Reviews of God's Providence House
S. J.
I had a gorgeous date and walnut scone in my cream tea. Absolutely delicious. Lovely atmosphere in a traditional style tea shop. Had not been there for a while but it was just how I remembered it from when my children were young.
J. M.
Superb value savoury tea with delicious cheese scone, butter, grated cheese and pickle plus pot of tea. Had even put table flags at half mast - touching. Friendly efficient service in pleasant rooms. Clean loo too.
S. B.
Lovely food and staff, very friendly. I didn’t try the cakes (found them too late!!) but oh my goodness they did look amazing.
A. S.
Myself and my sister often pop in to this lovely tearoom when we are in Newport.
We visited recently and were greeted by a very cheerful and friendly Robin ( the owner ) who asked if we would like to be seated in the Ghost Room or the Christmas Room. Even though it's mid October we both jumped at the chance to eat in the Christmas Room which had decorated tree, Father Christmas and decs with fairy lights and Christmas tunes playing.
I'm usually a grinch but loved this, it even put me in the Christmas spirit for once.
Our food was tasty and came to our table in good time and we couldn't resist dessert. The Pavlova and Lemon Meringue were divine.
The building has a lot of history and it's interesting to learn where it got it's name from.
Thanks Robin for the laughs you gave us on our visit and rest assured we will visit again soon.

Having eaten here many years ago with my Mum, we decided to have lunch here.
Myself, my Husband and Son really enjoyed the food.
The service from when we sat down to when we left, was first class.
Table cloths added a lovely touch, food was good and tasted lovely.
Still the same friendly service I remember.
P. P.
Absolutely beautiful breakfast, and lovely strong coffee. Both served piping hot. This is a quaint little tea room and very popular with both locals and tourists on the island. Once visited you will return
G. B.
Wonderful old fashioned tea room with friendly waitresses. Best cup of tea we have had all week, with a hand knitted teacosy on the pot.
Delicious cheese scone, fresh from the oven. The lemon meringue pie looked scrumptious.
The lunch menu looked very appetising but we were only in Newport for the morning so didn't try it.
A definite place to return to.
C. A.
A lovely traditional tea room with beautiful food and fantastic service. I have just had the lite breakfast and my wife has just had a tea cake. Highly recommend and we will not go anywhere else when we are in Newport.

Central to St Thomas square this is a real gem of a Tea room. Service is prompt and friendly staff and the food is excellent. Dining both inside and out.
A must if you like a snack or afternoon tea

if i lived in IOW i would adore to work here without a doubt. the staff are homely and extremely polite, located in a secluded section of a busy town, and the food they offer is flawless.
S. P.
Amazing. We always come here for breakfast when visiting the Isle of Wight. They do a lovely full English breakfast but the best thing by far is the setting and the atmosphere.
E. M.
Lovely food and service but in need of a freshen up , knitted stuff in window, knitted trifle inside , carpets dated , it's just so tired looking.
P. C.
Lovely cafe, accommodating staff. Wonderful cake selection - try the shortbread....nice decor, intimate corners if you wish

I have been here several times and it has been consistently great. Staff are lovely and very accommodating and friendly. The savoury cream tea and sweet cream teas are amazing, proper loose tea in a teapot and a lovely big scone with cheese and pickle or jam and clotted cream l! We have tried the breakfast and that too was lovely also, good amounts and fair pricing. We will definitely return for another cream tea soon.

My wife loved her cheese on toast,my savoury cream tea was sublime. The pot of tea was georgeous ,proper tea,not a tea bag in sight.
j. w.
Lovely place in an historic building. Staff really friendly and food good.
P. L. M.
COVID restrictions adhered to, but still with a friendly ambience. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Had the Roast Turkey dinner, cooked to perfection, asked and was given more gravy. The food was plentiful and nicely presented. Worth a visit or two or more! It really does deserve more stars.
P. A.
A great place for a cup of tea a nice relaxing time was had

