We were sat downstairs which was very cozy and comfortable. Great service. Both got the pulled beef sandwich (pictured) it was incredible! So juicy, tender and delicious, came with yummy potatoes and a lovely salad. It was well worth the price, great price. Got the Christmas tea (in April) and it was so fruity, comforting and yummy, really recommend it. The homemade baked cheesecake was yummy also. Fully recommend this place for food and a huge selection of teas. Very cozy and relaxed place.

Such a cosy wee place! I loved spending time there on my last trip to Newcastle. Such a wide range of gorgeous teas available and they brew them for you! You never have to worry about your tea being to strong or too weak.
The decor instead is beautiful and it has such a calm and relaxed atmosphere. I can't wait to go back

Oooh lovely place for cup (or a few cups) of tea. They have over 60 different teas, differently flavoured. Some have a strong smell, some have a strong taste, some have both. Reading the menu takes so long because they have detailed descriptions of the teas. This place is usually crowded, enough to make you wait for some time. Which is totally worth it after you try the tea.
I tried At least 7 teas and loved the jasmine and hazelnut/vanilla tea.
Definitely visit this place if you're in Newcastle.

This is such a cute little shop. It’s great to sit down with friends and just chat. The ambience and decor is so lovely. The food is really good, I especially enjoyed having breakfast here. Although it can get a little crowded sometimes; depends on when you go
K.
Great little shop near the centre of town. Fantastic space with lots of light. They have a huge selection of tea. However if you want Coffee, food or cold drinks they have quite the selection. I had pancakes and they were cooked perfectly. The toppings so fresh and delicious. I left full to the brim with some left. What you want when you are having pancakes.
Went on a Sunday. There is a line for them to be open but they weren’t insanely packed where we waited for a table.
Highly recommend this place

This place is the most important part of Newcastle for me. They always offer a variety of fresh pastries, cakes and scones, which are all amazing. Specifically I suggest the carrot cake and their scones. They also have a large assortment of teas (their caramel cup is my favorite tea among all the teas I've ever had). They even have some fresh meals around noon, which are absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough, but if you pass Newcastle you have to visit Quilliam Brothers.

By far the best vegan meal I had in Newcastle. Had vegan scone and vegan margarine spread for it, and the tea was absolutely amazing. They also had an adorable collection of postcards, and a local artist exhibition in the basement. Staff will seat you and then you pay at the counter when done. An extensive and well described tea menu.

Super cute little shop, the teas are delicious and the cakes are to die for. Nice atmosphere both upstairs and downstairs, really chill downstairs and a bit livelier upstairs. Ramped, so potentially accessible if furniture was moved slightly. A really lovely find. (The cake was too good to nibble before I got the chance for a photo!)
f.
I previously left a 5* review, however I’m very unimpressed since the takeover. The new choice of cake is poor. The salted caramel brownie was solid, and the carrot cake was very sickly with a bit too much of a crunch to it considering its a cake. The place seems to have lost some of its charm and feels bare now- the shelves where customers can buy things are often unstocked.
A positive- the staff are lovely and deserve all the praise.

Is it wrong to go somewhere called The Tea House and only drink coffee?
This quaint cafe has a bible of tea, fantastic baked cakes and (the pièce de résistance) their very own private underground cinema! We stopped by whilst on a weekend trip to Newcastle and sat in the beautiful downstairs section of the cafe for a little brunch. We ended up opting for the full English breakfast and a couple of coffees, both of which were brilliant. We would definitely go back again!
A. O.
Very tasty food..made with love...
Very huge portions! A bit expensive.
Busy staff...
Interesting design... furniture... lights... Not for everyone.
But thank you for my breakfast.
S. S.
Beautiful and generously portioned Eggs Benedict was great value for money. I unconventionally opted for coffee in this teahouse and it was extremely good! I will be returning.
A. A.
Amazing and quirky tea house. Plethora of tea choises and cakes. Havent had any savoury but everything I ordered was delicious. Very busy but the service is quick and polite. A must visit place.
A. H.
In love with this place!
Perfect if you’re not a coffee fan! Excellent if you love tea! So cosy inside, a excellent menu, lots to choice from!
In the heart of newcastle. Cup of tea with a scones or slice of cake!
