Reviews of Blakeys - The Bus Café
I. B.
Great use of a retired double decker bus. Located in the village hall car park. Covered outside seating as well as top deck seating with view of nearby Mulbarton Common. Friendly staff. Enjoyed coffee & a huge piece of cake. Not too expensive.

We went on a Saturday morning which meant the parking was very difficult. But the service was lovely and the food great. It is CASH ONLY
T. B.
Found on google maps.
Website doesn’t mention that it’s cash only (had to drive five mins for cash machine) and that cream tea has to be pre-booked.
Service wasn’t brilliant as despite there being five members of staff, no menu was handed to us and found out after sitting down for a few mins a that we had to walk round the other side of the bus to stand by a door and order. This could be improved by signage or staff doing some work.
Also had to get my own sugar.
Staff could be more polite and website and online profiles could be better as they’re in the middle of nowhere and hard to find.
Seating was old and uncomfortable and I wasn’t offered a seat inside.

Lovely food, sandwiches nice and fresh. Cakes to die for and a perfect cup of tea.

I have been a regular customer here for over a year now and thought the staff were so friendly. I then became a staff member and worked for Blakey's and I can honestly say it was a pleasure to be apart of their wonderful team. The team were so welcoming and was a wonderful place to work. The food is all freshly homemade and of amazing quality. Her cheesecakes are so good, that I feel I might have a cheesecake addiction now LOL. 5 STAR service to work for and to be a customer.

Lovely quaint, but yummy cafe. Stopped off for a bacon and egg roll, and cake. Nice coffee, lovely food, and friendly staff. The bus setting is quite unique and we'll worth a visit.

Been going here weekly with my mum and grandma. The food is amazing, served with a smile as always. The cheesecakes are to die for. 10/10 service:)

Had afternoon tea with a group of friends. Such a novel idea & the bus is done out really lovely. Portion sizes were very generous & service was very good. Only minor quibble was the lack of heating on the bus, so it felt quite cold at times.

Great venue for special birthday staff friendly and attentive throughly recommend.

Quaint idea, well executed. Lovely food. Very pleasant staff.
M. L.
Love it! A different way to eat and drink coffees etc.
Especially good on nice sunny days!
K. M.
Brilliant. Quirky little place! Loved it, took my mum for afternoon tea as part of a birthday treat, and it was delicious and great value. Will be back! Staff very nice as opposed to a review I read on here, oh well I guess everyone is allowed an off day!
G. W.
My friend had an accident which meant we had to reschedule our booking. The ladies were absolutely brilliant, even agreeing to pack everything in a take out if we were very late!
Everything was freshly made and delicious.
Service was excellent.
Couldn't fault anything!

Delicious food.... especially the cakes! Beautifully presented.
Friendly attentive staff. Lovely location.
Highly recommended. 👍

Always a lovely time. With superb food and drinks. And the bus is terrific. As someone who spends his working week driving buses around Norwich.
I am more than happy to spend my rest days. Visiting the cafe especially for iced Coffee ☺️☺️
B. F.
Lovely ladies serving great food. First class baguettes. Very yummy. Cakes looked good and were enjoyed by others in the group. Lots of room to sit outside. Plenty of space to park.
C. M.
Not been since before covid and love the outside seating. Prompt service and special table for us dog walkers. Be warned cake sizes are huge, that's not a complaint 😀
P. H.
Nice cafe reasonable selection

First time visiting and only found out about as I asked a Mum in the park where she'd bought her coffee!
Great range on offer, kids lunch boxes a big hit and the best egg mayo baguette I've had in a long time! We'll definitely be back xx
M. P.
Cakes are to die for! Really friendly cafe, little gem in Mulbarton
C. W.
Good, fresh cafe food, menu was sandwiches, quiche, baked potato and so on. The quiche was really good, sandwiches were well filled and delicious. Coffee good. Will definitely return.
S. L.
Still cash only ... should say on website.. a good hour wait for food .

