar-free or low sugar options with my coffee.
A. T.
Staff are always so welcoming & friendly. Place is clean and airy, food is all freshly prepared. What's not to like!! <3
d. m.
Staff really pleasant , great jacket potatoes and good size portions. Reasonable prices and always a pleasant atmosphere in here.
L. S.
Friendly staff, beautiful food..and most importantly for me gluten free available..wish there was more cake options for gluten free..please xxx
A. M.
Went for a cup of tea...pleasant surroundings.....more than enough tea for 3 in the pot plus pot of hot water.
C. L.
Enjoyed a ham salad and poached eggs today. Plenty of ham, coleslaw was lovely and creamy, tomato chutney was really tasty, poached eggs cooked to perfection. Absolutely no complaints will be calling in again.
k. w.
nice place very civilised been going for 20 years or so there is one at Belsay as well again very nice

Great for a relaxing break with a good choice of food and drink, and a small selection of other shops to browse.
S. L.
Absolutely wonderful! We arrived at opening time and within the hour the place was at full capacity! We had cherry scones with cream and jam and it was delicious. The service was efficient and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and if we're ever back in the area we'll come back!

Went to this venue on Saturday 5th Feb.....first impressions were that it's seems popular as was full and had to find a table in the back part of the coffee shop which seemed to resemble a bit of a small school dining hall and didn't fit in with the ambience of the rest of the establishment....on entering there seemed to be a lack of someone clearing the tables as the two or three that were vacant still hadn't been cleared and had to do it ourselves....
Apart from eating experience quite liked the whole venue with it shops etc and will probably visit again as it's local but not on a weekend.....
Just my personal experience on the day but like I said seems very popular and could have been a off day....

Lovely place for a quality lunch at a affordable price
D. R.
A very good choice of sandwiches and light lunches.Excellent tray bakes and cakes.Good venue for morning coffee or lunch.Service is good, you do not wait very long, they do not take reservations but fortunately we have always managed to get a table.Staff are very good they go the extra mile!

First visit but will certainly return. Lovely selection of scones and cakes, served with good hot coffee, by friendly helpful staff.
J. D.
The cherry scone was disappointing not upto the usual standard
G. S.
Food always good. We enjoyed quiche and salad - lovely
S. M.
Great venue with helpful staff. Could do with a bit more variety in the Soup of the day Menu choice, seems choice is limited to Vegetable.
P. C.
Lovely place, very good staff. The food is great too. Recommend the cheese and bacon scones.
S. F.
Lovely place to eat & catch up with friends. Had delicious home made soup with a scone & coffee with cream, followed by delicious home made toffee cake. Highly recommend. Very reasonably priced. Very busy popular place so get here early. Lovely shops around this area too.
R. H.
Relaxed but always busy. Decent food with generous portions. And all of the pre baked cakes are made locally at their other premises. You can see into the clean tidy kitchen area from the main counter and all staff were pleasant and helpful. Good honest food and nice setting. Top marks.
J. N.
This is an excellent coffee shop with excellent snack foods and scrumptious home made cakes . Up until 12 am they do bacon sandwiches . It is extremely popular with the public therefore always busy especially around lunch time there is outdoor seating for fine weather but certainly worth the wait 🙃😺the staff are all very helpful and friendly .
L. M.
Lovely cafe, I had the cheese scone which I enjoyed. The menu selection was limited as they had ran out of ham (a lot of the menu included ham) however we still enjoyed what we had. The staff were lovely, especially with my little boy.
A. S.
Very nice lunch very busy place on a wednesday
m. s.
Got there for it openin at 10 am constant flow of customers till we left at 12.30.really enjoyed the cheese scone .dissapointed that u can get a free refill of coffee but those who have decaf have to pay..
K. C.
If you haven’t tried the bacon and egg pie or lemon meringue pie you haven’t lived! Absolutely terrific
N. B.
Enjoyable, relaxing experience. Scones were delightful, staff friendly & we enjoyed browsing the shops in the courtyard afterwards.
M. H.
Nice coffee shop with an excellent range of sandwiches, panini's, quiches &c. Delicious cakes and sweets. Set in the middle of The Milkhope Centre with cookware shop, butcher, baker, and candle-- no, sorry, and an excellent Blagdon Art Gallery. Coping well with Covid and Service with a Smile
P. A.
Bit echoy (if that's a word) and noisey. Not really relaxing for a coffee. Plastic hard seats too so not that comfortable. It's OK.
J. W.
Always busy, good choice but things do sell out, even fairly early in the day (1pm) you can be disappointed. Tasty food, around £5-6 for a main meal/sandwich, slightly less for cake. Drinks around £3.
H. S.
Really delicious lunch, amazing open smoked salmon sandwich with cream cheese, very generous amount of salmon, excellent value.
S. S.
Brilliant. Lovely gluten free (GF) options and amazing service. Needless to say they got a tip
P. G.

Great coffee shop in old farm buildings with nice range of home baked food. Located within Milkhope Centre on the Blagdon Estate. Easy access from A1. Often busy, now has outdoor seating area, too. Popular bike stop.

J. P.
This is a fabulous cafe, offering delicious food and a warm welcome - probably one of the best cafes around.
It is always popular so allow time for your visit!
G. H.
A could be anywhere sort of place. Generic food and drink, bland modern furnishing and the obligatory exposed stonework to remind you that it is an old building. The food and service was OK but nothing memorable. Was very busy at lunchtime.
G. S.
Great food & snacks .
The staff are great & coffe is even better 👌 …
D. R.
Lovely freshly cooked food and very nice staff most of them recognise you again which is very pleasant

Nice building and staff were friendly. However, for two toasties, coffee and soft drink came to £23.00 quite expensive.
L. P.