N. H.
I love scones... I especially love savory scones and I also adore a good tea. So this place should be right up my street. However I have to balance this out with the waiting time for a seat which can be anything from 20 mins to 50 and then as I found out on my second visit can even mean being placed under the stairs on the floor. Yes you read correctly. A coffee table and some pillows under the stairs constitutes a wait of 20 mins. The food is indeed nice and I do love a Newcastle stottie and make sure to have one every time I visit and with a soup and toasted it's amazing. They also do a variety of other fillings/toppings including a rarebit which again is lovely and always gets a salad on the side. I have also seen the pancakes which look yummy and the eggs royale was particularly nice. Finally price I would say reasonable and if you have that student discount even better. It's an experience I think everyone should try just don't go when your starving as you will be waiting and apparently you should specify I want a chair and not eat like harry potter buy other than that give it a go.
S. P.
Excellent scones and leaf tea with plenty of choice. Busy place near university. Friendly team.
L. G.
Friendly relaxed atmosphere, fantastic range of teas, and gorgeous food
J. S.
Love this place! I've walked past it a number of times and liked the quirky look so decided to give it a go. I was not disappointed. The food is fantastic. I had the veggie breakfast and loved it. I ordered a coffee (which I thought would be sacrilege as it's a teahouse) but it was great. The vibe is very relaxed and welcoming. I highly recommend it for a cuppa and some great tasting food.
C. G. M.
Amazing place. Delicious breakfast, sourdough bread.. completely recommended.
L. S.
Very good range of teas, coffees and other hot drinks. Was quite busy when we attended but staff were still very helpful and accomadating. They also had a wide range of baked goods including vegan and gluten free options.
H. Y. C.
Always enjoy the range of fruit teas there and their hospitality service. Although it might be a half an hour wait at peak hours, still worth the wait and have a nice time enjoying the cakes or a proper meal at the location. Sometimes during evening, their tiny but cozy cinema space offer free movies to watch. Some board games also provided upon request. Quite a wide choices of fun there and definitely a great space to hang out with a group of friends.
I keep revisiting the area from time to time, as the prices are reasonable too.
D. L.
Incredible selection of teas, with some lovely descriptions for each one. Cakes are delicious. But the clincher is the environment. Really lovely place to hang out, with upstairs being nice and open and downstairs being warm and cosy. Haven't tried yet, but I hear their film nights are also great to go along to!
M. F.
Beautiful tea house with great coffee too.
Service friendly
Good pastries
Great decor
J. E.
I've only had espressos there, but they have a thick crema and excellent mouth feel with a balanced flavour. Reasonably priced and friendly staff, popular but not difficult to get a seat. Will review again when I've tried the food!
L. P.
A fine establishment! Perfect for intimate catch-ups with friends and loved ones. Wonderful selection of teas and various baked treats. Love be that they close at midnight - offers a solid night out if you fancy something a bit different!
A. W.
This place is a quaint beautifully decorated tea house, with so many teas to chose from there is a book to help you, each tea sectioned into its own category from white all the way to fruit teas.
There is a fantastic selection of pastries and cakes all homemade! And if your a early riser breakfast is served from 8-12 noon for all types vegan, veggie or just plain hungry. This is one of my favourite chill places and to those that don't know of it, it's a hidden away gem.
M. S.
After my first visit I'm tempted to ask whether this is the best tea room in Newcastle. Despite being busy there was room for me at the bar where an extensive menu of specialist teas from around the world tempted me. Not being particularly hungry I chose a cheese scone and Americano. Staff were really friendly and this was a comfortable and enjoyable place to be. Downstairs is a very small cinema and there was an art exhibition on too. Highly recommended.
C. P.
This is a really lovely tea shop which has old fashioned charm but a modern vibe at the same time. There is a great range of teas ( the actual menu book could be renewed ! ) and an explanation about each one . The cakes are delicious - I had the orange one and my friends the carrot cake . Unfortunately we had to wait 45 minutes for our tea and cake which seemed a long time, especially as there was nothing that needed cooking . In spite of this, the service was friendly and professional and we were given an extra slice of cake as an apology . I would definitely recommend.
O.