Despite the coffee machine initially breaking down, and then working again, we had a pleasant pit stop here. Bacon baguette & cake was delicious. Staff were pleasant and friendly, and I'm sure once we are out of the current pandemic, sitting on the decking beside the bus would be lovely.
K. T.
Friendly and welcoming with amazing food and cakes. Lovely view over the common from upstairs or enjoy the sunshine outside with your dog. Always a gluten free and dairy free option. Really helpful with allergies.
b. s.
We visit regularly. Delicious food at a good price and they're great with kids.
It's lovely eating inside the bus and a bit of a novelty for the little ones, but they've got a little stash of toys and books should you need them.
There is outside seating as well which is a nice option.
M. B.
Afternoon tea delicious. You need to book in advance for that.
G. C.
Great place for a drink and a bite to eat, especially of you are taking your dog for a run on the common.
Even better now as the car park has been newly renovated with shingle, no more water filled pot holes!!
E. K.
Very reasonably priced afternoon tea. All tasted great, especially the scones. Friendly service and something a bit different.
R. L.
Great cakes, sandwiches and jacket potatoes! Worth booking a table if you want to go for a special reason. You will also want to consider a second visit as it's always difficult to pick what cake you want they are all so nice! 🍰
L. H.
Lovely little cafe. Food is good and they've done a great job of making a small area feel personable.
n. w.
Ran out of jacket potatoes early in day (we got there around 12) and as nice as it was, I did feel that £4.95 for a slice of cake was a bit steep. Also, we were charged 50p for a glass of tap water! That said, the baguettes were nice and fresh.
H. S.
Blakey's serves a great breakfast menu alongside wonderful home baked cakes as well as savory items. It also serves jacket potatoes with plenty of filling all served with a salad. For that special occasion they also provide a 'proper' afternoon tea. The kids menu is basically small portions of the adult menu. Kids love the novelty of eating on a bus, although there is outside seating (with heating) for people who want to enjoy their delights but can't get up the bus stairs. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are all very friendly & helpful.
A. W.
Lovely and unusual Tea room. Staff were pleasant and polite. Fresh sandwiches and home made cakes were superb. Advise that you book in advance if you want a cream tea lunch.
T. A.
The afternoon tea was nicely presented. The staff were very polite and helped to make it a
lovely birthday treat for my grandson. They supplied balloons for the table and even sang happy birthday! A lovely time was had by all.

Service was great and the food was delicious 😋
R. M.
Visited for first time Friday and was very impressed.had a ham baguette and was stuffer with lovely home cooked ham
The price was very good .will visit again soon
G. H.
Good food, quirky and atmospheric, and good location. My only criticism would be that they should open on a Sunday at the expense of a week day at least during the football season as there are many teams playing both days but more so Sunday.
J. W.
Quirky little cafe. Friendly staff. Great cakes and scones.
D. H.
Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Blakeys, eating a ploughmans lunch followed by coffee and cake at their outdoor tables. Very friendly with a warm welcome to the village from proprietor and customers alike.
J. F.
A cafe that's a bit different as its in a double decker bus! Open Monday to S aturday (but available for private hire on Sinday's). Seating is upstairs with a small outside terrace on entry which is suitable for Sunny days and for those who can't climb the stairs. Enjoyed their high tea - only thing to improve this would be to include a coffee machine coffee rather than filter. Reasonably priced menu but not impressed with the 50p charge for tap water (surely it could be brought up with your food without the additional fee!)
R. P.
Always a great place for coffee/eats. Very friendly, polite., smart staff. Often pop in with friends and have never been disappointed. Will be there tomorrow if the snow doesn’t get worse.☃️☃️☃️☕️☕️☕️☕️👍
J. S.
Lovely fresh baguettes and great cups of tea. Varied menu. Covid restrictions adhered to and felt very safe and relaxed. 🍵
K. O.
It's an old double decker bus, sitting in the car park of Mulbarton village hall with a view over the common. They have a selection of lovely freshly baked cakes and decent coffee. Inside the bus is very cosy, although I can imagine it could be a bit cramped if it's full, and there's also seating outdoors.
P. S.
Went here with my three year old and she loved it.
Great kid options, and the novelty aspect of being on a bus sealed the deal.
Friendly service and decent prices.
Cheers.
N. R. E.
Great location and lots of fun for kids. Cake was yummy and portions were huge.
J. A.
Great coffee and gluten free cake takeaway. Friendly service. Covid safe arrangements.

Lovely place, good service and friendly staff. They also have soya milk and gluten free. Definitely recommend.

Coffee shop in the South Norfolk village of Mulbarton
It's big selling point it's an old bus - interesting concept
Quite cramped upstairs
But outside seating too - which is good in nice weather
Good menu - sandwiches, jacket potatoes, baguettes etc
And hot/cold drinks
Service was very slow today - an unexpected rush with too few staff
But staff on were friendly (and very apologetic !!)

(Translated) By driving wrong on a certain day, we drove past this fascinating place. What a nice idea to organize a cafe in this old double decker. They have only been there for 3 years and were already finalist best afternoon tea in Norfolf last year. The winner is in Heydon by the way. We were late for the afternoon tea, which is best ordered in advance. We chose sausage rolls, egg salad sandwich, red velvet cake and of course scones, with coffee instead of tea. Everything well cared for and tasty. The super friendly lady gave everything together, careful eating because you put on the second floor and you have to narrow down the steep spiral staircase. A toilet visit requires you to pass the local football team changing room with a guest key.
(Original)