Where to go for breakfast in Newport on a Saturday morning. Seems options for a cooked breakfast are few these days. One of the options we found this morning is The God's Providence House tea rooms. An interesting building with a tale which explains the name. A full English and good choice of tea or coffee available served by cheerful staff in pleasent surroundings, a great start to our Saturday.
H. H.
Love this place and the cheese scones are still great. Unfortunately because of COVID restrictions we had to sit with the door wide open which was a bit chilly. We kept our coats on but the coffee went cold quickly.
J. D.
Had a lovely steak pie it was filled with lots of delicious tender pieces of beef with chips and a nice Selection of vegetables thank you everyone, we love coming on Thursday’s for our lunch we all ways have a fantastic meal served by lovely friendly staff love everything on the menu . Jane , Medina Park 😋
R. P.
Amazing little place, great food, best cup of tea I've ever had and amazing service. Truly a pleasure for me and my partner for our Saturday lunch. Next time we are visiting the isle of wight we will definitely be paying another visit here
R. L.
A wonderful corner of the square in which to relax and enjoy some refreshments whilst still admiring the beautiful minster and the sights and sounds of the surrounding pedestrianised alleyways. Most courteous and welcoming service with a no rush, no hurry approach to what was an hours sojourn with the best pot of tea I have had (other than from Mrs Lloyd) a wonderfully fresh sandwich supporter by a “mug of chips” which made me smile. A definite must if you are visiting Newport 👍
A. N.
Great experience, lovely querky decor, and was made to feel very welcome and very much at home. Neat, clean and staff very freindly. I got the impression nothing would have been a problem! ordered the big breakfast, and it certainly hit the spot! Also treated myself to a fantastic cake and pot of tea. Really enjoyed my stop off, and would definately go back!!
B. R.
Fantastic restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere that's dripping in history. Originally built around built around the 1400s and rebuilt in the 1700s, the classic feel and cosiness truly are worth experiencing. My friends and I really enjoyed the food we had and honestly have no complaints at all. We will be going back!
C. H.
Lovely lunch today, single use menus, all doors and windows open but we weren't cold. Very friendly couple and we felt completely at ease. We will be back
ö. s.
3 weeks ago, on Saturday I had a traditional breakfast there and it was delicious 😋 the tea served in a tea pot, it is less likely to find nowadays. The next day, on Sunday, I went there again with my husband but it was closed 😞 so sad, he could try their tea and breakfast. You will the name on the door “traditional tearoom” not God’s providence house.
M. S.
Stumbled across this lovely place today on our first visit to the Isle of White . The staff very welcoming and the breakfast was absolutely delicious . My daughter even said her breakfast was an 11/10 .
V. D.
I love God's Prov, it was a treat to go there when I was a kid and still is. Food, drinks and service all great.
J. B.
Whilst the food and the staff were lovely we were very disappointed that they are not wheelchair accessible, not even a movable ramp. With help my friend was able to get out of her chair and enter the tearoom so she could could join us, it was worth the struggle but sadly not every wheelchair user is able to get out of their chair.
s.
Lovely little tea shop in the middle of Newport. Delicious food and drinks and lovely friendly people. Wish you all the best for the future.
D. B.
Mediocre food, that took 30 minutes to arrive and was barely hot. Tea cake burnt on one side and hardly crispy in the other.
Rock hard bacon. Grey ham.
The only thing going for it is that they allowed dogs.
God's providence?
More like God forsaken.
A. L.
Traditional English Tea House with great cakes, great service, full on meals and beautiful interesting decor, bang in the middle of Newport. Loved the loose leaf tea blend, the tea strainer and the traditional knitted tea cosy. Relaxed atmosphere, no pressure to leave, stay and enjoy the vibe.
K. D.
Wonderful little secret, wonderful coffee, a fantastic menu. Friendly staff. 5* because I didn't need the loo...which is not accessible! But then it's a glorious listed building
R. T.
Stunning fresh cakes & sandwiches, fond memories of sharing a cream tea here with my mother in my youth
n. H. (.
Lovely food great tea cosys
R. H.
Warming place to relax all table
Service all food served hot
and not rushed £ priced.
J. A.
Very traditional tea rooms and well worth a visit. I popped in for a fry up and it was very nice. I only drop a star because even though it was nearly empty I was put a a rather cramped table and the breakfast did take a long time to come out.
M. M.
Cosy atmosphere. Friendly and efficient service. Good food, quite large portions at a reasonable price. The rooms were highly decorated for Christmas, giving a warm feel.
t. v.