Busy place, tea is notably better than the food, but the food is ok, hence 4 stars. Tea is great, very good choice, and comes pre brewed and ready to pour so the strength does not alter throughout your brew. Price is very good and I would recommend this place.
(My tea looks pale on the photo because it is earl grey, which is a pale tea when drank with milk)
G. M.
Really good ambiance, European-feel tea house of a kind experience! :)
R.
Amazing place for tea/coffee, snacks....and the best scones in town in my opinion 😊
J. R.
The food is delicious and the variety of tea is incredible! Also the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Couldn't recommend enough. Been a few times now and it doesn't disappoint!
L. H.
Quilliams is just so good. Excellent tea menu, teas served in proper teapots. Good coffee, excellent breakfasts, especially the veggie one, lovely lunches, soups and scones. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Worth the wait as often v busy.
N. B.
Impressive tea room. Great selection of teas, expertly brewed. Main meals are healthy and very tasty. Cakes and pastries available to take away too, well worth a visit but possible wait for tables as it's popular
R. Q.
Huge range of teas, all I've tried so far have been brewed perfectly. Good range of cakes, vegan options also good. Really friendly service with staff who care about their cafe!
A.
Lovely place. Atmospheric. Good for working on laptop, epecially late at night (open until midnight weekdays).
Very broad selection of tea (known for this). I prefer coffee, which was well made. Carrot cake surprisingly good! Go here.
N. B.
Been living in Newcastle for nearly 3 years now and just got introduced to this place. It's a nice cosy little spot with loads of tea options and some food to and is open so late it's great. The staff where lovely, friendly and polite. I had the hazelnut brittle and a orange and walnut scone, I was very satisfied and will definitely be returning :D
S. H.
Thank you so much for your excellent customer care.
I would like to say to the person who so very kindly went well out of his way to take the scones I left behind to an easy to reach location for us. This was 5 mins away from the shop. He helped in this way so willingly. I am very grateful and highly impressed by this kindness.
Increases what was already a good impression of the place.
And now - another lovely visit - chilling out on huge scatter cushions downstairs. We were snuggled under the stairwell making it so cosy and comfortable too. And excellent - and kind - service again. Thank you.
L. E.
Really nice cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and an amazing selection of teas at great prices. A lovely place to warm up from the cold and get out of the rain or meet up with friends. Glad I found this. Can be busy though so you might have to wait but it's worth it.
J. B.
Great amosphere and incredibly good selection of teas. The staff really seemed to know their stuff too, much nicer than an overpriced teabag in a cup! Also a lovely selection of cakes. Will certainly go back next time I'm in Newcastle!
A. A.
Good place for different tea flavors and for those seeking tranquil atmosphere.
J. C.
Brilliant establishment. Offers an extremely large selection of teas. Welcoming and polite staff. Holds a small cinema room that is free during the evenings. Small collection of board games to pass the time. Have been able to spend six hours passing the time drinking tea with no expectation to leave by the staff. Usually a 10-15 minute wait.
A. V.
I have visited the place several times.
The stuff is not polite, most of the times they are surly because of the work I guess. There is also a waiting list in order to be seated which is ok because it doesn’t take long.
The food is delicious however you leave the store and your clothes and jackets smell like cooked.
It’s a really nice place but could be more professional and organized.
L. P.
Great service, unreal selection of teas (Strawberries and cream is my favourite), great concept and cool cinema downstairs along with sofas and some featured artwork. Can be a bit hipster but you can't beat it for what it is, never been anywhere else like it. You can now order the teas that they sell to take away which is great. Love it.
E. O.
Relaxed place for casual food and drinks. Extensive tea menu, the sencha green tea was really nice. The vegan chocolate cake was really tasty too.
B. L.
This has changed hands and is now The Teahouse, with an amazing selection of tea, cakes and scones but now with the added bonus of real food. Great brunches and lunches and better value. Well worth checking out.
S. O.
Only been once but loved the cherry and almond tea i tried. It was a taste sensation. Would definitely go back. A tea house is a great idea and brilliant addition to Newcastle City Centre.
T. R.
Mate, quality food and coffee. Thought it was going to be a a bit pretentious and provide a small amount for the price, however this wasn't the case. Paid a reasonable amount for a good amount of food for breakfast. Quality salmon (like chunky bad boy salmon) and nice coffee. Service was up to par too. Would go back again.
