Reviews of Brighstone Newsagents, Coffee Shop & Bike Hire

Don't let the name fool you! This a great place to have a proper breakfast. I had my Full English here when touring the isle by bike. Coffee is also great. You can sit very nicely and cosy inside with a view to where you park the bikes across the road.
All so good but still no match for how lovely the people who work here are. Definitely worth a visit!

Don't be put off by "Newsagents." They are the best place to hire bikes on the island by a country mile. The e-bikes are high spec and easily capable of doing the 110km "round the island route". The prices are very fair are more importantly the staff are very accomodating with timings etc The shop is also conveniently placed on the route itself. The owner was such a pleasure to deal with and single-handed saved my holiday. Thanks Trev

That was an awesome breakfast: fast, friendly service and generous portions too.

A fantastic addition to Brighstone!
Wonderful little village shop with a lovely cafe attached. Went in for a breakfast, all fresh IOW produce and came in at a great price. The breakfast even came with Island Roasted coffee. Great food and wonderful service. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
(Make sure you book in advance for breakfast as people have started to realise how wonderful this place is and it gets busy quick!)

Love this fab local cafe, with homemade cakes with vegan options, and they do a great breakfast! Be sure to book in advance!

Lovely store. I was on a long cycle and the shop assistant offered to fill my water bottle for and add ice. It was much appreciated. Thank you.

If you are cycling around the IOW and pass through Brinstone STOP and take coffee & slice of banana loaf at BRIHSTONE NEWSAGENTS & COFFEE SHOP - it was recommended to us by a fellow cyclist and we recommend too

We were lucky enough to hire 3 bikes today from this fab shop, having almost given up hope on a family cycle as everywhere else was fully booked. So glad we phoned!! Nothing was too much trouble. Trevor delivered the bikes to us on the Red Squirrel Trail and helped us get kitted out and directed us to a gorgeous cafe. We were seriously impressed. Great service and great value too!

Smashing little cafe! Cannot recommend highly enough! Very affordable, good quality local ingredients, lovely setting (thatched roof house). 2 of our number are vegetarians and said the vegetarian breakfast was lovely also. We ended up staying for a beer after breakfast because the atmosphere was so nice!

Popped in for breakfast before a long day on the bike. Not only was the food superb but the staff couldn't have been more accommodating! A hidden gem on the south coast just off Military Road.

We hired some bikes for the day, the bikes themselves were great and the ability to have them dropped off and collected from a convenient location was fantastic. We have hired other bikes on the island before but these were the best we have hired. We then came back the following day for breakfast which was lovely! Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to hire bikes on the island or looking for a nice breakfast!

Lovely food and lovely staff, best breakfast around, well worth a visit.

Excellent cafe. Superb food , really nice coffee, affordable prices, good sitting area, humble & helpful staff. They also provided lock for my bike so that I can kept it safely across the road while having coffee and a pie. Will definitely visit again.

We hired e-bikes and had a great time cycling across the west Wight. Very friendly staff, full training given. Made cycling up over the downs achievable and such fun. I’m exhausted but it was worth it. Definitely returning and telling all my friends about this great little place. Highly recommend.

Can't recommend this place more highly. Trevor (the owner) is the nicest gentlemen out there. It's a newsagent which also does bike hire. We hired MTBs from Trev and they were full suspension bikes for £15 which was a bargain. Trev was super flexible about pick up and drop off times (he gave us the option to drop off the bikes late in the evening). He also offered to pick us up and replace our bikes should there be a puncture etc. The next day, we did the isle of wight bike ride (hired bikes elsewhere this time) and on the way we had an issue with one of our bikes. Stopped off here and Trev gave us one oh his hybrids and again even offered to drop off the hire bike at the original shop! The newsagents itself is great, sells pasties (great vegan options, get there early as they sell out). There's also a cafe next door which does a great fry up. Trev is such a nice bloke and went above and beyond to help us out on our holiday. Will definitely hire a bike from his shop next time I come to the island.

New ownership since March 2020. Lovely little coffee shop/tea rooms. Excellent bacon baps & sausage baps as well as cake and hot chocolate! Really good prices too. Great for villagers and visitors alike. Well worth a try :)

Absolute gem. Fantastic Island Roasted coffee and the most delicious cake. The staff are so friendly, definitely will be coming back again.
Update: went back! We had the Wight Delight for lunch, absolutely delicious. This will be a regular establishment to visit for sure.

Just your everyday newsagents in a lovely thatched building. Probably cannot compete with "The Village shop" just a few doors down, but the locals have some amusing chat to listen to.
A. M.
Excellent coffee and one of the best banana bread that I ever had. Me and my girlfriend went there every day of our stay. Highly recommend