0.
Lychee Delight and Hazelnut, Caramel & White Chocolate Cheesecake - phenomenal!!
E. K.
Update: I stand by everything I said below, if the brothers are in. If not, then the staff can be surly, inattentive and ignorant. If you're going to head down there, go during the day so that you can be sure of an enjoyable experience.
Great selection of teas, very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Family atmosphere with a cheery greeting every time.
They have a small cinema downstairs and a gallery space too. They're open until 1am Monday to Saturday as well!
Go once, I promise that you'll want to go back!
J. R.
Love this place. I make a point of going every time I make a trip to Newcastle. So many new teas to try. The food is good too and the staff are so very pleasant.
Scrabble, Chess and many other games all available too.
I. H.
Vast variety of teas and an excellent food menu (NUS discounts available). The staff were a little persistent when we were there - we were having a conversation and were interrupted several times within a 10 minute period by 4 different staff members to ask whether we're ready to order, but I suppose this is due to the usual pace and demand of the place. Not necessarily somewhere you would while away the afternoon since it can get very crowded due to the proximity to both Newcastle and Northumbria University, unless you find a cushion in the underground vault - no daylight though. The place does movie screenings/small film festivals too, which are a treat. Well worth a visit outside the busy lunchtime hours I would say.
N. B.
Wonderful venue and great selection of drinks, cakes and scones. Every time I have visited it's been very busy (it's a popular place) but the staff have been very helpful and able to seat customers quickly, providing great service throughout the visit.
A. A.
I wouldn’t be exaggerated if I say that this’s my favorite coffee shop in Newcastle. They have amazing tea flavors. You should try their lovely pistachio brownie, it’s the best selling. Definitely I’ll visit them again and again
S. H.
One of the most amazing places I've found in newcastle! Lovely relaxed atmosphere, incredible tea.. If you think all tea needs milk try some of their incredible first flush black teas.. This place is topped off by some really lovey staff! Not to be missed!
M. M.
Honestly the best cappacino I've had in ages.
Usually places like Costa or Starbucks muck it up and make it wayyyyy too foamy, to the point where you're buying half a puddle piss and half overheated breast milk but this place got it spot on.
Not too frothy but thick enough to be like a layer of cream. Definitely a coffee worth £2.65.
C. A.
Having seen this place opening years ago, I assumed it would be overpriced and pretentious beyond belief. In reality, the setting is unrelentingly Hipster, but cosy and quiet. The menu is impressive and the flavoured teas actually deliver on their promises (do not expect the usual herbal tea bag disappointment). And they were all under £3 for a pot, making them better value than any coffee chain I could name.
R. H.
Always full which means customers are getting what they want. Exceptional range of tea including blends like apple crumble! Always book especially at peak times or you will be in for a wait. Coffee and tea excellent and best of all the prices are perfectly reasonable, unlike the inflated prices at a franchise like Starbucks for example.
R. C.
Perfect place for tea and cake. One of the best selections that newcastle has to offer. Although famed for their teas, their hot food is also of top quality and most reasonably priced. Host free film nights and other such events with friendly staff and cosy atmosphere. Highly recommended.
B. A.
Great relaxed atmosphere. Nilgiri tea choice excellent. Very tasty food. Can't book a table so be prepared to wait if busy however the staff try really hard accommodate as and when a table is available. Recommended.
R. R.
Incredible selection of teas, delicious cakes, breakfast and lunches. Service is excellent. Fantastic value. A really special place. Expect to queue during the day, but it's worth it.
R. M.
Beautiful little tea room. Insanely busy but well worth the wait. Large selection of tea and the cakes are to die for. Highly recommend. Try the winter tea. :)
A. G. u.
I have visited Quilliam's twice, and both times the experience has been stellar. The lady serving us was super friendly, and was able to talk us through the menu of pastries/cakes which are baked freshly in-store. She recommended the courgette & lemon cake, which I ordered because it sounded interesting; I wasn't disappointed - it was amazing! The sponge was moist, and the flavours really fresh and exciting. They have a really detailed menu with their tea selection, and the variety is quite astonishing. The teas are also top quality. Quilliam's is well known among students and for good reason. If you are in Newcastle at any point, a visit to Quilliam's is a must.
R. B.
I've been wanting to try this place for months. Wasn't disappointed, great food and tea selection. Gluten free cakes and biscuits aswell. Atmosphere is very relaxed and nice. Love it.
D. A.
Good range of teas and food. Only problem I found was a low table downstairs which was uncomfortable to eat from. Vegan options - breakfast is good and not too expensive.
Some nice artwork.
A. I.
Good range of tea and coffee to choose from. Some slightly different thing's on the food menu "Chocolate and Orange Scones" etc. Staff helpful and pleasant. Will go again soon.
B. A.
Excellent service, food mmmmm, teas, cakes mmmmmm. I've brought lots of friends over the months and everyone has returned again and again. But please please please, put a time limit on the people sitting hogging tables working on laptops - 3 tables while we were there today - when there is a queue. Several people walked away that I noticed. You're losing trade!
P. W.
Love QBs. Regular visitor. Fantastic range of really tasty teas and the breakfasts are delicious. It's very popular so be prepared for a wait but stick with it because it's well worth it.
C. J.
Still the best café in Newcastle. It might appear hipster and "not your cup of tea" if you're not into trendy cafés, but the reality is that it's hard not to find your cup of tea. They do dozens and dozens of them. Their standard breakfast and afternoon teas are lovely, and they do great selections of assam and darjeeling, through to battenburg and lemon flavoured teas. Their coffee is good too, sourced from the local Ouseburn Coffee Company. The food (either breakfast or lunch, with sharing plates in the evening) is excellent. The cakes are great, and if you have any allergies, I'd recommend contacting them a day or two in advance of your arrival. I've heard them accommodate special requests if you tell them.
The only weakness is that they're so popular that you're likely to be waiting a while at lunchtime (you can't book).
Visit. It's brilliant.
s. b.
Lovely place and lovely people. Tea house with a large variety of teas at a good price. They have bored games snacks and soups. Also scones and deserts.
They have coffee too.
WIFI never works tho so dont go if u need it but a chat with friends is lovely and doesnt need wifi.
P. K.
WIDE range of teas. Very reasonable prices, good portions ( eggs Benedict). Scones. Do try the Geordie rarebit! Spoiler: stottie!) Fast service too! Try it today.
D. S.
Best breakfast period. 1st time visiting. Will be coming back often. Roobus tea and eggs Benedict is an excellent choice. Can't go wrong. They stop serving breakfast at 11:45 on Saturdays.
D. J.
A fantastic selection of teas, a breakfast menu (with some good veggie options) to 12, and a reasonable snack and lunch menu.
Oh yeah, and there is also a good selection of coffee as well if you want to go that route :)
Friendly and helpful staff.
J. T.
A tea room that is a little bit different, I mean how many t rooms are open till 11pm 6 days a week? I had 2 slices of nutty flapjack and some normal english tea.
The 2nd cup I spilt some onto the saucer, I seriously thought about doing a Compo from Last of the Summer wine. Where he slurps his tea off the saucer but I decided against it but a very good t shop all the same.
C. L.
Friendly, accommodating, unusual and a wonderful selection of teas. Short wait for a table but happy to wait for such a great cuppa and cake. Also lots of space for a buggy
Z. Q.
Cosy spot for coffee and cake! Relaxing environment and friendly staff open late too!
K.
Amazing range of teas and the food is delicious. Add the exceptional service and ambiance and this place is one of my all time favourites places to visit.
P. G.
The place for tea, to be sure. Served on a pot having been brewed for the appropriate length of time. Delightful service from the youthful staff, presumably uni students. Popular place so expect to wait for a table at peak times.
g. c.
Love Quilliam Brothers. Huge range of teas and great coffee. The Monster Oreo Cake is amazing! 😋 The staff are all lovely too!
M. F.
Amazing tea selection! Lovely breakfast between opening and 11:45, lunch after 12:00 until 15:00 and brunch on the weekends! Great atmosphere and pastries from 09:00 to 24:00.
J. C.
Great spot, super friendly staff too! Sooooo many tea options and the food is really good too. They also do cinema nights which is definitely worth a look. Definitely recommend 👌🏼
